Quote:I suppose some people don't see them as being "overpriced".I know there are fans of them out there, I just don't understand why they'd spend so much on them.
Like anything else prices are set at what markets will bear. If no one was spending the points on those vanity pets at the current prices then Paragon Studios would have little choice but to charge less - but that isn't really happening is it?
It's easy to understand why... -
Quote:I'm not frustrated, simply disappointed. I have been waiting patiently to roll a new staff melee alt to go through the new low level content from I22. I have no interest in playing controllers, dominators or masterminds so the new sets that have been released recently have no interest to me at all. I'll be taking a break from the game and checking back in a couple of months as it's not worth my while paying a sub at the moment.Quote:However there are many other games out there, I'll move my subbing over to one of them and staff will be waiting for me when I return.
Just remember the Devs weren't out to "get" you with this. You just had the misfortune of caring about the powerset that got delayed. The people who love the Dark control sets and couldn't care less about Staff Fighting are still enjoying this game. *shrugs* -
Quote:The costume system could simply offer them as "one-sized" and let individual players decide if they looked reasonable or not.Given how detailed many of the badge icons are, they'd be pretty incongruous with existing chest details. I question whether the costume system can handle items that high resolution, or with that color depth. They'd also need to be "stretchable" based on body sliders and size, or cape physics or what have you, depending on where they were to be usable. Finally, most of them are a fairly uniform size and then a couple of them are freaking gigantic. V.I.P., I'm looking at you.
Sure this might mean that they wouldn't work very well on characters which are sized to be either minimally small or maximally big. But if it meant that we could get these available and have them look reasonably good on say 80-90% of characters that exist in the game and have it done with a minimum of effort on the Devs' part (so that it might actually happen) then I'd consider that to be a reasonable compromise. -
Quote:Didn't they already increase the size of the Lion rig in Beta because it was the size of the German Shepherd?
Now as to whether the Liger is the "right" size when compared to the Lion or German Shephard is another matter.
I figure as long as the in-game Liger is at least as big as the in-game Lion then most people won't know the difference. -
That's actually a pretty interesting idea. We know the art is already in the game - it would just be a matter of crossing it over to the costume editor. To make it simple they could keep the colors unchangeable, but that would be fine because as you say most of the badges look pretty cool as they are.
-
Quote:Sadly Zwill's attempt to drop a hint about the Liger used a bit of a movie quote that was, shall we say, less than "diplomatic" when it came to those people who are upset that this was not Staff Fighting. Let's just say if I was hotly anticipating something that kept getting delayed I probably wouldn't like someone even remotely implying that the weak alternative to that thing was his "favorite" thing ever.Lol, did you miss the point where someone mentioned those words were a reference to a movie? No, I didn't care for Nepolean Dynamite but hey, at least after someone pointed out the reference I can say "Oh, well then Z was probably doing that, yeah..."
Just google Liger and 'my favorite' and I got this:
Deb: What are you drawing?
Napoleon Dynamite: A liger.
Deb: What's a liger?
Napoleon Dynamite: It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.
Can you quit with the butthurt now?
Zwill was simply an ironic victim of his own attempt to be cute with this. If that movie quote had used any other word than "favorite" we probably wouldn't even be talking about it at this point. -
Most of my characters just have whatever random badges they've "stumbled" over as they played through the game.
But for my main badging characters I have the luxury of choosing pretty much any badge I want as a badge title for them. I actually take this one step further and use costume/settitle binds to give each of their costume slots a unique badge title so that the badge describes the outfit appropriately.
Bottomline I think badges should apply to your character concepts as much or as little as you'd like. -

Quote:There's yet another related issue that's holding them back: SG bases are entwined with the SG base raid PvP code that dubiously became one of the worst design failures this game has ever suffered. I suspect the Devs still hate the fact that all their hopes and efforts they hung on the SG base PVP concept, which was really the core of the CoV expansion, fell apart so spectacularly.Oh the devs have always wanted to improve it, it's just they have to wipe the coding and delete every single SG base out there to make new improved bases. Otherwise we won't see anything new in bases.
Editing the existing code has only made bases attack players.
I suspect that even if it could be said that messing around with SG base code was an easy thing to do they probably would almost rather the whole thing just go away because it reminds them of their past mistakes. So not only would it be hard to do but I seriously don't think they have any motivation or intention to do anything that might reopen old wounds, at least metaphorically speaking. -
For what it's worth the idea of "individual character housing" has been suggested dozens of times over the years pretty much since the beginning of the game. I've even offered several relatively workable concepts for this. I think there's a fair amount of support for the idea and even the Devs have kind of halfway admitted that it would be "nice to have".
Still I think it's obvious that it's something that has never really been given much priority and I suspect it may never become "important" enough to get much attention. The fact that SG bases (the closest existing feature to this player housing idea) have gotten very few significant improvement/updates over the years tells us this is not something the Devs seem very focused on despite our interest.
I will continue to hope that something might be done about this.
But I wouldn't be too surprised if nothing happens.
Quote:These are also two classic reasons why individual player housing probably won't happen. As cool as it sounds, the base coding is such a cluster-F that doing anything to it would break the game entirely. I feel like they'd have to completely make something from scratch entirely. This'd take quite awhile. -
Quote:Perhaps it'd be more appropriate to say the Devs have been "working" on Staff Fighting for a long time and the timing of when they got it ready to go now finds itself lining up with marking the milestone of the 8th anniversary. For all we know they "planned" to release it two months ago, but since that didn't happen their "plan B" is to make the most of the delay which in this case may be to have it coincide with the upcoming anniversary.I don't know that your characterization of "sitting on it" is 100% correct though I know many probably see it that way. To delay it for the obvious anniversary ploy would cement the view.
And that would actually move me from disapointed/annoyed to angry. I wouldn't want to assume anyone else's reaction but it would seem probable that others would also migrate further along the dissatisfaction path.
Generally it is not thought to be a good idea to intentionally provoke people.
Either way the fact is that it's not happening today. If it does or doesn't happen next Tuesday then I'm sure people will continue to have their own theories about it regardless. -
Quote:As long as you didn't "unsub" at all or for any longer than 24 hours you're probably OK.Ha, damn it! I cancelled and re-subbed to change billing information between December first and March thirty first. I wonder if that screws me out of the bundle or if the important factor was that I didn't let my subscription lapse?
Many people have had situations like that and the Devs have been fairly forgiving. -
Quote:And since they've already been sitting on it for months what's another couple of weeks going to matter? The people who are upset by the delay are already upset - who else is going to get any more upset now?The main problem here is that they've been sitting on the powerset for months.
If they hadn't released it to Beta so early then there wouldn't be as much complaining as there is now, Beast Mastery actually came along after staff fighting and got released earlier.
However if they hadn't released it to test then people would be complaining the sounds aren't right when it was released, catch 22 really. -
Fair enough. Still they know they have something ready to go that'll make people want to play intensely for at least another few weeks. It's like lightning in a bottle and it would make sense for them to drop it at the moment that'll make the biggest splash for them. That "moment" will likely be a couple of weeks from now.
-
Quote:They've always made a quasi-big deal over their anniversaries. It makes sense to me that they would be saving up something they know people want in order to make sure people are "excited" about the game at a key time. That's Marketing Tactics 101.To me it would seem odd to celebrate the 8th anniversary by selling a powerset in coordination with it. So unless they are going to give out staff fighting to all VIPs on the anniversary, withholding it until then seems odd to me.
"It's out anniversary and to celebrate you get to buy stuff!" just seems a bit lame of a theme. -
Quote:And of course ironically enough I'd probably pay like 2000 Paragon points for a kitten vanity pet as cute as that.
-
People seem to have forgotten the likely elephant in the room - the game's 8th anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. My guess is that they are saving Staff Fighting for a release in another week or two to better correspond to the big "celebration" they are going to have for that.
P.S. Not I'm not implying they should give us elephant vanity pets either. -
Quote:*wonders if I'm one of those people*There are a few people in this thread this morning that are purposefully baiting for an argument. Don't give them the satisfaction, ignore them(just don't respond) and go ahead and leave your feedback for Paragon. Support each other and don't fall into their trap of debate it is not worth it.

Quote:I continue to be amazed at how people can seemingly complain more now that we are getting -more- stuff than we ever did before. How exactly have they been treating us? Have we ever in the history of the game gotten more stuff faster than right now? If you ask me, and you didn't, this is the best period the game has ever been in!
The counter-intuition behind this state of affairs is almost mind-boggling. -
Quote:The reason why we'll probably never give us a "schedule of releases" is that it would tie their hands into a series of expectations that may or may not realistically happen. It's the same reason why they've never announced long-term dates for Issue releases - everyone knows if they ever missed one of those release dates everyone would scream bloody murder about it.Or failing that, have a schedule of relases up so we know whether to give a toss each Tuesday or not. This 'wait and see' approach is ******* irritating.
Truth be told they are probably constantly working on various things to toss out on the Market and probably never know exactly what's going to be offered week-to-week until just a few days before each Tuesday. I'm not suggesting that's a good way to do business - just offering that that's what looks like is happening here. *shrugs* -
Quote:Sure you might not care about these vanity pets and that's fine. But don't let yourself be fooled into thinking that the -only- thing the entire Dev staff of Paragon Studios has been doing lately was working on these pets. You realize that one person can churn out vanity pets while other people can be fixing bugs and working REAL content at the -same- time right?I wish they'd focus on fixing bugs and REAL content.
This companion pets/travel powers/whatever crap with 4 legs rig has to end.
Saving my points again for this week, like the whole past month, wondering if is worth it to pay for VIP...
This is why I always laugh at people who suggest that the Devs should spend time fixing bugs for a few months BEFORE creating any other new content. The naivety of that notion is laughable for almost too many reasons to count. -
Quote:Sure the Liger actually making it to the Market was a bit of a surprise. But we already knew the Lion was on the Beta server so why would it have come as a shock to anyone that we were close to getting at least that as another vanity pet? They're actually in the market?
Wow I was mostly joking when I said "Oh wow what are they going to do, release more vanity pets instead of actual content?" but wow.
Again I realize that the words "content" and "vanity pet" don't exactly equate for you and that's fine. But at least don't be amazed when we know these things are coming regardless. *shrugs* -
Quote:Considering that it's ridiculously easy to power level characters in this game without having to buy anything from the market I'd also think it'd be rather odd to learn that Double XP boosters mights be Zwill's "favorite market offering". Out of anything you could buy in the Market I'd think that XP boosters would really be the most redundant and semi-pointless things imaginable. *shrugs*Considering Zwill's picture is of "Dos Equis," which translates into "2X," I'm guessing it's the Double XP booster.

Quote:True enough. The obvious assumption from my last post was that a given TV show based on a book still needs to be good in and of itself to be worth watching. A bad adaptation from even the most perfect series of books in existence would still be a bad adaptation.Game of Thrones, so far, has been a shining example of how you do it right.
