Quote:They're already talking about mandating cars be equipped with cell phone inhibitors to keep people from talking/texting while driving. Seems likely that they would have to include limiting the use of glasses like these while driving too. Maybe as long as the glasses would only allow for "driving oriented" apps that don't distract from driving then they'd be OK.I think it would depend on how they're used. I could see people wearing these for directions while they drive, with a line for their route projected on the road, instead of looking over at a SatNav. And would it be that difficult to hardwire the glasses so that any potentially distrating features were disabled when you entered a vehicle?

Quote:The problem is that those were originally unrelated shows, cobbled together to create Robotech for American audiences. There is no "Robotech style".
Sure it might not be the most 'precise' word to use as a blanket term but it avoids the silly nerd-based arguments about how big an Otaku everyone here is. -
Quote:You have to cut the Mods a little bit of slack here - keeping them busy censoring Issue 23 info that's not allowed to be "public" yet is probably just about the closest thing to "legitimate modding" they've probably done for weeks. Why in god's name are they nuking posts that contain information and links in them? No one is breaking any forum rules by posting or linking to the stuff that Paragon Studios posted.
If it was a mistake, and this was special for the pummit, STOP PUNISHING players for it. And if it wasn't a mistake, someone needs to get over themselves. Seriously.
Maybe Zwillinger should post something like, "Hey everyone, don't search for Issue 23 using Google, and then look at the cached pages that Google saved." Boy, that would just be terrible. -
Quote:What? A sore spot that I just used the word "Robotech" all by itself? Get over yourself.Quote:It's been mentioned/implied that Positron was a fan of Robotech. I would have to guess that whatever we get that's called "Mecha" is going to be influenced by that style at the very least:
Sorry... a bit of a sore spot.
As long as there's a wikipedia page for "Robotech" then I'm going to use it as a general term cover all those specific anime/manga you bothered to mention that didn't really add anything to the general conversation here. -
Quote:There's really only two possible outcomes to these "info leaks" we seem to get -all- the time.Yay! Another marketing nightmare for Zwillinger to mop up...
*facepalm*
Dude, I sure hope they pay you enough. We can't afford to lose you.
Either they leak these things on purpose just so we'll chew it up and spin out a torrent of speculation just to give them a feel for how the new content will be received or all these leaks really are accidental in which case they must not be -that- bad because the game has yet to "explode" over the multiple leaks we've had over the years.
Bottomline it's not that big a deal for Zwill either way. -
Well that's fine enough. To be fair the Titan post I read was several days older than the latest patch notes so maybe something changed in the meantime and they shifted the badge fix to be sooner than originally expected. Who knows...
Either way it'll be good to get it fixed. -
Quote:I've always had the feeling that our "SG base editor" was really just a re-purposed mission instance editing tool used by the Devs that simply got "GUI-fied" to make it usable by players to some degree.Personally, I find the whole SG editor to be horribly designed, itself. It more resembles a level editor and comes with far too much micromanaging fine details to be of any use to anyone but dedicated "base builders." Yes, it's great when you want to make, say, a labyrinth in your base, or build a house out of desks inside a large room, but when all I really wanted to do was something as simple as a living room, the amount of effort I have to put into it is prohibitive.
When it came out, the SG editor was touted as he next great step after the character editor, giving people unprecedented new customization options. The problem is that the SG editor's pool of items has always been prohibitively small, and the sheer grunt work required has always been disheartening. If the actual costume editor were like the SG editor, we would not be able to pick a suit jacket, for instance, but would have to pick a basic coat, then manually position buttons on , manually paint pint stripes, pockets and collars, manually position our arms and the whole time make sure nothing is out of line, with no sort of tool to ensure symmetry. And it would be completely useless to me.
Personally, when speaking about base editing, I much prefer something like the base editor from UFO: Enemy Unknown, were we have a selection of pre-fabricated rooms, and the final base is less about picking the precise location of every little bolt on every giant wall and more about picking the general layout. Just like I don't pick the precise location and orientation of the buckles on Buckled Leather, I don't want to pick the precise location and orientation of every single light source in every single room, or have to arrange floor tiles one by one. Not everyone is a budding mod-maker, simply put.
You have to remember that the original primary purpose of SG bases was to serve as player created spaces for PvP base raids. The idea that they could -also- be used as PvE content was almost secondary to their intended purpose. This is why the SG base editor, to this day, remains fairly limited and clumsy because they envisioned most people would just "throw something together" in 10-15 minutes and start PvPing.
Of course as we all know the PvP focus of SG bases never really worked out and unfortunately the editor has never been overhauled to better serve the PvE community. I continue to suspect that if SG bases had been solidly focued on the PvE community from the beginning then we really would have the ability to create meaningful individual character areas that didn't have rely on a system that was never geared toward that use. At best the "one-person SG base" workaround is a very poor substitute for something that could have been handled much, much better. -
Quote:I've got a couple of "Praetorian only" characters who have been patiently waiting for Praetoria to get "finished" all the way up to level 50. This Night Ward news was good news for that. Also, keeping Praetorian themed characters in Praetoria pays off for me again.

Quote:It's been mentioned/implied that Positron was a fan of Robotech. I would have to guess that whatever we get that's called "Mecha" is going to be influenced by that style at the very least:for my sanity, it better not look anything like Enforcer and should be a more awesome version of PPD Hardshells.

Quote:i23 isn't going Live yet. It hasn't even entered Beta yet. That information is premature and that page was oddly fleshed out and put up Live on the internets.Quote:But the Beta server has been closed, so I expect it can't be far off.

Quote:This wasn't exactly a surprise since they already started to up the "Praetorian level cap" with First Ward. You know, I just realized something...
The devs are making praetorian maps for us to ride all the way to level 50! That is... pretty cool.
But it's good to see that they may actually "finish" Praetoria up to level 50 within the next few Issues. -
Quote:Apparently Positron did mention a "desire" to create some kind of Mecha Armor powerset that would use the new pop-up power tray (the same one being introduced by the upcoming Panther Stealth power). Not sure if this new Mecha Armor costume set is supposed to be related to that idea or not. When I saw the "Mecha Armor" at first glance I thought it was a defensive power set and not a costume set.
It still sounds cool, but a Titan Weapon / Mecha Armor Brute sounds more awesome
My initial thought was that it would be something similar to Stone Armor for Tanks and Brutes.
The various t1 - t8s would be different armors overlays or gadgets that circled around you with the t9 being something similar to Granite Armor making you a Techno Bad-pancake!
One can dream I suppose...
The cool thing I liked about the Mecha Armor costume set description was that it mentioned that there would be a new set of wings. Maybe we'll finally get the fold-out, fixed-wing Robotech styled wings people have been suggesting for years now. -
Quote:Just as an FYI I read this post over on the Titan forum that says they are going to be renaming this badge to 'Spinebreaker' in Issue 23. No reason to doubt this as far as I can tell. At least this'll give us a vague idea how long we'll have to wait for the fix.Anyone heard any rumors as to when the Devs might get around to thinking up a unique name for [the Gate Crahser] badge?
-
Clearly if they follow the general path MentalMaden mentioned they're simply going to start trimming out some of the (hopefully) least meaningful bits of the story. I imagine if they drop several of the supporting characters involved they'd be able to ignore sizable portions of the books.
-
I offer no judgements about -why- they chose to do this other than the obvious idea that they thought it would be funny for April Fools' day.

Quote:Even though Ligers exist in real life it's plainly obvious that the visual appearance of the one we got in this game is copied almost exactly from the one that Napoleon Dynamite drew in the movie of the same name. Your ignorance of that doesn't make this point irrelevant in the least. While it does not fit the real world definition of Liger, it conforms to the one shown on Napoleon Dynamite.
*scratches his staff itch*
But what's more important to me is that now we know that this game has no problem copying creatures from movie sources I think it's high-time they get around to giving us a "Killer Rabbit" pet from Monty Python's The Holy Grail. -
If the Devs are working under some kind of internal guideline of giving us "one new retail powerset per quarter" I would think that at best that's a working goal instead of some kind of fixed rule that can't be broken for any reason. As a player I'm not going to put -that- much stock in something like that.

Quote:Well for what it's worth the Leprechaun pet we just got a couple of weeks ago was the first non-Vet "vanity pet" that actually provided some kind of in-game power effect. With that threshold broken it's always possible that we'll be getting more pets that'll actually do things.I'm not a fan of stuff that doesn't do things for me (cats, small children, other drivers, etc.) I would be more enticed to buy that has a small added bonus (recharge increase, MARTY protection, portable insp vendor, etc.)
So for me, personally, I most likely won't ever buy a vanity pet - that isn't to say there aren't people who won't want to buy vanity pets to complete a character look.
I just want my pets to do things. Like sing, "Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday..."
But that's just me. -
Quote:The only thing I'm insinuating is that people are overreacting big time to this. I guess I'm just missing what's making this week's "Staff Fighting no-show" so much more earth-shattering than any of the last couple of months worth of Tuesdays?Way to go with the hyperbole insinuation...
No one has said they're gonna go ape or anything if they don't get it. They're just expressing their annoyance at yet another market day without the staff set we KNOW is ready, and instead something that's totally useless.
Hell, it's not even a proper Liger ffs!
It'll be here when it gets here. If you are of the position that it's "long overdue" now what's another week or two going to add to that? -
Quote:We've known about the existence of the Retro Sci-Fi pack for months as well. It doesn't make the anticipation of my getting something I've waited 7 years for any more or less valid than your anticipation about waiting for something you've wanted for years. *shrugs*Those are two completely not equal situations since Staff has been on BETA for months.
Somehow I think we'll both survive the wait regardless of the details... -
Quote:Maybe. Then again I suspect in a few months when both Staff Fighting and the Retro Sci-Fi pack are released most people will forget most of this current "angst" regardless. *shrugs*At least with the retro pack, they have the excuse that's it's still in development. Staff Fighting has been finished for months. Beast Mastery came and went in less time that Staff Fighting has been on test, mainly because of the devs massive woody over all things with 4 legs.

Quote:A "staff blast" powerset could be something as straightforward as a re-skinned Assault Rifle powerset with energy/magical effects. I see absolutely no reason why the Staff Fighting melee set would preclude a possible Staff Blast set. When Staff Melee first hit beta, there was a guy in one of the Global Channels I frequent that spent over half a day raging about how the devs had missed the boat by wasting their resources on making Staff a melee set, instead of making it a blast set. He wanted magic staves and/or Goa'uld staff weapons. He also seemed to be of the impression that since staves were now melee weapons, there was no chance that the devs would ever make the "Staff Blast" set he wanted, because there was no way that they would ever use one weapon in two different powersets, like they did with Archery, Trick Arrow, and Ninjas.
-
Quote:Staves are MELEE weapons.wait a minute, staff is a melee powerset?
what were you guys thinking?
Sure they are realitvely large melee weapons, but melee weapons none the less.
What other kind of category would the Devs place them in? -
Quote:I made a character roughly 7 years ago which has been waiting ever since then to get a dual-rocket costume item like the one that's coming in the Retro Sci-Fi costume pack. The core concept of that character was essentially based on a rocket pack like that (which of course I had no idea I'd have to wait 7 years to get at the timePeople in this game have been hankering for a staff fighting powerset for at LEAST 7 years.
).
So does it irk the b-jesus out of me me every week we don't get the Retro Sci-Fi costume pack on the Market? Of course it does. But honestly since I've already been waiting 7 years for it I can stand to wait a few more weeks. I tend to think the people who've been waiting for Staff Fighting will be able to survive another week or two as well.
