From what I understand this show is getting great ratings numbers for HBO. If I had to guess even though this show is currently only guaranteed a third season I wouldn't really be surprised if it goes longer than that. It's probably one of those things where they can't announce any more than one season of renewal in advance.

Quote:I'll be diplomatic enough to say that Natasha could likely beat Buffy before she had any serious training. But Buffy, once she became the Slayer, literally had superhuman superpowers which included super strength and resistance. Slayers, as envisioned by Whedon, are almost like a version of Wonder Woman - at best Natasha is a very skilled "normal" human.Sorry Joss, but I have to disagree. Buffy may have the strength and speed to fight vamps, but Black Widow's training is a bit more extensive.
On average Natasha might get a few lucky shots in on Buffy but I would bet a win for Buffy pretty much every time these two matched up. -
I'm pretty sure the whole idea of a VIP server is that you have to be a VIP to play on it. Let's just say I would plan on losing access to that server and if you can't get to it after the 19th you'll know for sure. Take care regardless.

I've heard the show is going to get at least a 3rd season on HBO so if Sir. Arthur Fonzarelli has already made an appearance we've got a long way to go despite the shark-sigil.

Quote:A "happy accident" is obviously one explanation. Maybe this was an unexpected benefit from some other change or bug fix.Not so much a complaint as wonderment about what suddenly made them "fix" this. I'm genuinely curious.
Zortel's explanation is another valid one: a Dev might have been looking around at the power toggling code and realized that the toggle-off timer (which may have served a valid purpose in the past) could now be removed without adverse effects.
Another explanation is that the Devs probably maintain a list of "suggested QoL improvements" and this idea just happened to be on it. Maybe some random Dev reviewed the list a few weeks ago and realized that implementing this change wouldn't be all that difficult.
Of course the explaination in this particular case could be some combination of these or something completely different. In an ongoing development and maintenance environment like this one these kinds of things always just find a way of sneaking in. For all we know this particular feature was a pet desire of one of the Devs themselves and he/she finally got a few minutes to work on it after months or years of doing other things. -
As cool as the Sybil outfits are I could see where the Devs would want to keep them "NPC only" even if there wasn't an issue with waist-cape network bandwidth. Having said that I obviously wouldn't mind if we could eventually get some variant Sybil outfit parts that would be similar to the NPC one but not identical so that we could have something to play with.

Quote:It's obvious that some of the prices for some of the items (like alignment tokens) are artificially high because they are serving as a soft control to keep people from from over-using them. At least that's obvious to some people at any rate. The prices on some of that stuff are set high to discourage people from buying a lot of them.
Alignment changes aren't supposed to be convenient and quick. They're supposed to be a commitment to becoming the opposite alignment. Frankly, I'm surprised they put that in the Market in the first place, but I'm not surprised in the slightest that it's expensive.
You want to go redside with your blaster to get Scorpion Shield? You have a couple options: 1) Spend a few days changing your alignment in order to run the necessary arc, or 2) spend $20 to go there and back pretty much instantly.
Forbin has it right. They offered that item for convenience, but they don't want it to be so cheap that people start buying them and ignoring the side-switching mechanic they spent a lot of the last couple years designing and adding stuff to.
Makes perfect sense to me.
I was just attempting (in my last post) to explain why other things (like the vanity pets) are priced the way they are. Many of those prices are driven by simple economics. -
If you're happy with your character builds and you didn't need Converters to build them then you're fine. The big thing with Converters will be taking advantage of them in the near-term to make a boatload of Influence on the markets. If crafting or selling things on the market aren't big deals for you then again you won't really need Converters much.
They are simply tools for specific uses - they aren't going to be "required" for anything. -
Quote:Did it ever occur to you that people -are- buying these things even at these so-called ludicrous prices? Why would Paragon Studios willingly want to charge less for these things when plenty of people are paying the current prices? Or conversely: Do you think that if no one was buying these "high-priced" items right now that they wouldn't have already slashed their prices? You should lower the prices of stuff like Alignment change, respec, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember by alot. I mean there's much more chance of people buying convenience items at a whim if it didn't cost something like $10 for an alignment change.
If the change cost like 200 pts I would have bought them, since I don't want to do 2 days of tips and 2 more to get back to my origin. Changing sides it in game is really not that much work maybe 1hr a day tops, I'm just lazy. But not worth giving out $10 for.
Just saiyan, if you want to make money don't charge complete ludicrous prices for convenience items that you can easily get in game, and people might start buying them.
Let me use a real world example that might help you understand this situation: There are plenty of people out there who think it's foolish to pay like $5 or more for a cup of coffee yet somehow there are literally thousands of Starbucks coffee shops in business around the world. Apparently there are in fact plenty of people out there willing to spend a ton of money for that. Same seems to be holding true for this game... *shrugs* -
This QoL feature was part of today's patch. I'm not sure if it was "worth" solving but I suspect many people will like it regardless. That's the whole point of "QoL improvement".

Quote:As I implied this patch has been established and patch noted on the Test server for a while now.the patch was also so enable the ability to buy enhancement converters with alignment, astral and empyrean merits.
I imagine the patch notes will be up in 3 or so hours. -
Quote:This patch has been out on the Test server for a week so there's not that much "mystery" to it.They implemented a 147mb patch for sale items?
That don't sound right to me.
And as far as the size of the patch goes there's really almost nothing you can read into that one way or the other. Sometimes a 147mb patch contains 147mb worth of changes but other times there might just be a few one-liner code changes that affect enough files that require entire .piggs to be updated. -

Quote:At least you can earn most of these through "normal play" now. A few of the epic badges (especially Empath) were originally impossible to earn without farming before the requirements were reduced to sane levels. Sadly it took the Devs a few years to realize the need for the reductions, but eventually they saw the light and fixed the problems.I don't really aspire to have any of the Epic Level badges, I figure if I get those, it will be through traditional play only.
Quote:Still have to get a bunch of Mo badges. And I had so much fun getting the MoITF that I don't think I will mind those as much as I thought I would. -

I'm actually suggesting the reverse. It's far easier to pre-assume that Tuesdays and Thursdays are going to be "possible" maintenance days (since those are the usual days for that to happen) so you might as well plan to -not- do anything during those times that requires any scheduling or large periods of time like that. That way these things will never catch you off guard. *shrugs*

Quote:Exactly. I had no problem doing the farm-work to get these badges but the thought of traditional "gold farming" or "power leveling" characters bores me to tears. I think the fact that different people can play this game in so many different ways makes this game great.Congorats OP, admittedly the methods described to attain this feat resembles fingernails on a chalkboard to me, but to each their own. ;]

Quote:Congrats GuyPerfect.Well, it's been two years (April of 2010 is when I started), and a whole lotta grinding, failures and trying to get teams together, but I finally have every badge! At least, every badge I can have. Some badges were before my character's time (Celebrant, etc.) and some badges simply aren't available (Passport, etc.). But every badge that could be earned, doggonnit, I earned it.
Quote:That's some serious... dedication... yes, "dedication" is the word I will use. You are very dedicated.Quote:I'll go with that word too. My "badger" gave up (around 150) after solo opening Xmas presents to get the Toy Collector badge. I like the game, but tedium within it is another matter.
What kind of straightjacket does that kind of dedication get me? -
Quote:They might have only made the call for the patch that's been on the Test server since last week to go live like 12 or 24 hours ago. No real time to make a super-formal announcement about it. It's not really a major patch, and since Tuesdays and Thursdays are the "traditional" days for patches/maintenance anyway I almost see no real need to "inform" us about it any more than they already did. I've never really understood why downtimes like this surprise/shock anyone anymore. *shrugs*My guess is that it's that patch that has been on test being published to live.
But I didn't see an announcement for it either, so it isn't just you. -
Quote:There have been other fantasy stories where a girl like Arya tries to pretend to be a boy but I've never seen one where a male friend like Gendry blindly confronts her with her ruse and bluntly challenges her to "prove" her manhood the way he did. I thought it was a very funny scene and well acted by both of them.Arya and Gendry. Great chemistry between the two. The other recruits (young and old) were done well too.
I love how even though Tyrion is sly and devious he's still probably one of the most moral and empathic characters in the show. It's clear that he draws the line at things like killing babies, and it seemed like when Bronn gave him a less than "nice" answer about that subject he realized that Bronn was not exactly the most "like-minded" associate he could have. -
I'll bet if you dug around long enough you could find all sorts of "similarities" in old comics to things that are in this game. That's not to cast any negative light on CoH: That's just an acknowledgement that there are so many thousands of books out there that sheer random chance dictates that someone, somewhere has already thought of almost everything that's in this game in some form or fashion years ago.

Quote:What they NEED is to go back to closed beta testing. That way, people won't be under the impression that they can go posting information/pictures about stuff on beta that may not be part of the content being tested in the general discussion forum.Quote:Dear Lord, protect me from the utter hilariousness of proclaiming: "Let's go back to closed beta so the costume bugs will only leak to the Chosen Few!" mindset. What in hell's bells purpose would that serve?!
Never fool yourself into thinking these Issues are no longer tested in some form of "closed beta" before we get to see it. -
Quote:That's the key right there - you need to have a critical, relatively large, number of people to pull this off. In reality that's the only "hard" part about this.I have done this twice on Virtue. Was a lot of fun, and it wasn't just one ship. If you get enough people you can take out the entire conga line of them. They fall one after another. Once you have the critical mass to make it happen it can be a bit too easy.
I'm certainly not saying it's impossible to do even now. I just tend to understand Positron's reasons for not making a badge out of this. It's the same basic reason we don't have standard defeat badges for GMs in general. *shrugs* -
It might turn out that the only way the Devs can keep us from getting hyper-overpowerful is to make the last few Incarnate powers be somewhat fluff-oriented like special auras or power customizations. Anything like adding many more combat-oriented powers or level shifts will just make it that much harder for them to balance the game at this point.
