Quote:The "I don't like it, so I'll deny my customers it" reasoning just doesnt cut it if you ask me ¬.¬Quote:in all honesty though, a person whose job is to design things really kind of has to work with what he does. If he isn't skilled at making monster bits, then you cant force it. Its a shame he is held back by such a silly mindset, but if he isn't any good at it, i guess you cant force him. hopefully the other artists have a more robust skill set in this regard.
Now obviously he can't give into all of our wishes at the drop of a hat. Making Furry based costume items might in fact be hard to do and might be beyond Jay's or the game's capability to handle. But I would much rather hear Jay say something diplomatic like "We'll look into that for you" than to say something that amounts to "I don't give a crap whether that's one of your biggest desires or not I will never give it to you."
For a Dev to be so absolute like that is annoying at best and shows he has little regard or respect for the people who effectively pay his salary. -
If I had to guess I would imagine that the GR closed beta will start around February 1st because that's right around the time Star Trek Online is going to go live. Think about it...
-
Yeah the Devs had to make sure all the gender references switched (including badges) when they added that feature to the game. You could tell that was going to be the case based on the patch notes at the time. When it was first being "beta-ed" some of the badges DIDN'T switch gender and those had to be fixed.
-
If I had to guess the Devs decided to block certain badges from one faction or another because they assumed (up until the time being) that the factions were not going to be allowed to switch sides. While I don't agree with that policy I can at least understand it.
If I recall correctly Positron mentioned that when he first restricted villains from getting the RV Isolator that it was in fact the very first time they had ever bothered to specifically hardcode that kind of thing. If that's the case then there was technically a time that (theoretically at least) any character could get any badge regardless of faction. The only thing that kept people from getting certain badges was simply a lack of zone access.
Seems like when Going Rogue happens all they really need to do is revert this game back to the state which removes any factional restrictions on earning badges. Now of course there may still be some individual badges that'll pose some unique challenges for the Devs (such as how the patron badges will work) but all in all I expect many of the 'artificial' factional restrictions to go away with GR. -
I think as Master-Blade implied this is the kind of question we can't really answer yet because we know virtually nothing about how the whole badge thing is going to play out when Going Rogue happens. I have some general ideas about what I plan to do about it, but until I know exactly what the pros and cons are of switching sides it's kind of hard to say with absolute certainty. There is no guarantee that characters who started on either side will ever be 100% "equal" in this regard.
Even though we've only had serious news about side switching in the last year or so the Devs have been hinting at giving it to us almost from the beginning, even before CoV was finished. This is the main reason why I was never too serious about having a villain badger - I took a gamble that eventually, in some far off future, we'd get the chance to switch sides in some form or fashion. I'm obviously looking forward to seeing how that turns out. -
Ironically my original main's background story was of a villain that turned good. Of course back in April 2004 CoV didn't even exist much less side switching so Going Rogue is kind of a "why didn't that happen 6 years ago" thing for me. Now I'm stuck with a hero AT for that character when it would have made more sense for her to have been a villain AT turned hero.
As for others I've got a few that'll go for RP reasons and others that'll likely go for badging reasons. My final determination of who goes will be based on the exact details. For instance until I know how SGs are going to work there are some alts that I may or may not end up switching. Hopefully all that will work out reasonably well. -
Quote:But surely there are others out there who took more advantage than I did of the... err... *efficient* way to make progress on these. So who out there is closer to completing all day job badges than I am? Just curious.Quote:Several of my lesser played characters have recently started their final day jobs, I think the first one should receive his final day job on the 28th of December
Obviously the Devs hate the blueside... -
I'm not quite as far along as some other people here are. Ironically one of my "semi-retired non-badging" alts will probably be done with all of them before my main badgers are. I decided long ago I'd never let these badges ever force me to -not- play with my main characters whenever I wanted to so I haven't been too hyper about it.
Regardless I expect my alts will be done with all the currently obtainable ones well before I17 and/or Going Rogue introduces the possibility of any new ones so that's good enough for me.
P.S. My badge sig totals are out of date by several months now. I plan to update them eventually but being on a naval vessel with restricted net access will tend to do that to me from time to time. Oh well. -
Quote:You have a valid point about finding the female version of the Walk power "distasteful". With only one animation possible it was obvious that not everyone was going to like it regardless of how distasteful it was or not.Pretty much never, as I previously stated in most of those other threads about the topic.
I'm glad you find it mesmerizing, but I'm in the group that finds female walk distasteful except for my one streetwalker character.
Actually, I will take the "never" back - since I have so many alts, I will occasionally try it on a character I haven't played in a while to see if it fits her. But it never does, except in the case of the streetwalker.
The obvious "perfect world" solution to this would be to allow us to somehow choose exactly how any given character moves when they walk. Clearly that solution would probably be very hard for our Devs to implement software-wise. So without that perfect solution we are stuck with what we got.
I have some characters for whom that sexy walk animation is appropriate for. I have other characters who probably would not be caught dead walking like that. It's not a "one size fits all" power I and don't think it ever could be.
Basically we all have to accept it for what it is. As a power that was freely provided to us as a QoL update it's ultimately hard to be upset with its existence in the game one way or another at this point. -
I can see your point, especially in an organized PvP type situation where teammates need to rely on every visual cue they can get to quickly react to the combat situation.
But beyond that I think we all need to accept that a "cost" of power customization is the slightly uncertain world we now live in. Yes it's mildly disconcerting that I can't instantly tell exactly what powers are flying around like I used to be able to. But I will gladly accept that to have the "realism" of powers being any color. Frankly it was always a bit "unrealistic" to have everyone's Radiant Aura be green (for example) regardless of the origin or mechanics of a power.
So while I agree with you that power customization does come with this minor downside I would not go so far as to encourage people to deny themselves in the least. I suppose it would be nice if people followed your suggestion, but I'm not going expect it or be upset if they don't. -
I for one never assumed a Walk power would ever become the most widely used "travel" power. I don't think even the people who have been suggesting we have the ability to walk in this game for years ever assumed they would use it 100% of the time themselves.
The Walk power is serving the exact purpose it was designed to serve: as a QoL improvement for those people who wanted it. I sometimes use it when the situation makes sense for it, which mostly means during RP and/or non-combat situations. It's quite obvious not everyone's going to use it all of the time and I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who will never use it. That fact doesn't make its existence in this game a failure of some sort. One can almost think of it like a special emote that does a bit more than a standard emote, like the costume change emotes. I wouldn't consider a specific emote a waste of time even if I don't use it myself. *shrugs*
Basically the Walk power fills a small gap in movement abilities that made sense to be filled to provide a bit of realism to the game. That's all - nothing more or less. For what it's worth I am obviously glad it finally happened. -
No worries. The Devs only started giving them to us about a year ago even though they had been suggested for years.
Have fun. -
There are currently something like 15 costume change emotes so far and the Devs seem intent on adding more.
Adding Origin inspired ones is a good idea but they should not be limited to only be usable by specific Origins. It would be unfair to existing characters to be denied access to something like that. All characters should have an opportunity to be able to use any emote like that. -
Well let's just say your opinion on the matter is probably different from that of the Devs. They've had 6+ months to decide whether this has been "game breaking" or not. My guess is that they don't see it the way you do. *shrugs*

While your suggestion is fairly focused you still, in essence, want to be able to insta-purchase Vet awards as microtransactions. This has nothing to do with PvP or with Vet awards being "special" or not.
I have nothing against microtransactions or in favor of the Vet award system in general. But there's really no way you can justify being able to purchase "one part of one Vet award" without opening the flood gates toward the collapse of the entire Vet award system as we know it. Why would the Devs stop at "one part of one Vet award" without allowing us to buy any Vet award we wanted? People would scream bloody murder if only "some" Vet awards were purchasable that way and not others.
Basically there is no middle ground with this. Either this game should have Vet awards that are only obtainable by being a Vet or they should allow us to purchase -anything- we want with microtransactions. You can't have it both ways and still have it be the least bit reasonable. -
To be clear the "change" wasn't that they stopped allowing level 34 and under characters to get this badge. The change in question was that they started allowing level 34 and under characters to enter the Rikti War Zone in the first place. Technically speaking level 34 and under characters could never originally get the badge anyway, but at least now they can earn credit for it.

Quote:For me my personal "would pay $9.99 for just one item" thing would be an animated devil tail. I waited over two years to get demony wings for my main and it'd be nice (after almost 6 years) to finally get a swishing demony tail for her too.All I want from a mutant pack is a fox tail. That alone would be worth $9.99 from me.
Hopefully we'll eventually get several types of animated tails and tails they'll let us wear belts with too... -
Quote:I understand what Jay's saying about this. Ideally we should be able to have ANY costume item look acceptable with every animation.Pretty sure Jay has said he will only add long skirts when he can get it to not look stupid. The issue is how do you have a long skirt on a Martial Arts type character. It's difficult to say the least.
But I realize the current software limitations of the way costume items interact with our characters and the problems that occur with clipping. I would be willing to accept a more liberal allowance of items with the default acknowledgement that if I tried to do something extreme like martial arts in a long skirt that it might look bad. I could live with that limitation if that meant I could have long skirts with any character, especially characters that I choose NOT to do martial arts with because I have enough common sense not to try that.
Basically it bothers me that we are denied certain costume items simply because they are not 100% "perfect" clipping-wise. I want to be able to have more control over what my characters wear even if that means having to put up with a few scenarios or combinations that might cause problems. Ultimately players should have as much freedom as possible to decide what looks good or not. -
Ever since the Vet system started I've gotten most of mine within a day or so of when they were expected. But I've had a couple that I've had to petition for because they were late. I've never figured out a pattern with what made those "broken" versus the other ones. I pay for this game annually so at least I know whatever's going on doesn't seem to be related to monthly account payment issues.
Basically I just keep an eye one it and hope that it doesn't break each time. I wish it were more reliable, but it looks like we may just have to put up with it being randomly flakey with some people. *shrugs* -

'You're cured, mate.' Bloody do-gooder."... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order...
No matter what MMO Devs give us someone will always be dissatisfied. -
Quote:I'm not going to dispute your line of thinking here as far as GR goes but for what it's worth I still think of this Pretoria when I see this mentioned. I guess this real city's name is spelled too closely for me to stop thinking about the "wrong" one first.I think it's more to do with the fact that Praetoria = anceint Rome in a sci-fi superhero setting
Rome - ruled by an emperor who's worshipped as a god, and protected by an elite force called the Praetorian Guard.
Praetoria - ruled by an emperor, who's an incarnate of Zeus, and protected by an elite force called the Praetorian Guard.
Rome - the center of civilization - society is advanced but cruel, and is in conflict with other more primitve societies/"barbarians"
Praetoria - the center of civilization - society is advanced but cruel, and is in conflict with other more primitive societies/barbarians - the Devouring Earth/Resistance.
Rome - slave class as the main workforce.
Praetoria - Clockwork as the main workforce.
Rome - spoke latin.
Praetoria - uses latin names/words like "Nova", "Praetor" and "Praetorian".
And this is just the few details we've been told about so far -
Not sure if a mention of the CoP was literally on the CoV box, but I'm pretty sure the mention of "base raiding PvP" was, and based on the original intentions the CoP was a key part of that collasped house of cards.
For the record I've firmly been in the "dust off the CoP and rework it for PvE" camp for years now. Surely some of that content could be retooled into something worthwhile without having to recreate something new 100% from scratch.
Also as a badger I'm in the "rework the Power Liberator / Master Thief badge into something that can be earned now" camp. The fact that the Devs let that badge remain in the game in its present unearnable form (especially in the light of removing dozens of less broken Architect badges) is an unfortunate legacy to say the least. -
Quote:The way you or I might walk IRL is immaterial to this situation. For what it's worth, I kinda wish the female walk wasn't so exaggeately femine also. I don't walk that way in real life, and I don't know any other women that do either. But then, I'm hardly supermodel material.
I have some female characters who, according to their character backgrounds, would probably walk the way this new power makes them walk. On the other hand I have other female characters who (for various reasons) probably would not be caught dead walking the way this new power makes them walk. It's called roleplaying.
Now it might be cool if we could eventually have several modes of walking for each gender so that we could choose between more or less "suggestive" looking movements. But if that doesn't happen I'm not going to be too upset about it. -
This is the Acrobatics version of the classic Hasten debate. Many people would like to use the speed-up effects of Hasten without the flame animations.
I agree with your point about this. It might be cool to have some new animations applied to Acrobatics only as long as there's finally a "no animations" option allowed for the pool powers. I don't want to be stuck with hardwired animations I shouldn't have to be stuck with.
