Quote:On the other hand if they are going to bother to lower it at all then -anything- lower than 50 would probably upset someone, somewhere. Like for instance you apparently.I agree, but 20? That's a few days of game play at most unless you have severe alt-itis. 30 would've been better, or even 40 (XP-wise, 40 is about halfway to 50).
Not trying to poke fun, just making the point that 20 is really just about as good as any threshold. It's not going to "cheapen" any more or less in the long run than any other less-than-50 number. -
-
The Devs have said for a long time that they considered the "unlocking epics at 50" thing to be a game design mistake on their part. It would seem that they've finally decided to actively do something about it. It never really bothered me that I had to get a 50 for those unlocks, and now years after the fact it's not really going to bother me to have the bar lowered to 20 either. *shrugs*

It could be Ultra-mode testing...
It could be Issue 17 testing...
It could be Going Rogue testing...
I just hope it's something the Devs can TELL us about fairly soon. -
Quote:Oh I have no delusions that CO isn't copying CoX as well. For instance I believe they are going to (if they haven't already) introduce a "mission difficulty adjustment" feature like ours.Seeing as you did, I would be forced to assume: yes. But don't you dare assume the imitation is only one direction here.
Regardless, competition is good for both games. CoX now has to keep up with CO's innovations, and the reverse is true. Competition is the basis for capitalism, and it is the foundation for success.
This is why I laugh at people who are zealous diehards for one game or the other. Sure I like CoX a lot more than CO myself, but I realize that I'd much rather have a game like CO exist to motivate our Devs to innovate via competition than for them to get away with having the "Superhero MMO" monopoly again and stagnate. -
Quote:Exactly... I WILL thank Cryptic for implementing a Walk in Champions Online which finally "motivated" the Devs of this game into giving us a Walk here after asking for it for over 5 years. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.Thank you Cryptic for giving Champions Online "walk", now CoX has their own version, and its fierce!
P.S. Do I even have to mention the CO Acrobatics/CoX Ninja Run "coincidence"? -
Quote:My guess is that the "appropriate time" will be tomorrow when a certain other space-based MMO is set to officially launch.I say something is ultra fun and we get a full blown rumor mill
I did say we should have an announcement of some sort this week, and I'll stick by that. What will it be? You'll have to wait and find out. I'd love to give it to you now, but we've got to wait until the appropriate time.
Looking forward to being able to give you more info, -
Years ago people suggested badges for time using various travel powers. Of course that would have required you to have certain specific powers so naturally many people balked at that. But because everyone has access to Walk I have no particular problem with the idea one way or the other.
Let's just say if such badges were added to the game my badgers would get them regardless. -
Yeah it's funny how resource caps work in games like these. For instance I'd imagine at least 99.9% of the players of this game will never hit the 2 billion INF cap, yet those 0.1% who do probably all wish the cap was either like 100 billion or non-existent.
Sadly I expect that since this "problem" affects so few people I doubt it'll ever be changed at this point. -
Quote:Yeah that's probably a reasonable alternative. As a player who likes to collect badges I honestly don't care that much about the bonuses Day Jobs provide so if other people wouldn't mind multiple new Day Jobs being linked to the same kinds of benefits then I wouldn't either. It'd be much easier to just accept a doubling up of bonuses, Lothic. I'd be a lot less annoyed if Student gave an identical bonus to Police Officer than if it gave no bonus at all. The idea of having to choose between "No day job bonus" or "New badge" really isn't an appealing one. It already hurts a little when you go to a day job that doesn't do much for you (like Arachnos Official on my guy who has Fly).
Quote:You're not expected to have all the badges. If you're that obsessive a badger that you stopped playing your character to get that extra speed on day job badges, well... It clearly means you've got all the other badges on your character to have that sort of time and he's done anyway. So this lets you keep getting badges. -
Quote:That actually opens up a larger question: do future Day Jobs they might want to add to the game have to have any bonuses/powers associated with them or could they just be for badges? What benefits would you receive from being a student though?
I think the way they came up with cool little bonuses for the current Day Jobs was a cool idea. But it seems like the Devs might have forced a limitation on themselves if they think every Day Job -must- be connected to some kind of bonus like that. There's only so many unique kinds of things they could come up with to link Day Jobs to.
I think they could probably add a bunch of other Day Jobs (like Student) if they accepted the idea of just making them good for badges. The people who only care about Day Jobs for the bonuses could stick to those and other people who only care about Day Jobs as badges could have some new ones to earn. Seems like a win-win to me. -
Quote:Congrats PunchinJudy. I had been keeping pace with you for a long time but it was hard for me to play (or even shuffle Day Job badgers around) when I was out at sea without free access to play MMOs for most of the last 4 months.Just hit 698 badges today, finishing up my last remaining day job. All done with badges now on my part. Until future vet rewards, the Valentines day event and Going Rogue bring with them what they may, that is..
I'll have two badgers tied up to 696 in a couple of months even if I don't play seriously until Going Rogue happens. It'll be interesting to see just how many more badges GR will bring. I'm hoping it'll be more than just a few new Explores.
Now I'll just have to renew my efforts to figure out how to steal your Power Liberator... whoops, did I type that out loud. -
My main Peacebringer has done all her epic arcs. But my main badger (a Controller) has actually done all of the Peacebringer and Warshade arcs as well. Managed to do them with other epic AT people who were able to start them. Basically this means she has every Souvenir a hero can currently have. She even has the Soul Orb from the old Calvin Scott TF. Too bad there's not a badge for having all the Souvenirs.
-
Well I might be a bit behind on my Day Jobs because of my overseas travel but I had all my Ouro arcs done for my main hero and villain well over a year ago. Welcome to that club. Hoping that GR will add plenty more to do.

Quote:For the record I've never been "bent out of shape over" this. And yeah, it's true that you "shouldn't have it," but it's not worth getting bent out of shape over, and I appreciate your previews. I'll be getting mine next week+, then (Feb. 1). At least, I have plenty of other issues to get my dander up over.
I just have this silly misguided desire for games like this to follow their OWN rules about the way anniversary based awards are supposed to work. -
Quote:Well it only took a couple of years but I finally have you trained so I don't really -have- to respond anymore. Just kidding...Shh, the Boogielothic might be watching.
Seriously: I'm guessing the "badges" weren't in game until yesterday. According to my accelerated schedule, I'd be dinging them around the 6th of the month now, but this was nearly two weeks after that. I'd be fine if they withheld badge availability 'til the week of the technical anniversary. As someone would state, it'd be nice if they fixed it, but withholding the badge data 'til the scheduled anniversary would be a good patch until they figured out why there's account anniversary creep.
So yeah, got the badge. Freespec is always nice. Wish the badge name for 69 month was "Rico... Suave", but that's me. XD -
Everything is relative to something else. BAB's version of "soon" is probably pretty quick when compared to the expected heat-death of the universe several 100 billion years from now.
Us old timers have already learned that a Dev's version of "soon" is a bit skewed from anyone else's. While it's kind of fun to be upset by it is this "lack-of-news" really news to anyone? -
STO is set to launch in just over two weeks time. Based on the history our Devs have with liking to "react" to what other MMOs are doing I would suspect that some kind of significant news about Going Rogue is going to arrive within the next couple of weeks.

Quote:Oh I absolutely agree. These supposedly "special" NPCs are easily among the least important ones I can think of in this entire game. The idea that the Devs need to restrict their unique costume items from us is borderline ridiculous. Besides these girls are "fashion models" which means by definition they are supposed to be showing off costumes that are intended for other people to wear. They -want- us to have those things.I understand keeping NPCs unique, but... a few girls who don't fight, don't have any development, and only appear in one mission? Really?
Sure the Devs ought to keep Statesman's costume restricted. But these NPCs?
The difference between the two are night and day. -
Quote:I wasn't being literal with the idea that "if GR does not give us 5+ new ATs it will be a failure". I was just comparing one retail expansion with another in terms of a feature of a similar scope. As an expansion, I believe GR should devote about half its effort to adding new content for both sides, and half its effort enhancing the existing content in some way. That means I don't consider the number of new archetypes in GR to be significant. In fact if they had the resources to make five all new archetypes I would rather they spend them making just a couple new archetypes and add more powerset choices to the existing archetypes.
CoV (and at this point I'm not going to quibble about whether it was a pure expansion like GR will be or not) ultimately provided a certain amount of content to the overall game. If GR does not give us 5 ATs and their associated powersets then I would hope that what it does provide is an amount of content at least equivalent to or exceeding that.
Basically I'm saying that if not 5+ new ATs we better be getting something at least as cool as what another 5+ ATs would have been like. -
Apart from the clipping issues (real or imagined) I think the other main reason the Devs choose to keep some of these costume items as "NPC only" is in an attempt to make these NPCs unique. I guess the idea is if people had access to all the parts then people would make clones of important characters and they wouldn't stand out as special anymore.
Now personally I'd love to have access to everything in the game for my characters especially these Fashion Victim boots. I'd even be willing to pay for them as a microtransaction in the Booster Pack format. But unfortunately I don't see it happening anytime soon. -
Quote:Obviously I only "know" what they've told us, and that's clearly not much yet.I try not to nit-pick, but;
How do you know this? Dual Pistols while, yes, 'just another ranged set', does have more to it than that, and the only things we know for sure are the ammo types, ammo changing, and looking cool.
Demons we know even less about, except that (Maybe), the whip means it's more a melee centric MM set?
Also, we dont know if they have new ATs planned or not. They might, for all we know (or dont, more importantly). And Praetoria itself is a whole new load of stuff to do, I'd guess.
That's really the crux of the problem right now.
The core of my point was that the last time we got a major retail expansion (in this case I'm referring to CoV) we got like 5 new ATs and a bunch of powersets to go with them. Sure it's possible that they are going to sneak a new AT or two into this (maybe like a new version of a Praetorian epic AT perhaps) but at this point it just seems like GR is likely going to ultimately offer less in this area than CoV did. That would be unfortunate. *shrugs* -
It's probably fair to say that many long time vets are more or less just "treading water" waiting for GR to give us something new to do. Most of my logging in lately has just been to shuffle alts around for Day Job badges but since most of my alts are almost done with that I won't even have that excuse anymore. The game has been around for nearly 6 years now so to even be -that- interested in it still is a bit of a miracle as far as I'm concerned.
On the up side GR is going to give us Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning. On the down side both of those are really close variations of pre-existing powersets that only sport new animations. One could reasonably say that with a big retail expansion they should perhaps offer more than just two semi-new powersets.
On the "raise the level cap" front I expect based on everything the Devs have said that will never happen. But I'm still holding out hope for the "universal ENH slot" system that was described in the August 2008 market survey. Basically it was intended as a new kind of thing for level 50 characters to achieve that would simulate having to earn a new "level" for each slot. The net effect is that it would be like having to earn levels 51-60. Ever since that market survey was released many of the things it mentioned for the future of the game have come to pass so I feel that the chances of this universal slot system being in GR is pretty high.
As far as "more things to buy" I think we could all agree that would be a good thing. Hopefully the markets will be reformed/expanded to handle the new features.
The Devs of this game have a history of doing things that "conveniently coincide" with the activities of other MMOs. I strongly suspect that with the launch of Star Trek Online just a few weeks away that we will be seeing more GR news very soon. In fact the idea that the closed beta for GR could start on the first week of February would not surprise me in the least. -
This tweet from BAB is encouraging and it seems timely given that the upcoming Mutant booster pack is a likely place for -any- improvments in costume tails. I'm obviously hoping that means we'll be getting animated tails, but even if it's just going to be "tails with belts" that would be a welcomed change.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing them restored to their old "50%" values.
Years ago in a pre-market, pre-ED, pre-IO and pre-purple world having Hamis set at 50% was probably too high because that made them far too valuable and game-affecting. But now that things have majorly changed since then the idea of having 50% Hamis is far less unbalancing. The typical player fully loaded with purples is likely going to be far more powerful now than a player would be fully equipped even with a bunch of 50% Hamis.
Restoring Hamis would make them that much more unique and worthwhile. It'd encourage more people to go to the raids and give us more competitive high-end options compared to just purple ENHs. I'm not sure if this would ever happen but I just can't think of a good reason why it would be a bad move at this point.
