Animated hair would still be cool. But from a "how hard is it to produce" point of view I've always assumed we would get animated tails in this game long before animated hair. Of course now that the animated tails hurdle has been overcome animated hair looks that much more possible at some point.

As I said I guess it'll never end completely. I'm not saying you are right or wrong, I'm just saying the whining about it is one of those things you can always count on in these forums.

I guess the "equal content for both sides" whining will never end.
Then again GR might finally put a muzzle on some of that...

Not right now but with this I17 news I suppose they could be adding something like that.

I suppose saying "better late than never" is all I can say about that.

As far as the lag issue goes I'm sure technically animated tails will add to it. But I honestly can't see how it will make things that much worse on average than the random people running around with capes and wings already lag things out. Besides we are talking about this kind of update related to the very same issue that's providing Ultra Mode for those who can benefit from it. *shrugs*

The problem I have with it is that it doesn't seem like it would be anything more than a one mission novelty that's already "accomplishable" with the Mission Architect. I'm sure there are already dozens, if not hundreds of doppelganger arcs out there already that people have made who are interested in that sort of thing.

War Witch's post is implying there's not going to be a whole "system" based on this similar to the CO Nemesis system. That means there is no ongoing hardwired arcs related to doppelgangers or Nemesi or anything like that. While it might be cool if the GR content had a mission where you were forced to play against a Praetorian clone of your character I just don't see that as being worthy of an entire system on a brand new expansion beyond that single scenario.
  7. They might release some kind of new epic AT or powerset that we haven't heard about yet directly related to the Praetorian content for GR. But because they've gone out of their way to go through closed/open beta cylces for Dual Pistols and (reportedly soon) for Demon Summoning I doubt there's going to be any other general powersets beyond those. Why bother with public betas for some powersets but not any others you've got ready to go?

Just because CoV offered up a bunch of ATs/powersets doesn't mean GR must do the same. *shrugs*

I don't discount your conclusion about this out of hand but people have been asking for these things since at least CoH beta that I can remember.
Perfection is one thing, but it has been 6+ years now. Just how -perfect- do these things have to be?
  9. I'm pretty sure I understand what's going on with all this, but I did have to think about it to decide my overall "purchase strategy" for it.

It amazes me how needlessly convoluted game companies like to make things. The presentation of this kind of pricing scheme should be as instantly obvious and simplistic as possible. People shouldn't have to waste unnecessary effort deciding the best way to spend money on a company's products.

I like this game, but I don't want my spending real life money on it to become part of a "game" that I have to figure out as well.

When they got more people, it became possible. THAT is the reason we got power customization - not just because of people asking.
    <nitpicking the nitpick>
I contend part of the reason they were able to justify ramping up their staffing was that they knew they had definite player "wish list" content like Power Customization they could accomplish that would make their game more desirable to play thus providing more profit to the company. Players constantly asking for things like that motivated them to get the manpower they needed to do it.

Regardless even though I think it'd be cool I don't think "clicking on chairs to activate emotes" is on the same level as Power Customization was in terms of priorities for new improvements. They could be reasonably sure that large numbers of people would get a benefit from Power Customization - sitting around in chairs... not so much.
  11. This suggestion is almost as fun as the one I read a few years ago that would have the Devs maintaining an entire "ED-less" server just for us old-timers.

I really don't understand the fascination with wanting to return to a pre-ED setting in any form. Clearly ED was something that should have been in place since Day One for reasonable balance reasons. Fortunately that "lesson learned" has been in place for many years now. Sure it was technically a nerfing at the time, but one that we needed for the overall health of the game.

I guess people still lust after exploiting game systems that allow for silly amounts of over-poweredness.

I doubt it needs to be said again that no one on this side of the game knows for sure what limitations will be placed on badging for the other side; it might hide the badges that can't traditionally be earned by the faction you just joined until you return to your original faction. We just don't know.

Of course, there will be new badges. Enough to push the total up to 1000? Probably not, but here's to hoping!
I've always taken the long view when it comes to what side-switching might mean for badging. Remember the Devs have been vaguely implying it might/would happen even before CoV officially launched.

I figure whatever the pros and cons are I have at least two serious badgers to apply to the situation. It could turn out that a character who side-switches has to accept some serious disadvantages or limitations that a character who doesn't side-switch won't have to deal with. If worse comes to worst I can always side-switch with one of my badgers and not the other to get the best of both possibilities.
  13. Well back six years ago my original main's character background was that of a raven-haired "demon summoner" who started out as a manipulative, charismatic villain but realized the errors of her ways and chose to become a hero. Obviously demon summoning and side-switching didn't exist back then so I went with a Fire Controller at the time.

Not that I'm accusing anyone of anything but Desdemona is a very close clone of my six year old character. Obviously the concept is not exactly unique to either me or the Devs of this game, but I think it's kind of funny how close they ended up "copying" my character.
  14. I seem to remember when this was suggested years ago that the Devs basically told us it'd be pretty hard for them to do. Of course they said the same thing about Power Customization as well.

The reason we finally got Power Customization was that there was a large and vocal group of people constantly asking for it over the years. Unfortunately I don't think there are nearly the same number of people harping on them for this kind of QoL improvement so the chances it'll ever happen here are greatly reduced. *shrugs*

We've known as long ago as August 2008 (with the release of the now famous "Marketing Survey") that the Devs were planning to give 50's something new to earn to make them stronger in the upcoming expansion. According to that survey it was going to involve 10 new "universal enhancement slots" which could be used in our existing powers.

I have absolutely no problem "losing" the goal of unlocking epics at 50 if we end up with something like this to replace it.

Frankly I've gotten so many hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of enjoyment from this game over the last six years that the idea of "having" to pay another $40 to get even more entertainment from this game is a no-brainer for me.

If I were to try to average the extra $40 into the overall total I've spent on this game per hour of play time my average would probably go from like 10 cents an hour to like 10.5 cents an hour. From that point of view the cost of GR for me will be effectively insignificant in the greater scheme of things.

We've know for many, many months that GR was likely going to be a retail expansion. If money is truly an issue for you it should have been easy enough to set aside like $5 a month to budget for its eventual release. Basically I have no sympathy for anyone claiming "GR should be a free expansion" when they have two or more multi-year old accounts at this point... Sorry.

Until we know for sure I would assume these are going to be more like the default stances you can have in Champions Online implemented here as emotes. Champions Online may be an inferior game to CoX in many ways, but it's cool that we can steal some of the few good ideas they did come up with.

Ironically the background story of my original main character 6 years ago was of a "demon summoner" who turned from the dark side to become a hero. She basically pre-dated not only the side switching concept but the demon summoner powerset as well.

Even though I was too early playing this game to create the exact character concept I was thinking of I'm looking forward to creating a new demon summoning villainess who will be the "prequel" to my original main.

None the less, most people I know ran out of stuff to do in that other game within 2 weeks.
You might not have been the only mission farmer out there, but you're easily one of the more "famously boastful" about it here on the forums. To each their own I suppose.

Anyway what other game? Wasn't talking about or implying any other game. *shrugs*

Too bad they don't have a badge for killing one billion Behemoths because you'd probably be just about the only person who'd have it.

Just because something is described as being exclusive at some point does not imply that it will be exclusive forever.

I doubt we would ever get anything 100% identical to CO's Nemesis system.
But I could easily see a CoX "doppelganger" system become our equivalent to it.

While it might be fun to stand in a room and fight NPC clones of my characters that by itself would not be very fun for long. I would suspect that the "doppelganger" system would be introduced as a series of missions, a TF or some other kind of random encounters that would expand the concept out longer than just one massive fight scene.

I've been seeing people make that suggestion here for years.
The Devs may have even been working on something like that for years as well.
But I still believe that the existence of CO's Nemesis system has now actually made the "doppelganger" idea a viable priority here.
Once again I'll say I love competition, especially against an inferior game that we can cherry-pick the few good ideas they've come up with.

On the other hand to blindly assume CO didn't have -any- effect on the development of these things for this game is a bit shortsighted. Sure our Devs might have been sort of working on these things for years, but they are finally getting done now instead of later in response to something. *shrugs*
