Quote:I could list Empath, Leader, Immortal, Paradigm, Jailed, Exalted and even Zookeeper for the same reason.Immortal (partly because I earned it under the old requirements)
Heck I could even thrown in getting post-tutorial Isolator and Reformed before Ouroboros too.

Aren't there some countries out there who require their ISPs to enforce bandwidth/download limits from international sites? I vaguely remember reading about some Australian players who were worried about that kind of thing. I have absolutely no idea how things might work from Kenya as far as that goes. Good luck regardless.

Quote:I still want some jetpack costume pieces, dammit. Not everyone wants to wear wings or rocketboots.I made a character almost 6 years ago who I envisioned used a "Buzz Lightyear" type jetpack / retractable wing combo device to fly with. At the time I knew that kind of thing didn't exist but I always kept assuming that "any time now" the Devs would create one. Obviously I'm still waiting...Quote:I'd also like a jetpack with mechanical wings! No, not the Sky Raiders version.
And Enforcer rocket boots. 'Cause those totally look like thrusters on the bottom of the feet, don't they?

Yeah I might entertain this "badge access" idea if the Devs did -not- already have plans to allow Prime Earthers into Praetoria at some point. But based on everything that happened during the Going Rogue beta it seems very likely that we'll be able to travel more freely to and from Praetoria as soon as Issue 19.
Think of it this way: After the launch of both CoH and CoV it took the Devs an extra Issue to finish up the higher level content. Remember that Peregrine Island didn't open up until Issue 1 and Grandville didn't open until Issue 7. So it seems reasonable to expect that higher level Praetorian/Incarnate content (open to all players) will arrive in Issue 19.
Be patient - good things come to those that wait.

Quote:Your interpretation of "Peacebringer" being a workable villain AT name actually highlights the apparent difficulty the Devs faced when they were coming up with AT titles. Because English is such a complex language it was clearly hard for them to come up with enough names for ATs that were completely alignment-neutral. Case in point the word "Peacebringer" could imply being heroic or villainous to different subsets of people.Actually, Peacebringer is a great villainous name. The villain who brings peace to everyone through the iron fist of tyranny. After all, the "pax romana" was only peaceful because the Roman Empire had conquered half the known world and crushed their enemies before them.
Even though a few of the current AT names are very problematic I still don't think it's worth the Devs' effort to change them. Not only would it require a huge amount of rework for all the text in the game but then you'd likely have people complaining about the changes regardless. There might actually be a few people who like (for whatever reason) the idea of being a "Heroic Corrupter".
People are always going to have different interpretations of what the titles mean to them when it comes to being heroic or villainous and the Devs' will never be able to make 100% of the people 100% happy with this. I think they should just leave sleeping dogs lie with this issue. -
Quote:Well I'll be the first to admit the game story "pretense" that they are there to keep the Rikti out has always been a bit silly all things considered.I’d would rather them to just get rid of them completely, because honestly they aren’t doing any good keeping the Rikti out. Since issue 10 they keep doing down more often than a college coed and their panties. Just get rid of them and make the city feel more open. I really don’t mind the invisible blue barriers at all.

But from a software programming point of view they were put there as an easy excuse to justify the need to have zone boundaries in the first place. I'm guessing it was the best they could come up with back in 2002-2004 when they were making the original game.
I'd have to assume it would be far easier for the Devs to simply make the existing walls look better than it would be to remove them completely. You have to look at this from the Devs' point of view: If it'd take say 100 hours of work to make the walls look better versus 1,000 to remove them then the easier "solution" is going to be the quicker one.
Sure in the best case scenario we'd end up with completely redesigned zones with no War Walls. But realistically speaking that's probably not going to happen until CoH2 like Techbot Alpha said. -
Quote:I'll grant you the idea that depending on AT, powersets and/or powers chosen that the Vet attack powers might be more or less useful in certain situations. But just because you don't find them useful in your particular situation doesn't mean they might be more useful in others.I'm sorry I think I should have made this abit more clear. I'm on a low level Stalker and when i waste end with the vet rewards it means I can't use my normal attacks.
My 8 toggle comment is refering to my fire tank who runs 8 and doesn't waste anywhere NEAR as much as the vet rewards.
As for the comment to my skills at playing CoH I thought Drama like this was for World of Warcraft. All I said is I feel these are a waste of time. Then again the forum's leave people open to attack from others who have no life.
Basically it looks like you've taken your one data point (your tactics with your low level Stalker) and decided that since Vet attack powers don't seem to help you that they are fundamentally flawed for everyone and need to be changed. Your weak argument for Vet attack power "improvement" has been what people are questioning. Come up with something better to support your position than "your feelings" and we won't need to pick it apart. The Devs would need some real evidence to prove that the powers are broken and need attention before they'd spend the time to change them. Provide some evidence. *shrugs* -
I wouldn't mind a general revamping of some of the oldest Paragon City zones, especially since we've seen a steady improvement in zone appearance as the game has evolved through CoV and now GR. But as far as the War Walls specifically go I've never had much problem with them, at least not as much problem as other people apparently have had.
To be honest I prefer the obvious zone boundaries the War Walls provide to the alternative "wall-less" concept which ultimately let you hit artificial invisible boundaries. CoV manages to avoid that weirdness with being based mostly on islands, but in any other case it's just strange to be able to bump up against invisible boundaries. If the game world can't be a literal spherical world where you can keep flying in one direction long enough to make it back to where you started then having obvious visible walls is not really so bad. -
Quote:Yeah in the "real world" the idea of wearing some of the stuff you see in fashion shows as -real- clothing is questionable. But we are talking about Paragon City here with people running around in comicbook styled costumes. As "impractical" as the model's clothing is it's pretty much par for the course in standard female superhero attire.Heh, I didn't realize that irony until I thought about it myself while reading this thread. A fashion model with costume parts that Jay said we'd probably never get

There again, there's a lot of runway concept stuff that is never meant for retail. But still, those boots and loincloths would be pretty nice on a few player characters

Quote:The real irony is that even though she is a NPC in the game she's technically a fashion model in that mission. In other words she's supposedly showing off clothing intended for other people to wear. It's always been funny to me that the items she's wearing were literally meant to be available to other super-powered people (a.k.a. players) in Paragon City.Ahh! She's the model in the Ouroboros mission isn't she? Ok. Too bad! I was hoping it was in one of the boosters I didn't have and was going to run and buy it.

-
The pic Bandaider used to describe what someone "in game" was wearing is a bit misleading.

Turns out that's a pic of a special NPC in a mission. While the costume top and bottom are available to players (via the Wedding Pack) the belt and boots are currently not available to players. I say "currently" because that belt and those boots are probably among the top suggested items that players want the Devs to give to us players to use. The Devs have hinted that they are looking at providing more costume items in future Booster Packs so the hope is that these things will become available to us in the future.

Quote:The irony of wanting to earn this badge without doing Mayhems was that I sort of got it stuck in my head that the only place you COULD earn this badge was in Mayhems. Now that I think about it I suppose there are ways to do it without Mayhems, but to me that'd be like tying one hand behind your back for this. Good luck regardless.Am usually solo and happy to run at +8 foes so would be grateful for any steers as to a good location or mission (not mayhems) that I could crack on to the total please.

Quote:What if it's really going to be two different Moon zones?Unless they actually called it "Stupid Moon Zone," which would be awesome.
Then they could name them Moon Unit Alpha and Moon Unit Zappa.
P.S. Instead of a Moon zone(s) they need a space station zone so we can have a cool Moonraker styled fight setting.

Quote:These Vet attack powers are very good for filling the niche they were designed for.Am I the only one who see's the Vet rewards of the Black Wand, Nemisis Staff and the Sands of Mu Vet powers to be utterly useless? I waste more end on these abilities then I do anything else. Between the three of these powers I hit maybe 30% of the time out of 100%
Is this really how were thanked for playing, Thank you for playing this long here is a power that drains your end faster then 8 toggles running?
Come on they need to be fixed. I don't even use them anymore cause they are a waste of End.
Come on Devs fix these so atleast they work half the time and do somewhat better damage.
They are not meant to be uber-weapons that everyone relies on as primary attack powers.
They help low level characters fill up their weak attack chains. They help various ATs fill gaps in the kinds of attack powers they have (such as giving a non-melee AT a melee power like Sands of Mu). They provide certain extras (like the Nem Staff's Knockback) that some ATs otherwise lack.
Basically by the time you're a fully slotted level 50 character your base powersets should be providing everything you need to do well. Do you really need Vet powers by that time? No not really, but that does not make them "utterly useless". Bottomline the Vet attacks are great at lower levels but become progressively less important towards level 50. If they were any better than that everyone would use them regardless of their native powersets and non-Vets would be at a severe disadvantage until they got them.
When you assess Vet awards you have to pretty much assume they will never be overpowering or ultimately better than what players can achieve without them. Often they help in ways that are not quite as tangible at first glance. -
Quote:And again I'll submit that if you care that much about min/maxing that many multiple builds then you probably already spend billions on those multiple builds. If you spend billions on multiple builds then the cost of needing to buy respec recipes should be seen by you as the "cost" of doing business. So sad for you.yes i'm stupid, limited, a bad player and psycotically neurotic for wanting to keep up with the changes made by the devs on all of my builds.
You should actually be considering yourself lucky the Devs even bothered to give us multiple builds and respec recipes to begin with. To be totally clear about it you should even be glad the Devs give us ANY frespecs when they make changes. There's no rule written anywhere that says they are strictly required to give us ANYTHING in compensation for those changes. They give us the ones they do because they are nice about it, not because they have to.
Give'm an inch and they'll take a mile... *shrugs* -
The Devs give out one frespec when they make significant changes to powers because by default everyone in the game has at least one build per character. One frespec covers their technical obligation to be fair to people who may be forced to make changes to account for power modifications. On the other hand it's your CHOICE to make use of multiple builds. The Devs have no real obligation (assumed or otherwise) to help people who choose to use an optional feature of this game.
Sure you might "want" to get multiple frespecs, but honestly there's very little justification for it and never will be. *shrugs* -
Quote:Yes a few people (like you) might whine about it. But my guess is that anyone who's as serious about multiple builds and Incarnate builds as you seem to be can easily afford what it takes to buy an extra respec recipe when needed. That's why the Devs put respec recipes into the game. It takes a huge amount of INF/Merits to make good use of multiple builds in the first place. Respec recipes cost chump-change in comparison to all that. *shrugs*really?
plan ahead what? when powers are changed by the devs they give a freespec to make necessary changes. only having one freespec when tiny or big changes are made by the devs makes it very inconvenient for multiple build users.
i can't wait to read the community cries after power changes are made and they only have one freespec to use for their pve and incarnate build that does not exemplar down. -
Quote:That's one way to do it. Another way is to the employ the classic badge farmer trick of completing like 99% of the mission and then simply reloging to reset it. Might take a bit longer but may be easier to blaze through for some people (like squishy soloers) than doing a "+0, x4" mission.Well, I did it with my brute and when I got to the seers mission I cranked difficulty to +0, x4.
If you survive, you'll get it. lol
Of course the other, other way is to just simply wait for the Devs to let Prime Earthers into Praetoria.
Once in Praetoria it should be relatively trivial to finish that badge.

I'd agree that now that we play in a post Going Rogue/Crossover game it's unfortunate that AT names like Corruptor, Defender and Peacebringer don't really fit when you have a heroic Corruptor or a villainous Defender/Peacebringer. Since the Devs have been considering allowing Crossovers for years (even well before CoV was finished) you'd think that they would've thought about that and named all ATs in this game using more alignment-neutral names from the start.
But now that the proverbial damage is done I -don't- think these ATs should be renamed. It'd be weird for only a few names to change (for any reason) so late in the game and it'd really only open the door for people to whine about the other names for even less reasonable reasons.
I would chalk this idea up to "It'd be nice on some level, but ultimately isn't really justified" all things considered. -
I still find it unfortunate the Devs decided to go with the "SGs must be alignment oriented" concept in the first place.

I realize it probably made their GR development easier, but players should be allowed to have active members of ANY alignment they want in their SGs. SGs should be alignment-neutral as far as the game system goes, especially since the whole idea of PvP base raiding has effectively been shelved. Forcing the Super Leader of a SG to lose the Red Star because of an alignment shift is at best a sloppy kludge. Hopefully the Devs will rethink the artificial limitations they have imposed on us with this. -
This idea has been suggested pretty much since SG bases were introduced.
As I recall it became a hotly debated topic at the time.
The argument basically came down to whether or not badges could count for something you don't technically own. Some people concluded that since an individual doesn't technically own their own Prestige (since it's a communal SG resource) that gaining personal badges for it didn't make sense. Also they argued that if you quit your SG what would be the basis for the badges staying on your character. Finally people made the point that since it's been so long since I6 that people would have effectively lost all the progress they might have made on these badges since then - the chances that they would make new Prestige badges retroactive would be pretty small.
To me I see absolutely no reason why Prestige badges could not work exactly the same way the INF badges do. The key thing to realize is that the INF badges don't care whether you end up "owning" the INF personally or not. All they are doing is COUNTING the INF you gain from defeating enemies. They are merely count badges. Thus if INF badges are just count badges why couldn't personal Prestige badges be count badges? It wouldn't matter if you didn't personally own the Prestige or which SG you earned the Prestige for. All these badges would do is count the number of Prestige points your actions generated. Obviously the requirements to earn Prestige badges would be a lot lower than the corresponding INF badges, but beyond that they would effectively be identical.
Frankly I think they should have added personal Prestige badges back at the beginning of I6. Adding them now would be a little weird to say the least. But beyond that weirdness I have no conceptual problem with them whatsoever. -
Quote:I would chalk this suggestion up to "it would have been nice if the alignment system was that flexible but it's not likely going to change." The Devs had to make a set of design decisions and compromises when they came up with the alignment system. I just don't see them going through the effort of restructuring all the missions and GUIs to accommodate going directly from Vigilante to Rogue or vice-versa at this point. It would be nice, to have a choice instead of going Hero or Villain in the process to have an alternate choice of Vigilante or Rogue accordingly.
Sure one can look at it as a limitation of the system. But the "workaround" for it is readily available and isn't that difficult for players to adapt to. I suspect a "would be nice" suggestion doesn't really merit the amount of work the Devs would have to do change this. -
Eh, I'm kind of mixed on the idea of sequels to this movie. I did enjoy it and it was obvious they set it up to do sequels but somehow part of what made it work was the unique "charm" of it. Now that all the characters are established the novelty of their "origin story" is over.
I'm not suggesting a sequel to this movie will automatically suck. But just as importantly I don't think there's any guarantee a sequel to this movie -wouldn't- suck. This can quite literally go either way at this point because there's no obvious direction which way the story should lead. -
Quote:The Devs generally have this quaint design philosophy that "badging is a journey" and that if you miss badges along the way that's just fate at work. As a badger I obviously don't ascribe to that point of view, but likewise I don't think the Devs are intentionally trying to make me miserable because of it either. My disagreement with their design paradigm is my "problem" not theirs. It doesn't make their system a "bad design" just because I don't agree with it.This is all beside the point. Making these badges deliberately missable for no apparent reason is bad design.
One of the great strengths of this system is that even if you like to play in a way that goes against the Devs' intentions (i.e. wanting to collect every badge in the game) the game will still let you do that. In some cases it might not make it easy to accomplish, but it's still possible if you really want it.
Sure it'd be nice if the game allowed us to flashback the safeguard/mayhem missions.
But if it doesn't happen then I'll adapt, find somebody else running them and move on. *shrugs* -
Quote:According to how those badges were supposed to work the earliest anybody could "legitimately" have all 4 of them on one character should have been around September 13th or 14th. If the Devs could somehow fix the bug associated with this and datamine for the people who have all 4 badges -before- September 14th then yeah sure it'd be nice to see them striped from a fairness point of view.Whether or not the devs are going to strip the badges from those who used the respec bug to gain them is unknown, since it's likely that more than a few players were respeccing anyways.
But I suspect the chances of seeing that happen are just about nil. Heck for all we know it might take them a few weeks to even track down the bug associated with this. And by September 14th it will no longer be obvious whether a person got these badges via the exploit or by waiting the proper amount of time.
Basically this is just a repeat of the buginess of the PvP Rep badges. It's sad that the Devs let it happen, but at this point the damage has really already been done. *shrugs*
