    Sands of Mu

I've seen this "debate" about whether or not the Sands of Mu vet power is worthwhile rage for years. I think it's interesting that so many people can have so many different perceptions about one specific power.

Clearly there are times where it's useful and other times where it's basically pointless. Some ATs/Powersets can get good use out of it at different levels for different reasons. I think as a general vet power that's all it can hope to be. It's not ever going to be perfect for everyone all the time. Use it if it's useful to you and don't if it isn't. I just think it's a mistake for people to try to label it as absolutely good or bad in all situations. *shrugs*

I already knew this, not sure why you assume I know nothing about badges but ok.....lol
Well when you make two posts in this very thread implying that you'd think they'd actually raise the Rikti Plasma Turret badge from 5 defeats of Lanaru the Mad in SG mode to 100 (an increase by a factor of 20!) I have to question your complete understanding of the overall badging requirement trends in ths game. Also I was replying specifically to what you said about the CoP SG badge:

Which makes it pretty clear you thought you could still get multiple credit for this badge with each individual SG participant in any given CoP trial.

Considering that you and Snow Globe even disagreed about what the CoP SG badge started out as (10 or 20?) I think there's plenty of room for everyone to be both a little bit right and a little bit wrong about all this. I readily admitted I didn't even remember an original value for that badge because I never considered it a fully functional badge to begin with.

It's obvious you know a lot about badges in this game but just like me it's clear you don't know absoultely everything. *shrugs*

Now admittedly I don't remember if 100 trials already represents an increase to what it might have been pegged at back when it was introduced years ago. But considering the trial itself never really technically worked properly until now I'm easily willing to disregard that history in this case.

That pretty satisfies my stipulation of being "hard pressed" to think of any - it's easy to forget one badge that was never hard to get at 100 or 200.
Silver Bullet is hardly an epic level badge...

And as far as other badges being raised/lowered then restored to their original levels those hardly count do they? Clearly I was making the point of mentioning any badges that have had a NET INCREASE since Day One. At least you came up with one semi-trivial one so consider yourself lucky.

I tend to suspect anyone who's going to majorly "min/max" the whole Incarnate system can and will be able to account for exemplaring regardless.

Obviously if anyone assumes that the Incarnate system will make us gods at any level all by itself they need to rethink that idea. On the other hand (and know there will be people who don't like me reminding them of this) there are already lots of old-time players who have builds that include 30, 40 or even more Purple IOs already. These people may very well become super-gods at level 50 as Incarnates because they are already god-like at most any level below that.

I created a character (Ryver in my sig lines) well over 5 years ago and I always intended her to fly via a jetpack with folding wings similar to what Buzz Lightyear has. I naively assumed back then that the Devs would "eventually" add that kind of costume item to the game but alas as we all know that hasn't happened yet.

After so many years I'm just hoping that'll happen before the servers are shut down...

that's not quite the same as the "more slots" that folks had in mind. With all that said this may changed when the re-intro the ALPHA SLOT (Which I think is the only slot coming in I19).

With that said I don't agree or disagree with them giving us more regular slots.
Just like I said the Incarnate System might not be the "answer" or "solution" we were looking for as far as wanting more regular slots.
But it's very likely going to be what we're going to get for that for better or worse. *shrugs*
  8. The fact that the Japanese will usher in the coming age of robots is not really in question. The only real question I have is whether or not we'll get a few good years of being able to enjoy the Sexbots before the Terminators kill us all.

I was actually questioning Beef_Cake's belief that they would actually INCREASE a badge requirement like this in an age where they've virtually gutted the high requirements of many other badges. I'm actually hard pressed to think of a badge in this game which has -ever- had its requirement raised after going live.

You're right - it's been so long I forgot the villains in Bloody Bay were there to Confuse the heroes not the Longbow. Forgive my "senior moment" but that was probably close to 5 years ago for me. You can't expect me to remember the exact details of every single silly thing I've done for badges in this game.

Anyway I actually experienced BOTH those tedious ways to get Reformed on heroes prior to the RWZ missions: My main badging character Loth got it very early on from Bloody Bay via the Confusion method and my other characters (Ryver and Silandra) got it later from Longbow jail doors in Warburg once I learned that was the easier way. I didn't bother to mention the doors because it wasn't like I was trying to list EVERY single way to get it in my post to begin with. All of that is academic now that we have many trivial ways to get it at this point.

P.S. Despite my feeble memory of past events you still have to admit that a hero destroying 1,000 jail doors or defeating 1,000 Longbow is a weird way to gain a positive sounding badge called "Reformed" regardless. I think a more neutral sounding badge name would have ultimately been better. But while I agree with Vanden in principle I suffer no real delusion that the Devs are going to bother with this so many years later. *shrugs*

Really? It's fairly close to the same basic scale as the $3.99 for 8 emote deal. Technically speaking $7.99 for 16 emotes would be the exact same scale. $7.99 for 20 emotes would make them only cost 40 cents an emote, but is 40 cents an emote really THAT much cheaper than 50 cents an emote?

    This'll be simple to determine:
If this Party Pack ends up being the only emote-only pack this game has it was a failure.
If we ever get another emote-only pack then this Party Pack made enough money for the Devs to be worthwhile to them.
    Time will tell.

Well to be technically fair people have be wanting an Air Guitar emote in these forums for years now. Whether it was cool enough to be stuck in a Party Pack like this is debatable but people have wanted it for years. Just saying.

Just as a rule of thumb I basically never try to buy ANY of the packs for this game in the first few hours of its release. The billing server is always either overloaded or has something wrong with it that prevents orders from going through cleanly. I pretty much always give it 8-12 hours and never have a problem at that point. YMMV.

It might be a lesson for future boosters - we'll see how the sales go.

Personally, I would prefer a mix of emotes, costume change emotes and costume pieces. Temp powers are nice, but hardly essential. Also, the perceived value from the previous boosters makes this look a bit expensive

Undecided if I'll get this or not. Guess I'll need to see it in action.
To me this pack would have been worth it if we got say like 20 emotes for $7.99 or the 8 emotes we are getting for like $3.99.
The way it is now basically didn't quite hit the mark to satisfy me.
  16. I don't think the idea of an emote-only Booster Pack is a bad thing.
I just think charging $7.99 for 8 emotes is a bit overpriced all thing considered.

I imagine they'll still sell a bunch of these at $7.99 regardless.
But I'd be willing to bet if they sold it for only $3.99 they'd ultimately get 3x or 4x the number of sales.
Basically I think they shot themselves in the foot with this - maybe that should be an emote in the next pack.
  17. Like most everyone else here if I had to choose one of these two packs to get I'd go for the Wedding Pack.
It's definitely got more bang-to-the-buck value there.

While the emotes in the Party Pack are cool enough I really think it's overpriced for what you get. At $7.99 you're basically paying a dollar an emote. I honestly think that if they had pegged it at say $3.99 instead they would've gotten 3x or 4x the number of people to buy it thus increasing their profits. *shrugs*

Too? I'd more readily believe that -just- the badge progress bar is broken before I'd suspect they raised the actual requirement for that badge. Many of the SG badge progress bars have been broken in similar ways throughout the history of this game.

Based on what people have been saying in this thread I suspect the Devs accidentally applied a "1-100" scale on that progress bar instead of a "1-5" scale. Looks like the game is simply attempting to display some data with faulty parameters and doing it badly. *shrugs*

With the release of I18, there's at least 2 Hero tip missions (that I know of) where you fight Longbow. That means it's entirely possible to earn the Reformed badge, which implies that you were once a villain, without doing a single villainous thing. This is the sort of thing that annoys me, so in the spirit of D&D, I present a suggestion for a name change for this badge:

    Lawful
Sometimes Longbow oversteps its bounds, but you've been there to keep it on the straight and narrow.

Obviously we'd lose access to that title, but there's plenty of other hero badge titles that imply the same thing it did. And heck, maybe there'll be another badge down the line that can use the old name.
I've always thought "Reformed" was a fairly silly name for that badge, especially back in the day when the only way a hero could get it was to confuse Longbow in Bloody Bay. Doesn't sound like a -reformed- activity to me.

I can easily accept the villain name for the badge (aptly named "Villain"). At least that makes perfect sense. But the title "Reformed" always implied the only way you could have it was to be a villain-turned-hero. And if you were a villain-turned-hero why would you want to be recognized for killing 1,000 Longbow with a positive sounding badge? It seems the last thing a villain-turned-hero would want to be reminded of was killing 1,000 of his/her supposed current buddies.

I think in keeping with the Villain title being a noun the title Reformed should be replaced by something like Myrmidon. It's a relatively neutral word which (apart from its Greek warrior origins) means "A loyal follower, especially one who executes orders without question, protest or pity." To me that sounds like what a hero slaughtering 1,000 Longbow should be called. It's not a positive or negative title, just one that implies you preformed a sad duty of punishing Longbow whether you really wanted to or not.

Anyway wasn't there even a quick scene in the latest Superman movie where they showed him zooming in and stopping a trivial coffee store hold-up and the news announcer saying something like, "And here we see no crime is too small for Superman to handle". If my level 50 wants to stop a bank robbery in Atlas Park the game should let me do that solo (with auto-exemplaring) without having to find someone else with that mission.

But because Incarnate slots are going to affect all powers globally anything slotted into them will improve all powers, even the 47/49 ones. This is why even though I'm not against the idea of getting more regular slots I ultimate don't think A) were going to need them or B) the game would be balanced for them regardless.

People have been wanting more regular slots for our highest level powers for years.
Clearly the Incarnate system is going to be the answer for that.
It might not quite be the "answer" we were looking for, but it's the "answer" the Devs are giving us for that.

Yes it's true that Incarnate slots != regular slots.

But I suspect this change to Fitness is a direct result of the work involved with the plans for the upcoming Incarnate system. It seems very reasonable to assume that the Devs have weighed the impact of what the Incarnate system will do to characters game balance wise and factored that into their overall planning.

My guess is that while more regular slots for our level 47/49 powers would be nice I don't think we're going to be needing them.

Sadly being optimistic only goes so far. If anything the history of this game has proven that no matter how easy it'd be for the Devs to give us this capability they don't seem overly motivated to provide it. Even if it finally happens in the very next update it'll still be well over 6 years too late for many people.

    More hairstyles

I was just making the point that asking for more choices "in general" would be a more realistic suggestion overall.

As a software engineer in real life I know how the Devs would approach this situation. I'm quite sure if it were possible they'd provide us with hundreds of different hairstyles that would make everyone happy. But they are always going to have to make trade offs between what's easiest to produce to meet budgets and deadlines as well as the limitations of their graphics engine.

Could the Devs make improvements in the current styles? Of course they could. Heck, I -wish- they would.
Could the Devs focus on what people would consider more "urban" hairstyles? Again of course they could.

But if the kinds of styles you're talking about are relatively complex or detailed (like the dreads examples you've mentioned) then the chances of them happening become less likely simply because they would require more time and effort to produce. It's not really a question of if the Devs -want- to give us these things. I'm sure they do. It's more a question of if the Devs have the time and resources to spare to provide them. Ultimately it's more realistic to hope that we'll get ANY new styles at this point than to assume that we will get any specific type.

Frankly I wouldn't mind if they produced a new Booster Pack full of new hairstyles like the ones you suggest. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. But it's exactly because your suggestions would take more time that the idea of having to pay extra for them in a Booster Pack may be the only way we'll ever see them.
