I'll always /sign any suggestion to add more emotes to this game.
People have wanted variations of "lying down/wounded/unconscious/dead" emotes pretty much since the beginning.
When the Architect System arrived I looked through all the options it allowed for. Turns out there are several "prone" emotes that you can use when you set up MOBs in your missions. These things already exist in the code but they are currently only available to the NPCs.
While I'd love to have new emotes created for players it seems like it'd be easy enough for the Devs to just allow some of those existing NPC-only emotes be made usable by players outside the Architect System.

Well I don't have any particular favoritism for Katy Perry in particular. I don't own any version of her music, not sure I've seen any of her other music videos and really don't know much about what she's done to become "famous" in the first place. As I said before she probably would've been better off in this Sesame Street appearance dressed a wee bit more conservatively to avoid all this "censorship" silliness. Regardless I still think it was a misguided move to cut this video for reasons I've already given.
Having said all that I wanted to address this idea of whether or not a person's "professional background" disqualifies them from ever appearing on Sesame Street in the first place. Obviously there are people out there who are so controversial that they would never be considered. I intrinsically trust the people who work on Sesame Street to have enough good judgment to keep those people off the list.
But if the people Marcian Tobay listed managed to appear on the show already (the likes of Cheech Marin and Gene Simmons?) I hardly think Perry could be much worse what little I know of her. The idea that a performer who's normally more "adult/mature" oriented could never switch gears and handle an appearance on a show designed for kids is a tad bit narrow-minded all things considered.
I think it's kind of sad to think Perry might actually be mainly famous for "wearing cupcake bras with cherries for nipples" in her videos. If that's her claim to fame (again because I don't really know) then that'd be a little pathetic. But clearly the folks at Sesame Street didn't think she was a "naughty" enough person to preclude her from even showing up to tape this video with Emo to begin with. As was pointed out Perry's outfit here is not really any worse than Tinkerbell's. Was it really provocative enough to be censored, really?
It's too bad Sesame Street supposedly caved to outside pressure to cut this video from their show. Obviously it's their call to run their show the way they see fit. I just think this act of censorship is going to ultimately cause them far more trouble than it was worth in the long run. -
Eh, ballerinas and female gymnasts wear far more 'suggestive' clothing than this. Even the talking heads on the MSN made the point that Katy almost looks like a cartoon character anyway. Very few if any kids are going to "read into" the combination of the song lyrics and her outfit the way adults have anyway.
So yeah the song is silly and the actual setup for the video was basically shortsighted, but worthy of censorship? Hardly.
This is a classic case of making a mountain out of a molehill, regardless of the amount of "cleavage" involved. -
Once again I think it's sort of a weird Catch-22 thing: If the Devs could figure out how to accurately create a "kill zone" for all areas outside of a mission map they (by default) would have also just figured out how to keep bad spawns from happening in the first place. Both of these things would pretty much go hand-in-hand and since we currently don't have one it's easy to see why we don't have the other yet either.

Quote:What's wrong with using the same system as the global friend invite. Works when off line, /ignore to avoid being spammed by it.The idea behind making it a recipe was that it would be an in-game "object" that the Devs would be able to better control as far as avoiding any possible exploits or spamming that could be involved in this. It tends to be easier for Devs to code controls/restrictions on things when they have direct objects to trigger on.Quote:I like this idea, but I wouldn't even make it a recipe. Just a button in the email (like "claim") and click it.
Or make it from the SG window. A box for a global name and click "New Invite Email".
I'm not exactly married to the "recipe" idea, but it did seem like a viable vehicle to make a new feature like this work and be as flexible as possible. -
Quote:Well just because western society lived through "Victorian sensibilities" a hundred years ago doesn't mean we won't be there again a hundred years from now. Fashion has funny way of repeating itself sooner or later.I swear that society is in a state of regression. Pretty soon we'll start to think that women wearing anything less than a full-length dress are being obscene. OMG, I can see her ankles!

Quote:Well I'll be first to say she might have made a better choice going with a slightly more conservative outfit given the venue. But beyond her relative lack of fashion sense I think Sesame Street would have been far better served letting it go on the air, considering it a "lesson learned" for future guest appearances and let everyone quickly forget about it. By making a "big deal" out of it they gave this far more significance than it truly deserved. *shrugs*What was the context of the outfit?
If it was someone else without Ms. Perry's lyric choices, dress style, and music video attire I'd be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, but I wouldn't expect something like this on Sesame Street. That "my kids" could see cleavage elsewhere doesn't mean Sesame Street is an appropriate place for it. It's not so much jumping to conclusions as it is being influenced by the factors Ms. Perry has cultivated.
I'm judging based on the picture, not the video; streaming media is disabled at my work. -
Nice one...

Of course we all realize if there wasn't a porn based on a scenario like this there's bound to be one now.Quote:Just wait for the DVD: "Sesame Street: Uncensored!"
You will also find out why Bird is nicknamed "Big."

LOL!

Anyway I tend to think it was pretty silly for Sesame Street to censor this.
First of all everyone's talking about it now which has given this video and Katy Perry herself far more publicity than it ever deserved. If Sesame Street had just let this go virtually no one would've known or cared about it. I probably would've never heard about it...
Besides most of the kids who would be watching this are too young to care about vague 'mature' visual references anyway. And the few other kids who'd watch this and tell their parents they got "funny tingles" in their pants over this would need to have a few things about life explained to them anyway. If something like this actually somehow lead a young child of mine to ask questions then I'd consider it a perfect learning opportunity.
Ultimately Sesame Street must have gotten scared that a few uptight parents were going to pitch a fit over the vague possibility they'd have to actually talk to their kids about "the birds and the bees" based on this. That's pretty sad all things considered. *sigh* -
Quote:Now that we have the means to email things like recipes and enhancements to other characters maybe the Devs ought to create a new kind of "recipe" (like the respec recipe) that'd be called an Invite recipe. This recipe would be trivial/free to make but it'd be an object that could be controlled so that it couldn't be spammed. The Devs could regulate it so that a character can only make/send one(?) of these a day. Once you've made it you can send it attached to a global email just like any other recipe. If the recipient "claims" it then they'd instantly become a member of the SG.Still, I do agree on somehow doing offline SG invites. Problem is, some people would abuse this heavily by spamming as many people as possible with it... which makes the shelved City Vault idea probably a good idea.
There are probably complications to this I'm not thinking of, but off hand this seems pretty workable to me.

I just street-sweep for level 20+ bosses. I have hunted for Tips this way at least 20 times now and it has literally never taken me more than about 5 minutes from the time I start hunting to the time I have a Tip. As always YMMV.

Mmmkay...
I suppose random number generation will become even that much more "random-er".

If the /stuck command is "smart enough" to know where we are in relation to the map then you'd think they could apply that to the MOBs. Maybe after the mission spawns all the MOBs they could run a /stuck on themselves just to make sure.
Seems a simple enough idea but since it does seem pretty simple maybe the Devs have experimented with something like this already and it didn't work well. There could be a number of "under the hood" reasons why this might not work as straightforward as it seems because we don't exactly know all the reasons why MOBs appear outside the confines of the map to begin with. *shrugs* -
If we can't rely on the game knowing for sure if a spawn is inside or outside of the map maybe the Devs could provide a command line command that would "TP Foe" one critter to a player as long as that critter is the only one left alive in the mission. This would solve the vast majority of the problems people ever seem to have with MOBs either stuck in a wall or outside the map.
I realize there might be ways to exploit this command (like being able to TP a big mission-ending boss even if he's not technically stuck somewhere) but if it can only work as long as there's only one enemy left it doesn't really matter exactly where you fight that one last guy does it?
Maybe they could make this an automatic thing that would happen after say a 5 minute timer. If there's only one enemy left alive on a "kill all" map after 5 minutes that guy is auto-TPed to your location regardless of where he is. Seems a bit convoluted but doable I guess.

Quote:Just stick a door in the ground in both Wentworths and the BM to an underground vault with Surpression and a table in it, that way it is feasible and acts as an opt in for those who dislike powers running when they are shopping.Yeah something like this is probably the best compromise for this issue. It'd be a relatively simple solution from the Devs' point of view as well - at least easier than trying to figure out how to do suppression zones in outdoor areas and the like.Quote:That would be fine with me. I like the idea of giving both groups of players a choice in where they want to shop.
The only real question is if the Devs would consider this a big enough QoL improvement to make it worth their while. Who knows... *shrugs* -
Quote:Actually with the way software evolves to add new things I would have expected these new alignment merits to behave as much like the previous types of merits as possible and NOT be deletable by the player as a default.I think the ability to delete them is probably an unintended side-effect of going Vigilante deleting them.
Reward Merits and Vanguard Merits can't be deleted to my knowledge, and there is nothing that auto-deletes them, but Hero and Villain merits get deleted when you are no longer a Hero or Villain, so since they clearly CAN be deleted it makes sense that you'd be able to do so manually.
Sounds like something that was overlooked because no one thought to try and delete them in the beta. Stands to reason that if no one does it, you wouldn't know it can be done.
You have to remember the Devs had to write new code to handle the "auto-delete upon alignment switch" feature. So they had to do extra work to make that happen. By the same logic it seems they ALSO had to do extra work to make these merits manually deletable by the player. Why did they apparently do extra work to make these new kinds of merits manually deletable when as far as we know other previous types of merits don't share that quality?
Basically is seems like being able to manually delete them is an option that most players would NOT want to have.
If anything it only seems to allow for mistakes like the OP suffered. -
Unfortunately in this case when the Devs say it's "working as intended" they probably mean it's "working as we programmed it". I'm sure they never really "intended" to have emotes be limited like that but given the circumstance they probably had no real choice in the matter. Like Lemur Lad said they likely just ran up against the limitations of their animation system and the time they had to work with it.

I've gotten around 20 purple drops total since they were first introduced to the game.
I've bought many others, but getting 20 of my own is probably not too bad all things considered.

Quote:The issue comes up when you log in after using the character transfer service when a name is already taken by another character. At that point you have to change your character name.
Admittedly it should check before you logged into the game, but it doesn't.Quote:As someone who used the free transfers to rename characters, it does check before you log into the game, and the green "Rename Character" button is highlighted instead of the option of buying a rename token. You don't have to log on to rename.
I don't see where disabling the ability to log on with an active rename token would cause a problem for the player (the UI programmer may want to strangle someone, but that depends on how it's currently written), and it would prevent situations like the OP.As a software engineer in real life I'll be the first to tell you that allowing a user to shoot themselves in the foot via a scenario like this is not really acceptable, especially when it appears that the path that leads to this trap (forcing a rename when logging in ANY character while possessing an active rename token) does not seem to be required for any purpose. If as Siolfir says the game can detect when you have to rename a server transfered character BEFORE you log that character in then the game could easily be designed to PREVENT you from logging in that character until you perform a manual rename using the "green Rename Character button" method.Quote:I've not done many character transfers so I'm not really all that well versed on the subject. However there are warnings, and the original poster got what he paid for, exactly as the terms of the warnings said.
Basically I can't think of any renaming scenario that would require TWO different methods to rename a character, especially when one of those two methods forces a rename beyond the control of the player. I believe all renaming scenarios can be accomplished with just the player-safe "green Rename Character button" method.
Sure one can argue that the Devs did provide a written warning about this and that was indeed nice of them to do. But if all renames can be accomplished via the "green Rename Character button" method then there's no need to force renames upon logging in at all. Removing the "gotcha" completely from the game would be a far more effective safeguard for the player than merely hoping they read and heed a warning about it. -
I understand those merits are deleted automatically by the game when you switch alignments. But for the life of me I can't really see a purpose for why a player would ever want to manually delete them, regardless of their intrinsic value. I never bothered to look into the "delete-ability" of the various types of merits but I'm actually surprised the game allows players to manually delete any of them in the first place. *shrugs*

When you think about it there's not too much "female diversity" in most of the enemy groups of this game. I think part of the reason Castle added the new "Girlfriend From Hell" Hellion boss type in Issue 18 was to try to fix that lack of representation a bit.
The Devs addressed this male/female concern many years ago. IIRC it was a compromise between making more female models for existing groups or making a larger number of different groups. Supposedly instead of spending their limited time making lots of female models they decided to make most enemies generically male so they could have more time to make a larger number of different factions for us to face. I guess they succeeded because we do have lots of different types of enemies to fight, even if 95% of them are male.
Hopefully, like the "Girlfriend From Hell" example, the Devs will continue to add new female enemies to face in the future. Maybe'll we'll even get a female Lost critter to fight.

Quote:It's exactly because of reactions like yours that if the Devs of this game ever decide to experiment with "charge ups" they should only do it with new powersets designed for it. That way if you want to try it you use those powersets, if you don't you don't.That mechanic was one of the things I absolutely despised in CO. And as far as "KB vs KD?" So, if I'm playing my Peacebringer or Energy blaster, where almost every attack does KB, where I *WANT* every attack to do KB, I'd have to "charge it up?"
Hell no. Keep that crap out of this game. -
Quote:Maybe it's not just a Dev trick to get us to accidentally re-buy Booster Packs.Them's the breaks. You're not alone in your request, mind you. Just that, currently, if you can't remember what you own you'll have to go and look.

Maybe they figure it'll motivate us to buy one of everything so we don't HAVE to know which ones we don't have.

Quote:LOL! Well again like I said earlier I guess you can learn something new every day.The Vet pets don't heal. Your friend meant that if you use a heal on one of those pets, it grants you extremely large credit toward the healing badge. Even though they only have 10hp, you can heal them for thousands, and it all counts.
If you get a small group of people together with their pets and start running a healing aura, you can get the badges much faster than the standard Gladiator Heal farm.
I /bugged it a long time ago. As far as I know, it has not been fixed yet.
Edit:
I just re-tested and it still works. Healing a pet shows about 4x the healing above it's head, and it all counts toward the badge.
I've noticed whenever I've healed my Vet Pets that the green numbers over their heads always seemed pretty large but I never realized any of that counted for heal badges. Go figure. I doubt I would've gotten much use out of this knowledge since I've had my Empath badges for a long time but I guess if you still need to get healing badges then you can have fun with this.
I frankly never understood why they never nerfed Gladiator healing but maybe the same kind of problem that keeps them from nerfing that keeps them from nerfing Vet Pet healing too. Whatever works (or doesn't work) I guess. -
Quote:You keep any badge you get via side-switching. Many of your badges will switch names to reflect the villain names, but none of them should disappear. Enjoy.I have switched my brute to hero and got 5-6 extra accolades (badges, powers stayed the same).
What will happen when I get back to villain? Will I keep that badges or will they disappear?
Just interested, because I am going to work on that accolades anyway.
