For some reason the Devs have chosen to allow various items be "male only" or female only" even when there's absolutely no reason for the given item to be exclusive to one gender or the other.

This "high collared" cape thing you're talking about might be a bug, but it's also possible they didn't even get around to making female sized versions of those capes. I wouldn't strictly call it WAI because it sucks that some items were not implemented, but it might not be appropriate to call it a "bug" either if those items never existed in the first place.

    Why?
It's a new way for Primal characters to earn the Technophobe badge. Another way is to farm the first mission of blueside "The Instant Army" arc, but I19 will also make it pretty trivial since Primals will gain access to Praetoria directly.

  4. One would think NCsoft could probably make a good deal of money if they sold these things directly instead of letting people generate an eBay market for them. But for whatever reason they still want to keep these things "exclusive" to events, conventions and contest prizes.

I imagine they had some basic plans/ideas that when/if the Hobbit got made that they'd try to use New Zealand again for filming. But I guess if the union disputes got bad enough the government could threaten to pull their permits.

As sleestack implied I'll bet they'll work out some deal to make everyone happy. I'm betting the union was just trying to pitch a fit in order to get as much money from this production as possible.

Let me clarify what I meant: I wasn't saying they'd use OBVIOUS CGI like 300 or Sin City.

What I was talking about is if they had to put something like a mountain in the background to make where they're filming look a little more like the New Zealand outdoor scenes in the LotR movies it would relatively easy and convincing to do. This Hobbit movie is likely going to have a multi-hundred million dollar budget so I'm pretty sure they're going to be able to use the best CGI technology available. At any rate the chances that this movie would "look" bad no matter what they do is almost impossible.
  7. Besides I imagine much of any kind of "background" or "scenery" could be CGI'd if needed.
Still it'd be nice to know they were actually in New Zealand just to provide some kind of 'continuity' to the other LotR movies.

I have a few capes on a few costumes with mixed travel powers among them. About the only "rule" I have with using a cape is when I think it looks good with the rest of the costume I came up with.

That's good news for those villain players out there who were crying about having to become a rogue for a few minutes in order to run a KHTF to get that hat.
  11. Yeah because gods forbid there be any REWARD for getting a character leveled up to 41 or higher.

Vet's should get special rewards but nothing that's better as a boost pack or TF reward, things like the targeting pet are great, nice little bonus that isn't a costume piece or so on. I think this XP thing is sort of useful but for a 78th month account? What a rip off, the team assemble power is one of the most widely used powers I've seen, something that helps the player but isn't useless. Maybe they could add something closer to the existing vet powers instead of something boring and pretty much useless to a level 50.
You're all over the map with this aren't you? You seem to have a thing against "old timers" but you want top end vet awards to be super-awesome yet not as good as booster pack items. Pick a side.

Anyway I don't know about anyone else but I think I can call myself an "old timer" because I've had a continuously active account since CoH Headstart on April, 25 2004 and I have been regularly playing ever since. I've never taken "time off" for ED or anything else.

And as far as where I stand on Vet Awards I'm actually one of those weird people who think they should have come to an end at 60 months precisely because the whining you're doing right here. People who whine about Vet power X, Y or Z being a "rip-off" because it's not good enough to be a top end Vet award is exactly what I was talking about. The Devs have painted themselves into a corner trying to come up with new things that aren't going to significantly piss off either newer players or older ones and, as I predicted, it's clearly become harder and harder to do that.

I've always thought linking a gladiator to an anniversary badge (or any combination of anniversary badges) was a bad idea, even if it was supposed to be a "sneak peek" at the time. We've had a number of badges over the years which have had their requirements changed to reflect the changing nature of the game. The most notable one lately was the Power Liberator / Master Thief badge.

With that said I believe the fairest way to deal with the 5th column Gladiator is to reassign it as some kind of "defeat" badge as Matt_King suggested. With the 5th Column now re-established as a permanent group in the game there's no longer any reason to treat its associated gladiator as exclusively as it is now.

Oh, and good to know what I'll be facing when I move to AU in another 4 weeks.
Yeah misleading posts don't really help. I pay more attention to the server status page because it's linked to the servers directly. That way I don't rely on whether a person posting "official" announcements has the right information or not. *shrugs*

For what it's worth I can sympathize with you on this.
I live in the United States but often travel to places like Japan and Singapore for business.
I've actually been hit by the "primetime maintenance" deal so I can feel your pain with that.

The only day we can expect (with reasonable certainty) to have downtimes is on Thursdays.
It's also been a tradition in this game for years to release new patches/issues on Tuesdays.

So what does this mean for us? It means that all things being equal we'll always get downtimes on Thursdays and we'll OCCASIOANLY get downtimes on Tuesdays. The only reason it may seem like Tuesdays have become more common lately is because we're only a couple of months past a major retail expansion to this game (Going Rogue). We've been getting many patches lately to account for the major changes involved with that.

Sorry that impacts your "primetime" but there are justifiable reasons for it. Once I19 hits we'll probably see a number of months in the future of "one time a week" downtimes until I20 comes out.
  17. At the very least this Vet power offers something that we can't quite get any other way. True it's very closely related to what we get with the Day Job system, but it's still technically unique. That's what I think Vet awards should be: things that you cannot get any other way but to be a Vet.

At any rate it's better than what we got with the 45th and 69th Vet awards. Only getting a respec token as a Vet award always seemed very crummy to me because there's really nothing "Vet-like" about it at all. There are after all other ways to get a respec token.

As I mentioned in another thread we can pretty much expect these kinds of "almost pointless" Vet awards from now on. Basically there's no way we'll ever get anything "super cool" again because the newer people would pitch a fit and there's no way we'll get a totally useless one because us old timers would cry too much about it. That more or less means Vet awards of the future will always be stuck in the middle of being borderline meh. Oh well. *shrugs*
  18. Good Question. I only tested enough to get a few Halloween Tips in PI and I think they all led to missions that were in PI. Would seem like they'd just be linked to whichever zone you got the Tip in but the whole villain/hero/hazard zone thing might make Halloween Tip-ing in RWZ weird somehow.

I'd rather have it all. But I know you'll think I'm messing with you if I said that.

Ultimately we are going to get the things the DEVS want to give us regardless if we like it or not. *shrugs*

Kryptonite wouldn't work because people would just pick an AE fa...er mission and avoid their weaknesses. There would have to be enough gain to make it worth it to people and all we would get later on is whiny threads about how people avoid their weakness and use whatever bonus they get to mow stuff down faster.
Why would any of this have to happen if picking weaknesses would be purely OPTIONAL in the first place?

Heck, there's incentive not to use it as it makes the game harder for no reward.

I'd rather the devs work on something we all enjoy rather than just a small benefit to 3-5% of the population, thank you very much.
I'm not dodging any "question" here.
I've all but agreed with you that not everyone would use this feature.

But by the same token trying to do your best to imply that a QoL improvement like this would be so horrible to consider that it's down-right super-yucky or some such is almost childish. I get that there are people who don't like this idea. But I'll once again point out there have been all sorts of things added to this game that not everyone liked.

Let's just say if something like this ever does actually happen I wouldn't be too upset by it.

I agree. I'd also like the ability to attach decorations to my racks. The racks I have in this game are so smooth and featureless. I think they'd look much more appealing with little button-like bumps on them. They would definitely be more eye-catching that way.

    What?

How many people use every single aspect of this game to begin with? The implication that EVERYBODY has to like an idea before the Devs give it to us is a flawed nonsensical argument at the very least.

The Devs have added nearless countless QoL improvements over the years that I'm sure a percentage of the playerbase would consider "minimal interest" or "not worth the effort". I'm just glad the Devs don't always listen to -that- side of the issue in question.
  25. The six Day Job badges that heroes are now able to get redside are listed here in Paragonwiki.

I haven't heard or seen any problems with them working on heroes-turned-villain but there could be some issue with whether you are just a vigilante or a full villain/rogue. There might be some problem with that. You can get badge credit as a vigilante but you might have to go full villain/rogue to have the badge trigger. Not sure really because all my hero badgers have gone full villain/rogue. *shrugs*

    Good luck regardless.
