Given the lack of splash GR seemed to make overall in the gaming community (the recent Ugly Sister news has garnered a lot more headlines than the release of GR did) I wouldn't be surprised to see it announced at some point.
As I said there's always a chance this game will become a F2P game at some point.
    I just don't see it as a near-term possibility.

Perhaps after we see what impact other "related' MMOs have on this game we'll be able to better judge it.
Regardless I'd be amazed to see it happen here any sooner than within a year or so.

    Time will tell of course...

    Cry Doom much?

CoH has been a solid game for approaching 7 years now. While there may be a chance it'll go F2P sometime in the future that's not something that'll likely happen anytime soon. That's the kind of thing games do when they are close to dying. That "other" game has been close to dying almost as soon as it launched.

Sure it's sad when a game lays off people and it is a matter of concern. But people like BAB have been at this game for many years. For all we know he accepted the layoff willingly as a means to move on to other projects. Let's just say it's far too early to be assuming this game is dying any day now.

As I implied earlier in this thread your comments about "sacrificing speed of movement" and "man hands" are valid criticisms of this robot now. But as time goes on they'll solve the various miniaturization problems that'll allow them to produce robot bodies that move more realistically and are sized more realistically.

At this point it's just a matter of how long it'll take to get there.

Anyway I've seen several examples of this type of thing where people think they see modern things in old movies/pictures. It's kind of like a different version of the "UFO phenomena" where people just mistake what they see for something else.

Still it is fun to think things like this might be real...

    Vandal Badge

It's probably on some "To Do" list somewhere just like the Fire badges were. But my guess is that this is such a low priority thing that I wouldn't hold my breath on it. It's one of those things that could easily happen either "any time" or "never" with equal certainty. *shrugs*

Ironically you could probably "simulate" it using your own mods to the HERO System or some such.
    Well that kinda bites.

I never played the hero system before, but If i was going to re-create it with any game system, I would go with Aberrant RPG from While-wolf ( the D10 version, not the D20 PoS )
    Necropost much?

I only mentioned the HERO System (17 months ago I might add!?!) because it's the current foundation of the Champions game which is arguably one of most well respected superhero RPGs ever made. Ironically the original creators of City of Heroes cite Champions as one of their main inspriations for creating this MMO.

But obviously you can make whatever you want using whatever rules set you want as a basis for it. Have fun.

I've never strictly been against the idea of "remakes" of classics like this because, as you say, you can always keep the original version of something and watch it as much as you want.

I think what rubs most people the wrong way about it is when the people involved with the new version try to imply (or flat-out claim) that theirs is vastly superior to the original and do everything in their power to throw the original version under the bus in favor of their new product. No one's ever content to say something like "we think the old one is great and in no way is ours better or worse than what came before". No one wants to accept that the two versions could stand equally - everyone wants to take sides and try to trash the one they don't like.

I think what made Lucas somewhat unique in this regard was that he had the privilege to trash is OWN former work in favor of newer versions he got to make years later. Most of the time a "remake" is done by other people, not the original creator.

It might all be childish, but I think it's also practically unavoidable to react to things like this.

It's seriously the kind of thing that could very likely be fixed in 10 seconds or less. But because it's also probably Item #378 on their prioritized "To Do" list there's a realistic chance we won't see it fixed for several patches. Since it's not a "game-braking" bug it'll get pushed back on the queue no matter how trivial it is. That's the way these things work.

    I 19

It'll be either the 9th or the 16th of November. The 2nd is unlikely given the ending of the Halloween Event and the prep for the Rikti Invasion Event the weekend of the 6th. And the 23th is unlikely because I doubt the Devs would want to risk problems with the Issue just before Thanksgiving.

This is true. And when you dig into that situation a bit more you'll realize the Devs didn't even give those 3 badges their own -unique- artwork. The badge artwork those badges finally got were "leftover" from other badges that never got implemented. So basically it took years for the Devs to bother assigning those 3 badges some generic artwork that was lingering in the code for all those years.

The only hope we have for the Power Hungry badge is that we know the unique artwork for it already exists in the game. It's simply the red version of the other Malleus Mundi badges. It should be (when the Devs get around to it) a relatively trivial matter of linking the artwork pathname to the badge.

While it's certainly possible (nay probable) Lucas might try to exercise his stubborn control over Star Wars past his death with cleverly constructed wills and/or contracts I think it's pretty obvious that any attempts on his part to prevent the franchise from continuing on as a money-making juggernaut will be doggedly rejected and/or overturned eventually. There's simply too much money at stake to let a literal "dead man" (no matter how well respected) call the shots in perpetuity.

Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that Pinewood Studios was involved.

I remember some weirdness with the costume temp power drops a few years ago that may still be causing some lingering confusion here.

As I recall you could earn those costume badges at unexpected times because the game would still count the unreported "duplicate drops" for the badges without being obvious about it. For example the first time you earn the PPD Hardsuit costume power you'll get the power and get a message about it. But later on you may actually get that same drop again as far as badge credit goes but you'll never see another message about it because you already have the power. Basically the game lets you get credit for duplicate drops but you'll never know exactly how many duplicates you get or when you got them.

So if there's now a bug preventing people from getting the power on a first drop maybe the game otherwise thinks it's a valid "first drop" and is allowing for badge credit to continue without knowing the first drop was bugged. *shrugs*

I'm not against brainstorming new ideas for Vet Awards. But I've always favored the idea that anything the Devs use for a Vet Award ought to be something that can't really be obtainable any other way than via a Vet Award. For instance I don't even really support getting respec tokens as Vet Awards because there are other non-Vet ways to gain those.

While I agree it can be difficult to get access to the temp costume powers (in fact most people can only get them during the Halloween Events) they are still obtainable -without- a Vet Award. They aren't really unique enough to be good Vet Awards.

Via your suggestion I'd probably end up with many costume powers automatically. Despite that I'm still not in favor of it because there's ultimately nothing "Vet-like" about making them Vet Awards.
  18. The only comment I have is that (like Forbin_Project implied) this kind of thing has been suggested for at least 5 years now. There seems to be a lot of positives going for the idea and I'd like to see it happen, but I'm not getting my hopes up for it anytime soon. *shrugs*

I enjoyed Babylon 5 quite a bit, but of course JMS did have complete control over that setting. Just because an author can create something cool based on his own original work doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be the best guy to handle a pre-established character. The urge to "make it his own" can easily be too great to be appropriate.

The 5% you're worried about already know the "positions" you're talking about, or at least have a pretty good idea about them. There aren't -that- many combinations to cover in this game. I really wouldn't worry about ANYTHING leaked in the forums about it. *shrugs*

Yep things change in the markets all the time REGARDLESS of what a few people who think they are being "clever" about it do there.

That was my point: No matter what a few people do to try to manipulate or "work" the market it's all going to balance out to the values they were going to balance out to anyway. I earn around 400-500 million INF a week on the markets with about 15 minutes a day worth of effort. I'm sure there are people who do much better than that but for my purposes it's more than sufficient. But even if I were precisely detail exactly what I do to to make that INF here in the forums it wouldn't change my ability to keep doing it. Not enough people read or post in these forums to make that kind of difference either way.

So ultimately people trying to have "fun" with other marketeers here is wasting their effort all things considered.

Not that it matters. The real PVP these days is on the SG Top 100 lists.
It's funny how often people forget that maybe, at best, only about 5-10% of the playerbase even bothers to read these forums much less post here. I suspect all you "market jockeys" could give away all of your devious little strategies and secrets about how you make INF here and nothing would be ruined or changed in the game.
  24. Yeah I reported it as a bug last week. It's probably something that would take about 10 seconds to fix in the code but strangely enough (as Silver Gale implied) these kinds of badge bugs seem to take many weeks (or even months) before they are finally worked into some future patch. It's definitely going to be considered a very low priority thing. I'm sure it'll be corrected, just don't expect it to be as quick as one would think it ought to be. *shrugs*

    Pets Request

This doesn't sound too bad assuming the "ally" you're targeting through is another human player on your team. But it almost sounds like this might be something that would allow a single player to indirectly bot with pets. The ally (which could be a second character being run by the Mastermind) would effectively gain the benefit of having an army of pets to help him while the actual Mastermind could safely door-camp.

I suspect if there's even a possibility that this feature could be used this way the Devs would never be interested in allowing it. Whether or not it'd be hard to code this functionality is hardly the "problem" with this. *shrugs*
