Quote:I guess I haven't really paid that much attention to the build-up for this new TRON movie. The best thing about it? CGI Jeff no longer lives in Uncanny Valley. He looks great, now.
Second best thing? Friggin' lightjets. Imax 3D, day one, no questions.
Was there an earlier trailer that had some bad CGI for Jeff Bridges in this movie that's been improved at some point? -
Quote:Sorry to be picky but I think you want your pseudo-BASIC to go more like this:10 Print "AMAZING!"
20 Count=1
30 Count +1
40 at Count=10 go to 60
50 Go to 10
60 Print "...end of line"
RUN
AMAZING!
AMAZING!

...end of line
10 Count=0
20 Print "AMAZING!"
30 Count+1
40 at Count=10 goto 60
50 goto 20
60 Print "...end of line"
RUN
The way you had it is the classic example of an infinite loop. Your "Count" variable would keep getting reinitialized back to 1 forever.
I don't usually correct people for grammar/spelling mistakes in these forums, but since I've been a software engineer for almost 20 years it was too hard to resist this.

Quote:I think it stems from this quaint idea the Devs still cling to that individual characters should have an individual "journey" through the content and that it should NOT be our goal to have a single character experience everything. Why do the missions outlevel at all?
Praetorian factions are pretty much unique in that the enemies involved go from 1-20, so outlevelling Nova at 10 and Imperial at 15 makes no real sense to me.
Now I understand why they keep that view of things because they think it's the main reason why people like to play alts. That could be the case for some people, but in reality all that policy really does is tend to frustrate the "completists" among us who's only real motivation to keep playing is precisely the goal of trying to experience all content on one character. It's the classic disconnect between the game we want to play and the game the Devs -want- us to play.
I doubt the Devs will ever directly pander to your idea of making things generally "un-outlevelable". But thankfully they finally gave us the "no XP" toggle that will allow us to regulate our ability to play however we want, even if the way we want to play doesn't make the Devs happy.
-
At level 14 you've already passed your chance to do everything on your Stalker.

There are guides on this in the Player Guides section but basically you have to shut off XP at "main" contact cutoffs at level 10 and 15 at the very least. The Guides have more precise info for all that. -
Quote:I played my main Fire/Rad for about 2 years with CC then dropped it.A major part of the question of whether to take Choking Cloud is the heavy End cost. With the new Incarnate slots around the corner it's a new game, at least for level 50s. You can slot your Alpha slot with 33% End reduction (and eventually 45%), which makes it much easier to afford to take the power.
I've since played the last 4 years or so without it.
Let's just say I don't really miss it.
Obviously CC can be very useful if you choose to play/maneuver in a manner that favors its strengths. Ultimately I found the need to have to camp next to MOBs in order to "random-mez" them was far too slow and inefficient, especially if you play on fast moving teams to any degree. What's the point in being able to keep things mezzed for multiple ticks of CC when most critters you face are dead within a couple of ticks? YMMV of course.
Now even though I do have years of experience using the power I will readily admit that I stopped using CC back in a time when the only option you had to "super-slot" it was by using HOs. Basically I gave up on it long before IOs even hit the scene. I'm willing to accept the idea that with proper IO slotting (and the upcoming I19 changes) that CC can be made into a very good power. Regardless of how cool CC can now be made I still doubt I'll ever use it again. My playstyle simply tends to be far more mobile and dynamic than CC will allow for. *shrugs* -
I was actually thinking of redoing a Blaster in I19 with like 2 or 3 identical costumes that only differed from each other by having different combinations of the new/old animations. The basic idea was that I could manually switch costumes from time to time to "simulate" your idea of random animations.
I'll sign this idea because it would be cool if you could set it to randomly choose different animations automatically. It would add a touch of realism to our motions. -
Quote:Actually the implication that it'll be relatively hard to do is appealing to me. I'm not assuming I'm going to have all the "incarnate toys" the day I19 goes live. But if it introduces a new dynamic that'll keep me interested in playing for an extended period of time it'll be a goal worth the effort. That actually really, really worries me. Like to craft a basic slottable Alpha enhancement, do I now have to run a STF or a CoP for this one part? Like, say... a Common Spiritual Boost. Do I need a Penumbra of Rularuu and Essence of the Incarnate to make that, which means I've got to beat a Cathedral of Pain run and a STF? Because if that's the case... well, I guess either I won't be getting any of the Incarnate enhancements ever or it'll be exclusive to the Billionaire's Club. You know, the people that can afford to pay for Gladiator's Armor: +3% Def out of pocket.
How does this all work?
Besides who wants to be a god in one day anyway.
-
Well I could say a lot about this, but I'll just comment on one little bit of it here:
"Penumbra of Rularuu from the Cathedral of Pain"
If nothing else this'll at least "encourage" people to keep doing the CoP Trial.

It's hard to say without having access to your badge info screen. I didn't see anything obvious in your Badge-Hunter info. It might be something like you have one of the "temporary" Katie TF badges on your character that's not being accepted by Badge-Hunter. You might just have to break down and manually count the number of badges you have in each section to narrow down the culprit.
Good Luck. -
Quote:That's the exact reason why the Hero/Villain alignment powers are basically better than the Rogue/Vigilante ones. The Devs wanted there to be an advantage for staying true to one side that made up for not being able to freely travel back and forth. That sucks. I really want Frenzy on my Dominator instead of the lame other powers you get, but I'd like him to be able to visit Paragon from time to time too.

I recently rewatched TRON. It had probably been 15 or 20 years since the last time I watched it. It's amazing to see how relatively primitive the "State of the Art" movie CGI was in 1982.

The basic story behind TRON was still fairly solid. Simple, but well done. As long as this new movie also has a reasonably handled story I suspect it'll do well. Obviously the CGI is top notch for 2010. People have been quibbling about the effects used to make a young version of Flynn look cheesy or whatever but I really don't think it was handled that badly from the trailers I've seen.
All in all TRON Legacy looks like it'll be good enough to satisfy most people. -
Quote:Well hopefully the "good/evil switch" on their backs will start off on the "good" setting. In Japan the sexbots *ARE* the killer robots. (Warning: what has been seen cannot be unseen.)
-
The 7 seconds of that episode (on this clip from timemark 1:01 to 1:08) is probably one of the funniest scenes of that entire series.
-
They might be bugged now but they weren't back when I got them. *shrugs*
I'd played my badge collector characters for a couple of years before I decided to "actively" work on these particular gladiator badges and I remember having to spend a good deal of time specifically hunting them regardless. Turns out it would seem most people don't "naturally" defeat as many Ancestor Spirits or field generators as you'd think.
Good luck to you on these... -
Quote:IIRC the leak was fairly random in that only males managed to get the Firefly aura. Those who did pick it up during the short window when it was made available were allowed to keep it on.
I really wanted (and am now seriously looking forward to) using the Firefly aura with several female characters.
-
The Snow and Firefly auras were "accidentally leaked" and were quickly pulled back.
They will both be in I19 so they'll be back soon enough.

Quote:With the way things are going we could very well be wiped out by Japanese-based killer robots.Japan is so going to get the world killed.Quote:Yeah but the Japanese take the "manufactured" part of that description a little too seriously.
I'm just hoping we'll have a few years with the Japanese-based sexbots before that happens.

Quote:I've only seen the first two TV episodes (haven't read the comic) but if I had to guess I imagine what we'll see in the future of the TV show is Rick adopting a sort of cold, practical "kill or be killed" mentality which includes Walkers or live people.Well, early Rick is a bit of an idealist. At the point he's at currently in the comics (SPOILER ALERT, by the way) he has very little problem with killing people that he feels are hazardous to his, Carl's or the group in general's survival. In fact, if you're up on the series currently, he's proven over the last few issues that he's extremely quick and remorseless about taking the lives of troublemakers. It almost seems to be his first option at this point.
In fact, and it's been quite a while since I read the beginning of the series, I don't recall it even taking Rick very long to get to the point where he'd kill human beings pretty callously if he thought they were a threat. I recall him killing someone during a skirmish at the prison because he thought they'd be a problem.
So, yeah, if the TV series is going to follow his moral arc pretty closely, it won't be long before Rick is routinely handling problems by means of execution. If Rick was ever really trying to take a moral high road where murder is concerned, he didn't last on that road very long.
As a sheriff's deputy before the zombie thing happened I have to think he at least started from the point that he had never killed an innocent person and morally never thought about killing anyone as a first option. My guess is that when he shot that "half-body" zombie girl in the first episode that was the first person he ever "killed" that he thought was an innocent non-criminal. That was the beginning of a new reality for him that definitely shifted him away from any kind of "idealism" he might have had before the zombies.
But by the same token I don't think he's going to be the type of person who's ever going to be able to kill anyone without feeling remorse for it eventually. I think he's shifted into "soldier mode" which means he'll be able to quickly decide if he needs to kill for his own survival, but I get the feeling there will be moments (at least in the TV show) where they'll show him thinking about what he's done and being upset by it. I just don't see him becoming an inhuman "uber-terminator" killing at will without consequences no matter how bad things get.
So no I don't think Rick's an "idealist" about life and death, but I do think he'll retain at least some level of humanity/empathy for people who deserve it so that we can continue to sympathize with him as a character. -
Quote:If you want to play the newest versions of some of these games then yes, minis are becoming more important than they used to be. But the interesting fact about rulebooks for games is that they actually last for quite a few years if you treat them well. Nothing is forcing you to play the latest card/mini hybrid games if you don't want to.The concept of D&D role-playing is dead. Get used to miniatures.
If my friends and I want to roleplay we'll roleplay with a system that's geared for it. If one of us wants to play the latest "Magic the Gathering with minis" game WotC wants to foist upon us we'll first just laugh at that person, then play a real roleplaying game.

Quote:I think the suggestion to have "personal bases/apartments" is probably one of the all-time top ten suggestions this game has had for years. There are probably more people who want this just in general than anything "secret identity" related.Maybe a different approach to the "secret identity" idea could be to give characters their own personal space or apartments or housing. It would be a great way to introduce players to base building on a small scale, and would help RP'ers with the type of immersion I think the OP is looking for. Just my thoughts. YMMV.

Like I said in another thread the "wrong Issue number" happens fairly often with these predownloads. I've seen that mistake happen in several other predownloads before. I wouldn't worry about that typo too much - the multiple downloads is the real problem to be concerned about.
-
Quote:Don't know why you've downloaded it more than once but I've seen the predownload mislabeled with the previous Issue number several other times like that. For some reason the Devs always seem to forget to increment the Issue label to the latest number. I wouldn't worry about that too much. Why is it that I've gone through the download 3 times after logging out? Didn't seem to be any problem, other than it saying it was the predownload for issue 18.

Quote:Yeah it seems like it's part of the game for us players to have to "figure out the mystery" of what the emote names are.Loving you Silver. That's what I needed: the emote name. I had tried a ton of variations of 'villainstance2' as it appears in-game. That one hadn't occurred to me. Many thanks.
Thanks
-Doc
Sometimes the Devs list them openly but often times they make us have to figure them out for ourselves.
Just to be clear about it the four GR stance emotes are as follows: stancehero1, stancehero2, stancevillain1 and stancevillain2. -
Quote:Basically I would take that to mean I19 will be out on Nov. 16th if no major problems pop up between now and then or they'll let it slide until Nov. 30th so they can take Thanksgiving off.As reported on the Meet-and-greet thread, I19 could be out as early as Nov 16, which is just over a week away. This makes sense to me. Why release a download so early if it's not planned soon-ish?
The same meet-and-greet also said that I19 could be out after Thanksgiving, depending on how things shape up, so don't get your hopes up too far....

Quote:While it might be true that Caprica was originally a non-BSG show they reworked to be a BSG prequel it's hard to get around the fact that the SAME people (David Eick, etc.) were involved in making both shows. I'll grant you that Caprica ended up having some critical problems, but the people who created the BSG you loved had complete and full control over what direction Caprica took. They had complete responsibility and could have made Caprica as good or as bad as they wanted. Apparently they didn't do so well."Caprica" wasn't originally designed around the Battlestar Galactica plot. The pilot script was a generic "cyborg takes over the world after humans give it the ability to think" kind of deal. The writer brought the script to a producer at SyFy and the producer figured that, since BSG was winding down and that they were already looking for a sequel/prequel to it, they gave the script to the BSG producers and a deal was made.
Basically, "Caprica" was an entirely different show that's original plot was reworked to feature Cylons. They went into the script, pulled certain items and then filled in the blanks so that it would fit the story of BSG.
Now, I'm not thrilled at the cancellation but I'm not surprised. The plot, to me, didn't work with BSG. It felt like they had a drama that they HAD to throw some action in to appease the BSG fanbase. Week after week, there was more and more that seemed too far-fetched, even for SciFi standards.
I don't know much about the next Cylon prequel, but I'm hoping that it's done by fans of BSG or at least the plot was specifically designed AROUND what we saw in BSG.
So don't be so quick to assume that Caprica WASN'T "done by fans of BSG or at least the plot was specifically designed AROUND what we saw in BSG" because who better to judge what that should have been than the guys who actually made BSG?
Obviously the Cylons had to come from somewhere so the idea that there had to be a "Cylon origin story" out there made perfect sense. The fact that the producers of this show "borrowed" a similar idea to start from wasn't the problem with Caprica. Caprica failed because it lost its focus and never got around to telling the story it was supposed to tell. That was David Eick's fault, not the basic premise of the story itself. Caprica had the POTENTIAL to be a great show even as a "non pow-pow drama" as you seemed to think it was.
In any case based on the relative failure of Caprica I'm not going to automatically assume Blood and Chrome is going to be any better than Caprica until I see it for myself. *shrugs*
