  1. Yeah having a color swap button would be useful and probably wouldn't be too difficult to implement the way you described either. I know I've wasted many clicks flipping colors around like this over the years, especially for things like gloves, boots and shoulder items to get them to match other parts of various costumes.

I understand that when we're actually playing through the game in combat that even much of the detail we now have in character costuming is relatively pointless. Heck we don't even get to see the fronts of our own characters unless we take the time to turn ourselves around. But for people who actually like to do other things than combat 100% of the time the improvement of character detail will always at least be appreciated if not always a top priority.

I don't care if my last post to you about "customized eyebrows" or the like being an indicator of overall character quality improvement was a "strawman" or not. I'm old enough to have started playing computer games back when systems like the Atari 2600 was brand new so I'm always going to be in favor of ever increasing character detail in games like this, even if that detail starts to becomes so realistically trivial that it's hardly noticeable.

Things like "customized eyebrows" are eventually going to be in all games whether you use them or not so it's not really a matter of any particular set of Devs of any given game wasting time on it. Your original "point" was pretty much akin to someone who loved black-n-white TV saying that adding color to it would be pointless. The color might not be -necessary- but it certainly makes it better.

I'll bet this new character creator wouldn't even wash my clothes, cut my lawn or do my taxes either.
    What a hunk of junk.

While I agree it looks like this costume creator is going to be wasted on a game like EVE at least some of your concerns (hair/body movement) looked covered according to the link Mothers_Love provided earlier in this thread.

Actual Server Mergers are not happening. Because they are a really ****ing bad idea. End of.

Theres nothing wrong with the EU servers. But the NCSoft site is still a pile of shite.
One could logically assume that since the actual server hardware that was in the EU is now in NA that at some point some kind of merge/reorganization will happen. Not much point in calling them the "EU" servers if they aren't in the EU anymore.

Obviously I'd agree that a "unified EU-US server list" would be better than an actual server consolidation. Again that's why I think these would be fair concerns to know about. There might not be any point trying to start a "European CoX" account now if the concept of there even being EU servers is going away pretty soon.

Right. I guess my point really was does this mean there will no long be a distinction between being a EU player versus a NA player? Will the game simply have 15 servers as far as -any- player is concerned? I guess these are the kinds of questions I'd be asking and want to be sure about if I was planning to start a new "EU" account anytime soon.

On the other hand since this sale is only good for one day they might be more inclined to let them all go for 50% off.

I thought I just read something here in the forums not too many days ago about the possibility of the EU servers either being merged or moved over to the NA side of things. Might be worth investigating that before anyone commits to begin playing on the EU servers right now.

(I haven't bought the party pack either... but at half price, I'd consider it.)

Figures- just bought 3 boosters last week.

ah well, might get the Going Rogue collector's edition pack....
While many people whined about the Party Pack I have a sneaking suspicion more people bought it than you'd think. I'm not suggesting it was the game's best selling Booster Pack to date, but by the same token since it cost the Devs relatively little to produce I doubt they "lost" money on the deal.

Again I won't argue that this kind of detail will (or even should) appeal to everyone.
But you can say the same thing about almost any other functional area of this game:

Some people don't see the point of Markets when they never bother to craft anything.
Some people don't see the point of the PvP zones when they never PvP.
Some people couldn't care less about actively obtaining badges in this game.
    and so on...

Computer graphics have been steadily increasing the realism of character appearances in games for decades now - why would anyone seriously speak out against any aspect of that no matter how trivial? With statements such as yours it sounds like you'd be fine with Atari 2600 levels of detail in this game.

There's a vocal minority on the forums who call for these things, but I don't think they would sell well to the general public. There's just not enough bang for the buck - you can't customize them at all and if you are mezzed or you use an Oro portal, they are suppressed and you have to turn them back on.

I frankly like them because A) I have a spefic RP character that they are essential to - a handicapped by who fights crime by possessing other people's bodies, and B) I'm a "collector" and collecting these, while often frustrating, is also kind of fun.
It kind of depends on just how well things like the Party Pack and the Origins Pack sold. Sure there was plenty of whining here in the forums about how they were "yucky-bad" and how people claimed they would never pay money for those things. But obviously the Devs know exactly how well they sold regardless.

My guess is that it would cost them next to nothing to organize a set of those costume codes together into a Booster Pack and I imagine there are enough "collectors" like you out there who would buy it regardless of any open whining over it.

Ultimately it comes down to what the Devs want to do. Would they rather put up with third-party buying/selling/trading of these codes and miss out on an extra source of income from the entire playerbase just to make the tiny fraction of players who can go to these public gatherings happy? If the answer is yes to that then they'll have to accept people selling these codes for hundreds of dollars on eBay. The choice is theirs. *shrugs*

Believe me...Im not disagreeing with you at all. They could easily put out a pack with NPC costume codes and make profit themselves from it (if you are able to use the NCSoft store with no problems). That would be one of the few packs Id be willing to pay for. But ive already said as much in many different posts (such as those regarding the 'origins' pack and 'party' pack)
I'd rather a Mod see these posts and decide to report/log it as point to be considered so that the folks in charge will reconsider their current policy on these costume codes. The way they are handling it only encourages people to do questionable/risky things, even when no third-party money is involved.

I'll gladly risk having a few of my posts deleted if they'll make my point to the people who matter.

That's been the point I've been trying to make here.

Hopefully this thread won't be closed since I don't have any intention of buying or selling codes.

Clearly that sounds like kind of a waste for EVE.
On the other hand it sounds like it'd be much more applicable for CoH.

Obviously there will always be people who care more about highly detailed characters (both creating them and looking at them) than others. But I think it's safe to say improvements with new character creators like this one will become common in all kinds of games MMOs or otherwise.

I think the argument could be made that the reason it's been "largely a waste" until now is that up until now most characters really couldn't look all that different from each other. Once you'd seen a few dozen running around you'd pretty much seen all there was to see. I suspect as games allow ever increasing levels of customization it'll become less of a "waste" because more characters will be more unique than ever before.

This post will be wiped by mods soon for what you mentioned LOL
Perhaps. But it'll only be out of embarrassment on their part because they know what I said was the truth.
The way they've handled giving out these codes have motivated people to do very silly things...

I agree it's good to see that the folks involved have already approached each other and are willing to consider working together on this.
  21. I think if you come up with a character concept that justifies having multiple travel powers I don't see anything technically "wrong" with. If your main goal with a character is to min/max it for absolute DPS/PvP efficiency they yeah maybe there would be an argument against having multiple travel powers. But if your goal is to have a character you want to play even if it could be considered "slightly gimp" for wasting slots on extra travel powers then I wouldn't let that stop you.

I have a couple of characters with two travel powers just because it seemed to "make sense" for the type of characters they are. As you say with the Incarnate system (and City Traveler if you have it) I think it'll be easier than ever to work multiple travel powers into a build and not have to seriously sacrifice anything for that.

Bottomline I'd do what you consider fun regardless.
  22. It's amazing how far computer graphics and GUIs like this have come since this game started in 2004. If our Devs could rework our character/costume creator to be this good I would probably spend so much time playing around with it that I could easily justify spending like an extra $50 for it. *hint, hint*

As a further hint if you're going to buy Candy Canes on the market I'd do it ASAP. It's very possible that in the next few weeks before the Winter Event their price will spike up in anticipation of people wanting to use them. Good Luck.

A ten year old computer handling any kind of current "max" settings without a noticeable drop in frame rate... That's fairly impressive.
Did you manage to port CoH to some kind of Cray supercomputer left over from the 90s?
