Just as an FYI I've noticed that sometimes when I first log in I won't see a change in the percentage completed on a Day Job progress bar until I zone with that character. It's like the GUI doesn't get updated until I zone.

Sounds like you found your problem in this case. But if your progress bar ever looks like it got "stuck" again I'd make sure to zone first just to make sure.

    Congrats on 892.

Yeah these threads usually get started right after a new Issue allows people to sprint up to new badge totals that were impossible before. You can pretty much expect a "1,100 badge club" thread as soon as I19 goes live.

I can understand all sides of this argument. I can see merit in the "change the one-shot code" position, the "leave the one-shot code as is" position and even the "remove the one-shot code completely" position.

Ultimately I think the current version of the one-shot code is the workable compromise between all these points of view. Is it strictly realistic? Not really because if a character gets hit for 10,000 HPs of damage that "realistically" should kill him/her instantly. But having the one-shot code in place does give players a slim chance to manage a proverbial "Saving Throw vs. Death" against scenarios (either PvE or PVP) that would otherwise be pointlessly frustrating.

Basically I believe the current one-shot code is more positive to the game than negative. Changing it how The_Cheshire_Cat suggests would probably make it too good and removing it completely would be more annoying than simply leaving it alone as is.

P.S. As a quick anecdote I almost managed to fail a Master of Statesman's Task Force one time because I stupidly let my squishy Controller get tagged by the Arachnos Flyer in the last mission. The one-shot code keep me alive for the half-second I needed to pop a green and back away from it. Let's just say based on that event alone I don't think there's really any reason to change how the one-shot code works one way or the other.
  4. Well regardless of Spike's and even Angel's occasional "emo" tendencies I think Buffy at its worse was still a 1000x more acceptable and enjoyable than something like Twilight.

I have my misgivings about any Buffy without Whedon actually being any good in general. But what I fear more than it simply not being good is that the people behind this reboot may be thinking they want to jump on the Twilight bandwagon and decided to dust-off/retool Buffy into a some kind of cookie-cutter Twilight clone just to try cash in on the whole "tweener sparkle vamp" fad.

A bad rip-off of Buffy I could almost tolerate in the grand scheme of things.
A Buffy that's been totally reworked into an obvious Twilight clone would be a seriously epic fail.

Yes I'm actually aware that Depp is a good actor and is capable of handling a wide range of roles. I'm even willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he won't "ham" up Tonto too much.

But if you were to look over the films Depp has done there are far more well-known Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka type characters than George Jung and Dean Corso types. I think it's reasonable to at least assume, at first glance, that plugging Depp into the role of Tonto might suggest that they wanted someone who can handle "quirky comedy" more than "stoic seriousness". Let's just say if they had picked a guy who was known only for playing non-comedic roles (like for the sake of argument someone like Daniel Day-Lewis) then the focus/expectation of this movie would be much more clear-cut to me.

I'm just hoping that Depp will give Tonto one of his more serious, non-clowny efforts.

Well I can't really argue with that. Depp's "star power" would probably help any movie he was cast in regardless of the role.
Still it's going to be interesting to see how he handles it. I'll be hoping that he won't make a clown out of Tonto...

That said, he has Cherokee heritage. So your wish is granted.
Yeah I'm not really upset with his casting because he's not Native American "enough".
I'm just not sure he'll play it seriously and respectfully enough to the source material.

I'm worried they are going to try to update Tonto by "lightening" him up and make him less stoic/noble by using Depp's comedic talents.
    I just don't want to see a "happy-go-lucky" Tonto.

Genndy Tartakovsky managed scenes like this in Samurai Jack.
Or course he never used a classic Flock of Seagulls song for that series.
  9. I like Depp in many of the movies he's done. But I really can't see why they chose him to play Tonto unless they were going for something comedic out of him. I just can't see him trying to play this role completely straight-faced serious. While I might be interested in seeing a reboot of the Lone Ranger played seriously/heroically I don't really want to see a comedic version of this. A sad ripoff of Blazing Saddles would simply be sad.

Yes I'm sure it's not only possible but done quite often to get around restrictions that serve only to frustrate reasonable users attempting to pay for goods and services over the Internet in good faith. It's just sad that people have to stoop to semi-questionable means to accomplish that.
  11. Yeah having a clock on our displays might be a nice QoL feature, but it's hardly a critical one to play the game.
The Devs might eventually provide this but I don't think anyone could really be -that- upset if it never happens. *shrugs*

While it might be nice to have one program that "does it all" I don't think it's something you need to be worried about producing anytime soon, if ever. Hero Stats is relatively complicated, already exists and does what it does (which is mostly non-badge stuff) fairly well. No need to do a lot of extra work just to copy all that non-badge functionality.

At this point all we need is a simple tool to do badge verification for Badge-Hunter. If you can copy that basic function from what Titan Sentinel provides that's good enough. Worry about extra "bells and whistles" later on if you ever get the time for it.
  13. So I assume PlayNC is blocking these IPs because presumably Levelup Games is supposed to be handling the situation even though they aren't? That is pretty crappy. Is South America the only area having to deal with that kind of thing or are there other areas/countries dealing with this scenario as well?

I guess as a SA player you'd have to resort to IP rehosting to "trick" this out and yes, I agree that's not a "good" thing to have to do.

This is why I have a love-hate thing going with this show right now. There are elements that are worthwhile and I definitely want to continue watching it at this point. Unfortunately it also has so many questionable pitfalls and hiccups related to the vaguely defined zombie situation that I fear it could get very stupid very quickly. This show is treading a fine line between being innovative and exasperating.

I like shows that have mysteries that serve the purposes of the plot.
Mysteries that crop up because the story is designed to be ill-defined or vague just for vague's sake don't thrill me too much.
  15. So is there anything about living in South America that prevents you from having access to an account directly from NCsoft the way NA or EU players interact with it? I guess in this Internet age I don't fully understand why you'd have to deal with a third party (in this case Levelup Games) to do anything with a company directly even if that company is based in another country.

I'm a NA player and when I went to Japan on a business trip I had no problem playing the game or even accessing my account to buy a Super Booster pack while I was there. I didn't have to deal with any third party at all.

I understand that Levelup Games might make it easier for Brazilians to pay for this game locally. But it seems like it might be worth their hassle to find other ways to pay for this game (via international payments) if it means they can bypass the Levelup Games' interference. *shrugs*

Now that we can buy respec token recipes (giving us access to virtually unlimited respecs) there's really no justification for not letting us earn all 6 respecs like that.

Again the idea that you may or may not get a badge based on whether you used certain respec tokens years ago (long before there was even a hint that such a thing would even matter) would be very unacceptable. Seems like it would be far easier to just let everyone be able to get all six badges.

These are currently the only badges that have ANY restrictions for people who crossover.
There's really no reason they should be uniquely limited like that.

I can see the clip now where his bleeding stump has a bunch of zombies following him as he comes across the van. He climbs in through the back, with a bunch of the geeks trying to get at him and he drives out to the camp for a special delivery!!
Yet we already know Merle cauterized his stump so there'd be no bleeding anymore. *sigh*

I simply don't buy the "Merle took the truck and led the geeks back to camp" idea either by accident or on purpose. That'd be way too simple an explanation. The fact that they allowed the audience to even jump to that as a possibly is the classic definition of a "red herring".

I'll give it 3 to 5 years before they "reboot" the whole princess thing.
Over the years Disney has been the masters of declaring things "gone forever" then bringing them back at a later date.
    This'll be no different...

I know these people in the camp are just "civilians" and not trained soldiers who would know how to set up a proper defensive perimeter around their camp. But if they seriously let their guard down so much that the zombies were able to just walk into camp via the unguarded road or some-such then they really all deserved to be killed right then and there.

I know people in this thread have been arguing the idea that after several weeks/months the campers would grow tired or complacent enough to let their guard down. But seriously folks they just saw a "geek" like a day before a few yards from their tents. If there was ever a time for them to "wake up" and get serious about being prepared it was then.

Basically I would feel better to learn there was some kind of "trick" as to why they were so easily attacked (like someone cut the wires) because if they were just totally stupid then I won't have much sympathy/empathy for them from now on.

I'm looking forward to some kind of "twist" explanation (like your idea that the wires were cut) or that the zombies are actually smarter than they initially appear. Maybe we learn that at least a few of the zombies are like "leader zombies" that are smarter than most of the other "minion" level ones. Or maybe what's left of the government (a.k.a. the "helicopter guys") are directing them to kill leftover humans for some reason.

There's a lot of ways this could develop into something interesting.

I weirdly liked both the original Buffy movie and the Buffy/Angel TV shows (for different reasons of course). I heard they were talking about a new Buffy movie reboot like a year ago. I guess they are finally getting more serious about it. Frankly I'd prefer to see a "Next Generation" idea for this done instead of trying to bring back the original characters.

I really don't have that much hope for a Buffy movie which Whedon has absolutely no involvement with, but I'm willing to wait and see what direction they go with this.

Then of course fairly recently (like a month or two ago) I read something that suggested she was in fact planning some new Potter stories.
I never really doubted that would happen for a minute.

Did they not use the "Z-word" in the comic as well? Curious if the TV show is following the lead of the comic as far as that goes.

Anyway I figure it's just this show's/story's attempt to make itself "different" from the run-of-the-mill zombie series. Nothing wrong with that. Just like BSG used the word "frak" as unique jargon to get away with saying, well, you know. In this case this show is -not- using the expected Z-word just to be different in it's own way.

BTW, the British Ultraviolet series was awesome. Good reference.
  23. I think the only reason why zombies eat people in this story is because it's creepy for them to do so from a story point of view, not because they really need to for any kind of logical or biological reason. It's not like they specifically "neeeeeddd braaaainnnss" or anything clear-cut. The fact that this story has kept everything vague about them leaves us really nothing to "understand" about them.

I think that's part of the reason I think zombie stories are for the most part fundamentally "dumb" from the get go. Their only purpose seems to be to scare humans on some primitive level. Primal fear only works so long in a story before it gets overused and boring. Again like I said I'm trying my best to overlook the obvious problems and "enjoy" it the best I can.

I still maintain enough suspension of disbelief to not really worry about the exact details of the workings of these zombies. We were given the hint in the first episode that it's perhaps some kind of weird virus that reanimates them. That's fine enough for me until we learn more about them through the story. I would very much like to know how they started appearing, but how they work doesn't bother me.

To be perfectly honest I always thought zombies were one of the most classically illogical versions of undead from the point of view of how plausible they are. Mindless flesh and bones maimed, rotting and useless? How could they possibly move/attack to begin with? Why does putting a crossbow bolt into their brains in this show 'kill' them regardless of what part of the brain it hits?

I guess I've purposefully decided to avoid figuring zombies out in general because they would "fall apart" (pun intended) under my electron microscope of scrutiny so quickly it'd make your head spin.
