What do you mean you're not upset about the methods available to soloers to get shards? I thought that was your whole point. Didn't you just say you didn't like having to be at the mercy of the RNG for shards when every other thing is purchasable via merits?

Like I said I figure if enough people whine about this the Devs will allow us to buy shards via "merits" just like anything else. The Devs are never going to "fix" the RNG - at best they'll give us the merit purchase alternative as you're suggesting.

You can say on average a soloist will get the shards more slowly but the truth is that there can be outliers who will not get the shards at even close to the average rate. Across the playerbase that drop rate may be fine but some people are going to be above the average and some are going to be below.

So how is it different? The devs have put in place merits to offset the randomness of the RNG for every other drop in the game but not for shards.
I19 has only been live for just over 2 days now. Give it a break.

The game will evolve if the Devs' deem there is a need for it. Frankly based on people like you who are "upset" about this I have no doubt that we'll eventually see some kind of general "merits for shards" update. The Devs already cracked open that door with the ability to buy Gr'ai Matter for 150 Vanguard Merits.

Give it a chance to work itself out. *shrugs*

When it comes to things like the extra Explore badges in the hazard zones it does seem a little bit like "adding badges just to add badges" at this point. I have the feeling if these badges existed back when these zones were first created then nobody would really think it was "weird" for them to be there. Waiting years after the fact is a bit anticlimactic to say the least.

What I said does not prevent a soloer from earning shards via the current default methods available (i.e. drops from critters). They may not get them as quickly as someone who teams a lot in TFs/SFs/raids, but then again how is that different from any other aspect of this game related to soloer vs. teamer?

The fact that we see fundamental rules of science are "redefinable" gives me hope that other nagging rules like "can't go faster than the speed of light" will also be overcome at some point. We simply need to build engines that run on Dark Energy/Matter.

I realize there are some people who despise team play. I don't really understand that mentality in a MMO, but I can accept it. The real irony of course is that, as you say, just about the only content you really need to be an Incarnate for involves team play. Go figure.
  8. Well that's still cool on some level. If we continue to find very weird "extremophile" versions of life here on Earth then there will be better odds that similar types of non-carbon based alien life will be found out there.

Lately, however, I'm seeing all of them go reliably for 120k and all of them spiking up to 400k, so not worth combining from what I've seen.
The real trick of this (getting back to the OP's original question) is that oftentimes you can buy large orange and yellow inspirations fairly cheaply (like say for only 5k each). If you buy three of them for like 15k then you can combine them into a single large purple or wakie (which tend to go for like 200k or more) and actually make some decent INF that way.

Personally I use this "trick" all the time to restock my inspiration trays with large inspirations fairly cheaply.

    - The "Praetorian Tourist" badge, which isn't available to anyone.
    - The four "morality reinforcement" badges, which aren't awarding for anyone yet.
This might just be a quibble but since the Praetorian Tourist badge and the "morality reinforcement" badges don't currently exist as live badges in the game technically no one can get these badges at the moment, not just Primals. I prefer not to lump potential "found only in the .pigg files" badges in with live badges. Basically we don't know if badges like these will EVER become real badges so there's not much point to worrying about them right now.

Yeah the "tourist respec" badge issue does need to be dealt with one way or the other.

I think it would be very crummy if the ability to earn a badge permanently rested on whether or not I chose to use a respec token years ago. The most logical thing to do would be to allow anyone to earn all 6 badges (3 hero and 3 villain) even if that meant we could have 6 respec tokens racked up. It's not like having lots of respec tokens would break the game - I have alts who have access to like 10 Vet respec tokens right now.

Hopefully the Devs will sort this problem out in a timely fashion.

That said, I do confess that I only skimmed over (at best!) the text my first run through, so I probably would have missed it either way.
Well I haven't even tried this arc yet so thanks to this thread I won't have to be totally clueless about it regardless of how vague the wording is.

Maybe, assuming you don't ascribe to urban legend that if you ever mention Bug Hunter in relation to reporting a bug you'll automatically never get it.

But actually with the recent favorable changes to how epic badges can be earned (i.e. the fix to the age-old problem of having to overcome any power related HP boosts before damage credit is registered for the damage badges) I almost think the Devs might not care if you could use Trapdoor for a heal target. Frankly it'd be pretty cumbersome to set that mission up for a heal farm over multiple sessions considering there are still easier ways to accomplish heal farming.

So while this is an interesting bit of trivia it's doubtful it'll ever be fixed as a "bug" or otherwise. *shrugs*

I got the tantrum emote last night on my second run at this but I don't think I've seen the flex emote you mentioned. I assume it's a new flex emote unlike the few other flexes we already have correct?

Thanks for the walkthrough. I've yet to attempt this arc but it was probably something I was going try in the next day or two anyway.

I have nothing against the idea of the Devs coming up with new mission mechanics or even the idea of getting hard missions to do, but frankly this sounds (just based on this thread) a tad bit overly-frustrating. I'll obviously be a better judge of it when I try it. *shrugs*

I'll bet if the bacteria eat arsenic and excrete something useful like Vigara we'd be building 100 new spaceships to get there.

Yes, your character will go into the mission with Vigilante intent. Unfortunately, in several cases you will end up doing things that could have Phipps cringe.

But you will stop the bad guy. At all costs.
To be clear your Vigilante can now go to the RI and get a Tip mission that enables him to behave more like a Vigilante. But that Tip is still technically going to be a Villain Tip because that's the only choice you have when you start the mission as a tourist.

Again I think it's cool we have new Tip missions that let Vigilantes "act" like Vigilantes (and Rogues act like Rogues) as tourists. I just think if I want my tourist Vigilante to act like a Vigilante I should be able to specifically CHOOSE that kind of mission and get Vigilante credit for it. It's the lack of player choice that's the real problem here.

I'm sure the cap for Incarnate salvages will be at least that many if not more like 999 or 9999.

This is what I was going to say. When I got my first character to the late 40's, I got a "no sets? lol" and kicked from an ITF.

I've since left a handful of teams where the leader, or some other member made snide comments about someone's set bonuses or lack thereof, and kicked them from the team

Yeah. I consider it a bonus a-hole detector feature.
This reminds me of the complaint about people who look at the number of Veteran badges a player has and uses that as a excuse to boot people off teams if they are deemed a "noob" player. While I'm sure that happens (because there are always a handful of idiotic e-peen elitists out there) I'm also quite sure it happens so infrequently across the entire playerbase that it's hardly worth getting that upset about.

There will always be people who will be prejudiced against other players for any silly reason you can imagine so that's not a good enough justification for hiding information that could be POTENTIALLY used for that purpose. I don't want to play a game that tries to keep me too "safe" from that kind of thing because that kind of protection will only get in the way far more often than it ever helps anything.
  20. A Lifetime Subscription offer would be more convenient (and obviously cheaper in the long run) for me as a player. But I think, as others have stated, it would be a bad business decision at the current time.

Besides I look at it this way: I still get a good amount of enjoyment from playing this game and I don't really mind paying reasonable prices for good entertainment. I'd rather keep paying to support this game than to save a few bucks and have the development budget of our Devs suffer for it.

This would be the main reason I would /sign against this idea.

I understand the concern the Stormfront_NA is talking about, but frankly in the several years Ouroboros has been around I've only seen the area congested by AFK people a few times. I'd rather preserve the speedy travel capability of the way it works now than to try to "solve" a problem (or really a slight annoyance) that only happens once in a very long while.

This basically seems like a solution looking for a big enough problem to justify it.
  22. For some reason this thread reminded me of a classic Fawlty Towers scene:

Colonel Hall: Duck with Orange; duck with cherries; duck surprise.
    Mrs. Hall: What's duck surprise?
Basil Fawlty: Er... that's duck without oranges or cherries.
Colonel Hall: I mean is this all there is - Duck?
Basil Fawlty: Yes... done of course in three extremely different ways.
Colonel Hall: And what do you do if you don't like duck?
Basil Fawlty: Well if you don't like duck... you're rather stuck.

  24. If you're doing a particular SF/TF then what alignment you are shouldn't matter in regards to what reward options you have at the end of that SF/TF. I've never heard of any limitations/restrictions as far as that goes.

    Vigilante Woes

It really seems like as long as the Devs account for the following:

Heroes can only earn Hero or Vigilante points.
Vigilantes can only earn Vigilante, Hero or Villain points.
Villains can only earn Villain or Rogue points.
Rogues can only earn Rogue, Hero or Villain points.

Heroes can choose to run Hero blueside or Vigilante blueside Tips.
Vigilantes can choose to run Hero blueside, Vigilante blueside, Vigilante redside or Villain redside Tips.
Villains can choose to run Villain redside or Rogue redside Tips.
Rogues can choose to run Villain redside, Rogue redside, Rogue blueside or Hero blueside Tips.

Then it ultimately wouldn't matter whose mission was whose while teaming with differently aligned people or what side you're on while doing it. The combos I've highlighted in yellow are prohibited for no apparent good reason, and if there -is- a reason that reason should be changed.
