Quote:And I'm supposed to sympathize with people who are still "upset" with something that's been the status quo for six years and can be easily "solved" if you simply didn't let it bother you so much? Please...I'm not really concerned about your personal preferences. They have no bearing on your inability to accept other players might not share you same acceptance of the lack of SFs.
Being able to play both sides is irrelevant when not everyone has your same playstyle, and assuming such is myopic.
Lastly, you seem to *shrug* a lot in your posts. You might want to get that nervous tic checked out.
Talk about being myopic. Get over this useless angst you have over "equal numbers". Anyone who's given it an ounce of thought realizes that most of the redside-only SFs are generally more fun and better designed than the older blueside ones. The fact that the redside has FEWER of them is more than counterbalanced by the fact that they are much BETTER than the older blue ones.
Lastly I tend to *shrug* a lot because most of the time I'm responding to people who ought to know better but for some reason don't. It's usually my way of saying "isn't it obvious you're overreacting to X". *shrugs* -
Quote:I had problems using PayPal with this game when I tried to use a US based PayPal account while I was visiting Japan.Originally I did it because they started throwing security errors over my card details a few months back (EU Card trying to pay for US service I guess) but I've had no issues since I did so.
Better off letting the professionals handle credit card processing, seems NCSoft can't get a handle on it themselves.
I'm just saying that NCSoft's handling of PayPal is not perfect either.
-
Quote:I agree that it sucks that it can't handle the initial rush.Their store is simply rubbish at handling CC payments.
I just used PayPal instead, as I do for all my transactions with NCSoft.
But like I said in another related thread I have -never- had a problem buying one of these new packs if I just give it a few hours after its initial release. Since I'm usually at work and can't play until I get home that little extra wait doesn't bother me for the most part.
-
Quote:Well I already resigned myself to having to wait 5 extra days because I wanted to pay for it. But since I'm currently at work, and can't actually play the game for like another 6+ hours anyway, the fact that I'm "willing" to wait a little longer for the account/store servers to clear suits me fairly nicely.Because waiting 5 days longer than you should have to while the Pack is ready is perfectly reasonable...
Oh, wait.
-
I know there are always a few people like you who get in and get these codes pretty early in the day. But I learned years ago that it's usually far easier to wait 6-12 hours after the "initial" release before I'll even try to buy it. In every case that I waited a few hours I have NEVER had any trouble buying the item in question.Quote:Finally got through. But, seriously, this shouldn't happen. Whoever programmed the store site should be kicked for doing such a bad job and never ever bothering to fix it so that this didn't happen every damn time something released. They KNOW that there will be a rush for things, so why not PLAN for that?
People just have to have some patience.

Quote:The fact that CoV has fewer SFs than blueside's TFs has never bothered me because I've played BOTH sides pretty close to 50/50 ever since CoV was released. The idea that it might still be "annoying" to other people is simply a facet of this game's experience that I have zero sympathy for. *shrugs*It's absolutely annoying for villains to have less TFs/SFs. Insulting people because you don't care anymore or wish to disregard their concern isn't welcomed either.
Rolling your eyes is also a clear sign of maturity.
My "maturity" in this matter comes from the fact that I don't let trivial differences like this bother me like they might have used to when I was younger.
As always YMMV... -
Quote:Every free code they give away, regardless of when they give it away, already pretty much guarantees one less SALE of a paid-for code. How many dozens (or even hundreds?) of people had a free legitimate code installed before today? You know, you have a point there. But if they gave out free codes at the moment of the release or after, that would cut into their sales (or sails
).
I understand the whole idea of giving away some of your new product away for free as a form of advertisement. Nothing wrong with that. I just find it funny that because I actually want to give them money I had to wait longer than people who will NOT likely be giving the company any extra money for their efforts. It's almost like being PUNISHED for wanting to be a more loyal customer than someone else.

Quote:It's possible that this IO alchemy thing might be "relatively easier" to implement now that we already have the set IO system in place. But I think this would still be a far cry from being a trivial addition to the game for all sorts of reasons. This new system is simple and should be straight forward (allowing for SCR) to implement compared to Set IOs.
The potential problems associated with this idea simply outweigh the potential benefits. Again it's not question of being "overpowered", it's more a question of smoothing over a game mechanic that I believe the Devs actually consider important. I believe the Devs want us to have to compromise for build choices and not have "perfectly shaped" custom IOs available to fill in all the gaps in our build designs. The "rough edges" are part of the game and encourage build diversity.
Basically IO alchemy is a fix for a "problem" that really isn't a problem. *shrugs* -
Quote:I certainly have no problem with the idea of buying the Backup Radio recipes with the cheapest salvage costs. But are you sure the "low level" recipe is actually the middle one listed in the market interface? I always assumed that the middle one listed was in fact the "middle level" recipe. And in general you always want to buy the lowest level version because the salvage is cheapest. Why pay 2-4million for the rare when you can pay 6-20k instead?
For some bizarre reason, on the market interface the low level recipe is always the one in the middle.
It makes sense that this would usually be the cheapest one to craft because of simple supply-and-demand. Most people usually speed through the low levels quickly (making low range rare salvage expensive) and most people are crafting high level IOs at high level (making high range rare salvage expensive). Therefore medium range rare salvages tend to be the cheapest available across the board.

Quote:This seems like a pretty big hint that the Devs do intend to eventually provide Flashback access to the Praetorian content. The badge progress mentions being able to get it via Flashback, but at this time, you cannot access any Praetorian content through the Flashback system.
No idea when that'll actually happen of course, just something to keep in mind.

Quote:Well this just goes to show you that you can learn something new everyday.Last year I spent like 40 minutes staring at Mako (last one I need for Justicar), both of us completely frozen by the lag that comes with 200 people crowding into Galaxy, pushing the buttons for all my powers and hoping for the best. I didn't get the badge.Quote:You may want to hold off on any immediate plans to get the AVs in RV, for the past two anniversaries the AVs were spawned in regular zones (the heroes in the Rogue Isles, the Arachnos AVs in Paragon City), and you could get the badges that way. The devs might end up doing the same thing this year.

I've been collecting badges for years and know a lot about badges in general but I've honestly never heard about this opportunity to get the RV AV badges outside of RV during the last couple of anniversary "celebrations". Maybe I just never paid attention because I got those badges done so long ago I wasn't thinking about it. *shrugs*
Anyway it sounds like this has become an annual event so this is cool news for those people who still want/need those badges. Hopefully they'll choose to spawn them a bit more regularly so there won't be a repeat of what happened to you Silver Gale.
-
My only problem with it (at least until today) was that I actually want to pay for this new pack. I want to give our Devs money to show my appreciation and support for adding cool new optional things to this game.
Funny thing is that I almost had to go out of my way -not- to get one of the free codes they've been handing out since last Friday. It's cool they are willing to toss out free codes to promote the new pack, but it's been weird for me to have to wait LONGER to get it just because I want to PAY for it. Somehow that seems totally backwards to me.

Quote:I bet there will be people out there who'll never get tired of whining that the blueside has more TFs than the redside has SFs. I've been playing CoH for seven years (and CoV for six years) and that pathetic mantra just -never- gets old...I bet that they get through all of the Strike Forces sooner rather than later....
I'm surprised I haven't seen people whining that the blueside has more TFs than Praetoria yet. *rolls eyes* -
Quote:Well if a talking cat or dog can CONVINCE me through their acting ability that they are Lois Lane then theoretically there's nothing "wrong" with it. But would that be the "best" choice for a serious dramatic role? Probably not...Okay then you should have no problem then if they decide to cast the part of Lois Lane as a talking dog or cat. Cuz if the actress is good enough to nail the personality and presence of Lois Lane it will carry over to voice acting.
If race shouldn't be a deciding factor neither should species. -
Frankly I will always question whenever an established character is played by a person who doesn't closely match the original characterization. For example I think Samuel Jackson is a great actor and I usually love him in anything I see him in. But was it right for him to be cast as Nick Fury? Was he the "best" actor for the role? I think things like that will always be open to a reasonable amount of debate. *shrugs*
-
Quote:Did you even read the rest of my post or did you just decide to react to the first couple of sentences I wrote? It should be "best actress that fits the character", in this case caucasian.
So the entire history of the character as caucasian means nothing?
These kind of theoretical question seem to come up alot in these forums. As far as I'm concerned, if there is going to be a change of that nature to a long standing character like that, there had better be a damn good reason for it beyond the whims of the production staff. And no, being the "best actress" is not good enough.
I'll requote myself here just to be sure you don't miss it again:
Ironically you ended up REPEATING almost THE EXACT SAME THING I SAID.Quote:in the case of something as iconic as the characters surrounding Superman I almost think you'd really have to come up with a serious artistic justification to cast Lois with anyone other than a white woman.
*sigh*
-
I don't really have a problem with it from a "best actress for the role" point of view. Theoretically there's nothing about the role of Lois Lane that requires her to be portrayed as any specific race.
On the other hand it'd almost be like casting a Chinese man in the role of Abraham Lincoln. There'd be nothing strictly "wrong" with it but on the other hand everyone "knows/expects" that any actor playing Abraham Lincoln would probably be more convincing if he were a tall, lanky white man, at least from a historical accuracy point of view.
I'm not suggesting that Lois Lane, a fictional character, be strictly compared to a famous historical figure. But honestly in the case of something as iconic as the characters surrounding Superman I almost think you'd really have to come up with a serious artistic justification to cast Lois with anyone other than a white woman.
So could a black actress play the part and play it effectively? Sure.
I'm just not seeing the overwhelming necessity to make that change just for what might amount to change's sake. -
Quote:While I still think it's cool they like to organize all these free give-aways for these packs I still like to pay for them because I want to vote with my money and actually support the game that I love.I thought about entering, but then I saw the time on the giveaway and figured it's likely I'd have to buy the pack before I found out whether I'd won or not and decided to furget about it.
The only irony to this is that while some people got to have fun with this new pack as early as Friday I get to wait until tomorrow to actually PAY for it. It just seems funny to force people who WANT to pay to have to wait longer for it.
-
Hopefully you are, or at least one of the few at any rate.

I still don't understand why people are so upset about this. It was always implied that as time goes on pretty much any TF/SF could eventually become a WST at some point. Obviously some TF/SFs are better than others for all sorts of reasons.
If you don't like whatever's being offered for the latest WST wait for a week with something else.
It's not -that- hard to deal with. *shrugs* -
I'd like to be able to cut-n-paste unicode characters into the text like we used to be able to the first couple of years of this game. At some point that magically got nerfed and we've been unable to do it since.

Frankly the entire editor needs to be overhauled regardless... -
I'm not necessarily against the idea of having ranked (i.e. gold, silver, bronze) versions of defeat badges. But there are currently so many enemy groups out there that don't even have ONE badge right now that I'd prefer to see a bunch of those added before I'd worry about giving older ones multiple versions.

Quote:My argument is that many min/maxers have their own preferred min/max numbers right now because the current system (without something like IO alchemy) won't let them get to the one "perfect" optimal build. Because the holy grail is impossible we have some diversity, even among min/maxers.I understand the concern, but I think this taking it to extremes. If what you're saying were true, that would be going on now with whats available. While I'm sure there are a lot of people copying builds, I don't think it's rampant, and I don't think it would be done anymore than it's done now. The problem with FotM mentality is that if it becomes popular enough, the expense to achieve the build goes up as the demand for those sets rises. Which leads people to then find comparable solutions for less - thus returning the diversity of builds.
Your argument also presumes everyone chasing the FotM build has the inf to do so. It also presumes that there would be only one "perfect" build for said AT/Powersets, and neglects that fact that many min/maxers have their own preferred min/max numbers for their playstyle.
For example, I have an Elec/Stone tank. Going to the forums, many people will suggest soft-capping S/L. I've only built mine to 30% and greatly increased the +HP. Which build would be better? It all depends on what you did with your tank. In all honesty, both are "perfect" for the person using them. Either way, they're still min/maxed in one way or the other.
But if we had a system where we didn't have to make build compromises because we had a means to "smooth" over the shortfalls with perfectly designed custom IOs then I suspect we would be led down a road where there would be less diversity amongst builds in general. Why would people be motivated to make unique builds when an "optimal" build could handle any situation?
Basically the idea behind IO alchemy only serves to circumvent the natural "rough edges" in the system that forces us to make compromises. IO alchemy probably would not break the game and unlike what Carnifax_NA I don't really think it's an issue of being "too powerful". I simply believe it would do much to encourage cookie-cutter builds which in and of itself is not really desirable in a game like this.
And like others I'm not even going to really dwell on how hard this would probably be to implement by the Devs, assuming they actually liked this idea. *shrugs* -
Quote:Apparently some people care because it goes against their own "expectations" that there would be people out there who would want to do something differently. These people basically need to get over that. Why is there even an argument here?
There are good reasons for doing a "slow" run of a TF: shards, xp, purple drops, purity of the game.
There are good reasons for doing a speed run of a TF: components, more end rewards, mini-game "competition".
The game allows rewards for both styles, so why do we care when someone else does it differently than we do? There is room enough for all. -
Quote:I never said it was HARD to find teams that want to do slow runs. I said I believe in a game that's 7 years old that it's a mistake (on the part of the OP for instance) to ASSUME most people would want to do slow runs. There is a difference.I have no problem finding TF or SF teams that don't speed, made of all levels of "vets" and non-vets, and who are very good players. And you may have missed that "sad" was a play on the thread title. Because, really? It's only a game. That people play a variety of ways.
As always YMMV.

Quote:Creative is as creative does. *shrugs*To be fair, when I personally am deep in production on something--especially during the more tedious and repetitive tasks--I find that large portions of my creative mind are simultaneously activated but have little in the immediate to direct themselves towards. For me, this is when internal ramblings, similar to what Jay spouts, race through my own brain. I don't think he's really taking away hours from his responsibilities to write these things. I think they are pretty spontaneous and they these days the public teases, though still as severe when they do occur, are incredibly infrequent.
I just think it's safe to say the people on this forum are more than capable of generating rumors and speculation about future content without the Devs randomly tossing in verbal hand grenades to stir things up.
To be fair I'd just rather have more finished products to play with than public "teases" about future possible products. If Jay can't be direct with us on the forums (because of marketing or whatever) then I'd rather him not make any "effort" to try half-baked or otherwise.
