Quote:And my question relates to this in what way?Apparently I forgot a couple of words in my post that you quoted. The various posts that mention modifications "do not" discuss changing the program files themselves.
Not one of the mentioned modifications change the .pigg files.
I never mentioned editing the .pigg files, I want to find a way to create an override file that works in an identical manner to the other mentioned override types.
If I'd asked how to edit a map texture so I could see spawn locations would you be jumping all over me?
This is no different. I want to override an existing file with a new file. The new file has one character changed from the old, arguably less of a change than map changes, icon remakes or pophelp changes. -
Had the same issue on several characters at different points in their careers, and while it might not be the norm when it happens it's a bloody pain. Especially on characters that cannot wipe out huge mobs in a few shots. Personally all I'd like see done is add tips dropping to the end of any mission if you haven't got any or have less than 3 and still have empty rep slots. (The things you can only fill five of a day, no idea what they're really called.)
I don't think it'd effect anything as you can get tips off any enemy even if much lower in level to you so it's not like there is any point in restricting the drop rate. -
Quote:I'm not entirely sure why you think there is a difference.Because the various popmenu, help file, sound files, icon pack, or map pack threads discuss how to change binary files in the client.
Every single one of those puts additional data in the override directory (/data) without touching the client itself.
I see no difference to it, the files have different extensions it's true. One only contains language specific text (as far as I can see) while the others contain much the same but are in a plain text format.
If I'm told by a community rep or dev that I must not do this I won't, but I would expect all similar hacks to be dealt with in the same way. But as it stands I don't see how removing an in effect keybind from a menu is any worse than putting all my pet commands in one place or making a huge array of custom emotes or text strings. -
Yet none of the various popmenu and help file threads have been locked/deleted. Nor has any mention of the map-pack/icon-pack been removed.
I have saved my chat tabs, but they never reload correctly. Global channels particularly need to be manually edited every load. Hence my annoyance.
Though I was really asking if such a change was possible not if I should do it or how to do it... or even what tools to use. Which I understood was the original allowance posted by CuppaJo all those years ago... I could be wrong. -
Does anyone know if it is possible to edit one of the .bin files without killing it?
Specifically I want to change a single character in the clientmessages-en.bin so that right clicking chat tabs no longer links the 'D' key to Delete Tab. I've found the place in the file and I can edit it, and whack it into the overrides folder but then the game won't load.
And yes I know client mods are wrong both morally and ethically. But I'm so tired of losing my chat tabs all the time. -
Currently if two accounts have a levelling pact and one account runs out of credit (becomes unplayable) the pact is automatically broken, even if neither character is played for however long the account remains un-subscribed.
When i21 Freedom is launched will this behaviour change or will levelling pacts remain a VIP only feature?
((Ideally a Dev/Rep answer but if it's been mentioned before and I've missed it a link would be good too.)) -
Don't think anyone has found the other menus to see how the images are added. Or even if the other right click menus are coded the same way as the popmenu... I know I looked for a long time, I want to lose the short cut keys on all but the /menu menu.

If I slot the Force Feedback +Recharge into repel will it proc when the power is active or only when I actually knock someone away with it?
-
Is there a list anywhere that details what can be used and what can't?
-
Is it Ethical to uprate your friend's arcs without playing them simply because they are made by a friend?
Same question different perspective.
Besides with how many people farm AE (including myself) how is one person going to be able to down-rate anything enough to beat the farmers who uprate stuff? -
Quote:Most of the game content with the exception of iTrials (unless you're well iSlotted up already ofc) has become trivial with Incarnate Powers as it is. Yet you want to give people an easier to access method to acquire ultimate power?Sam and Gob: How are your pessimistic posts germane to the discussion of our characters having the opportunity to have multiple Alpha-class powers?
Your posts belong in a different sort of thread. Please restrict your discussions to the topic at hand.
Thanks!
While I do enjoy feeling god-like in even level content I'd prefer it not be the case across the board as you'd lose any sense of achievement.
I would prefer the alpha slot be changed so that the current four paths had more branches with more effects. As a well planned character shouldn't really need any of the current crop of enhancements. :/ -
Almost as legendary as the 'Sex change' suggestion...

Been playing around on my old Blaster updating her to a inherant fitness build. I'm mainly happy with what I have now, but freeing up those three power picks means a somewhat new build. Build below.
Some questions:
1)Force Feedback: Chance for +Recharge. Have I gone overboard with these? Been in the build since Inventions came out pretty much (Blaster was my main at that point) and I know their use has changed somewhat over the years since.
2)Not having an issue with end, have plenty of global recharge (81% without hasten) and my accuracy seems good. Which direction should I be looking for my alpha slot?
3)Generally is it worth building for Res or Def, I tend to stay at range (out of melee anyway).
4)Any glaring omissions or oddities?
5)Cash is an issue, I have all but recharge intensive pet IOs and the LotG +recharge on hand. Don't want to fork out for lots of new IOs.
Errors in following build:
TP Foe is supposed to be TP Friend, forgot to change it back.
Swap SS for Temp Invulnerability with a IO/HamiO for Res/End.

That is if I slot the Devastation Chance to Hold Proc, will it have a chance on each of the gun drone's attacks?
-
Bronze under 30 for KB prots, +6% Acc (Kismet), and the Steadfast Prot +Res/Def (global unique).
Silver 30-34 Kinetic Combat (sell for loads). (Chance of three parts dropping).
Gold at same level for the Kinetic Combat Triple (One part dropping, the 5th part chance for knockdown drops from bronze @ same level and is fairly worthless).
I tend to roll silver and bronze, only roll gold if my recipes are nearly full and still have 3k+ tickets left. -
Biggest issue I suspect you will have is endurance, all your toggles need slotting for it. And or body mastery ancillary, dark is very end heavy and SS isn't exactly light end wise.
You can cram in more knockdown protections (one without changing anything) which would mean you can drop acrobatics (saves end). Think the knock down prots are mag -4 while acrobatics is only -2. I read somewhere that you should be looking for about 8, I know on my SS/FA I have one and bosses/EBs/carnies do knock me down more than I'd like.
I also wouldn't try overly hard to get +regen, as a dark brute you have one of the best self heals in the game, hitting 2 mobs @50 will fill you up every 11s (or so).
I suspect that if money were no object I'd go for something like this:

Tried that as above takes me to a server list containing a single entry called Unnamed. Which errors out with Can't connect to DBserver.
Interestingly it also doesn't load it's settings from the current install. :/ -
How do you launch the game without using the launcher?
I know it used to be done with a command line switch -project eucoh (I think) e.g: D:\Games\CoH2\cityofheroes.exe -project eucoh, but since then the updater has changed and the servers have been merged... etc.
Is it still possible?
Tried the above before posting this and I get an error saying that the client cannot connect to the login server.
Reason I want to do this is to run a 2nd client with different settings to my main client... still need to work out how to merge a registry file in/out so that I can have 2 'separate' installs. :/
(Really hate game clients that keep most or their settings in the registry.)
Tried projects named:
coh
nacoh
Both allow me to login - take me to a server list with one server that I can't then connect to. eucoh doesn't get that far. -
I'm in a single user base, so I have more than 12 and rather than grouping by destination or utility I have grouped mine by frequency.
Down one side we have:
*AP/Galaxy (Useful for low level teams & so I can get to respec contact easily).
KR/Faultline (seldom used).
#Steel/Skyway (seldom used).
IP/Striga (both used for trial access).
Down the other:
*PI/Talos (most used destinations)
Founders/Bricks (seldom used).
Croatoa/PD (seldom used).
Hazard zones:
*Eden (for trial).
*Terra Volta (for trials).
*RWZ (for ship raids & some co-op teaming).
*Hollows/Perez
* = beacons I wouldn't want to be without.
# = Beacons I could live without but are useful.
The rest I only have as I have the space, in fact I have more space than beacons have loads of PD (for broken display) that are gated off and 'out of order'. -
Not sure if this has changed but back when they fist introduced being able to save costumes I had a play around with editing the costume saves and it was possible to make smaller/larger than the sliders allowed by changing values in those files. However I don't know (can't now recall) what my eventual findings were. :/
I'll go and have a look now my mind is thinking about it.
edit:
Seem to be able to get the smallest female body to be well under 4' tall. Though it is a bit finickety when loading into the character designer, that is some times when you load it the scales get reset to minimum slider scale, not absolute minimum. :/
The NPC is one of the girls in Icon in steel on the back wall.
Below are some oddities I found while experimenting:
-
TY for that not seen that particular snippet of information hence my questions.
-
Third account in that case...
Ideally I'd like to see them add an arbitary number of character slots per account (taken as base of 12/server for 15 servers (~180)) then allow these 'free' slots to be assigned to any server you choose, for me Defiant or the poster above to virtue. On top of these core slots you'd gain additional slots for all the current reasons eg Veteran (+1/year), Purchased, CoV (+4?), GR (+2), VIP (+12)... etc. But still be able to have all of these on a single server if you so desired.
As for the programming, as somebody else said the actual UI elements appear to support updating the amount of slots each server has access to. Though I'd expect the sticking point to be more about database issues than UI elements. (But I haven't seen any code so what do I know?) -
I wonder if people who bought CoV at launch (and until it became part of the core game) ought perhaps to get additional premium slots under Freedom...
-
When CoV 1st launched did it come with any character slots?
I seem to recall it did, but it was long ago and I don't have perfect memory. -
Working my way through an EM/Inv brute, currently at lvl15 and for the first time since I all but abandoned my MM before i8 I'm enjoying CoV again. However I've not played either set before (closest I've been was an Nrg/Nrg blaster in beta), I'm looking for good damage and survivability with min/maxing too much. I've looked at some guides and other builds but most builds are aimed at specific tasks or with specific goals in mind and most guides either were created before IOs or ignore them anyway.
So critique & suggestions on this build. Price is an object of course so other than LotG recharges I'll be sticking with easily available stuff for the most part, and few if any purples. Also ignoring Incarnates as I'll work that out once I get to that point.
Power picks at 41 & 44 are missing as I don't know what to take, I only have 1 slot free at that point (originally in Physical perfection). At first it was going to stealth & manoeuvres for LotG recharges, then I thought about the self heal from Medicine... But just don't know... :/
