Whilst I'm not aware of any transexuals or XGender supergheroes, it's entirely believeable that some have the ability to manifest however they wish (Phoenix. Scarlet Witch, Mystique, Proteus etc)
[/ QUOTE ]
It depends entirely if you stick to mainstream or not, I am an avid reader of The Whateley Academy Chronicles which do feature... wait consist of just that sort of hero/ine. (http://www.crystalhall.org/) (Caution: Has fiction that contains Transgender themes.)
[ QUOTE ]
Put it another way: Ever played a toon that is not the same sex as you?
[/ QUOTE ]
Luckily I only play characters that are the same gender as myself... -

But it doesn't need discussing here, this is a game where each of us can be who we want to be providing we don't breach the copyright of other IPs and refrain from being coarse. Being able to change the body type is no different from being able to shoot laser beams from our eyes or leap from tall buildings without dying.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agree on body type changes or not, I don't really care, but the rest is no more fitting for this forum than whether or not the stun effect makes you look like a spastic. That is my main bone of contention, and I'm not going to post any more about it here.
And apologies about the ulterior comment, perhaps I should have engaged brain before commenting on it.Or you know slept first...

"It's okay, guys, the game's falling apart, everything's buggy as hell, but it's fine, because I can make my male character grow [censored]! THAT'S what we needed."

So lets all stop suggesting anything until all the bugs are fixed? -

My girlfriend and I (sorry to disappoint certain people, but Stasis IS actually female. I have proof) disagree on a LOT of stuff.

No we don't.
And stop blowing my cover. Now how will I chat up busty Amazons?
[/ QUOTE ]
I did wonder. -
[ QUOTE ]
Would you please stop telling those of us that are skeptical of this idea that we have ulterior motives?
[/ QUOTE ]
I have read your replies, I happen to think you're wrong. Speaking as someone who not only knows several hundred people who suffer (or not) from issues that an result in a 'sex change', and who looks at one of those in the mirror when I can't avoid it. I really dislike the idea that, this shouldn't be in the game because it is a subject that is unfit for the consumption of minors, which is what you and others seem to be saying.
When in fact it is a subject that has no age related bearing at all, anyone of any age can suffer from it, it is a complicated mental health issue with a variety of sources that can grievously injure many people for long periods of time, some, perhaps many don't survive.
But it doesn't need discussing here, this is a game where each of us can be who we want to be providing we don't breach the copyright of other IPs and refrain from being coarse. Being able to change the body type is no different from being able to shoot laser beams from our eyes or leap from tall buildings without dying.
[ QUOTE ]
As for our arguments being for our "own gain", how strange. We can't sway the devs, we can simply state why we're unsure of the idea or simply do not want it - surely those of you who're arguing that it would be a good and useful change are (also) doing so for your own gain? You'd actually gain something from it, after all.
[/ QUOTE ]
It may be a bad idea, I don't personally think so, but there seems to be two things being said as to why its bad, one is that its bad because it would draw attention away from other improvements, which is fine go for it I understand that reason.
I don't understand why it is a 'mature' subject, I don't understand why it shouldn't be in the game because kids may not understand it or because they may be offended. Thats no more logical that any of the other debatable ethical aspects of the game, especially the bad side where all sorts of nasty stuff happens. On top of which with a 16 rating (voluntary true) its not like the game is primarily aimed at the younger end of the market anyway.
Do you have an ulterior motive? Yes of course you do or you wouldn't bother posting in this thread, I'd guess your motive is that you would rather time be spent on other issues. -
First: The game is not real life and there is no connection between real life issues that affect many people is quite horrible ways.
Second: How is a change from Male to Huge in anyway connected to any of the issues that some of you keep bringing up?
Third: The title of the the thread is wrong, this is not about 'sex change' it is about changing the in game character's body type.
Fourth: Asking for the thread to be moderated or locked, the continued fighting over whether or not Transgender issues or transvestism is mature/right/wrong/etc is not what this thread should be discussing.
I have personal issues here and I for one am fed up with the continued trivialisation of the whole subject. -
I'm still farming behemoths TBH, not found anything I like as much and its nice and simple.
No idea about real figures for inf/prestige/xp/etc as long as I get the odd purple and some nice salvage and the team I'm with are fun... -

I'm against this, it'd make the game too bizarre.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're playing a game where people can fly, teleport, fire energy beams from their hands, turn invisible, and perform moves like Head Splitter without actually killing the target.
And you think changing sex is too bizarre?
There's a HUGE number of quite valid reasons for being able to do this, most of which have been mentioned already. It doesn't hurt anyone, so why not?
[/ QUOTE ]
You're telling me, if Superman, or Spiderman got his bits swapped, and started sporting a pair of breasts, you WOULD'NT find that odd? Or bizarre?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well yes it would be a tad bizzar but then its no more bizzae than them chucking cars about and wall crawling
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really, that's part of the comic world, it's like mixing a western and a space film. Transgender ideas belong in a more indie kind of culture. Certain things are ordinary in certain cultures, but when you mix them, the results are odd. Like a monkey living underwater; people would be baffled!
[/ QUOTE ]
Except as several people have pointed out, you included, this isn't real life, changing your body type is not transvestism or transgenderism, its just changing your body type.
As for whether or not the issue is trivial I don't think anyone here, programmers included, knows exactly how the game works internally, it may just be a simple change or something that is horrendously complicated. Saying that the idea is not good based on how much work it might take to implement is pointless, we don't know. -
Debt - Has it become pointless? Yes.
Raise the debt cap (x2), remove all debt reduction bonuses (from IOs (or make it a six slot bonus not 2-3) and Temp powers), leave the introduction of debt till level 10. And double the amount of debt you get.
My solution. -

Due in part to the de-sync bug and the fact that I frequently play in a duo with either a much lower level character I would really like to get TP Friend in... however I can't figure out what to drop.
I'm also finding that having a good accurate 3D travel power is essential, CJ and IR just doesn't cut it if I have someone on follow, while fly in that situation would be perfect (or CJ & IR then TPing the follower to me when they get stuck). My real thoughts about fly was that I have seen others using it, yet I know that Hot Feet doesn't easily effect targets in the air, and it can't be activated while you are in the air. So is Fly more of a hindrance?
I could go the SS route but to be honest in all but the rarest circumstances I find that siphon power is much preferable (no suppression, recharge bonus and the debuff to the mob). -
I have yet to take fly on mine, but I have seen several Fire/Kins in the wild so to speak with Hover/Fly as the travel pool...
Is it effective?
Also if I went for power mastery what buffs in the Kin set are amplified by Power Boost? -
Been reporting this issue on and off since i7.
Found it on test (i12) didn't report because I had always been told it was due to my ISP/Connection (Zen and WiFi Mesh).
Happens to some characters badly as in every time I zone, other characters on same account don't get it at all.
Spoke to tech support who eventually said they had changed something on my accounts... and the problem is much less now than it was immediately after i12 release, however it still exists.
My thought is it is a software issue that in rare circumstances for some people causes the issue, it is compounded by set-ups/latency/routes to server etc. And the software issue is server side, it will be difficult to track down an exact cause because the devs only trouble shoot from within house, so they are not going to have the same set-ups/latency/routes to server that we do. -
[ QUOTE ]
This, I believe, is why it would be unlikely that controversial subjects like transgenderism, homosexuality etc. etc. are going to be covered to any great degree in a game rated suitable for younger people. Books and films, maybe - likely, in fact - but books and films are more likely to be educational than computer games; they have that loophole.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know about anyone else in this thread but I certainly don't want any real life issue of this depth covered in game. Not only as you point out is this the wrong medium but it also would trivialise the whole issue (issues).
However being able to change an animated character in a game, a character that already has little basis on reality anyway, how many people who can fly and shoot laser beams from their eyes do you know? In my opinion not only is this a non-issue it has no real bearing on any of the above issues.
My earlier post was more aimed at the apparent attitude that it is something that is only likely to affect mature people or adults. When in fact it has no basis on age at all.
So yes a body type changer. -
[ QUOTE ]
Was CoH an age 12 rated game? Or soemthing... anyway, i think because there could be players of a young age playing, the idea of trans-gender characters is a bit... well let's say it's more mature content. Does that sound reasonable to people?
[/ QUOTE ]
So kids aren't ever transgendered? Nice to know...
Oh wait what about that kid from Sheffield who recently killed himself mainly through lack of understanding on the part of those around him. He was 10. (Link to story.)
Sex change in game has zero to do with gender issues in the real world, I should know I have suffered with gender Dysphoria for most of my life. There are far worse memes in this game than something like this.
Personally I see no reason why some form of 'body type' change can't or shouldn't be implemented, a loing with the ability to change the height slider it would make some interesting character options available... not least as mentioned above size changes as a part of your back story (eg Hulk) or even if you want to grow up... -
[ QUOTE ]
take hover and love it its way better damage mitgation than tough.
[/ QUOTE ]
Does hot feet work while using hover though?
CJ would IMO be a better option, plus it has Immob protection. -
Done this twice and both times just pulled the healer away from Romulus, Healer does no damage so can be 'tanked' be anything that does damage. First time I kept the healer busy on my blaster for the whole fight. Key we found was not to taunt/gauntlet with an AoE at the start of the fight or the Healer becomes agroed to the tank with Romulous.
-
Would have thought that putting a launch system in the middle of a city would be a little hazardous. Might be better to move it to one of the islands off Talos or Peregrine...
-
Bugs an not the one that eats carrots.

While I might be looking toward having a 600 Million farming character I have yet to ever have anything like that amount of inf, mainly as farming is direly boring IMO. So this is my build, it is a beginners build. It has one Purple which I got as a drop, it has +chance for END which is also somewhat expensive but again it dropped for me. I can solo the 6man spawn of behemoths in the main farming map that I use, and I also am able to play the character as a controller. Currently I am levelling another identical character (already got the purple drop for her
because as a duo I can really rock through that map.
Getting a SB really makes it move quickly.
I have cinders in the build but if/when I get Pyroclastic Sarge to 50 I'll drop that altogether as now at 50 & 36 I seldom use it.
Only other expensive IO is the Karma Knockback resistance, which I got as a drop at about level 30, when I next respec that will be dropped into my tank as in a duo I always have ID to spam if facing any mobs that do lots of knockback.
The below build was put together on Mids as I can't get into the game to find out what I actually have slotted in everything: Tactics, Imps, Transferance all have sets slotted but I forget exactly what.

Straw Man argument?
Perhaps so but how do you argue with someone who will not actually respond to the original points?
I feel I earned a reward by doing things that were admittedly very simple, I feel it is then wrong just to grant that same reward to everyone who wants it without some cost to them be that monetary or by doing something in game to receive the same reward.
Instead of saying that I'm wrong you pick my thoughts and character apart.
1)Getting hold of the Pre-order version of CoV was no more difficult than doing a small amount of research, without evening needing to trawl through a vast number of sites to find hidden information. A list of pre-order retailers was present on the main City of Heroes/Villains website and I would think (don't remember now) that that page was linked to from the forums.
2)The difference between pre-order CoV and non-pre-order CoV was the addition of a small amount of code to the sign-up details, the actual package and contents didn't differ at all (I have both in-front of me one pre-order and one normal retail they are Identical, yet I have the special helmet on one account and not on the other). There was no difference in price between the two packs.
3)I have never said nor will that people who didn't pre-order the game should not have access to the special parts, I feel however because those of, mostly, who got the pre-order put a little more thought into buying the game than those who didn't, it should not be a case of just giving said items away.
4)The pre-order version of the game cost no more than a standard version of the game. However you did need to pre-order it. This from my understanding has two reasons, the first is to give retailers reason to stock a game, to make them want to get the game in so that people can buy it. And also so that publishers can see if a game is going to sell well. (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-order)
So rather than just reiterating your most recent points:
1)I'm whining.
2)I'm lucky.
3)My argument is worthless because you are right.
Perhaps you could explain why I am wrong?
The fact is those of us who pre-ordered the game thought ahead and pre-ordered a game on spec, we decided that we wanted to play a game before it was released and so went to order the game before hand, thus we were rewarded. People who didn't pre-order didn't get the reward because they did nothing special.
A lot of games (and other products) offer incentives for pre-order customers (World of Warcraft gave away free in game mini-pets), if those games and other products were sold with the clear thought in mind that the pre-order bonus items were going to be given away free in the future to all customers then surely there would be no point in giving them away as bonus items in the first place. If the bonus item we received was a 5% discount on the cost of the game would you now be calling for a 5% rebate for all players?
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...=Google+Search
For those people who came to the game too late to buy anything pre-order, I don't actually see how one costume piece that only a few people have is going to in anyway hurt your gaming experience any more than if you started playing WoW and had no access to the pre-order mini-pets. However there is no reason why the item cannot be added as a vet reward or sold in a addon pack, I still might not like it but it would at least be fair.
This game is not some kind of communist utopia, we are not equal. Some of us play more, some of us pay more, some of us are better at the game and hell some of us are better at talking or arguing a point. If you want everyone to be the same and have the same rewards regardless of actual work then you will quickly bring the game to the point where nothing is earned and everyone is identical. If that is what you genuinely think the game should be then I guess there really is nothing to be gained from arguing this subject. I genuinely believe that we all should earn our rewards even if that means I will never be able to be identical to my friends, my two accounts will never have the same vet rewards or costume items. -

No effort at all to buy over the internet rather than making a journey to a store that doesn't even have the product you want to buy. Plus what is more a lot of the internet retailers cost less than the high street retailers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, no effort - just luck that you can find a website which was doing the offer, or that you had a credit card for it.
[/ QUOTE ]
But at least I went out and looked, I didn't just whine that I should get the content for free because I'm too lazy or stupid to actually get the pre-order pack. After all it wasn't exactly hard to look at the main City Of Heroes/Villains site and pick from a list of pre-order retailers.
[ QUOTE ]
Drop that argument.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because you're right?
In a word no. You aren't right, you think that because I didn't spend money on something everyone else should have the same thing? I didn't spend any money to get my fifties, should everyone else get one for free? I wrote a book, perhaps not a very good one, but it cost me nothing to write, should everyone get one for free because it cost me no money? This isn't some communist utopia where everyone is equal, if you don't put the effort in, you shouldn't get the rewards. And when as you have pointed out the effort is so minimal I don't see why you are taking issue with putting effort in. Maybe you just want everything given to you on a platter.

You could pre-order online from a different country you know.

Which would have cost a staggering amount of money for a lot of people.
Ninja's bleating about "effort" is hilarious. There's no effort in hoping a store you can get to had the offer going on.

Simple this is different because.
1. Veteran rewards technically do cost money.
2. Veteran rewards do not solely depend upon you having a participating video game store in your country.
3. They have already given the helmets to any one with a 50 villian already.

Good vs. Evil pack came with some nice toys but as I already had both games I had to buy the addon pack. Should I just have sat on the forum and whined that I should get extra content for free? After all I already had both games, I had been playing since launch in the EU of both, why should I have to pay for something others got for free? -
Actually I sat at my desk and used the internet.
I don't understand why people think they should be given everything free just because they want it. If you don't take the time or make the effort why are you still deserving of the same rewards that people who did take the time or make the effort receive?
I don't come on here demanding a free nemesis staff that I don't have access to because since I started playing I have let my account lapse on several occasions. Why is this any different? I didn't put the effort into sticking with the game the whole of the time since EU Launch (when I started playing) I don't get the rewards of someone who does. -
Put TPs up two levels and put the beacons on the resulting step, with some ramps/desks you can then build a ramp up the resulting height, and still easily see the destinations.
