  1. Any chance of posting a build?

Literally just rolled a Dark/Fire to duo with a Sonic defender (though thinking of going FF for defence instead), came onto Tanker boards to see if anything was said... yay.

I can't afford a 500m build, nor am I ever likely to but seeing what slots others have might help me make mine right from the start. Especially as the last Dark anything I made I deleted at 27 due to end issues (Dark/Dark scrapper way back in i3/4).
  2. I'd be interested to know what someone who actually knows economies etc would say would happen to the in-game economy if the AH was changed to be more like a WoW system; eg:

When you list an item you list a bid price and a sell price. Bid price is handled from an auction perspective whereby anyone can place a bid higher than it and stand a chance of winning said item. Whereas when a sell price is paid the buyer immediatly buys the item. All items that sell at a single price would be stacked and you couldn't sell to an individual. Idea being that you can list items lower than what they're worth and still have a chance at getting a high price. For buyers you only buy the lowest priced item (if such is your wish) rather than being forced to up your bid manually and potentially pay over the odds.

Yeah but to what purpose? Bragging rights? I don't see it. I would much prefer newer challenges and yes gaining levels.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I play most of my fifties at 50, I fully plan on slotting them all, plus any more that get there, with lots of purples, why?

Because they make me more powerful which means I can take on more. I get bored on my fire/kins after a while, most mobs even on Invincible die too quickly, so I go off and play with the romans who are it has to be said generally damned hard for a controller with their AoE clear mind shouts... eventually my slotting will more than match them and I'll find my fun elsewhere.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
T2. 50 has been set as the max level and people are maxing as much as they can on their builds. With lvl 50 purples and other recipes. If the cap was raised it would make all the work in perfecting your character worth nill. And you would have to start again.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Why do people keep saying this?

Set IO bonuses or indeed the effectiveness of IOs does not change with level. While the devs may or may not add new sets with or without a level cap increase the current purple sets while perhaps not as good as future sets will not suddenly become worthless.
  5. Work round = Magic desks

    Hack = Vidiot Maps pack

    For example.

One is exploiting a bug and the other is exploiting the way the game works, and one will be removed from the existing forums though has no real harm to the game.

I'm not trying to suggest that you should use or talk about things that would break the game an instant levelling exploit for example. However freedom to talk about things that might get you banned just for talking about it is IMO essential.
  6. TBH While I would like a forum thread I'd look for a non-affiliated forum for things like this as then posting of work rounds or hacks won't get locked/removed. And while no-doubt places like Cold Front will continue to have such things a site that deals exclusively with player created content is IMO a far better idea...

Wouldnt it be possible to have a very small timer and two glowies which have to be clicked at same time at alternative ends of the map?
That way by having a very low timer and both clickies on other sides of the map, it would ALMOST force the team to split into two? Not sure if its possible but we already have low timers ingame (mayhem/safeguard missions) so cant see why not

    [/ QUOTE ]
Trying to avoid people just stealthing it TBH. Essentially the end boss is in a locked room. Route one is a fairly easy yomp through the mobs. And the other route has lots of doors each guarded by a plotted mob/mob-type. At end of 2nd route party must click a glowy that opens final door to route 1. it'd also open a door for them and both groups can now face end boss.

Heck not even sure it'd work with basic map editing, but without there is no chance.
  8. My SG is no longer just me as there are now a couple of friends with alts that they play in there, but it started off that way. I have a secure teleport room (5x5) A control room (with super computer), Power Room (generator plus two of the things that generate more power), Workshop (with storage and crafting stations), Medibay (two res things plus an Insp store). All but the big teleport bay were bought off the earning of just me and my alts. My main fire/kin has over a million prestige just from her. Got about 2 million prestige in total. Next big purchase will be a better generator, which I need a further 1.5 million prestige for.

Though after i13 it should all be doable.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Most maps have one or more "boss rooms" where your boss (AV etc) would be placed.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Which is great...

But what if you want to meet two AVs? Looking at the praetorian arcs that have two AVs in the mission, one will be in a set room the other spawns elsewhere.

TBH while I like the idea of the MA looking at what is being given I'm thinking its more a customizable mission generator and not actually anything special. Select Map (from a range), Select a Mob (or create your own), enter some text and get mugs to play it.

I have three arcs written that I want to create, each features standard mobs, standard tile sets (though being able to change lighting would be nice) but being unable to change spawn positions/types/quantities (except broadly) will make two of those arcs impossible to create without putting in stupidly short timers. Lack of map editing makes several missions impossible to create, while I never expected to get something that would work like the base creator for placing stuff I did expect some sort of map designer using similar code, placing each section of map like you would a room. Place spawns of pre-built/custom enemies in specific places for dramatic exposition. Looking at what is being offered I wonder if we can even have locked doors.

One mission I was planning would have required the team to be split, one half has one objective the other another. If you don't split up at the beginning of the mission you have no chance of succeeding due to a timer. But I'd need to place doors and mobs in one half of the map to make that work, a key bearing mob cannot spawn for one half of the team when they have no doors to open.

No as it stands on paper it isn't that great a tool. I am still waiting to see what actually arrives but if it really is what has been described it isn't anything special IMO.

I wasn't aware that farming was questionable content. I suspect that things to report will be more along the line of racial, sexist and morally questionable.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed, I think reporting a farm as inapropiate content is more likely to get the reporter suspended.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If done persistently. But yes, don't like an arc cos it's blatantly designed for farming? Thumbs down is as far as you can go I imagine, and then, you're just as likely to have someone who values that mission as an arc thumbs up it. Joys of democracy.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Don't like an arc that is for farming don't do it then.

OT: I rather hope that arcs that get played a lot get flagged as popular even if they don't get huge ratings.
  11. Tip on this mission is to clear the map (between Lady Grey's spawn and the chest) and leave the spawn around Lady Grey until last, then once she is rescued you can just lead her to the chest.
  12. Hell no.

I gave a SG member who doesn't have storage access because the system sucks, 9 or 10 crafted enhancements last night (we were in combat so trade wasn't too good an idea) and if I'd had to have click yes every time he wouldn't have got them.

There is a trade option that will allow you to send things securely, if not its your risk.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
I don't think you can log out in SG bases, you get booted back into your last zone.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You can log out in the SG base, you just can't login in the SG base.
  14. I wasn't aware that farming was questionable content. I suspect that things to report will be more along the line of racial, sexist and morally questionable. Farming seems to be, now that Mr Emert has left, a valid game play mechanic.

    Maps:
Maps appear to be stored on the server as plain text files that are a list of all the assets and their placement within a larger whole. Each map is made up of pre-made sections that fit together like a jigsaw. If anyone remembers CoV beta you will no doubt recall one or two maps that were borked and the sections ended up joined together at the wrong height or with the wrong rotation, either leaving you with sections you couldn't access or with holes that let you fall out of the map.

With that in mind I can see to an extent why map editing is not in from the start but IMO at any rate it is at least as important as character generation. If you write the perfect script for a mission it could well be let down by the same old generic cave map that everyone gets. Yes I understand that we have access to 1000s of existing maps but unless we want to write the same homogeneous missions that already exist in game or use the same 'unique' maps that everyone will have to use to try and have something different the uniqueness that we aspire to will not be there.

    Spawns:
While I can see that spawn placement is not going to happen, I hope there will be some system that will allow us to place unique mobs/NPCs/Items think of how easy a mission to kill/rescue/click would be if the notable thing was in the first room we came to. ALso if you want for story reasons two or more mob types within a single map, say council and devouring earth, I hope we will be able to put them into positions that actually have them fight (or appear to).
  15. Big teams I found spawned them quite a bit, I was also told that the spawn round the GMs, though as I was afk/dead for the first one we did and just dead for the 2nd one I couldn't say for sure.
  16. I have a character on Union that is in City Hall and has been logged out for nearly two years....
  17. I am awaiting this with baited breath, this just makes the wait look worth while.

Though I have to add, that I'd much prefer customizable maps over and above customizable mobs.

I know for a fact that the maps I have already got in mind for my own stories in general work within what already exists however some of my missions really need custom layouts to the maps. Tilesets are much less important IMO.

No ones asking for free merits. The game keeps track of story arcs in the form of souvenirs and TFs in the form of badges. I'm not sure if it keeps track of multiple attempts on the same TF but it wouldn't surprise me as datamining is a big part of the devs job. If we get awarded retroactive merits for the stuff we have already done then it would make the current crop of 50s happy, and indeed every existing alt of whatever level. The chances of getting the full amount of merits for every mission we have done is pretty slim, but it isn't that hard to get the game to count what you have already got via badges and completed story arc souvenirs.

    [/ QUOTE ]
But bear in mind that merit rewards will presumably replace, or at least be an alternative to, the existing "random recipe" TF reward.

So giving out bonus merits on the basis of logged TF runs at the start of the new system would be UNFAIR to people that hadn't done the TFs before - the old hands would effectively be being rewarded twice for past efforts, once originally when they (maybe) got the recipe, and again with the merrits.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually if you re-read what I said I said every 50 will be unable to get Merits off of Story Arcs they have already done and that that was slightly unfair, because in many cases there will be no way of doing those story arcs again, whereas a lowbie character when the issue hits will be able to do those story arcs. So getting merits awarded for previously completed story Arcs would be more fair. I have no real opinion on retroactive awarding for TF/SF/etc as they generally carry a separate reward. (Which before recipes was just an enhancement IIRC.)
  19. Or a Dark scrapper and run with the two fear powers out of the Presence Power Pool...

As for being in melee on a controller... play any of the ???/kin controllers and play in melee all the time.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
So what would you call fair? Free merrits for all 50s? Then the 49s will complain 50s get something and they don't, or the 40s will, or the 30s.

Seems to me that everyone starting with nothing and having to work for what they want is as level a playing field as you'll get.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you got on (first) login the correct level of merits for the amount of arcs you had done at that point it would be far fairer, though honestly I doubt that'd happen. Though whether or not the game tracks how many arcs you have done in the past I don't know...

And they one group that'd hit would be people who farmed their way to 50 and did few or no story arcs. But then they are probably the people who have the time and energy to farm merits on TFs anyway.
  21. Pyroclastic Flower and her twin sister Pyroclastic Sarge

With possible brief appearances from a pair of fire blasters.

And all my other characters now and then.
  22. Only people it is unfair to is people who are already at 50, as by then quite a few of the story arcs will have been done already, and you will be limited to TF/SF/etc and those Orubos arcs that are worth doing and not so low as to lose all but your best powers.

    Publishing Help!

Write in Word. Save as clean HTML.

Open in HTML editor of choice.

Save better version with decent markup in editor of choice.

Then save to some website (free from Geocities will do) and link here.

You get bes of both worlds, stories that are easy to read and space for people who are interested to comment. Plus you get to dictate 100% how the story looks, and ability to include images or media if you want. Personally I use my own web host and as many people get some web host space with their internet package that might be worth looking at. I, and many others here, can probably offer advice on the actual HTML section of the job...
  24. Link to Castle's Post might be handy.

However I think he's saying that there will be no Proliferation of power sets in i13/14.

TBH i13 has two new sets on three or four ATs (or more) thats enough for me, and i14 has the mission creator which I will be playing with far more than with any powers...

All who go to US are lost to EU.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Rubbish I know several who migrated to US servers and then came back. Hell one of them is American and hated the, in his words, 'idiot Americans', though admittedly he was slightly less polite. He started with US beta, moved to EU, moved back to US at the beginning of this year and is back in the land of the free (market) now.
