  1. One master account two sub accounts... Well thats how I read the OP.

    Either way, nope. :/

Would be nice if you could pass account bound stuff between accounts on one master account though.

    I don't have any friends...

Who needs friends when I have several VIP or Premium accounts, umpteen million prestige and two large bases (Red & Blue)?

    Wait... :/

    edit:
    Oh yeah and signed...
  3. I just want to make one point. I never asked nor suggested that the arc should be level 50 content. I'd be more than happy for it to be level 27+ content. And still exemp down for it.

20 for me is too low especially on a character that loses more than half her powers and most of her attack chain. I don't need telling how to play the game (nor do I want it). I PL most of my characters past that level to the point where I enjoy playing (around 28-32 FYI) and generally ignore the lower level TFs and arcs as I don't find them very enjoyable. Both through poor story telling, repetitious missions and not feeling super.
  4. I was going to make a long winded reply but heh... those who agree; agree and those who don't... don't.

Yes I could rebuild all my character who are more than level 20 to be effective at level 20. But for the sake of three missions? No chance, even if the following six arcs are for level 20s too.

If I decide to do a low level TF (note the TF) I am in the company of other people who help to make up the shortfalls in my own build. This is supposed to be a story arc (as in not a TF).

At 20 my level 40, dark/dark brute has no knock-back prot (slotted in CJ & first armour - both level 30 IOs) The pumicites even at 0/x3 (which I solo at normally) killed me twice in the second mission (I quit in disgust). I cannot heal while lying down.

It might not be money but it is certainly a currency.
  6. One of things I've been looking forward to as part of the i21 release are the Signature Story Arcs. However after actually trying them I'm far from impressed. Yes the so far unique maps might be great, the overall concept may be earth shatteringly amazing but why oh why do I have to be exemplared down to level 20 to experience it?

I can understand not wanting to trivialise this content so exemping me down a bit I could understand (or hell just making Incarnate powers not function) but by pushing me so far down my characters with few exceptions are gimped. Losing damaging powers, knock back protection and pets is non-trivial too and it makes the arc annoying rather than fun.

I just hope that the subsequent arcs aren't for such low level characters. Oh yeah and bearing in mind that Sutter at least boosts the powers of lowbies, there is nothing stopping that being used to artificially level 20s up to say 40, which IMO would result in a far better experience for everyone.
  7. I got the power for free.

Main account bought online for the EU launch (I'd ordered a CE copy from play.com but it wasn't going to arrive in time) when I got in game either the first time of EU live or at some subsequent point soon after I was awarded Power Slide. I still haven't bought a CE copy for my main account, my ordered CE came later and was used to create account no. 2.

Still waiting for the perk Bridger said EU beta testers would get though...

Oh yeah EU CE CoH came with, Comics (2 in one volume iirc), map, game, buddy code. PvP comic came with CoV along with a book of concept art, heroclix (which I lost) and the game. (Plus some other stuff I have no doubt forgotten.

I'm going to wait and see how bad it gets, but I for one think this is a backwards step.

The only way I will support any form of "rebirth" idea is if removes any and all functional powers from the character, accolades included and starts the character fresh and unpowered, same as any level 1. New Game ++ has no place in an MMO. There are ways to make your characters stronger without invoking the worst plot device in the history of story writing. Players shouldn't have to deliberately and intentionally kill their creations to make them stronger.
I think we might reach an impasse then. I made the suggestion based on what I want to see added. A way to recreate some existing characters because I no longer enjoy the way they play, or because the back story I have for them demands it.

Not sure why you think I need your support? Sure it'd be great if everyone loved the idea. And I'm quite interested in amending my idea to take into account other people's take on the idea.

But if you don't like the idea, and want nothing to do with the idea. Why bother even posting?

As for the whole thing about 'The Devs Say No'... So? Haven't they said no about other stuff that has been added? In fact something I asked for many issues ago was the ability to trade more than 9999inf at a time. Never going to happen. But it did and now I can send all my inf to any account I want. The fact is that the devs may have said they don't want AT respecs, but by spinning it in the right way they might turn round and say a respec with some limitations like having to level from scratch could be something we'll look at. And they may not. If I don't suggest they will never know what I want.

Why this isn't an AT respec?
Maybe it is, but in my mind an AT respec is a system that takes an existing character at whatever level, changes their basic details then remakes them as a new form at the level they were before. That is take an easy to level Brute and remake it to a hard to make Controller (not that I'm saying controllers are hard). Or take an easy to level powerset and then swap it out into a harder to level but more powerful set. Eg Willpower or Regen into a Stone.

This idea does indeed have something of that built-in, after all it is what I want to be able to do. But you must start from scratch with a handicap to do so. People who just want to level something up quickly to visit end game with ease on would be disappointed. Hence why the suggestion is reincarnation or rebirth. This is not a simple respec.

    Buffs?
I'm unsure on my feelings on these, I like the idea that by making in effect the ultimate sacrifice I have increased my power. At the same time I can see that they could be viewed as overpowered. Ideally they would be balanced so that they give a unique bonus dependant on the previous 'life'. My suggestions in the OP may not reflect that intention. They weren't intended to be game changers as much as a nifty idea that gives a tangible bonus for people willing put up with re levelling from 1 - 50.

Speed of Levelling Negates Need for Idea?
    Quote:
I absolutely disagree with the "Death gives you a buff." And disagree more with them stacking. Why? It takes 5 hours or so to get to 50, *without* exploits. The min/maxers would be *all over* this. A few hours - even "taking longer" each time - and getting PL'd each time for a fairly decent buff? Meanwhile penalizing those who are actually *happy* with their characters and DON'T want to go through this?
So because some people a)Level fast and b)would use the system it shouldn't be added?

    Another mechanic?
    Quote:
Now, setting it up as "Retire the character = the character is no longer accessible (IOs, etc. get sent to a bank or some such,) the name/badges are held for you to use with an *actual* reroll (with the caveat about accolades above,) and you get a 20-25% XP and INF boost from 1-22 (since your "retired" character is "mentoring" the new one,)" or something similar to that... ok. It'd let you keep a few things and give a *reasonable* boost to get them off the ground sooner without being overpowered.
I like this, I do prefer my interpretation (who'd have guessed it?). But this would certainly work for me. Though not sure which caveats you are talking about for the accolades. Losing all of them plus the pre-requisites, or having them unlock once you hit an appropriate level? Personally I'd say gain them all back at fifty.

    Final thoughts: (for this post)
On Buffs, I primarily added them because that is what the system I'm familiar with in DDO does. And I have to say in all honesty I would certainly add them myself. But I can see why people dislike the idea.

I've always been a fan of these ideas, myself. As long as the player has to re-earn everything that makes the character strong, then I have no problem with people keeping their badges, titles, SG standing and whatnot. The one caveat I make, however, is accolade badges. If you do this, you have to either lose ALL accolade prerequisite badges, or have them renamed and the originals taken away. Point is, if you want to reroll but keep your badges, you'd still lose your accolades. Nothing functional can cross over with you. Only cosmetics and no-effect collectables.
I disagree with the idea you'd lose everything of physical value. The purpose of the 'rebirth' at least from my point of view is twofold. One you get to remake an existing character without losing the character's history. And secondly you're increasing the overall power of the character. Hence why it takes longer to level each rebirth, hence why you gain a buff linked to a previous life.

I suspect that your version is basically a reroll keeping badges, where as mine is an empowerment through death. Not saying you're wrong or that if your version was the only option I wouldn't use it, just it isn't what I'm aiming for in my suggestion.

    Just saying.
This and within the bounds of what I suggested you keep your badges .: you keep your accolades. If they don't reactivate until 21/40/whatever then they don't.

  14. Someone suggested that I post an idea I posted in a thread about respeccing primary/secondary sets (and ATs). This is said post.

I'm not going to go into detail as to how this would be spun in game (eg Lore) because I don't know how it'd fit.

In DDO (where I first came across the idea) there is a mechanism that allows a capped character to do in effect a respec that allows them to change their class (AT). This system is called True Reincarnation. It functions as a purchasable (or I think earnable in game) item that when handed in to an NPC you are allowed to shuffle off your mortal coil and in effect start the character from scratch. There are some details that don't change, the character name and gender remain the same. (details).

Now I'm not advocating a like for like game mechanic in City of Heroes, as what we have now works for most people, you can respec now. However for some charatcers you cannot become more than you once were because the game has changed (and hopefully will continue changing) meaning that charatcers built for one purpose may perhaps no longer fullfil that purpose.

Or perhaps it is merely a story that you want to follow for your character currently you'd have to re-roll to change your AT and the new character would no longer have a connection with the older version.

So add a Rebirth system into CoH.

    What would this entail:
At level 50 you would somehow earn the ability to Rebirth as a new person. You would lose all your existing powers, your very being would wiped clean and you would gain the ability to re-level the character from scratch.

Why would this be different from re-rolling?
When you delete a character you lose everything attached that is badges, costume parts, titles... etc. Rebirth would let you keep every non-physical part of the old character. You'd also keep any enhancements (or perhaps just a tray full), Inf, SG membership & Prestige, salvage, recipes, etc.

    So basically you lose:
    49 Levels
Incarnate Slots (but not the abilities).

    Take me through the idea:
Do the event, hand in... whatever.
Then you get taken into the character creator (as if you were starting a new character. You can pick anything you would normally have access to. You won't be able to change origin. Once you're finished you enter the game as normal.
Levelling as a re-birthed character would be slower, because each level of rebirth takes twice as long as the previous. That is when you rebirth the first time it takes twice as much XP to get back to 50. If you then rebirth again, it would take three times as long.
Once you regain level 50 you gain a buff that is linked to your previous class, which would confer some benefit to the current one. These buffs would be less impressive than Incarnate level buffs but more impressive than those associated with accolades. Would not be lost through exemplaring and you'd keep subsequent buffs the next time you rebirthed. That is:
If you start as a controller, then rebirth into a tank. The tank would gain a buff called Controller's Buff once it hits fifty. If the tank then rebirthed, while levelling to fifty in the next AT he'd keep the Controller's Buff. Once he hit 50 (for the third time) he'd gain a Tank's Buff in addition to the Controller's buff.

In general you'd gain a title dependant on the previous class (if you want to use it), a badge for each rebirth to a new AT and an accolade for all normal ATs and another for all epic archetypes.

I dare say there would be extra stuff added to the idea too. After all rebirthing more than once would soak up an impressive amount of time.

    Some further thoughts:
Incarnate abilities IMO should be dropped. That is when you rebirth you lose the physical slots but not the 'enhancements' that you slot into them. Once you hit 50 again you can re-earn the slots and then re-slot the abilities.
Incarnate Salvage - Shards. Should drop as they do now for all rebirthed characters. So you'd have a nice nest egg once you hit 50 with shards dropped as a lower level character.
Rebirth should be available for VIP & Premium players (and free players, but they would need to buy them, becoming premiums). But only VIP players could earn them in game.
Item (if that is what it becomes (rather than a trial reward) should be available in several forms and from several locations:
    1. Guaranteed drop of boss mob in a story arc/trial for VIP players. This item would be locked to the account that earns it.
    2. Extremely rare drop from any Lt or higher NPC in the game (not including AE ofc). Not listing in any of the reward tables for other drops. This item will drop for any player (with perhaps a slight skew toward VIP players). This item is trade-able in all normal ways including the auction system.
    3. Store bought item, again locked to account.

    Examples:
Lost Ninja was created way back in i3 as a replacement for my badly gimped Dark/Dark scrapper Grendel. She was Dark/Regen and because in those days Regen rocked at everything, I finally got her to fifty. But then over time as I found other characters I enjoyed more (noteably controllers and brutes) Lost Ninja slipped at the wayside and I virtually stopped playing her. With rebirth I'd start her anew as a Dark/EA (maybe) brute.

The aforementioned Grendel: Born as the daughter of one of the leaders or the Trolls. Grendel stole her father's name when he kicked her out of the house after she refused to deal Supradine for him. She spent many years on the streets dabbling in many shady things and was taught to use dark powers by circle mystics.
Then she was almost killed in a mediporter accident, the only sure method of keeping her alive was to merge her with a Nictus. Grendel the Warshade was born. (She's now a dark/dark tank. Oh how I wish rebirth had been in the game since i3.)

    Suggested Buffs: (unbalanced I know...)
Essence of Control (Controllers): All Mezzes have their magnitude raised by one.
Essence of Defence (Tanks): Adds 25% base HP.
Essence of Support (Defenders): Adds 15% bonus to all clicky support powers (eg not toggles).
Essence of Menagerie (Masterminds): Adds 25% bonus to HP, End & Damage for all summoned pets. (Actual pets not powers that are in effect pets).
Spider Essence (VEATS): Adds 10% end reduction to toggle powers.
Kheldian Essence (HEATS) Adds 10% end rdx & 10% Speed/Range Bonus to travel powers. (Doesn't stack with Spider essence.)

    Pros:
Allow build respecs to dump gimped powersets.
Allow build respecs to continue a story for a character you no longer enjoy.
Allow characters you don't want to delete due to their badges or other historical items to be remade as characters you want to play.
Money earned from the store for people who can't earn one in game, or are premium players.

    Cons:
Dev time implementing what would be a complicated system.
Balancing the rebirth buffs to be worthwhile but not OP could be a pain.
((I don't really see many, or I'd have thought my way round them before posting.))

It's the sort of system that some won't like, some won't use or only very seldom. While others will use it obsessively. Personally I'd use on several of my own characters even with the slow subsequent levelling.

    TL: DR
Sorry not wanting to be rude but if you can't be bother to read the whole post. I can't be bothered answering your replies.

    Freedom? Hardly

You know if you could bottle the GeekRage in this thread you could power most 3rd world countries for the next thousand (or so) years.

    In essence:

From i21 launch (after the head start). The game will come in two flavours.

City of Heroes Freedom and City of Heroes VIP

Frees and Premiums will be restricted to City of Heroes Freedom while VIPs will get the VIP game. They will share servers.

    End of story.

If you think that the restrictions are wrong, the suggestions forums is this way. Or you know vote with your feet and leave the game.

You don't get people to want something by restricting them from it. They just resent the restriction and leave if they have a choice.

Good luck getting people to become VIP just for forums access, especially with all the types of "grumpy old man" posts saying things like "deal with it" and "subscribe or GTFO".

    LOL
I'm done with this little argument.
They need to give at least some limited forum posting access for free players or they can kiss a lot of money goodbye.
Free Players - That is those that have never dropped any money in any form on the game should (and I'd guess will) have the ability to read the forums, but shouldn't have the ability to post spam - which you can be sure some would.
Premium Players - That is those that have made some form of investment into the game - Should have somewhere to post on the forums.

But even if they don't I doubt the devs will lose either much sleep or money over them not having the ability.

    Open mouth insert foot.

They don't plan on providing access to free players to a)Cut down on data overheads for people not paying for the game and b)To prevent people who have no reason to accept a ban from posting spam.

If you post <insert link to pancake enlargement> currently and get a ban you have wasted at least $15, plus whatever amount of previously paid fees. If you haven't paid anything for the game but gain access to the forums you get to post anything you want including <insert link to pancake enlargement> without the devs being able to punish you.

A section where premium players can post and chat with VIP players would be a good idea (IMO). A section just for premium players where VIPs cannot post is stupid. Yes some VIPs will slap premiums down, most won't and they would be the best people to help newbies among the premiums.

So although from the point of view of someone who already has GR this might not be worth much, for someone just starting to play the game it will be significant.

As for the issue itself, Freedom was designed deliberately to offer long time subscribers the option of dropping to Premium without losing much, while stiff providing value and exclusive content for VIP's. The more someone has invested in the game, the less VIP will offer over Premium. This gives veteran players the choice of continuing the subscription if they feel it's worth it, or dropping to Premium if they don't, as well as alternating between them.

If you feel that the subscription isn't worth the price, you have the choice of going Premium. If you don't want to go Premium then obviously the subscription has enough value for you. I can understand the wish to get more than you already get (it's only natural), but arguing that you're not getting enough value is only affirming that the devs have done a good job providing a smooth downgrade path for the subscription.
Just to pitnit Going Rogue is included in the VIP subscription.

And if you don't own it already and don't want to pay a sub you'll have to buy it ad-hoc... isn't that the whole point of Freedom?

Edited to add, I use this list (or previous versions of it) to find out if a name I cannot choose (for whatever reason) is banned, because several times now I have tried names that have been flagged by the character creator as unavailable (rather than already taken) that I have not been able to find any conflicts to (one doesn't appear on that list either).

Not sure about how to spin it in this game. Personally I'd take it as an in character reroll thing. Something I've done many times on characters that I don't care for eg:

Grendel was my first ever character Dark/Dark scrapper (i3, no stamina) impossible to complete a respec because in those days it was actually hard. Eventually I re-rolled as Dark/Regen and renamed her Lost Ninja. Kept the name and once I hit 50 made a WS called Grendel whose back story was that she got caught in a freak accident in the reactor and the only way to allow her to survive was to meld her with a Nictus (yeah I know it doesn't follow how WS are actually made... but...).

Nowadays Grendel is a Dark/Dark tank who will be re-rolled once more into a BS/Nrg Brute (thought I might splash out on a new back story).

Lost Ninja is my Dark/Regen, she's been at fifty since shortly before (IIRC) i5 (a long time anyway), and because I went off regen I hardly play her. Yet she is still my favourite character. If some mechanism was added to the game where I could reroll her without losing all her badges, costum unlocks... dare I say it history. I'd love to do so. Even if by doing so it takes me longer to level her back up to fifty.

Hell on some of my characters I'd do this just for the back story, never mind keeping stuff earned prior to their 'reincarnation'. Though ofc Incarnate Salvage should be kept...

But - and I want to make this clear - this is about rerolling an existing character keeping the history of a character )badges etc) and the re-levelling them from either level 1 or some low level. At an increased difficulty. Not re-rolling at 50 into another 50 which IMO is a bad idea however it is implemented.
  25. I would however like to see something that appears in DDO. Past Lives. So I could re-roll a character I no longer enjoy at 50, but keep all the unlocks on that character. That, is badges, costume parts things of that nature. And then have to level as a new class but gain a bonus linked to my old class. (Maybe only after hitting 50). In DDO it takes longer to level for each subsequent life, because after reincarnating you need more XP/level than before. Yet people do still 'reincarnate' many times.

If this were added my original main Lost Ninja would be re-rolled immediately as would one of my Fire/Kin controllers. And probably some others.
