    1. Solo an AV. Many people have done this, so it can be done, but does it need to be on a specific AT? Or build? Can it be done on a Defender? Or a crappy Blaster like mine? :

    2. Solo a GM. I remember a loooong time ago, Psygon solo'd Lucsa, I think it may have been on her Dark/Dark Defender, but I could be misremembering? Has anyone else done it? Or a different GM? Babbage or Jurassik for instance? Again, does it have to be a tanker?D

    [/ QUOTE ]
Do i3/i4 Regen scrappers count? I mainly soloed Lusca on my DM/Rgn back then, I also soloed pretty much all of the other GMs too.

Those are a few ideas off the bat, but what could you all come up with? What truly wacky thoughts pop into your head? What manic concepts have you actually done??

    [/ QUOTE ]
Only thin I really want to do now is more a test of my ingenuity as the actual game play is proven. I'd like to multibox an entire super team, but thats eight PCs and a better net connection neither of which I have at the moment.

At which point I would be soloing a lot of content.

weirdly Union seems to get active again about 3 or 4am and over the last couple of weeks I've had some great teams in the wee small hours of the morning (holidays are great).

but yes i agree having access to a wider variety of time zones is a must if there gonna do a full on CoH2 but its something i would like to see introduced regardless.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Its when eastern Europe is starting to come online.
  3. Better yet:

    /loc_set <x> <y> <z> "<name>" - Sets a location to the current map.

/loc_save - Saves to a text file as above.

Then add a receive map notes toggle into options somewhere so you can turn off team map notes, if its on you get notes from your team mates. Perhaps adding two levels of notes, one is SG based and the other team based.

People are getting so lazy in this game. What's the matter? Can't spend 2 minutes travelling to the PvP zone? You'd HATE WoW!

/unsigned. Get off your lazy bums and walk!

    [/ QUOTE ]
WoW lets you join PvP zones by talking to some dude, he's all "yeah that's chill wait here I'll teleport you" and then BAM, soon as there's an opening, you're in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And how do you GET to that dude, hmmm?

    [/ QUOTE ]
There is one in every major city, plus the ones actually at the entrance to the various BGs. And arena dudes in the various neutral cities. With a HS set to a nearby Inn you can get to a PvP bloke in virtually no time at all (needs a bit of forethought), and if the city if ina zone where you're levelling or grinding you can continue on doing your thing. (I used to play the markets while waiting for a BG place.)

    @Thread
IMO An item that can TP you to each zone based on a PvP accolade either near base portals or near the trainers (fixed location in each city zone). Plus a SG Base item which can be earned through a different method whilst in SG mode, to allow TP from the base. Means even those who don't belong to a SG, or a SG that doesn't provide PvP stuff in base (like mine) or just a poor SG who can't afford the right items yet. Can also access quick teleport items.

    Nothing serious I hope

Nah, buying a laptop, going to spend more time wandering than I do now and while playing that 'other' game I'll have less time to play with my other love.

Hopefully i14 will have enough PvE to keep me going... hopefully Architect won't be as dumbed down as I fear it will be... hopefully I can hit cap in WoW and not need to stay around grinding boring stuff to pay for my upkeep...

    Or maybe CoH2...

Well I'm in a hopeful sort of mood.

COH 2 would be good. Would we be able to transfer characters from COH/V?

Trouble is, keeping old characters is one advantage COH 2 has over DCUO or CO, but it could do a lot of damage to a new system.

(I couldn't sleep, and it seems like a question that is relevant to the original topic.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll answer this question with a question...

When NC released Lineage 2, did they allow character transfer from Lineage 1? The answer to that might provide a clue to the answer to the same question in a possible CoH2.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No idea however there is some kind of weird grandfathering thing for guildwars2 where your achievements in guild wars will give you something in guildwars2 but its not a strait character transfer.

I suppose the question is how close a sequel would be to the original.

Tho i still don't quite understand why MMOs need a sequel to my mind it seems a bit like a throw back to stand alone games.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think its based on how much of an upgrade you're giving the game. WoW1 WoW2 and WoW3 are functionally the same game but with major patches marking the change from 1-2 and 2-3. L1 & L2 are the same game but completely different stories and engines (if that makes sense), EQ1 & 2 IIRC are different stories and engines but share a name, long time since I looked at them to see if I wanted to play. DAoC & War are separate franchises but share a lot of the same game elements DAoC is the spiritual predecessor of WAR even though they don't share anything other than a similar PvP game & developer.

If NCNC are developing CoH2, how they make the move from CoH1 to CoH2 remains to be seen. It could be an entirely new game, with only the storyline/IP connecting the two, heck it might even keep that, it could just be another generic Super Hero game called CoH2 to link it to CoH1. It could be as I have said before that its CoH1 with something of an upgrade which they are re-releasing as CoH2 so they can restart everyone's levelling process and incidentally change the servers at the same time. Moving to a shard-less design would be all but impossible for instance if 90% of the player population lost their character's name, making the game CoH2 and wiping the servers would solve that especially if it were linked into a major game upgrade.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I know it is... What I don't know though, is whether you could transfer your chars to l2...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Different game, different developers and I'd imagine a different reason for developing CoH2. And until we know if CoH1 will remain active I'd guess that the question will be impossible to answer.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I'd hope for an avatar transfer - wouldn't want to lose the badges

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'd like avatar transfer, but I'd suggest that badges transferred are limited to Historical badges eg: Anniversary Badges, and those connected to specific events in CoH1's history.

If you add the 550+ badges that are in CoH1 to characters who start CoH2, people who never had the chance to play CoH1 or didn't know about it will be at a huge disadvantage to those who did which will cause resentment. If the difference is 3-10 badges then there will always be the illusion of the possibility of catching up. (Or if some badges are only earnable if you didn't play CoH1 perhaps it will be actually achievable...)

so I'll get on killing orcs 'n' stuff

    [/ QUOTE ]

Come to WAR and do the same

    [/ QUOTE ]
Invested time in WoW and by the sound of WAR you get rather thrust into PvP whereas in WoW I can choose if and when...

Besides I played DAoC which was IIRC its spiritual predecessor and wasn't a fan.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
See you soon, but don't be suprised if issue 14 is sooner than you think...

    [/ QUOTE ]
I hope it is, TBH the lack of new PvE in i13 left me bored quicker than I'd have liked, I'm really looking forward to i14, so I'll get on killing orcs 'n' stuff and then be back when i14 gets here.
  11. Due to real world issues and WoW I'm off from Jan 10th till whenever i14 arrives.

So long and thanks for all the turnips, to paraphrase some fishy mammals.

PM system still works when I'm not around (no idea why) so if you need me for something Jan 10th onwards drop me a line there, I will most likely carry on reading these boards.
  12. To relax more... and with that in mind they're all going on holiday for a few months.... its not like the villains will be going anywhere will they?
  13. 100% Agree, have several Duos that would benefit from this and allow me to solo them in TFs or when our team is full I could drop one out so we can get another 'real' player in, or when in teams each is SK'd to a different level.

Every day is the start of a new year, this fairly arbitrary celebration to extend the boozing of Christmas is just another pointless thing!

And no I haven't been invited to any parties.

Why does everybody enjoy disagreeing so much, in these forums.if u dont like the idea,u dont like it, but if u like it,why does nobody think of ways, it could work.Everybody seems to get off pointing out ways it could NOT work.thats pointless.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Seems pretty clear to me what you said.
  16. Sorry I was trying to make it clear to the troll I replied to that I still play WoW and know how it works, not how 'leet' I am at it...

I play WoW because I enjoy the game, just as I play CoH because I enjoy the game. Hit 75 a week or so ago and have spent most of he intervening week playing around old world instances, doinga bit of PvP, and generally enjoying myself. Something I take from CoH to WoW is its not how fast I get to the cap its how much I enjoy the journey.

And for the whole MMO thing or lack of it, the WoW world is far better populated because mostly you aren't in instances. But its much harder to play with a friend or two if you want to get anywhere you solo, which IMO is the reverse of what a MMO should be doing. Was questing in Zul-Drak last night and there must have been five or six other people who were doing the same quests, but none were in teams they were all solo and uninterested in teams (I asked), because due to the way the looting/drops system works its faster and easier for the most part to solo.

WoW's casual play will never match up to CoH's so long as the population of WoW servers swaggers about in Raid gear crowing about the latest stunning item they got from some instance. Casual gamers cannot get this stuff, because they don't have an couple of hours to kill doing raids.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sadly the vast proportion of WoW isn't even an MMO IMO, you are actively discouraged from grouping, both by insanely low drop rates and losing XP in small teams. With no in game mechanic to balance out disparate teams (SK is the best game mechanic I have ever seen). Until you hit what ever the cap is this year and start gearing up its very hard to find a good team most of the time. CoH wins hands down over that IMO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAH. What a bunch of [censored]. You probably played WoW in 2005 and never touched it again.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Say that to my level 75 Hunter and level 67 Death Knight... hell try playing the game yourself and it would be evident to you that WoW is a single player until you hit the cap with every game mechanic aimed at grouping hideously borked. Try doing 90% of the quests in a small team, a dynamic that works well in CoH, in WoW a)You are grinding in the open so other teams can kill the same mobs, b)Even when you kill the mob the drop rate isn't often 100% and c)Even if it is a 100% drop rate its really unlikely that the drop will drop for every member of the team. I duo a lot in CoH, it does slow the levelling down a bit. In WoW duoing means half XP, that is I get half what I would get in Solo play, which is stupid for a MMO.

Even forcing Group quests onto you just means you leave them for a few levels and come back when you're a higher level. Only dungeon quests encourage teaming and because so much of the WoW population knows zero about effective teams the PuGs on WoW makes CoH PuGs (even the worst) look like laugh a minute joy fests.

As for the PvP, I loved PvP in WoW right up to release of TBC, since then I haven't got round to doing any BGs and only a small amount of World PvP in Northrend, which I have enjoyed. When I hit 80 I don't doubt I will do some more PvP especially as my guild does Raid and PvP gear helps gear up for end game instances. Plus getting tokens for a Black Mechano Strider is a hell of a lot easier than grinding Rune Cloth.

    Edit:
To qualify my lack of PvP since TBC its like this: I didn't hit 60 till after the TBC release, I then played until I had hit 70 without PvPing and started raiding with my guild, but was getting bored of the game so stopped playing. I came back once LK had come out and have been mainly levelling since then. I don't much enjoy WSG I'm tactical player and WSG is more about speed. I've played IRO 100 Arathi Basin matches and in all but a few the Horde killed us... still a lot of fun. As for AV I'd only just hit the required level when TBC came out so never experienced it.

For this game, CoH, the easiest and IMO best option is to throw out PvP and start from scratch and use lessons learned from this and other games to make it right. PvP in CoH cannot IMO be fixed, its too broken. A fresh start is a must. And from the start have tangible rewards throughout the PvP progression, I'm less interested in built in match systems, but having a CM who can initiate a leader board or ladder each year to find the best PvPers would be interesting if not essential.

So yes I play WoW, I have an active subscription now. I have had a few long breaks its true, but then I have had long breaks from CoH also. I started playing with EU launch of CoH (played in EU beta too), yet I'm only upto 24 months or something. I forget how many months I have actually been playing WoW, and my longest break was something like nine months (great fro earning rested XP though ).
  18. If you don't want people to disagree with your ideas don't post them on a discussion board.
  19. Get good PvE game.

    Add poor implementation of PvP

Spend too much time fixing PvE game so that PvP works.

Result a game where not enough is done to make the PvE experience perfect and a poorly implemented PvP system.

You cannot fix PvP in CoH1, even if you remove all the chnages in i13 and return to i12 values, PvP still isn't working as well as it should, yes perhaps more people like PvP with the old values, but it doesn't fix the underlying issues that its very difficult to do PvP without a good build.

CoH is a game that is aimed at the casual gamer, the old and indeed new implementation of PvP is not easily accessible to that same casual gamer. Until it is then PvP isn't going to be right and the devs will spend more time trying to make it fit that bill.

Only solution is to start from scratch and build a PvE/P game from the ground up. Whether or not that will happen is anyones guess, personally I think it will come with CoH2 whenever that arrives.

The lawsuit is pretty much standard patent infringement litigation language. No real surprises in it. And at least they aren't claiming wilfull infringement, which means treble damages and attorneys fees.

The original parent patent application, which determines what is prior art, was filed in 1996. That does pre-date the modern MMORPG.

This is how patents work. The first one in the queue gets broad coverage, and everything afterwards is considered an improvement on it.

What one cannot tell from just reading the patent is what the applicant said to the Patent Office to get it approved...that is available to the public, and it limits the breadth of the patent's coverage.

The patent is presumed valid unless NCSoft can prove otherwise, and that is hard. This should be a very expensive battle, and could cost millions of dollars to defend. The typical response is to pay a royalty to make them go away.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If what they say is true, then this whole 'prior art' argument doesn't matter anyway. The original patent pre-dates the modern mmorpg so they are perfectly with their rights to sue. To be honest i'd rather they didnt and i hope NCsoft win but i can see this happening alot more in the future, with everyone losing money some people are going to be on the lookout for anything that could bring them an income.

    [/ QUOTE ]
All NCSoft need to do is find someone who commercially used the patented idea before it was patented. Hence Prior Art, if thats valid. Personally I'd imagine they will either fight and get support from other big name MMO publishers, as if they capitulate all of them will lose out, or they'll come to some sort of licensing deal.

I really doubt it will make any difference to us the user in any way shape or form.

They were responsible for crippling early development of windows OSes, and, along with IBM, are therefore responsible for the uber-power that is Microsoft. And yet, while Apple claim to be the lords of freedom in a world of Windows, their systems are more restrictive and more proprietary than Wintel systems are. Sorry, for off-topic rant.)

  23. Ah quick question, might be known, for Fusion Generator you need to spend 50 hours in PvP zones, if two characters spend time in PvP zones, is that 25 hours each? (Or fifty characters at once earn it in an hour?).
  24. Remove it from Badge all together, I run two Fire/Kins, together they heal about 800HP per use of their heal, there are other healers in the SG who heal in SG mode yet at current rate I won't get first badge until sometime in 2011.

Add an inspiration selling/making item that anyone can buy, leave the autodoc thing for base raids if they ever come back. The simple version powers down when the base is being raided. Simple as.
  25. Was thinking more along the lines of the various doors you enter through in missions, but those mystic arches would look awesome as well, better than the weird pink glowy thing now at any rate.

Hell all they need to add is a click box that you can position anywhere in the base (it'd sit over items) which works like a TP now, and you can add beacons to the click box. Lets you turn any item into a TP control... anyone for an old boot?
