After much experimentation including a spare graphics card it turns out the PSU was at fault.
Wish I'd found that out before I reinstalled windows. -
I just get Unknown command when I use it.
-
Just started triple boxing a trio of near identical Grav/Rad controllers. All named Heavy Illumination. Through use of IIl and llI which in the in game font looks like Ill...
Anyway was about to ding 15 and decided to do it with a bang and used my Self Destruct on a group of mobs in Steel Canyon. They die and the NPC that they had been threatening runs up and says: "I want my children to grow up just like you..." to a row of non-existent corpses (I didn't ding off the mob
).
Then a little later another rescued NPC tells me that I'm one of a kind, conveniently ignoring the other two of a kind standing (floating I have hover now) right next to me. I sometimes really love this game. -

if you're going to go with such a low limit why bother having storage at all
[/ QUOTE ]
Because one of the initial points of this was that you shouldn't need to have a solo SG just to have some cupboard space. If you have a PEAR with some toon level only storage, that fixes that issue specifically. If however what you want is a fascility to transfer items between toons without an sg or willing lackey then that is a seperate issue. Account wide storage, and its associated "object" (table, cupboard or wormhole), might only be necessary to serve as a way of transfering between toons, not as a permanent storage medium, if toon level storage is already available in your PEAR and your happy with that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think it is a separate issue TBH, what precisely extra do we need in the way of storage that you can't access already outside of a SG? Salvage will go into a vault and everything else can be either stored on your character or in the AH. So why would personal 'bases' need any storage? Unless of course you're going to use it to transfer between characters.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Should be at minimum the same amount of storage a capped level 50 has at base
[/ QUOTE ]
umm... Please explain, what cap is that? You mean the salvage cap? or the 10 enhancement limit on each toon for storage? Or the maximum amount of storage i can hold in my solo base? That would be a lot, and the same amount of storage that any base has, which i have stated i dont want to emulate as i dont want to see sg base functionality undermined. Apologies for being dim/slow if i've missed something obvious here. its quite possible.
[/ QUOTE ]
By cap I meant the total amount of storage a level 50 can achieve outside of a SG. So 50+ Salvage, 20+ Inspirations. And as said ten Enhancements. Personally I'd go with 30-60 salvage, 20-30 inspirations and 10-20 enhancements.

[ QUOTE ]
I can think of nothing worse than having to swap back and forwards to transfer stuff from character to character because the storage cannot contain enough to be useful
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm only playing with the possibilities, its not a necessity for account wide storage to be substantial if your toon level storage is sufficient, and yes i am suggesting they be seperate and distinct. I'm not bothered if account wide storage is so low in space that it can only be used to transfer a few items a time. It depends what its focus is, is it to be "storage" proper, or just a means of transfering, and currently we are both hoping for personal storage of any sort to be possible. To me its better than handing over stuff i've spent hours earning to a complete stranger on the internet who i've never met in real life as a solution. Since when is that good advice? But thats the only alternative to owning an sg at the moment. Luckily for me i have finally persuaded my gf to play as well, so thats one nightmare over. Anything is better to the only two existing solutions at the moment imo.
[/ QUOTE ]
No I agree, but if you set the account wide storage too low, which I felt you were suggesting, you end up with it not actually being especially useful. In the old days you used to be able to trade inf between characters. But with a maximum value of (iirc) 99,999 per trade. So the ability was there but it was so pitiful it wasn't worth being there.
[ QUOTE ]
I'd be happy with your version too i think probably, but i dont see it as a bad thing to have limited account wide storage if you also have seperate toon level storage in your PEAR.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think rather than quibble over the idea which I am quite happy with, I'm quibbling over how limited you think the limit should be.
[ QUOTE ]
i think we both agree there need to be limits on that storage, account wide or not,for me the reason for the limits is that i would like to ensure that bases are superior in every way in functionality. I'm not going to assume your reasons are the same.
[/ QUOTE ]
My base at the moment has 6 salvage storage racks (used to have 9), so straight off I have more storage than anything like I am suggesting. On top of which my base has a medical bay so I can go there instead of the hospital, teleports to nearly all the zones. Enhancement storage so I can store 200 enhancements and crafting gizmo's for short term buffs and enhancements And I can store inspirations.
I really don't think that player 'housing' will in any real way detract from any but the most basic of bases. And I suspect that the most basic of bases now are going to be for those people who are using them as 'housing'. -
Could have sworn I had seen one of these in the past, was it my imagination or just inability to find?
-
Looking at your build my suggestions. (Yes I know my tank is low but I have played Dark/Dark before as a scrapper.)
1)Personally I wouldn't six slot any of my armours. You'd be better off dropping some slots and powers and taking fighting pool. You end up with higher defence/resistance than fully slotting everything.
2)Ditch Shadow Maul, put the slots into either of the ST attacks (or as above).
3)Drop three slots from CoD, 1x Def/End 1x (something with End & 1x Knockback Protection
4)Assuming you can afford them put a LotG 7.5 in Combat Jumping and Weave if you take the fighting Pool.
5)I'd take Dark Consumption much earlier @35, fully slot it and use it more often rather than trying to slot for end or recovery. DC is one of the best end recovery powers in the game, taking it at fifty is far too late. Fully slot with Efficacy Adapter and you get some nice bonuses too.
6)Soul Drain and Touch of Fear should both get five slots.
7)Ditch Acrobatics, it is far easier to slot for Knockback Protection and saves you a power pick.
8)Drop a slot (or even two) from Conserve Power, try and fit Hasten in instead of maybe acrobatics. Dumping slots into hasten will do far more for overall ability than adding a fourth recharge into Conserve Power. (3 <-> 4 slots ~8s / Hasten with 2 slots will give nearly a minute less recharge, as you won't be able to perma hasten with out a lot more recharge, clicking both powers at the same time will mean that CP has full benefit of hastens recharge bonus).
Have a look at some of the trade off in my build above. I fully accept that its not a perfect build and that your build will be in part down to how you play but looking at my Totals for self and comparing them to yours. I have a higher average defence and resistance. And while my end use is more than double yours, my recovery is better plus I have a well slotted end recovery power with easy access.
All I need now are some teams to level the damn thing with.
Good luck with what ever you decide. -
My Dark/Dark Tank is currently only 23, but this is the rough final build I'm working toward.

Health will get 2x Health Uniques, Combat Jumping and Cloak of Darkness will both get a LotG 7.5. As will Weave if I can afford a whole set.
Could drop a slot from OG, but like the set bonus too much.If I did I'd drop an Acc/Stun from another set in instead.

Actually I have a question about Telekinesis too: (Well a few anyway...)
How does the Hold component work?
Does it stack with normal holds?
Does it only stack with other Telekinesis applications (eg from another character)?
What magnitude is the hold?
Reason I ask is I run a mind/rad duo, both have telekinesis, but when both have it active on the same mob the results are not always as I'd expect them to be. -
I have the weapons mastery one on my Claws/WP because I like the targeting drone effect...
But I have no end issues on her.

AH = Auction House.
Easier than trying with Wentworths or whatever the hell its called red side.
And I do disagree with such severe limits, if you're going to go with such a low limit why bother having storage at all? Should be at minimum the same amount of storage a capped level 50 has at base, IMO. I can think of nothing worse than having to swap back and forwards to transfer stuff from character to character because the storage cannot contain enough to be useful. Or make your figures the base that everyone gets and additional storage can be earned. -
[ QUOTE ]
I know some players have definite views on storage not being account wide, but other games do this (eg, Guildwars "Xunlai chest" I think?), and it breaks the game, or disillusions newby players not one iota.
[/ QUOTE ]
The difference being that allowing people to share stuff account wide with no restrictions like GW would quite likely break the AH.
And before you start moaning at me for not understanding perhaps you should look at the post you referenced in the OP, and my other replies in this thread.
I want account wide storage, but I think sensible limits should be used rather than just using a Xunlai Chest thing! -
I tied a noose around... wait tech support.
Have a basic PC (Amd 2500+ / 5900 FX (AGP) / 1Gb RAM / XP pro SP2), It normally runs a single CoH client with zero issue. Lately though it seems to hang for no obvious reason.
Checked:
1)Heat - three fans in the case and according to Motherboard Monitor the case ony gets up to 40c on very hot days or when sun is shining on PC (its in a window). But hang happens at times like now when sun isn't even up...
2)Drivers - I have the latest 175.16 Nvidia drivers, they work fine on my main PC (considerably better PC), and generally they seem to work fine.
3)Software - PC is running XP Pro SP2 (can't use SP3 as some of the drivers I need won't work) critical updates are done but most of the rest aren't. No sound installed (media device is disabled in bios). Software running in .net 1, 2, 3.5 (Hero Stats is occasionally used) Octopus (key rebroadcaster) and my keyboard drivers (Nostromo n52). All of which runs on my main PC (and laptop).
What happens is simple my PC hangs, no input excepted and only reset switch works. Occasionally it happens while playing but more often happens when I get to the character select screen. The textures on the character doesn't work properly and body parts are missing. But this doesn't happen all the time. Occasionally it aslo hangs with any games loaded when its sitting at the desk top.
So could it be that my graphics card is dying? It works fine for other games (WoW & GW) and sometimes the hang is when there is nothing intensive happening. Or could it be the PSU?
Or something else? -

I am not that fond of strangers visiting my base.. I would love to be able to use my base as MA map though...
[/ QUOTE ]
If you switch off public visiting that would work. Or have only teams with you in/as leader... same as now.
Though yeah using a base in MA would be fun. -
[ QUOTE ]
I know some players have definite views on storage not being account wide, but other games do this (eg, Guildwars "Xunlai chest" I think?), and it breaks the game, or disillusions newby players not one iota. I dont see why its game breaking, when people swap inf, enhancements and salvage all the time already, really, they do, and are not likely to ever stop. I wouldn't want to overshadow sg storage, so in the interests of preserving sg base superiority, and "object creep" is never good for a games performance, account wide storage should be limited, severley, if implemented. I suppose one compromise is to allow a maximum of 10 items(maybe less even), plus inf transfers to be account wide stored. That way you would most likely only ever use account wide storage to transfer items between your heroes, or villains, exclusively. That space would not be sufficient to serve as a permanent storage space for all toons.
[/ QUOTE ]
On the other hand GW has only one faction and all the servers are effectively the same one. I think whatever restrictions are currently enforced re transferring stuff from place to place should remain, though I'd prefer to see it as software hack in the sense that all the characters on one account share a single 'house' but villains can only access stuff stored by other villains etc. Server wise shouldn't matter as much because the servers have a shared economy anyway. -
IMO Ditch Focussed Accuracy and look for +ToHit/+ACC in sets. FA with three HO (33% End / 33% ToHit / 33% DefBuff (Membrane Exposure)) even then that's 0.4/s end usage which is pretty high.
Put in context it's about double the base end cost of any single shield.
-
KB works as advertised on Telekinetically held mobs from my experience. I use Levitate on my Mind/Rad and it will knockup mobs that are being held with Telekinesis. Its quite useful if they get stuck on a small protrusion before you can get them into a corner.

[ QUOTE ]
The game is set to a "comic book" feel, speech and thaught bubbles are set there to stay. if they wanted real voice acting and/or players to speak they would have implemented that at the start of the game.
Besides, trying to configure the game to add speech in will be really difficult to start with.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think that's what he is asking for TBH. I suspect he wants to use the Text To Speech service that comes with windows for those people who either cannot see or cannot read (though I'm not saying that the OP is either). You can code web sites to have a screen reader version of the text, normally using CSS. It wouldn't be impossible to add the required tags to the game text based on the fact that it seems to use a form of simple HTML already.
True it would be a lot of work for a purpose that wouldn't actually make the game easier for minorities to use, but it is a possibility. -
[ QUOTE ]
I know NCsoft can't afford this what with new competition and getting sued twice and everything but I like the system in eve online where you can earn game time in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure why getting sued would have any impact on GTC. Reason they won't add GTC to CoH is because Inf is stupidly easy to make in CoH. And GTCs are bought at some point, just not by you. I know because I funded some of my characters in EVE through GTC sales, which meant I shopped around for the cheapest GTC (Shattered Crystal at the time what with $ -> £ conversion rates) and then sold them through both the normal EVE forums and my Corp forums.
But as I said its not a system that would work in CoH, or if it did the pricees for a 30 day GTC would be 1,000,000,000 or more inf which most couldn't afford or your entire gaming experience would be grinding for Inf.
I also know people who setup and run eve based websites in return for isk which the spend on GTCs so they can play the game having earned in game money for doing their RL job. -
I'm not a role player...
But I often play a role...
Take for instance Snipers. I (nearly) always try and kill them if I see one. And I actively look for them even if I'm massively out levelling the zone (Crey's Folly). Because most of my characters have a severe antipathy to being shot by some ne'erdowell who just happens to see me flying past.
And some of my characters will kill grey-conning mobs who are mugging old ladies.
In the wider world I won't play evil characters as I find it repugnant, can't play Forsaken in WoW as their reason for living (well not living they're undead...) is against my personal beliefs. (IC and RL)
And if I meet a real RPer I'm quite happy to play a long. -
[ QUOTE ]
First of all, each of these are still detectable, so its really hypothetical. (hail to the log files).
[/ QUOTE ]
Hypothetical question, given that in the question they aren't detectable. What I'm trying to ask is if there was no way the devs could find out about them would you. I know in reality that such things very seldom if ever occur. But would your conscience allow you to 'cheat'? -
Other name... not character I have had that I love is Grendel.
I made a Claws/??? probably Rgn called Grendel in EU beta. Once live came a long Grendel became DM/DA. Got to 26/7 and was deleted as it badly needed staminaand I couldn't actually complete a respec on it. (Then came freespec with i4). Thats when I rolled Lost Ninja.
Grendel was rerolled into IIRC a blaster for a bit. But once LN reached 50 Grendel was my first Warshade... never got above 22 or so.
And now she's a DM/DA Tank so has sort of come full circle. I don't play her a lot as she isn't designed for solo play and I am finding a scarcity of low level teams that actually need/want a tank.
Oh and Polyphemus. Also made in beta, also gone through a huge variety of builds, designs and ATs. Now my level 50 blaster using the same sets I used in beta. -
If you want to make the suggestion, it doesn't matter if I agree or not. You make the suggestion, maybe they'll implement it maybe not... but its generally polite to start a new thread for a new suggestion. Or one that is different to the original.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I dont agree, but ok, if thats the case, then my suggestion is neither harder or more difficult than getting any other defeat badge, so whats the real objection? But... i do think killing targets with sniper powers is a little harder. it takes timing, patience and placing if you are attacking mobs of your level or above. Otherwise you risk aggroing the mob and you're not likely to be sniping much in the middle of them, unles you run away and wait again, using timing, patience and placing. It might not be much harder but its a little bit more complicated than "see mob of chosen crit, plough in, use area of effect powers to kill multiple targets, finish of stragglers with single target attacks, go to next mob". Sniper powers are single target attacks, so accumulating a kill count of 100-200 via sniping alone is somewhat more praiseworthy.

Error in translation!
Crit = Double Damage
Mob = killable NPC.
As for the suggestion, all my blasters would have this badge as soon as it was added to the game as all use their Snipe a great deal. -

You have the absolute right to play your alts as you like. Mine however are part of the same team. Well three on my main account are (and have been since I plotted out their back story 3 years or more ago). They should be able to store useful stuff for each other. I'm lucky/stupid (delete as appropriate) to have several accounts and a large SG base so I have in effect already achieved 'personal' storage.

so you got around the limitations by having multiple accounts, with multiple subscriptions. You still cant share items between red and blue side which is exactly what would happen if they had account wide storage. You have a base for your SG so you can share among your current alts on the same server and on the same side. Account wide storage would let players share between servers and across the red/blue divide. This i think would be against the feel of the game (I am , for the sake of argument ignoring the act of transferring manually between alts in a co-op zone as that is not storage and is open to everyone as stands if they have friends/SG). You want all your alts to be part of the same team/sg, then the system allows for that and gives you the reward of base SG storage. I just think that account wide transfer would partially defeat the benefits of SGs and friends in the game and make it more than ever a city of Solo experience. But, as you say, to each his own.

Silly me for assuming that the obvious restriction of Blue and Red side would remain. I can't see them ever adding storage that both sides can share, unless the markets are amalgamated with the release of GR and even then I'd think it would be unlikely.

Having limited personal storage would actually even the curve for newbies. Having a way to store stuff at the moment pretty much is down to how long you've been playing and how many fifties you've got (or how many accounts you have). To get a useful base is certainly cheaper than it was but to get one with just the earnings of lesser played alts is not very easy still (or no-one would need this suggestion). If everyone had access to a personal space they could customise those that don't have the option of the current method of personal space would be able to store stuff much the way I store stuff.

I fail to see how this would even the curve. Player new to the game starts a level 1 alt with 0 inf, the 2 lvl 1 damage enhancements from tutorial and the two inspirations (assuming he didnt use them). The player completes the tutorial and steps out into Atlas Park trains up to level 2 and goes looking for a group. Lets assume he finds one without too much bother and its not a MA or farming group.
With his , now 3, powers our hero is ready to take on evil. thing is, the other blaster in the group is a veteran player and has two or three additional powers (2 ranged, 1 melee) , base teleporter for the SG base he's a member of, a pet that gives bonuses and a teleport power that summons the team mates) the other memeber of the group has a few level 50s already and has access to everything they have in storage. all the best enahncements (for that level) and the ability to spend millions on anything in WWs he wants.

I am a four year veteran, (been away quite a bit too) I have at my command 4 50s and about 300 million inf across two accounts (one is only a week old). I also have access to personal storage that has taken the better part of two years to create and assemble.
If they add player housing and or storage, someone with no 50s or inf can enter the game and immediately have what I have now in the way of storage for nothing. Sure they won't have the inf or drops that I have had, but that is the same with any older MMO. They don't need to spend two years playing in a single person SG with SG mode on to earn enough prestige to earn the sort of stuff I have now. So yes the curve has been flattened.
[ QUOTE ]
newbie player is going to be at a disadvantage all the way up to 50 as he wont have the resources to draw on that the rest do (veteran rewards aside). This, to me, is not a great intro to the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
As were we all. What you think they should be given something extra to make up for the fact they didn't join the game till it was four years old? Maybe they should just be given all the things that they have no chance of receiving because they weren't here?

if anything, it will just serve to encourage farming and power levelling. start an alt, PL to 50, farm as much as possible to feed the new alt. Not because you want to do it but because its the only way to be on a level playing field with the rest. and if you dont like farming? or you dont have a high level alt to fund you? Tough, the IO system is at best only available to you in fractions because you cant afford the stupidly high prices for anything worthwhile , including the salvage to make any of the recipies you picked up.
[/ QUOTE ]
And that changes the game in what way?
The point of the IO system is that its based on random drops. On top of which by playing normal content and doing TFs (which looking at Defiant Events seem to be being run every day) you can earn Merits that can be spent on specific recipes. Grinding your way to fifty and getting the drops you want is easier now than it has ever been. On top of that, bored of the normal content, go do some MA arcs and get tickets that again can be traded for better than average recipes.
I started a level one alt shortly after i14 when I reactivated the game. I only had one account subbed (one unsubbed and one yet to create), I made three million inf before I hit 15 with no storage (needed 2nd account to invite to my SG). I have precisely one extra attack. Why would a newbie be any different to that? I can kill slightly faster.
Everything you are against is already happening. Adding personal storage will make it easier for new players to achieve something of what veterans (that play that way) have already achieved, but with no outlay. -

I've played a few MMOs by now, and what I've learned is that there are always players (and I use the term loosely) who don't know how their class works. I've actually heard someone in another game advise a new player not to choose the healer class because "the healer class is [censored]. Whenever I team with a healer on my tank, the healer always dies real quick."
MA farming is a very high-profile road to not knowing how to play, yes, but let's not pretend that restricting MA is going to suddenly make clueless noobs disappear.
[/ QUOTE ]
Naturally. Ages ago, before we even heard of MA, I teamed with an invul tanker who had all the attacks and only resist physical damage and inviciblity. This was mid 20's
However, as you said, MA does massively up the likelihood of players that have no idea how the ATs work. That, and it results in none of the rest of the game content getting played. Which im pretty sure the Devs dont want, seeing as they keep adding more of it

Played with a 30+ month veteran level 50 tank the other night who had no status protection, Invulnerability Tank at that... I really should have asked why.
