I have a WP scrapper and while the Res is great I find that I'm always struggling to survive.
I'll add two items I don't want to the original question, no Stone as I hate the lack of speed. Managed to get one to 26 or so and loathed it mostly. And no WP as I have a WP scrapper @50 who I love but find it difficult to survive.
Would I be better waiting for Electric Armour in i16? -
What is the best simple tank?
I generally play Scrappers (or defenders, controllers & blasters) in melee, but have wanted a good tank for a while. Especially recently when the quality of tanks seems to have dropped through the floor. "No really a tank is supposed to hold agro and not work like an underpowered scrapper."
I'm looking for a tank that doesn't need expensive sets to be good, has good survivability in most situations, I won't be tanking Hami ever, would be a good tank for the high level TFs (especially STF, ITF & 5TF).
Less bothered about secondary as I'll either pick something that synergises well or SS which I quite like.
I already have a DA/DM tank (at ~level 25) but now I read that they aren't actually very good as tanks... -
I must admit the lack of customisation on the Speed Pool is IMO surprising. Its perhaps one of the most used Pools in the game either SS or Hasten or both for an awful lot of characters. The devs would have got more praise for their work (bang for buck) for allowing recolouring of Hasten and SS than pretty much anything else. Though I think baked in flight pose changes would come close second.

Looking forward to:
Changing a lot of my powers. Particularly my Nrg Blast, Dark Melee & Kinetics. Also hoping that I can change my Dark Miasma into Light Miasma... so that when my MM goes rogue in GR she can be truly heroic.
Increased spawn sizes, not sure how it'll work but for my kins I like nice big mobs with a low difficulty.I can do all Boss spawns in MA, but I'd much rather do real content than have to look for non-farming farms that have sensible enemies.
Claws Brute - Wanted one for a long time, though I may well level my SS/SD first. And making foot-stomp the hit ground animation...
Interested in some of the proliferation too, but less so than the above. Traps for defenders does interest me a lot. Plus Arch/TA corrupter... what corrupters should have had from the word go IMO. -
Is it not called the test server?

Why would adding weather make the servers struggle?
I would have thought weather effects would all be client side as they would have zero impact on anything apart from look. Its not like you'd earn more XP when it was raining or something. With no reason for it to be abused making it a client side change would be logical. With the plus side to that if your machine is of the older sort you can switch the whole thing off.
Edit: Or even use weather picked from some sort of online weather station so you could have your local weather in game. -
In no particular order.
1)If you use the refer a friend thing you will need to start all the characters again, as it doesn't work on a current trial account. In other words should you find someone to help, they will send you a trial account through the RaF, you then activate that trial account turning it into a full account.
2)He can't easily ask in game as he's on a trial account which limits his chat to local or team (IIRC).
3)This forum seems about the best place to ask, certainly where I'd have asked if I was going to ask... If he knew which server he wanted to play on he might be better asking in that forum but he doesn't so can't.
4)You get billed for the 2nd month when your first month runs out, so 30 days after you sign up for the game you will be billed for the next month. If on a RaF you have 90 days to pay for the 2nd month otherwise you wouldn't get the free month.
Trial = 10 days + first month 30 days. So from friend sending you a RaF you have 40 days until you need to pay anything.
I created my 3rd account using the above method so I know how the thing works. -
Yes Hero side...
Did the 5TF the other day and one of the people on the team told us that the temp power stops Reichsman regenerating when he goes into Unstoppable.
I had the power analyser temp power and hitting him with the temp power seemed to make no difference to anything at any point. Though I didn't check in the first few minutes of the battle (couldn't as the tank was in a rush and started wailing on him before we'd finished the mob outside the door).
I thought that one of the devs said that the power is just to remove the aura right at the beginning that prevents him taking damage.
So what is actually going on? -
TBH while the devs have always said that raising the level cap is something they will never do... there seem to be a lot of things that they will never do that they have done. I think that raising the level cap is something that will happen but only once the game really starts to die back and the sub numbers are haemorrhaging.

Quote:This is true... reason I didn't mention it was a)I forgot and b)I personally don't use it because I have a tab just for system messages, and filling up said tab doesn't matter to me.Although, if it's something you use frequently, you should use /bindloadfilesilent, rather than /bindloadfile. The latter command will fill your system channel with spam messages notifying you that it's loading the files. The former won't give you any system messages.
That said I tend not to use these sort of binds in the first place because unless you have a pool of a hundred sayings you and everyone around you will get terribly bored of the whole thing rapidly IMO. Especially in a power that sensibly slotted you use every 5 seconds or less. -
In essence, create a new text file for each of the comments/taunts. Please for the sake of those you team with don't use these in normal chat mode (eg g/l/b/etc) which is why I list them as emote.
<key> - Replace this with the key you want to bind to.
<power> - The name of the power you're using.

The exchange rate for prestige and indeed buying prestige at all is not a solution. While even large SGs in the beginning need large amounts of prestige to get going, once they are going to cost virtually nothing to run. I earn enough Prestige in one play session to cover my base's rent for a whole month (or three). That is with all but one of the total allowed storage items.
I am in effectively a single person SG (some friends who no longer play much still have alts in there).
To make inf > prestige an effective sink they'd need to add something to SGs to remove the prestige in larger amounts than it does currently. And while returning rent/base construction costs to what they were would do that to an extent then it would remove the ability of small SGs from making nice bases. Another point to remember is that items placed in a base (normal stuff) can be sold for the same cost.
I agree something needs to be done but I don't think Inf > Prestige exchange will make any difference regardless of the actual exchange rate. -
Most of the stock existing maps are assembled from predefined tiles linked together.
Back in CoV beta several of the office and Arachnos maps had gaps between the tiles that you could fall through, that needed to be fixed before launch.
Plus sometimes on some maps (on the minimap) you can see slight gaps between the sections.
So the underlying technology could well work with a generator...
I'd love to see it, like Diablo 1 set locations remained the same but all the dungeons were somewhat random. made the re-playability much greater than many more recent games. -
A hospital of any sort would be good. But sorting out Stephanie's arc so that the missions aren't in a random order and not (nearly) all Kill Alls would be better.
-
Make it a AoE buff like Inertial Reduction, or even a ST buff. 90-120s up time otherwise works identical to normal fly (lower max speed). Make it easy to remove for those who don't like it (either by r.clicking the icon or with a new /macro command).
St would be best for teams but AoE would be better for MMs... ideally it'd function differently depending on who was the target... -
Currently running a trio of empathy defenders, made them after seeing a post somewhere else on how good Emp/Sonic can be.
Sonic debuffs a mobs resistance, so subsequent hits do more damage. While playing with my current trio I wondered if having a rad trio (secondaries debuff defence making subsequent attacks hit more often) would be better... or would mixing the two be better still.
So my questions are for a proto 'Super Team'. Will I be better off with a mixture of secondaries or sticking with just sonic or just rad? Are there any other interesting secondaries to look at? -
There seem to be quite a few (and more seem to appear on a regular basis) channels that are server wide but with very few people in. If these server wide channels were made Global the response for those using them would be better and would mean that their function would be better covered.
Unless you have a huge screen you are unlikely to have more than 2-3 chat panes up at once (well I don't) and it's likely that unless like Golden Girl you actually monitor them all the time you don't get to see them.
Make them Global and the channels get all the people on all the servers who use them responding rather than the much smaller number on a single server.
Well IMO anyway. -
Rather than clutter up the other thread showing off what you (I) have managed to do using the popmenu system I figured starting a new thread would be a better thing.
Don't know what popmenu is? Look in this thread for more details.
So without further ado this is what I have been doing... (no code... see text version below for listing).
I'm not sure if all of those options need to be in there TBH, I started off only looking for the Earn XP option, but the idea snowballed from there and I figured I might as well list all of those that I could work out. Most of the options that take a large text string will place the command in the chat box so you can type the text string in your self... I may remove those at another point.
options.mnu (text / download)

Too many server wide channels IMO, make all the 'global' channels Global.
-
I have uploaded the file I used to test this:
<removed link website down>
Files is combines.mnu
Read the path.txt for install details.
However one thing that might cause difficulties is IIRC vista doesn't like people modifying files within the Program Files directory. If you're running Vista it might be wise to move you installation to somewhere else. (Copy/Paste to new location, run the updater and tell it the new install location, takes 30s or so.) -
Just used it in game and it worked... well changed three lucks into a CaB. Only difference I made to what you've listed here is I added a carriage return immediately below the comment line:Quote:I also saved it as a new .mnu file rather than adding it to an existing one.

If you do get it working I hope you post all the other combinations... I was going to do one of these but got bored rather quickly when I realsied how many iterations there would be. -
It is always nice to know something that not everyone knows.
It is even nicer to be able to share said knowledge.
-
Quote:Not in game ATM but from recollection if you have spaces in a name the command breaks in popmenu... however if you replace the spaces with underscores '_' that should work.MNU files don't like quotes inside the Option commands; you've got quotes around every inspiration name.
Though I only have it in my WP armour names so it might work for inspiration commands. -
Quote:/window_color <int> <int> <int> <int>Is there a command to set opacity via slash command? It's not listed under either cmdlist or viable option_set and forum search draws a blank too.
/window_color R G B A
Values I think are 0-255 (not 100% on that though). Can't see how to set individual windows though.
Really ought to re-add this to my sig.

But haven't got round to updating it from i13 yet. -
What I used to do... (don't tend to use so many bind loads now). **
- Create a folder to keep the files in. (eg c:\program files\city of heroes\binds)
- Right click the folder in explorer.
- Click 'Sharing and Security'.
- On the 'Sharing' tab select 'Share this folder on the network' & 'Allow network users to change files' (not sure you need this, I have three computes running clients so did).
- Hit OK.
- In explorer go to: Tools > Map Network Drive.
- Pick a drive letter. (eg Z:\)
- In the folder box either browse to the location of the folder you just set the sharing details on, or type something like: \\<computer name>\<folder name> in my case its \\Max_\Binds *
- Hit Okay.
- In game rather than using /bindloadfile c:\program files\city of heroes\binds\binds.txt you can use Z:\binds.txt
**Based on a windows XP system
The above can be achieved with a MSDOS command using the 'Assign' command, probably needs some better tech knowlege than the above nowadays but works without any network issues. (Probably doesn't work on Vista or Higher). ((Might not work on XP could have sworn I have done this in the past...)
Edit to add:
Nowadays I use a single file for every character that has every keybind I need defined... saved in the game root which is then set as the default keys when any new character is created. (I do the same for chat, options and windows too.)
