I do hope that Conserve Power is kept. That would be one of the chief attractions of the set, IMO, especially if it became available at the same tier.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually to be honest I hope CP is the one power they LOSE in favour of a self heal or something. Power Sink recharges so fast that endurance loss is not an issue with Electric Armor. The biggest problem ELA has is the lack of a heal and since it's a resistance based set it means you'll be hit a lot and the odds of even getting off a Aid Self heal is highly unlikely.
If they took out CP which is in my opinion redundant for the set and put in a heal (even making it a to hit heal off an enemy like Dark Regen) it would improve the set 100X. If not I would avoid this set like the plague because against energy blasting foes like Rikti you'll feel like God. But the second you are up against S/L or Fire attacking foes you'll quite literally feel the burn
It was for this reason alone that when I made my Brute long ago I made him Stone Melee/Electric because I had to spam Fault and Tremor over and over to keep the baddies either knocked down or disoriented so that they weren't chipping chunks out of my health. -
Did you hear that? That was the sound of a thousand farmers weeping silent tears of joy lol

lol I was just thinking how much I missed Ultimus posts. He was well known as the guy who always posts the most bleeding obvious or extensively covered information as a new post and acts like it's some kind of newsflash to the rest of us. Welcome back man.

I am hoping for some serious Gun Fu ala Equilibrium.

Technically it was called Gunkata -
VERY VERY VERY highly doubt it. I suggest along with others long ago they should just scrap the pvp aspect of it and make it a trial or something like the Calvin Scott TF. Alas I never heard anything after repeated PM's to the devs so I think the subject on both CoP and Calvin is closed.

Ever since the last issue they recently added the option that bosses have a TINY chance of dropping a pool C/D recipe. I've had Arachnos bosses drop Numina Regen/End.

You have my deepest and most sincere condolences. What a beautiful Lab and I can only say that eventually the pain of losing her will subside and you'll get over it. In my family we've had 4 dogs. The first was a Lab/Collie named Socks (she had white fur on all four paws and the rest of her coat was black) and she was a completely stupid dog. I mean she was so stupid that she ran away from us during the dead of winter and froze to death in the woods behind our house
Our second dog was one of our best. Her name was Money Penny (yes after James Bond secretary) and she was a German Shepherd/Border Collie and a loyal and loving dog with a FIERCE attitude when it came to protecting her family that we had to keep her locked up whenever company came because she would attack anyone not a family member or known friend. She lived to be 13 years old and finally we had to put her down because of compounding medical problems that were making her life unbearable.
After her we had a wonderful German Shepherd/Boxer and her name was Penny (named in memory of our last dog). She also was a fiercely loyal dog and so lovable and great with my niece and nephew. Her mother the Shepherd though was one of those long hair GS and as such she use to shed TONS of hair and we had to pay a small fortune every month to have her shaved down to the stubble at the cost of almost 100 dollars and then do it again in a little over 1 month later
Our newest dog is a GORGEOUS White German Shepherd/Golden Lab named Snowie. She has white fur and eyelashes but a stripe of stiff golden hair down her back and little patches on her paws. She's a beautiful dog and at 7 month old already huge. She's very lovable and friendly but VERY hard headed and SMART. She can figure out problems in no time flat and seeing her work out a problem is so amazing.
That's the great thing about pets though. You can be a serial killer or a mugger in real life but as long as you give a pet love and good food they will love you and be loyal to you until the day they die. In time I would consider getting another dog to replace the one you lost. After Penny died we waited a year before we considered getting another dog and after searching and giving up find the perfect dog for our family. One day the phone rang and a breeder we had left a message with on their webpage contacted us and told us they had a litter of 8 puppies that were sired by a pure breed white German Shepherd father and pure breed golden Lab. When we got there we found out that all the puppies were gone except 1 female that no one wanted. She was curled up in a ball in the corner of her pen totally silent and looking miserable. They told us that after her brothers and sisters were taken away she had gone into a deep depression and not barked or played with any other puppies in over 6 weeks. We took her in and now 7 months later she is a piece of work full of piss and vinegar and totally in love with our family.
Time will heal your wounds and when your ready get another dog and that hole in your heart will be filled again -

Server Transfer is WoW, $25, they can deny the transfer request if the server is too full and that character can't be moved again for a month and depending on level, there are limits to how much gold can be transferred and you must not have any active auctions.
Here, $10, no restrictions, move them again tomorrow.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bingo. Yeah when server transfer first came out I thought 10 bucks was a bit too high as well but then I did some investigating and checked other games and what they charged for the same service. After boggling over what other games charged for transferring I quickly felt relieved that our transfers were only 10 dollars. It's a steal. -
This horse is so dead that it's not just lying there anymore. It's carcass has already rotted into the ground and sunflowers and lilacs are growing there now. I understand what your saying but ultimately it's the devs decision if the AE is being abused or not and whether it's hurting the game. I'm sure they are closely monitoring the AE on every server and datamining how many people are using it and how quickly they are hitting 50. If in time they realize it's a bad thing they'll do something about it. Until then it's here to stay and no need to rehash old arguments until something new is announced by the developers.

So ummm let's take a look shall we.
Somebody has a pretty dynamic style of gameplay.
A farmer/fight cluber who complains when being bothered while farming and fight clubbing but... says the arena is for 1v1, uses ncps to fight, calls people and uses words like "male genitalia", "negative word used to describe homosexuals" and lastly "one of the least desirable words for sex".
Let's not forget that somone around here posted a flame of Twixt in the Freedom section that was modded/deleted.
***EDIT*** I'm glad you mentioned this.

Hypocrite much?
Grief much?
Lie much?
Build more myths about Twixt much?
It is attitudes like this (and lack of game knowledge) that have caused some of the community to look down on Twixt. Some of you who have been complaining have not PvPed, don't know the PvP rules, follow hear say only, neglect the fact that you have had your fair share of negative comments on these boards and ingame.
Twixt's methods are being looked at but that does not discount the points/goals of the paper and it is pretty clear (looks at some in the community) that Twixts obsevations were correct.
I'm loving this community of angels-who-do-no-wrong and would rather try to burn someone at the stake then admit the above to be true.

lol that's me. My farming toon in RV was Ka Faraq Gatri. He use to get SO angry that 99% of the reds in RV left me alone because I was only there to farm NPC's. The majourity of villains that played in RV were my friends and as such would let me do my thing. Twixt hated this and would go out of his way to grief me and insult me in broadcast.
Half the time I just ignored him but every once in a while I would toss out a comment just to further frustrate him. Eventually he realized he wasn't getting to me and that no matter what he did he couldn't persuade the villains in the zone to attack me so he actually put ME on ignore lol Clearly this was part of his 'research' or something. I'm dismayed I was never mentioned in his 'report' -
If you do pick Thugs as your primary then you have a unique chance to slot the Defense and Resistance IO's into Gang War which give a HUGE boost to your pets. I have all 4 of the Unique's slotted in Gang and with just 4 slots I increased my pets defense by 10% and my resistance by 20%. With Maneuvers running as well as the Enforcers leadership powers and World of Pain all my pets have 40% defense to melee/aoe/ranged attacks and 40-50% resistance for the tier 2 and 3 pets and the Brusier has nearly 70% resistances. Combined with you heals and a nicely slotted Web Envelope to immobilize mobs I can take out half the life of lvl 53 minions and lt's with just 2 attacks from the Arsonist alone.
If you have the cash to sink into IO's then a fully pimped out Thugs/Pain MM is phenomenal. The sheer volume of damage you can pump out and the amount of damage you can take is bewildering. I also have perma WoP for myself and all my pets and perma Painbringer for my Bruiser. That alone turns the Bruiser into a tank and able to easily go toe to toe with AV's. Just incredible. -
So long and thanks for all the fish!
P.S. Can I have your stuff -

Follow-up article: http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2...web_sound.html
It appears that Mr. Chuck Cook is as lazy as the good professor when it comes to writing. He links to this thread in his article, yet makes no mention of all the legitimate ethics issues and continues to treat the professor's word as truth. He also repeats the worst examples of the out-of-game abuses from his first article and cherry-picks responses to make it sound like all gamers respond that way.
[/ QUOTE ]
I decided to register on the site to post a response, since they linked to this thread and I'm the OP.
First, the writer is Mr. Vargas, not Mr. Cook. I accidentally snagged the name of the picture, not the byline. Here's my response:
Mr. Vargas, your follow-up article continues to be painfully slanted and biased towards Prof. Myers. You continue to write about the scholarly professor vs. the vindictive PvPers, yet you completely ignore the points in the thread on the official forums to which you link in this article. (Full discosure: I am the original poster of that thread.)
Nowhere in your articles do you address the ethics issues of the professor performing ethnographic research on unwilling and unknowing subjects (and most likely, minors). He acted as an instigator to the events and was in no way an impartial observer, which fatally taints his research. Folks who were impacted by his actions have been urged to begin an ethics complaint against the professor.
Nor do you address the professor's attitude towards those defeated. Your writing, most likely paraphrased from the professor's paper, makes it appear that the professor would perform legal but looked down upon acts, and then soak up the vitriol. However, if you had read the thread, you would see that he "talked trash, he posted kill-logs, and he specifically harassed those who expressed the most outrage. He portrays himself as some victim who doesn't understand the anger directed at him, but it simply wasn't the case." To expect for the most competitive portion of the gaming population to be unresponsive to such blatant taunts and insults is naive at best.
Finally, the general consensus in that thread is that the professor was someone who got caught playing City of Heroes on university time and had to somehow make it research to avoid sanctions. Note he started playing not long after the game launched in 2004, yet did not start his "research" until 2006, and only stopped it when certain changes were made to the PvP system that minimized the effects of his actions.
Professor Myers' blanket portrayal of the community is highly inaccurate considering that he "played" on 3 of 11 servers, and focused his actions solely in PvP zones, something which perhaps 10% of the population participate in. If you'd like to get a better feel for the kind of people who play City of Heroes, I can direct you to a thread about a dad and his young daughter playing the game together, the story of a server community adopting a puma at a zoological park, and a previous news article written about how the game allows family members separated by vast distances to interact despite being oceans apart.
In short, Professor Myers' paper is horrible piece of "research" and both articles on nola.com are incredibly biased towards the professor and his unethical research methodology.

Very well put Space and I have also crafted an email of my own to the author of the article in question and voiced pretty much the same arguments that you raised and told him he should reconsider the article and perhaps post an apology to the community and the devs of COH which are smeared by this travesty of a report. -
I VERY highly doubt it. That would require either changing the models (because when you upgrade them their skins change) or creating brand new avatars for 'blue' MM's and I highly doubt the devs are going to reskin every MM set for blue side. That's a helluva lot of work.

I'll give you just a slice of the broadcast chat last night while I was in Cap on Freedom. I was doing some house keeping in my base of buying/selling recipes and whatnot and for [censored] and giggles had Broadcast up (which I normally don't). All the people that were talking were between the levels of 40-50.
Villain #1: I want to start the Croatoa SF where do I go for that?
Villain #2: I can't figure out why I can't control my Gang War with my pet binds.
Villain #3: Someone told me if I want to unlock a new Katana that looks like a lightsaber I should go to the RWZ. What's that and how do I get there?
Villain #4: How come Domination drops like every minute or so? I mean it's my inherent so shouldn't be on always?
Villain #5: I did a SF last night that dropped a purple recipe as the reward for completing it but can't remember the name. Does anyone know what SF I'm looking for?
Trust me there were also other posts far far FAR more stupid and idiotic but that gives you just a small idea of the caliber of players flooding into the game. God help us -
Whoa whoa whoa.... My avatar looks like his? Okayyyyyy. Because a Time Lord standing on a rock face with the Citadel of Gallifrey behind him looks SOOOO much a giant flaming eyeball. Well... upon reflection I guess the reddish tint of the avatar could make you do a double take
In any case I'm glad I could be of service.

Just for clarification of a few peoples' replies:
- Twixt started on Champion server, then moved to Freedom. He may have moved after that, but I'm not aware of it. If you never heard of him, cool. If you supported him, cool. If you hated him, that's cool too. He was, to say the least, a polarizing figure to those of us who knew him.
- He was originally a nice guy that many people teamed with. Once his "study" began in PvP zones, it was widely thought that his account had been sold because it seemed like an entirely different individual.
- His method was not droning. It was TP Foeing opponents into PvE mobs (Longbow), fearing them, and keeping up this combination until they were killed by the mobs. This resulted in debt for those individuals. This is the main reason he received so much vitriol. He played a DM/Regen Scrapper that specialized in TP Foe, Touch of Fear, and TPing away. It was not a revolutionary tactic, and the "skill" associated with it is debatable. He simply applied the tactic with the intention of giving the other players debt.
- He worked hard to develop the anger that was directed at him. He talked trash, he posted kill-logs, and he specifically harassed those who expressed the most outrage. He portrays himself as some victim who doesn't understand the anger directed at him, but it simply wasn't the case.
- I've been in contact with the author of the article (wasn't hard, just shot an email asking if he had thought of actually researching the story instead of just taking Twixt's word as truth), and I'll be writing and submitting a Letter to the Editor tomorrow. The author didn't seem all that pleased with how the article turned out. Apparently, he wanted to provide a more in-depth description of what Twixt had actually done, but the piece was intended to be a human interest piece on Twixt's player, not a focus on the research itself. Someone quoted my "comment" toward the beginning of this thread, and as a Champion player, I'll be posting my letter in the Champion thread on this topic. Feel free to swing by there to check it out. I never personally held any contempt towards Twixt, but I would like to at least set the record straight as to exactly what took place.
Note: There's no excuse for the threats that were thrown at Twixt. He didn't deserve such things, but he also is nowhere near the altar boy he's presenting himself to be.
[/ QUOTE ]
He would also tp foe someone into the pillbox turrets and fear them and let the guns mow them down. If the hero base was camped by reds he would also tp foe reds into the drones as well. His bile was also used against heroes and not just villains.
As I stated in one of my previous posts he also noticed me one day farming in RV with a hero heavy and herded up 3-4 mobs of Arachnos and dragged them to where I was at to try and intentionally get me killed. When that failed he then started telling every villain in the zone what my toon name was, where I was at and also that I was insulting them and whatnot.
A true impartial sociologist would view events from a distance and record what they see. They don't instigate fights, arguments or negative behaviour themselves and then step back and watch the carnage they created. Any data they might collect would be invalid because he artificially created it himself.
I don't know if he sold his account or just reactivated it but about a month ago on Infinity I was farming in RV on my blue toon and he showed up (same global name and badges) the same as when he was on Freedom so either he has an exact toon with the exact badges and IO bonuses on Infinity as he did on Freedom or he did a server swap. -
I did and still do farm in RV with a heavy by killing npc's and have done for years. One day Twixt happened across me and in typical Twixt fashion didn't like that there was someone in the zone that either didn't like him or was actively trying to kill him. So as I was farming he gathered a whole herd of enemy npc's together and then dragged them over to where I was to try and get me killed. When that didn't work he started saying in Broadcast to anyone that would listen that I was talking smack about all the villains in the zone and he gave them my location and encouraged them to gank me as often as possible.
He was/is an instigator and instead of being an impartial observer which is what a good sociology majour would do he instead CREATES controversy and a negative atmosphere and then steps back and watches the carnage he has created. Such a blatant case of manipulation which would blow any data he might collect out of the water on the grounds it's tainted data. When it comes down to it he was just a sad and lonely guy looking for attention and went out of his way to cause trouble and then hide behind the flimsy excuse of professional research to justify his own despicable actions. The best thing to do with him and anyone like him is what I did in game. You just /ignore and go about your daily routine. Deprived of attention people like him get bored and frustrated that no one is paying any attention to him and he'll leave. -

I gave some thought to this and I also considered the fact when it comes to accolades what will the devs do? I think in this sense you can have only 1 accolade and not stack them. For instance if you are a hero and have the Freedom Phalanx Reserve accolade then you can't get High Pain Threshold which is the villain equivalent. At least that's what I'm hoping and why I'm not going to bother with my red toons I intend to move to blue side. I can get ALL the HP and End accolades in 1 day blue side but the red versions have such ridiculous requirements that I refuse to do them.
-
It's possible with the last patch that since you can now choose 'Regular' drops with AE missions that is recipes/salvage/base salvage that the market might start to come down again since the supply of items may start to go back up again now that people have the choice.

We already have Dual Pistols in the game...
Check out Malta Gunslingers...
Gunslinger
Some of the most deadly Operatives in the Malta Group have been given the nickname Gunslingers. This name came into common usage not only because the agents use firearms, but because they also tend to have the same kind of cocky attitude and cow boy mentality that one associates with gunslingers in the old west.

I bet you two nickels to a doughnut that if we do get a Dual Pistols set that these powers will DEFINITELY be part of it. If the devs have shown us one consecutive trait it's their laziness knows no bounds and if they can just copy/paste powers they will -
They STILL haven't fixed how many people are bidding or how many items are currently available in stock for HO's at WW and the BM. Course this bug has been with the Market since it's INCEPTION so I don't see it being fixed anytime soon
