A Featurette is now online for Focus Features' upcoming spy thriller "The American" starring George Clooney, Violante Placido, Thekla Reuten, Irina Björklund, and Bruce Altman.

The movie is due out in theaters on September 1, 2010.

    Check out the featurette below.

Academy Award winner George Clooney stars in the title role of this suspense thriller, filmed on location in Italy. Alone among assassins, Jack (played by Mr. Clooney) is a master craftsman. When a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, he vows to his contact Larry (Bruce Altman) that his next assignment will be his last.

Jack reports to the Italian countryside, where he holes up in a small town and relishes being away from death for a spell. The assignment, as specified by a Belgian woman, Mathilde (Thekla Reuten of "In Bruges"), is in the offing as a weapon is constructed. Surprising himself, Jack seeks out the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto (Italian stage and screen veteran Paolo Bonacelli) and pursues romance with local woman Clara (Italian leading lady Violante Placido). But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.

There's a lot of projects that Timur Bekmambetov is connected to, but there can only be one that he'll be directing really soon. That comes in the form of the novel adaptation "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter".

"That one I'm prepping to direct myself. it is not a comedy at all -- it is a very entertaining, epic history lesson for millions and millions of teenagers. If you remember Nightwatch, it is maybe in the vein of that kind of movie."

Seth Grahame-Smith's "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" cetners on Lincoln, who learns at an early age that his mother was killed by a supernatural predator. This provokes his bloody but curiously undocumented lifelong vendetta against vampires and their slave-owning allies. Production is expected to start up in the winter if everything goes according to plan.

In regards to "Wanted 2", a project that's been on Bekmambetov's radar for awhile. Well, it'll still be awhile according to him. "We are working on it now, but I think it will be after Lincoln because James (McAvoy) is working on the 'X-Men: First Class'." Does anyone want a "Wanted 2"?

This guy has been linked to SOOOO many new projects that my head is dizzy on just what it is he does have coming out anytime soon. But I must say the idea of an Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a pretty novel approach lol

Oh believe me. You REALLY don't want to know the whole 'ending' to John Doe. Right after the series was canceled the creator was interviewed by TVGuide and he explained how the series would have ended. Apparently the secret organization that was hunting him throughout the series was doing so because of what happened to him. They are a society that learned long ago that certain people that are struck by lightning have a mechanism short circuited in their brains which allows them to tap into the genetic memory of the entire human race and therefore it grants them super intelligence and the ability to recall anything and everything ever experienced by man up until that point. This society identified those people and then captured them and tried to harness their abilities. They captured him and then branded him as being one of the specials ones that have this ability but the woman that appeared in colour to him broke him out of their installation and then she went on the run. So he was going to spend the rest of the series trying to bring the group down and also find the woman who risked everything to make sure he escaped.

What's sad is I LIKE him as a good guy and so does Sean Bean. He's stated many times in interviews he likes playing protagonists but that the only work that usually comes his way is villains or characters that croak early in the film lol

HBO confirmed: "Game of Thrones" will indeed premiere next spring.

game of thrones 288x288One executive at the TCA press tour said that he thought it will premiere March 3rd, though another corrected him and just said "spring."

"It's a genre we've approached somewhat cautiously," said Michael Lombardo, HBO's programming president. "We have two writers ... who are so smart and so talented. Neither of us are particularly fans of the genre. It was such enormously compelling reading. It wasn't the genre we responded to it was the storytelling."

"It's really about power," added Richard Plepler, co-president. "And that's a theme which has resonated throughout history. You'll forget where you are very quickly and will find yourself immersed in the storytelling."

Both executives noted that the show's intense online fandom is helpful for growing an audience ... yet also adds pressure.

"It's a ravenous audience," Lombardo said. "You have to get it right. Those fans are waiting. They've set a bar that, if you do it, you have to do it right.

20th Century Fox has acquired the film rights to writer Mark Millar ("Wanted," "Kick-***") and artist Steve McNiven's graphic novel "Nemesis," with Tony Scott attached to direct and Scott Free producing. Marvel describes the title as follows:

CIVIL WAR? Nothing. KICK-***? A warmup. What if the smartest, toughest costumed bad *** in the world was totally evil? Meet Nemesis. He's systematically been destroying the lives of every police chief in Asia, and he's now set his sights on Washington, DC. Between you and me, the police don't have a chance. Do not miss the book that EVERYONE will be talking about by the creative team that made CIVIL WAR the biggest book of the decade.

Millar commented on the announced on his official site:

Oh, man. It's so good to finally be able to talk about this:

The man who shot Maverick in Top Gun, Bruce in the Last Boy Scout, yelled action for Will Smith in Enemy of the State, directed Denzel in Man on Fire (one of the finest revenge movies ever made), had Tarantino rework Hackman's dialogue in Crimson Tide and gave me Deneuve's naughtiest performance in The Hunger is directing our movie. Oh, AND he did True Romance, for my money the best of all the Tarantino flicks. Tony Scott: I can't even pretend to be cool about this.

Bryan Hitch and I would reference Tony on a weekly basis when we were doing The Ultimates. Our dream was an Ultimates movie with Scott directing because he can do the character work and the intensity, but also handle scale and action like practically no other. The idea of a him helming a superhero movie had us giddy and here he is directing the one Steve McNiven and I created. We found out last Friday night and managed to keep a secret from all but a few of our closest friends and family. But this is the call I had a couple of weeks back, which I described as the most exciting of my career; Tony on the blower chatting about how he wanted to shoot certain scenes if we gave him the rights. He was buzzing about it, describing Steve as the best comic book artist he's seen in over twenty years. We talked casting, we talked budget (and we're talking way more than Wanted and Kick-*** put together here in terms of money for him to play with) and we talked with Fox about making this into a major franchise, something they're really going to invest their time and energy into.

As you can imagine, I'm more than excited. Steve is delirious and this puts our books instantly in an entirely different league in Hollywood terms. Tony said this was a very timely project and Fox want to get this moving as soon as possible. Next up is a script and the writer we talked about did one of my top five movies of all time. The actor he's shooting for as the lead character is going to blow your socks off.

I'm happy and Steve's happy. This has been the most exciting week you can imagine and we're enormously appreciative of all the people who have been waiting around for the twenty-four hours we've been waiting for the news to go live. It's incredibly affirming to have people so into the work that they care enough and apologies for the delay in getting this out there, but we hope you agree this is awesome news.

    Very best wishes,
    MM

Not sure how we missed this news coming out of Comic-Con until now, but for Quantum Leap fans, it might have been the BIGGEST news to come out of Comic-Con. Quantum Leap will be back. And it will be back on the big screen.

At the "A Leap of Faith—A Quantum Leap Retrospective" panel, Scott Bakula shared the big news with the 600 fans who attended:

The good news is that Don [Quantum Leap creator Donald P. Bellisario] is working on the film script and has a big time Hollywood producer who wants to do it ... It's about time. But what I always thought would happen, happened ... [that he's now too old for the role]. But Dean [Stockwell, who played Al] and I will have a part in it somehow.

Don did say that as he was writing, he told me he was having trouble, 'getting you and Dean out of my head.' But I know he will do it.

So to recap—Big-screen Quantum Leap, yes; Scott Bakula as Sam Beckett, no; Scott Bakula as ... something, yes.

We'll take it. How about you?

    Original Article Link
No offense to Mr. Bakula but do you have any idea how many TIMES we've heard this same line before? Sorry but until I see a trailer I'm not buying it. Also on the big screen and no Bakula or Stockwell as Sam and Al? What the hell is the point then in the project? Without some resolution to the original series then all it is is just a reboot.

Comic Book Resources is claiming that executives from Warner Bros want to take advantage of the monumental tax incentives New Orleans
has to offer for Christopher Nolan's Batman 3.

"It appears the studio's relationship with the New Orleans filming office is at it's peak and neither party wishes for it to end when Green Lantern enters post production in Los Angeles next week. Location scouting for the untitled Batman project has already begun in Chicago, Illinois, where the two previous films were headquartered. If this new deal finalizes, almost half of principal photography will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana. This deal would be a big help to the studio financially, since it would allow better use of the projected $200 million budget for the film."

Batman 3 is apparently scheduled to begin production between March and April, 2011.

Batman 3 comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

Hell I say bring it on! That area needs revenue bad and the idea of a major Hollywood production like that in town will help bring in local cash and interest in the area. Sounds like a win/win for the people of Louisiana.

You've got to love their thinking here. As ABC presses ahead with the second season of its V ‘reimagining', it's pulled a smart casting move that neatly brings the old and new takes on the show together.

It's been revealed that Diana from the original V series, Jane Badler, has joined the cast of the new version. And - are you ready for this? - she'll be playing Anna's mother this time around.

We've no idea how far into V season 2 Badler will appear, just that right now the show is in production, ahead of its return in November.

    We'll keep you posted...

In the build-up to the long-awaited (well, it feels like it) fourth season of Torchwood going into production this coming January, Russell T Davies has been talking to US reporters about what we can expect from the show. We already know that Davies has planned to take the show into much darker territory, following the lead set by Torchwood: Children Of Earth, and he's expanded a little on that in his latest natter.

Firstly, the show is going to be called Torchwood: The New World this time around, and it's going to be a self-contained season of 10 episodes. Thus, while it'll be respecting the canon of Torchwood, once more, this is going to be a season dedicated to telling one big story.

Furthermore, it's been confirmed that a pair of new characters are joining Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen this time round. They are Rex Matheson, a CIA agent, and Ester Katusi, who will be playing an analyst. We've no idea yet who's going to be playing either of them, but, rest assured, we'll be submitting our showreel.

Furthermore, Davies has spoken about the opportunity being on a cable network in the States allows in terms of pushing things in the show. He told Airlock Alpha, "I've always had loose standards and practices. If the story demands intimacy or savagery, we will go there absolutely. [But] there's nothing better than a great big global thriller that stops for a sex scene - it's probably hard to make that happen in a thriller."

It's also been revealed that helping on the writing side of things will be John Shiban, Jane Espenson and Doris Egan. Shiban is a veteran of The X-Files, and has the likes of Star Trek: Enterprise and Breaking Bad on his resume. Espenson, meanwhile, has the likes of Battlestar Galactica, Caprica and Buffy The Vampire Slayer to her name. Egan, meanwhile, has penned episodes of Dark Angel and Tru Calling.

Also returning to the writing team is John Fay (who penned a couple of episodes of Children Of Earth).

Well we can at least be thankful it's going to be on a cable network. Then at least the show won't be butchered into a million pieces by the executives that 'know' better about the show.

Tarzan will be making a return to the world of animation thanks to Constantin Films, reports Variety. Robert Kulzer and Reinhard Klooss will produce the CGI film for release in 3D.

Constantin, best known for films in the Resident Evil and Fantastic Four franchises, is also developing a live-action 3D adaptation of a classic literature in the form of The Three Musketeers, to be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.

Tarzan himself has been the focus of dozens of adaptations in both film and television since his first appearance in Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes in 1912. In 1999, Disney released a theatrical animated version (later spawning a cartoon series) as is currently at work adapting another Burroughs property for live action, John Carter of Mars, set for release in 2012.

Matthew Vaughn at first was known as that one director who did "Layer Cake", but after the semi-success of "Kick-***" a large chunk of people don't associate him with the better of the two features. Since he's tied down to direct "X-Men: First Class" and the sequel to "Kick-***", it's a little surprising to hear what he has to say about superhero films.

"I've always wanted to do a big-budget superhero film and I think we've kind of crossed the Rubicon with superhero films," Vaughn said.

"I think [the opportunity to do one], it's only going to be there two or three more times." "Then," he added, "the genre is going to be dead for a while because the audience has just been pummeled too much."

While that is true, it's also depending on the approach of each comic book film. Every once in awhile you'll be able to transcend the typical brand of a comic feature and make an actual well developed end product like "Road to Perdition" or "The Dark Knight". Sometimes the people putting it together know their audience so you'll get surprise hits like "Iron Man".

All right, so these films are some what few and far between. But ever since companies like Marvel started to invest more in successfully transitioning their source material onto the big screen, they're able to create entertaining yet engaging films, key word 'films'.

Many have complained that Matthew Vaughn's "Kick-***" is a mess, that it lacked the bit of heart that the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. comics kept in the colorful pages. Keeping the 'superhero' part of a movie stuck in your head like Vaughn does, will that mean that we'll get all the action and no heart in a franchise like "X-Men" that's been lacking for a few years? Or will he actually pull out the big directing guns with filming this month and be a story teller for these super powered outcasts? We'll find out come June 3rd, 2011.

    Original Article Link
I couldn't agree more. In fact I'm surprised the genre hasn't imploded already under the sheer weight of super movies being made. I mean occasionally having a superhero movie come out is great and mixes it up in Hollywood. But it seems everything coming out nowadays is either based on a comic or graphic novel and often the source material is never honoured and the film is just a cheap imitation.

Matt Reeves is a busy guy at the moment. His upcoming film "Let Me In" is coming out soon so it's a little bit of a surprise to see him get pulled away for a few to be interviewed about other projects.

Although Matt Reeves is known in our heads as the one guy who's directing "Let Me In", his real claim to fame came in form of one huge monster in J.J. Abrams' "Cloverfield". There's been talks of a sequel for a long while, but they've gradually died down. Here's what Reeves said on it in order to start the flame once more.

"It really isn't the moment for [the sequel] to go any further than it has, but it continues to be a priority for both of us," Reeves said. "J.J. is very immersed in putting together 'Super 8.' He's... in pre-production and really, really passionately getting that together. And I'm passionately finishing 'Let Me In.'"

"['Super 8'] is not the 'Cloverfield' sequel. ... There literally is no connection whatsoever [between 'Super 8' and 'Cloverfield']. It's just a really cool idea for a film. I know what [J.J. is] doing and it's amazing."

For those of you who are interested in the Americanized version of "Let the Right One In", Reeves' "Let Me In" slides into theaters on October 1rst.

I can't comment on Super 8 since I haven't seen it. However Cloverfield was horrible in my opinion. It was the epitome of the shaky-cam movie and often I didn't know what the HELL was going on at any given moment in the movie.

Last week we reported that Warner Bros was already batting the idea around about having two sequels for Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern". Apparently they don't want to wait much longer to get things going, since they hired Michael Goldenberg to pen the script for the sequel.

It's not much of a surprise that Warner Bros hired Goldenberg. He helped on one of the re-writes for "Green Lantern" and wrote a treatment with Michael Green and Greg Berlanti for the sequel. Well, we definitely know now that Warner Bros means business. They want to keep DC Entertainment on an even playing field with Marvel Studios, and what better way to do it than chucking out films just as fast as them.

Goldenberg's previous credits include "Contact", the 2003 "Peter Pan" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". "Green Lantern" recently wrapped principal photography in New Orleans. The Martin Campbell directed feature stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, a cocky test pilot who's become the latest part of the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps. Although he's not trusted by many, he's the one person who harnesses the power in order to defeat Parallax.

"Green Lantern" is out in theaters everywhere on June 17th, 2011.

You know I really wish they would stop talking ahead like this about ANY film. I mean speculating or planning sequels to a film that hasn't even come OUT yet seems highly inappropriate since you have no idea if it's going to be a commercial success or not. Also a film should need a REASON to make a sequel because there is more to tell to the story not just 'because'.

Actor Cillian Murphy could be the latest addition to the cast of Andrew Niccol's "I'm.mortal". Murphy might take on the role of an officer in the organization called the Timekeepers that are after Will. Justin Timberlake is still in the middle of negotiations for the lead role of Will, which means he more than likely will end up with the role.

The story, penned by Niccol, focuses on a poor man named Will (Justin Timberlake) who's suddenly given a fortune. He then becomes the target of a murder investigation and kidnaps an heiress (Amanda Seyfried) while on the run. Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing under Strike Entertainment.

  19. What's really sad is when I look at those pictures and I realize how beautiful and creative but ultimately pointless bases are. They are essentially storage areas and teleporters and that's about it. With the rendering of SG computers worthless, raids non-existent, IoP a pipe dream then all the massive potential bases were suppose to be is just wasted programming time. I mean is your friend incredibly creative and has a awesome eye for architecture? Absolutely hands down and told him I said so. But in the end it's all just eye candy and nothing more since the practical applications have all been rendered moot. It's too bad the devs don't have a passion for bases as much as your friend.

Heh well that's not hard to fix. I mean stick his butt inside the hospital in IP or something and do a few rewrites to the story and bingo. You have another TF added to the game which is additional content the players are always scrambling for. I've spoken to Positron about this several times and that was years ago. I guess it's just not a priority which is a pity when you consider how simple it would be to put it back in the game relatively speaking and that it's already content that has been written and is just sitting collecting dust.
  22. I knew it. I always said to both the Devs (in PM's) and everyone else that if this trial ever came back then it would come back as PVE content. The whole IoP thing has essentially collapsed as has most of the content for bases. But that doesn't mean a lot of the hard work that went into making this content can't be salvaged. I'm glad to see they finally got around to converting this into a PVE trial. Now if we can just get them to put the Scott Calvin TF back into the game we'll be good to go. Judging though by how long it took them to bring the CoP trial back then I guess that means Scott will be back in... 2014

Yup. There was so much potential that originally went with the idea of bases such as giant SG vs. VG battles, Item of Power trials, special missions and TF's only accessible via the SG computer, etc. All of those features though have basically died and the likelihood of their resurrection is about as likely as Satan skating to work tomorrow morning. If anything SG bases have done one thing at least for me. It's provided hours and hours of enjoyment giving me the opportunity to make fun of the morons who run SG's and demand that everyone play in SG mode and yet always whined they were broke.

Before the time when they started awarding influence/infamy even while in SG mode it use to be you only got prestige if you were in SG mode and I would laugh myself silly when there were these proud leaders of SG's with a fully tricked out base that did NOTHING and a prestige count of like 2 million next to their name on the SG list and yet were so broke that they bemoaned the fact they couldn't enhance their toons and would spend RL money to buy influence from farmers LOL

I love the idea of a market merge but as someone who has been happily frankenslotting all of my powers for the last 2 weeks Red Side calling the redside market "a complete drought" is a gross exaggeration.
Most definitely I've seen days when those common IO's were that high. Now that's not to say they indefinitely stayed at that price but whenever they fluctuate they never sell for less but always more. Secondly I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that in relation to the blue markets that there is a severe drought in red side merchandise. Ask anyone who frequents the red market with any regularity or more importantly all the red market commentators on the boards who are ecstatic over this merger news and ask them if there is a drought? lol There is only one reason why they are so happy that the markets are being brought together and it sure isn't because of symmetry or anything
