I loved the old Trek fight music in WH13. I wonder if they wrote the episode just so they could have an excuse to play it.
  2. I just picture this guy being told that it was illegal for him to do something, and he responded, "Oh yeah?! Well I'll build my own country! With blackjack! And hookers!"

If my entire civilization had been destroyed by a supernova, and I had gotten thrown back in time, my first priority wouldn't be to take vengeance on the people who were trying to help me. It probably would've been to go and warn my civilization, or maybe try to work on something that could save them.

Still, given that the Romulans in this timeline should be at least semi-aware of their impending doom, having them be a little bit more aggressive as they try to find places that will be safe might not be a bad plot line.
There's some important background information relating to Spock and Nero's relationship, which makes the whole vengeance thing make a bit more sense, that wasn't included in the movie. Nero was the guy who discovered the Hobus supernova, and he tried to work with Spock to come up with a solution to save Romulus. Note: this was after the Romulan Senate decided to ignore Spock's warnings about how dangerous the nova was, and decided to sit around with their thumbs up their *****. And then when Spock failed to convince the Vulcans to help and Romulus blew up, Nero blamed Spock for the death of his wife and unborn child. So that's where the whole revenge thing comes into play.

A smarter man would've gotten his wife to safety first, and then worked on saving his planet. But Nero's obviously not that smart.

If we accept the premise of the JJ-verse trek, the timeline divergence begins at the events around Kirk's birth, and they basically have his entire lifespan to monkey around in.

Just as a thought experiment (because I don't think they should use Khan) but let me posit how I'd do things:

Step 1- sign Javier Bardem to play Khan. A far more dangerous feeling and serious choice than Banderas.

Step 2- Khan and company are found several years earlier. I think it would be cool if they were found by Klingons and sent to a gulag world. Alternatively they could crash land alone on a more hospitable planet than Ceti Alpha turned out to be (what was originally a near miss is this time a crash landing).

Step 3- develop the nightmare scenario that almost happened on Earth and led to Khan's exile. The survivors/prisoners thrive and are in a state of perpetual war, either with each other or their captors.

Step 4- Starfleet gets intel that there are humans on a Klingon gulag world and the Enterprise is sent to help. The meat of the movie and the climax is the war and eventual rescue of Khan at the hands of Kirk. Have them clash, but have a much older and craftier Khan not do anything so preciptous as mutiny. The movie ends with Kirk and Khan as something approaching friends.

Step 5- Khan and his surviving cohort end up concealing their origins and spending the span between the 2nd and 3rd movie learning all about the modern Federation universe. From that point on, anything is possible. A 3rd movie could be an epic betrayal and in this universe, it's Kirk who ends up with the all consuming vendetta against Khan.

This is nearly appealing enough to me to want to see it happen. It's excellent juxtaposition and has the feel of telling a much more epic Kirk v Khan story than any single movie could.
That's not bad, but it seems like something more suited to a TV series than movies. IMO, the payoff would take too long for movies.

Personally, I would settle for a throw away line in a Kirk/Spock conversation. Like they found the debris of the Bottany Bay in an asteroid field or something and it looked like it was thrown wildly off course by all of the black hole shenanigans from the last movie.

    Eureka no more

As long as they wrap up the Beverly/Consortium thread, I'll probably be happy. I've wanted closure on that since it was dropped after the second season. Also, I want to know what happened to Callie Curie (who briefly dated Jack then disappeared) and Spencer Martin (who was Henry's assistant and then disappeared).

They only undid the good series. And Voyager.

No contest, I'd much rather see an original story for the next movie. They've gone through all this trouble to set up a new universe to breathe new life into the franchise and introduce Star Trek to a new generation, so why would they go back and rehash the old stories? I mean, if I want to watch Khan in action, then I'm going to break out my DVDs and watch the original Space Seed or Wrath of Khan. I don't want to see some watered-down, Star-Warsey remake, I want the real thing. It'd be much better if they came up with a new story to tell rather than try to shoehorn one of the old ones into a remake.

edit: Also, the first JJTrek was more or less a WoK remake anyway. Except, you know, worse.

I wouldn't stop with a beer and a chat, I'd go out on a date with her. I'd take her to some nice, secluded place in the mountains for a romantic getaway in my luxury car fueled by fairy dust and dreams.

Indeed. I'm curious whether Keller is going to end up being Neil's way out of the whole treasure situation. Neil and Mozzie could easily set him up with the bulk of the stolen loot, including the items on the manifest.

Which is the arrangement we have at the moment IIRC, it costs substantially less than an actual space program but means we have to hitch rides on other peoples.
Wait, I thought the British used Reliant Robin-based shuttle technology. There was a documentary about it and everything.

    Ghost Story

Most of the public libraries don't have their copies circulating yet, so I haven't had a chance to read it. Took me six blasted months to get the last one, so it could be a while
  21. Looks like a big ol' pile of Meh to me.
  22. Saw the movie today and really enjoyed it (apart from the idiot who felt it necessary to clap for every action scene). I loved the fight choreography for Cap and his shield.
  23. Loved Eureka and Warehouse 13. I said it last week, but it bears repeating. Felicia Day is just so damn cute.

Loved seeing Rene Auberjonois come back. I'm used to seeing him as Odo, but seeing him in that really playful role is great. Spotted a minor case of Did Not Do the Research for the writers regarding how the street numbers in SLC work (mostly a nomenclature thing, especially with tourists/visitors), and now I can feel slightly superior to a group of people I've never met
