Quote:The 1966 Batmobile was the Lincoln Futura concept car, modified of course. We have a winnah!!!!!!!!!!!!! My BS meter damn near burned out as soon as that last dude started running his mouth. I bet both theses cars would be hard pressed to bust out of the 15s and do more than 130 (and thats being generous).
IIRC the 60's era Batmobile is based on a Ford chassis and I think the 80's era car is based on a caprice chassis. Really the most advanced car is the Tumbler, it has way more engineering in it than either of its predecessors.
Plus, since they said in the video that the last guy built both Batmobiles and since he's obviously not an octogenarian and couldn't possibly have been old enough to build the '66 car, it's pretty likely that both cars are replicas. Dunno if that means he's not spouting a lot of BS, but it does mean that the cars in the video aren't exactly the same as the originals. -
Seems like the Adam West Batmobile would weigh less, since it doesn't have the machine guns and grapplers and such, giving it an advantage in power-to-weight.

I think it was brought up on the forums several months ago, but After the Golden Age is an enjoyable superhero novel, as well as a quick read (this is the only book I've read so quickly that I tried to figure out exactly how long it took me to finish; I think it was around 6 hours).

I was thinking of something involving some sort of large, black insectoid machines that come to reap all life on planets with space-faring civilizations. Perhaps they could do this on some sort of cyclical time scale, say once every 50,000 years.

Cool, but not what I was expecting.

Quote:Plan B:The whole premise of the show made my brain hurt. You have an ongoing ecological disaster and your Plan A is TIME TRAVEL? What the heck was Plan B that made Plan A the more plausible solution?
Scientist: So the time travel plan is on the table. Any other suggestions?
Flunky: Plan B! Set FIRE TO THE SUN!
Scientist: ...plan A it is then.

There's a link to it in the video's information. Last I checked, they'd raised almost four times more money than they'd set as their goal.

Quote:Rejected, eh? Although, looking through the list, that stuff looks like it could be Think Geek's entire Spring line. Some pretty funny ones there but the Han Solo in carbonite popsicle maker is the best lol.

Quote:This is why I've never been a fan of literature classes. Analyzing any literary work just feels pointless unless you can talk with author and discuss his or her intent, and then compare and contrast that to how you've interpreted the work.Quite frequently a story (or any work of art, really) can be analyzed, praised and condemned for possessing elements that the author did not intend.
Quote:I'm a fan of the World As Myth belief. Basically, all stories exist somewhere in the multiverse. I'd like to think that when we "write" a story, some facet of ourselves either exists in that universe and we're channeling, for lack of a better term, something that happened there. -
I think they've been saying in the promo-hype for ME3 that all of the decisions through the first two games represent around 1,000 variables for the final game. Part of the reason I'm so looking forward to ME3 (aside from being a fan of the series and wanting to see how it wraps up) is that I want to see how some of the decisions from ME1 play out.

Did MEs 1 and 2 on Xbox, so to I'll be sticking with it for all of my saved game data. Plus, I think Mass Effect would make my computer have a nervous breakdown.

I grew up listening to oldies, and the Monkees made a lot of my favorites. So long, Mr. Jones. Thanks for the music.

Quote:Merida suggests that the lad would be happier tossing cabers, her father chiming in that perhaps holding up bridges would also be satisfactory to the boy.On reflection, my take makes little sense, but I initially thought Merida was talking about the lad wishing he was eating instead of shooting, as in "tossin' (back) kippers." Admittedly, that'd be a strange pronunciation, even accounting for the accent. I then thought the king followed up with "An' loadin' up fridges," which makes all kinds of no sense. If he was wishing he was eating, he'd be emptying fridges, of course, not filling them, notwithstanding the use of a slang term for a device that wouldn't be invented for hundreds of years yet. Something to do with bridges makes more sense, but what? Holding them up, as MentalMaden suggested? Dunno. But I am stoked by this clip.

Quote:The way I see it, the Cars franchise is Pixar's way of pulling a Matt Groening. Groening's real creative outlet is his Life in Hell comic strip. He was offered the chance to turn it into a series of animated shorts for Tracy Ullman, but chose instead to create the Simpsons for that purpose. So he has the Simpsons, which he's been able to pimp and sell for... geeze, going on 30 years, and that lets him do his Life in Hell strip, which is what he really cares about.Hey, whatever lets Pixar make awesome movies. It's not like Pixar owes us anything. They're a business, they require money to continue churning out quality stories, and the employees there need to eat, sleep, pay bills, and all around live. Plus, from what I can tell, kids loved Cars and Cars 2, so I'm not seein' the problem.
Cars is Pixar's Simpsons. It's the property they can pimp out with merchandise to keep the stock holders nice and happy so that the Pixar writers/producers can work on stuff that they really care about. -
Quote:Never! Not until The Great Train Robbery 3D re-release!I saw a poster in the theater for frickin' TITANIC in 3D rerelease into the theaters. This stuff has got to stop.

Good. Honestly, what's the point of setting up a new universe to play in if the writers are just going to rehash old stories? If I wanted to see classic Trek with better special effects, I'd just watch Star Trek Remastered.

Quote:Well, Ivanova is an experienced commander with years of military service and Amy Pond is a redheaded Scotswoman.Well, all righty then, let's go this way:
In this corner, Amy Pond. In that corner, Commander Susan Ivanova.
Get to it, ladies!
/Ivanova would totally win... right?
I'm going with Amy Pond here.
Assuming, of course, that Amy doesn't successfully seduce Ivanova. And you know she could. -
Yes, but the US market is pretty big. If the BBC would use their American cable affiliate to stream more British shows, they could potentially get a lot more revenue from DVD sales and the like. Plus, there's always the online advertising money.
