(I saw one of em stay around 600M for a while. Apoc triple, maybe?)
Yeah I had to take advantage of that and craft a couple of Apoc triples for a cool 1.1 billion. Oh the bitter tears of the unwashed are so sweet on the tongue.

I called technical support. Apparently there was something on their end having to do with 'bad port feeds' which they found within a couple of hours. They were thankful because they said it would have been effecting other people as well.

Must have tried 200 times and gets stuck on Connecting.. #1...#2...#3 and so on. Doesn't seem to matter which machine as it is happening on all of my four PCs. Internet is up and running fine.
Any ideas?

I just want to bump this because in the 10 weeks since reading Fury Flechette's 'One Week' journal/guide I have influence capped two different toons and am over halfway there on a third with very little effort really (10-15 min a day). I'm really enjoying the mini-game and what it has added to have funds available for the higher end builds.
I have been tring to get my circle of regulars to try it and a couple are dabbling now. It's very, very weird to be the 'wealthy friend' in our little gang, but I keep telling folks to just read up a little and take a risk. I have offered to seed them some inf to get started to take away the 'risk factor' for them. Again, "Big Kudos" to those encouraging types here who are regular sages for us newcomers.
Cheers -
With solid resists I think you're sacrificing too much to get to the S/L softcap. The attacks are underslotted for my taste on what I think would be offensive-minded combination. I would do something like this, which is going to allow you 'arrest' much better and still be very survivable with nearly 41% S/L.
Cheers

Like Rangle said, Jacob's Ladder is a pretty nice cone that is pretty easy to hit 3-4 foes with.
I really like Chain Induction since they buffed it a few issues back - it seems like it jumps a lot more often that it used to when I leveled up my Elec/Elec brute back in I8. My sense is that it plays a lot better than what it looks like on paper and it's fun to see it jump around from target to target.
I would be willing to bet that if you chose Elec Melee you will not be disappointed. I think Dark/Elec would be na interesting combination as I loved Dark Armor overall and consider it to be very sturdy once you get IOs in it.
Cheers -
I would do something more like this to up your F/C and S/L defense. I would try to find a way to work Quicksand in if you were going to go Earth mastery, but I was trying to not re-work your powers too much. I grabbed Hurl so that you could have one ranged power to grab runners and it boosts nice E/NE def and recovery nicely.
Cheers

Hey I stumbled across this thread as I was looking to work on my build for my Crab which will be going Rogue in the coming weeks and thought I would throw a build out. It grabs Hasten and is looking to getas much defense as possible. It grabs the Mace Mastery for the Blaster pet in lieu of the squishy -2s in Spiderlings.
MindArc, if you are looking for a fairly tankinsh build this should be fairly sturdy with 1950 HP and these positional defense numbers:
Melee: 40.4%
Ranged: 44.4%
AoE: 45.0%
I wish it had more regen but not much is going to hitting anyway. It also forgoes a Travel power relying on Ninja Run and some RunSpeed bonus from GoTA sets. Upside is that it should be pretty darn cheap to build also.
It'm still tinkering based on what I am seeing in some other threads as well, but here is what I am working toward as someoen who also wants a kind of Tankerish Crab.
Cheers

Quote:With those goals in mind, I would do something like this which gets you better survivability for far, far less cost. Purples don't do a ton for tanks anyway. There are places you could increase the performance slightly with a HUGE increase in cost, but I would guess this build could be done for under 300 mill and be fantastic in the overall game for you.I have played him to lvl 50 already I working on his alt build. After reading some of your posts I have shifted my focus into the "defense soft-cap for S/L/E/NE as a primary goal and HP/regen/recharge as a secondary goal"(Finduilas). Inf isn't really an issue, and not trying to make uber build(purped out). Just wanna be able to survive a mob and still be ready for the next. He will be in plenty of TFs and farms..Msg me if you need anymore info. And ty for your feedback and advice thus far (keep it coming).
In addition to capped S/L resist about 32% E/N/F/C resist, it grants you
Defense:
45.5% S/L
42.4% E/N
35.2% F/C
10.6% PSI
I would spend the rest of my inf on finding ways to get some more recharge into the build. Unless fly is a major part of the toon concept I would see about relying on Ninja Run for a travel power and find a way to work Hasten in to get Dull Pain up quicker and/or generally find more recharge in places that do not mess with my defense numbers.
Cheers
EDIT: Forgot about the Cytos when citing the cost. It shoudld be pretty cheap outside of the Cytos and Numina unique.

Thanks for the reply. I find the sleep powers mostly junk when teaming because of things like you mention. They are awesome solo and also a great set mule for a cheap Purple set.
I love the smash of Earth Assault and I was building for defense to get into melee and use the big hitters and AoEs. Entangle is largely a set mule for some nice S/L defense in that build.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback and your experience. I like the Plant/Earth theme as well and do find the toon fun to play.
Cheers -
Hey All,
I am currently running a Plant/Earth lowbie and I really like it so far and am looking forward to seeing it mature. Feels pretty strong even just in the low teens with Seeds, Roots and Tremor. It's more aggro than I can handle most times so I need to be careful.
I chose /Earth over Thorns because I have a 50 Spines scrapper and they look nearly identical as damage sets. I don't see a lot of talk in the forums about the combo and haven't seen one in game. Did I miss something that makes the combo gimp or otherwise crappy? It really fit a theme I was going for and I like it a lot.
It would be for me to use with my team of 4-6 regular and we 99% are PvE. I was going for Perma-dom and high defense so I can stay in melee and mix it up.
I am designing a build plan for it, since it looks like I will follow through with him. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Cheers

What do you plan doing with this build in the game? PvP? PvE? I don't really understand what you want to build for here aside from HP/DMG and low end. We can give you some more specific feedback with more information about what your goals are.
Fundamentally, you missed Temp Invulnerability completely and you didn't take Fighting Pool so your resists are very, very low on a combo that can cap S/L resists (which is many people's goal when going with INV). That's your main resist toggle, so definitely find a way to work that in.
You will never be able to use all those attacks which means you have a number of wasted power picks in the build. I would say get focused on your concept better and grab your signature primary power (TI) and drop Flurry. That's a waste of a power pick with TI sitting on the shelf there.
I would strongly suggest that you look at Call Me Awesome's guides to get an idea about build approaches if you are serious about being an effective INV tank in PvE. Beyond that, give us some idea about what you plan to do with the character and we will be able to give you some build advice as to those plans.
Cheers -
I don't think a Thugs concept it too far fetched at all. I think of my Thugs/Traps MM 'Unlicensed Uzi' is the head of a small band of Vigilantes fighting against 'The Man' and operate with a bit of a maniacal crusader mentality. A little chaos and mayhem follow in his wake, but he's not evil to the core by any means. It's a little more like 'Chaotic Good' for those of you familiar with PNP game alignments. He's not an outright upstanding hero to be sure, but he's no villain.

Congrats to the Dev team on an excellent launch. I sincerely hope it attracts thousands of new subscribers and I eagerly await the coming on future issues.

I like the 'Battle Cry' idea quite a lot, so kudos to whoever conceived that. The DEVs most likely will not want a force multiplier, but if they were to do this, perhaps we could suggest a different version of Battle Cry that affects the defense and resistance of the aggroed mobs and buffs teammates.
Say, something along the lines of this:
Tanker Inherent: AURA OF BATTLE
Written description:
The tanker is empowered by the spirit of battle. For every individual foe aggroed on the tank, the tank emits a Battle Aura that draws the attention of the foes, distracts them and makes them more vulnerable and emboldening his teammates.
Numeric Effects:
40' radius of effected mobs (normal Taunt range applies)
A) +.5% defense debuff per mob all damage types
B) +1% damage resistance debuff per mob all damage ypes
C) +.5% Critical hit bonus all ATs with critical hit mechanics
D) +1% Fury/Defiance/Vigilance generation efficiency per mob for ATs with these mechanics
Example:
Tanker is surrounded by 10 mobs ALL of which are aggroed to him/her
Battle Aura provides the following in a 40' radius around the tanker
5% defense debuffs (all damage types)
10% damage resistance debuff (all damage types)
+5% Critical hit bonus for Scrapper, Stalkers, Dominators and Controllers in the 40' sphere
+10% Fury/Vigilance/Defiance/Supremecy generation gain
A brute with 50% Fury sees his/her Fury boosted to 55% upon entering the 40' sphere
They could make it a new inherent passive that works a new form of Gauntlet.
Given the effects, probably a fairer solution would be to give it the Domination mechanics 200s recharge and 90s uptime, or perhaps something slightly different for flavor. Durations could depend somewhat on what th DEVs see tankers doing in the new content moving forward. Something like 40s uptime and 100s recharge if they saw it as a shorter term mechanic. My preference would be that they make it more like 120s uptime and 300s recharge as a nice team buff for future AV and GM (dare I say Galactic?) battles in future, more difficult content.
In this inheresnt, a second tanker becomes potentially a very attractive team member, especially as teams working strategically to have dual tankers working separate spawns with the team members positioned in between. Extrapolate this to a triangle strategy where the core team sits in the middle of three tanks each at the corners of a triangle.
Our controller, scrapper, stalker, dominator, corrupter teammates love us because we are helping them make more Crits.
Our defender, blaster, brute and MM friends love us because it aids in their inherent values.
A much simpler version if the DEVs do not feel that they would want Tanks having any force multiplier capabilities would be to simply have A) and B) not work as debuffs but buffs for the tanker. This is not as attractive because it does not solve the "more than one tank on a team is suboptimal" problem, rather exacerbates it somewhat as the tanks will be splitting the available aggro.
I'm probably off my rocker, but I think something like could work and be valuable to the team overall. The Battle Cry mechanic is very good as well, and I recall really appreciating that at the time I read it.
Cheers
EDIT: Fixed a couple of typos -
Hi twelfth,
I will reply with some thoughts although there are several of the Ice/ tank vets around who I hope chime in as well.
Most defense sets tend to be late bloomers, but Ice does pretty well right out of the gate I think. It's easy to softcap your defenses to all types of damage except Psi through your primary powers by just adding CJ, Weave and the Steadfast +3% def IO.
Once you get into the mid to late 30s, most things will not be hitting you much. That said there will be enemies that hit you hard, particularly ones the debuff defense like the rad robots in Tina Mcintyre's arc. When they do, that is what Hoarfrost is for, so take that early and slot it up well by the mid 30s.
I would urge you to take Energy Absorption as soon as it available and frankenslot it for recharge, defense and end mod. This is a great defense boost and end recovery to you that also drains end from the foes.
You have the benefit of TWO aggro auras at your disposal rather than just one and I would recommend both. Because of this, many Icers go without Taunt. I took taunt because I like having it for bosses/AVs and Taunt sets have great bonuses but legit arguments exist for and against Taunt.
Icicles is a nice damage aura that I would delay until after stamina as it's a rather large end drain compared to some damage auras - not the worst but still significantly draining.
Chilling Embrace on the other hand is lighter on end so take right away and get an end reduction in it. It's a great aggro tool that has a very nice -damage aspect that helps quietly but meaningfully to your survivability. It also has a significant slow potential which you can play around with in slotting but I have dropped the slows as it makes gathering/herding more difficult and time consuming.
Otherwise, have fun with your secondary looking for ways to grab some typed defenses bonus and recharge. Hoarfrost will cap your HP without a lot of other bonus so don't make HP a primary build focus over defense and recharge.
If you would like specific build help, many on here are awesome with build advice so feel free to post a build plan.
Cheers -
What are your goals Mage? You want Perma-Hasten and are willing to sacrifice some defense for it, so you can have close to no downtime on Energize?
Or, are you okay with some downtime on Hasten in order to help out some other things like defense?
Here is a no-holds barred recharge build that sports Perma-Hasten and only 3 seconds downtime on Energize, although it sacrifices on defense to do it.
I wouldn't worry too much about endurance problems with Power Sink up every 18s.

On the other hand, if you were willing to sacrifice a little recharge you could really up your survivability a lot with a build like the one below. It gives up 16s of downtime to Hasten and thus adds 3s of downtime to Energize. What it gets in return is 41% S/L defense.
Anyway, hope these spark some thoughts for you.
Cheers

Hey Aett,
I threw this together for you. It gets you 129% recharge with hasten. I know you said you weren't looking for defense, but it does have 27% S/L in it.
Healing Flames is up in 12.5s and Power Siphon has nearly 50% uptime with a 41s recharge - you could shave off another 3-4 second here but I didn't like what I had to give up recharge wise to get there - you could also just bag the Rectified Reticles in favor of Recharge Commons but that's such a tasty 1.8% S/L def I can't resist on just about any melee toon.
It could get a little pricey, but it uses no purples at all, although it does have two LoTG +7.5s in it and two Obliteration sets.
It will require you to be EVIL for a little while to get that Mu Mastery Patron set for Elec Fences and Ball Lightning. That is such a nice set to have to ST-oriented melee sets and fit nicely.
Anyway, hope this has a few thought provokers four you,
Cheers

Here is my current build. I'm sure it can be improved upon, but I didn't pour a ton of inf into him. I got the Oblit quad ad a drop and I scavenged from the Numina unique from a toon I never play.
It plays great for a relatively cheap build. There are some very easy slots where recharge could be gained if you wanted to drop the inf for LoTG +7.5s.
Defense:
Melee: 49.1%
Ranged: 47.9%
AoE: 46.6%
Recharge: 80% with Hasten
Recovery: 3.4 /s
EndDrain: .62 /s
I will let the real experts reply but this build may give you a sense for a toon that was very study and playable for pretty cheap.
Cheers

I hear ya. It's cool you are able to deal with Carnies like that no problem. I can see that helping out quite a bit. I took a similar approach to making my Elec/Elec brute tougher and it was pretty successful. There is just so much S/L in the game it's hard for me not to build for it.
My guy is mostly a ticket hound now and unfortunately doesn't see a lot of play anymore outside the occasional ITF. He's a blast to play and just mows down probably 80% or more of what's out there. Carnies hurt and Rikti hurt a bit.
Brak's build is definitely very nice melee defense one - good luck with your process and let us know how it works out.
Cheers -
Nice build, Brak. I agree with you about the +HP as a goal for Fire tanks and did not explicitly mention that in my comments.
Here is my build which goes for S/L defense if the OP decides to go that route. It can be improved in spots, and I am still waiting to grab the Kinetic Combat Dam/End and triple for more reasonable costs to slot in Incinerate and get another 1.8% S/L defense.
This one has 2522 HP with IOs and Accolades in addition to the 38.4% S/L defense and 69% Resist. I re-worked this build when the changes to fire were announced to work in Consume in place of Quicksand.
Cheers

I like it. I can't imagine my build without Fault, but you may find Hurl Boulder fits your playstyle better. I find it to be a great opener and just love bouncing the bad guys on their butts as the team gets set up to wipe them out. It's also a great mule for the very cheap (relatively) purple set Absolute Amazement.
Otherwise, I don't have much to say. I like it and think you will have fun with it.

Resistance isn't nearly as beneficial as defense, so I would strongly recommend building a beast by focusing on layering more defense on top of your resistances. In that vein, seems to me that you are mixing typed and positional sets and not get enough bang for your buck. If it were me, I would concentrate more heavily on building up S/L or melee and building from there, probably S/L is a bit easier for a tank.
As S/L is the most prevalent type of enemy attack we face in the game, my Fire/Fire tank is built around S/L and has about 38% total. Made a huge difference getting from about 15% to 38%.
Fire damage obviously isn't a concern and cold is too rare to be more than an occasional threat and that's what a quick recharging Healing Flames is for. As such, I would drop the Aegis sets in favor of four-slotted Reactive Armors. And I wouldn't bother with the fifth slot as the paltry fire/cold defense isn't worth the slot commitment IMO. The Scirocco's Dervish wouldn't be my first choice for the AoE powers - look at others that might get you more defense in the types and positions that matter. I like 3-4 slots of Eradication there for max end, E/NE def and hit points - or Obliterations are nice for melee defense (or expensive S/L).
With that done, I would look at adding two more Kinetic Combat sets (if you can afford them) for your ST attacks which don't already have them. You may find you want the recharge from the Crushing Impacts, but I would trade that for the extra defense personally.
Re-slotting with the Reactive Armors will help free up some slots to better slot Blazing Aura and Fireball which are underslotted IMO compared to RoTP which is overslotted. You might find you have enough slots to get a Kinetic Combat set into Boxing.
Personally, I would find a way to pick up Build Up and slot it with a couple of Rectified Reticles and a generic recharge.
Cheers
