For maximum carnage please please please deactivate the police drones, and allow the Rikti to appear inside the AE buildings.

Yay! Here's my "me too" story:
I recently joined a new SG (Feline Fellowship) on a new Server (new to me, naturally) Triumph. It inspired me to make a new character (yet another TriFormShade, I know, not very original) who has teamed with the SG members in several Scanner runs and I'll admit, some awesome fun Demon Farm.
For the first time in a long time, I had fun creating a new character, making a two costumes for it (it's Lv29, so soon I'll get a 3rd costume slot... YAY!) and a BIO!! (now that linebreaks actually work again in biography textfields, thank the Devs)
So yeah, the game isn't dead. Hurrah! -

Well, then get on the dev's [censored] to not ship out buggy tools with creative freedoms that can be easily abused and no way to stop people from abusing them?

Had they simply added in a few key features like not allowing single-mob groups, we wouldn't have this problem quite as much.
[/ QUOTE ]
What do you think I was screaming at them in Open Beta? Here's a hint: "IT'S NOT READY YET!", and of course they listened!
By the way, single-mob groups aren't really the problem in my opinion. The real problem is that most MMOs' at least by contemporary design do not reward players based on how much effort/risk the player had to face when defeating enemies. That's the root cause why most exploits are even possible. -
I think we're beyond the point where the Devs would even consider removing XP from "normal" user-created content that was published. Seriously now...
-
Sometimes I lead, other times I follow... oftentimes I'm just lazy so I go read a book, watch a TV-show or movie or play some single-player RPG.
I'm still sad about AE though and being not-lazy and playing TF's, alas, won't cure my sadness... you know...? -
You're right about not being able to affect the story in a AE story-arcs, but it doesn't *have* to stay that way.
Also, stories were originally told without text what-so-ever... you know? -

Just imagine Atlas Park, already loaded with AE children, during an invasion. And the panic when some of them come out of AE into Atlas Park 2 and cant see thier buddies.

Woo Hoo! for chaos.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly why the Devs are bringing them out of the closet again... -
About the team teleport, I agree, it should go, but I'd like it to be replaced by a power that teleports you to whoever in your team you anchor it to.
About your Superb Mobility idea, I'm /signed nor /unsigned actually, sorry. -

Your argument seems to attack itself. Yes, people like levelling. But not everyone gets bored the second they hits cap. thats why most mmos have MOST of their timesinks at cap to keep you playing. CoH encourages alt-itis. Either way, capping a character doesnt mean burnout, else the devs would NEVER make it easier to level.
[/ QUOTE ]
I assume Devs' in MMOs' make it easier to level to lure new/casual subscribers to the playfield rather than make it easier for higher level characters to level faster.
Granted that with CoX altitis is encouraged, especially because of the gameplay mechanics that seem to be fun, simple to grasp, yet allow enough "what-if" customizations to ones' character so things are at least somewhat exciting.
However... the Devs' are *trying* to invigorate the story/content aspects of the game first with AE, and in the future with Going Rogue. If the Devs' were only counting on those subscribers that play CoX as a leveling game for its' *DING* factor, why then should they bother with content anyway?!
EDIT :: Don't get me wrong, I'm not against farming and I'm not against power-leveling, and I'm not against min/maxing. I am against lying and claiming that these activities have ZERO effect on others in the community who do not engage in them. AE simply expedites these scenarios where the Devs fix an AE-exploit that was datamined or reported, and the cure is worse than the disease as far as I'm concerned as a story-author because it directly affects what I can and cannot do with the tool itself. -
You're absolutely right Socorro, and that's probably why I never bother to learn to play a Human-only Kheldian. I mean, of course I could, but like you say, why bother?

If i wanted a REAL story, I'd read a book.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, but I don't care about you, I *want* a story in my games and if I can affect that story, even better! -
In my opinion and experience, the difference is in the exposure level and how it skews Devs' perception and may trigger game-changes that are a) modifying the games in ways that are annoying to AE authors; b) simply wouldn't have been required had the Devs' originally limited AE by-design.
Not everyone has a DA/* tank to take to the ITF, and not everyone stops to think about min/maxing the ITF by using a DA/* tank. It's simply the ease of use with which one can access a specially made farming-mission that was crafted to min/max RvR that eventually triggers the Devs' response.
I personally lament the exclusion of several graphic animations that I could use in the past for Allies in my AE missions. I have absolutely no doubt that those animations were taken out to prevent AE farming missions from excessively marking Allies in those out-door maps (admittedly something I have done as well in my own story-arc) so that it'd be easier and faster to farm! -

IMO, changing play styles so radically (via respecs) so late in a build is almost akin to being able to switch another toon's AT at level 40 or so, something I've heard most people say is not a good idea because "then you won't know how to play it".
[/ QUOTE ]
In my opinion, it allows you to re-learn and get re-acquainted with your "new" character... new fun from an old toon is always good in my book. Now if only I could get myself to actually follow-up on my opinion and actually use my 2nd build on my PB/WS characters for Human-only... -

Bright Nova worth it after lvl 30?
[/ QUOTE ]
Since it's still awesome fun for me to defeat two Lv50 CoT Death Mages solely with my Bright Nova on my Lv50 TriFormPB, I'd say it's definitely worth my power-picks and slotting.
From the practical point of view, if you're teaming with other AT's that allow you to actually remain in Bright Nova and simply blast with impunity, it's even more fun!
And... finally, If you consider all the fun Chance to XXX IO's you can slot in your Bright Nova attacks, it can be a source of joy to just watch what happens when several of those IO's proc together! -
Wow Siolfir... I totally misread the OP. Thanks for the heads-up. I, and my OP, stand corrected with apologies to the threads' OP.
-
I'd like to add on top of what Aett Thorn just said... that if a system like that were offered, in no time, we'd be playing "City of Superpowered Clichés" and that's totally not the game I subscribed to, not to mention the balancing nightmare that would have to follow just so the game can be entertaining on a level higher than "Click the I-Win button of your choice".
-
If the collection-object in question is the first goal of the mission, then there's nothing more you can currently do to change things. If not, then try to edit your story-arc file in notepad or any other text editor, after making backups naturally, and carefully re-order the mission-goals so that the collection-object becomes the first goal of the mission... and again, if that change doesn't do the trick, there's nothing more to do at this time.
Selecting a different map may work of course, but it may influence the whole mission negatively by destroying the immersion factor if for example you require that particular map because of the missions' theme.
Good luck anyway, and hang in there... hopefully things will change for the better Soon -

Hey Joe...
EDIT :: Wow... sorry, I dunno what I was thinking when I miss-read the OP. Consider this a post deleted with my sencirest appologies to the OP, and thanks to Siolfir for pointing out my confusion! -
Lets not kid ourselves here. What keeps most humans doing what they do, both IRL and especially in RPG's both single-player and MMOs' is the *DING!* factor. WoW knows it very well, and NCSoft has proven that at least with CoX, they know it too every time they "smooth-out" XP rewards into positive gain.
So, if for most people it's all about the *DING!* the faster you get to a situation where there's no more *DING!*, the faster those people essentially figure out that any gameplay activity they do eventually is futile, or at least a lot less entertaining because there's no more *DING!*
In other words, no *DING!*, no subscription... and believe me, I personally already took several breaks after getting to Lv50 with some of my characters. I happen to come back because I do like the game mechaincs more than the *DING!* itself... this also keeps me playing my Kheldians even after they're Lv50... but how much longer does one stay after there's no more *DING!* and other games out there offer their own *DING!* factor?! -

Just go easy on difficulty scaling and do a lot of testing because I think it may be very frustrating to be hit by a WarMace and be drained by Electricity -
LOL... what did you think I was going to say about the Medicine Pool?
