Indeed. I'm still working on a purple plan...
I was actually thinking about getting rid of Dawn Strike because I dislike powers that come with a crash, and I couldn't afford any more slots for Dawn Strike, at least not right now.
The 2nd build has it, but it's totally empty at the moment without any enhancements. It may stay empty, because quite frankly, Ascendantia seems good enough as she is. -
Quote:I remember him saying that!Dammit, just last night I was saying in game that I was steering clear of this debate.
That's what I'd like to know as well. I mean, sure, if you're solo-ing, it may matter, or if you're crazy enough to run with an All Kheldian team, your build matters, but for most Kheldians out there who are teaming with others... what should concern us as a community, is to get those Kheldians out of that "Ohh Quant/Void/Cyst! Kill it quick guys, I'll hang back here till it's safe"
OK, that was an exaggeration, I'm sure... but hey, we've all seen those guys before. -
y-so-srs?!
EDIT :: OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I got it, sorry, sorry... my bad, you guys were PvP'ing! Carry on...

So did Zute come to SG night last night? and... how does Zute like Ascendantia's build?

I'm in the Open Beta for now, and probably will get the lifetime subscription. They don't currently seem to have Kheldians, but they do let you choose your own powers, and you can have blasts of several types and the freedom to mix and match is intoxicating at the moment, despite your ability to make a truly gimped character.
That said, the Umbra Illuminati did hold its All Kheldian SG night last night, and we ran a few missions before each going our separate ways.
I'm going to enjoy playing both CoX and CO because they're both different and supply different Superhero needs for me. If you can afford it, it seems like a win/win, and if you're in for the long run on both games, I recommend getting a lifetime subscription for CO, and a yearly (+2 free months) subscription for CoX.
And then... there's StarTrek Online and SW:ToR... oiy!

OK... I'm pulling back from this discussion guys. Kheldians will not get solo-friendly Human-form mez-protection other than Break Free inspirations and the Devs have made that clear that's a design decision they simply do not want to break.
Being an avid TriFormer with every Kheldian I make has shown me one thing: we (TriFormers) are TankMages in fact, even when we solo, until such time as something goes wrong (95% of the time because we simply miscalculated, and probably 5% of the time its lag) and the transformation doesn't happen before we die.
-
You know Alien... maybe that's the picture you should show Obsidian so that he can realize how much INF you've put into your build and how the set bonuses actually supplement your Human-only 'Shade.
-
I often contemplate the visual image of just forcing the enemy (the Kite) to follow the player (the Kiter) by using the kite's string (repeated ranged attacks)... and it brings me great pleasure when I'm Nova-kiting Lv54 Bosses in AE farm runs!

Quote:The emphasized part is exactly the reason why I've always maintained that Kheldians were never based on a strict copy of the melee AT templates, and should therefore never be measured against, or compared with Scrappers/Tankers!...Some people are for human form mez protection, some are against. I personally still don't get having self-res shields and numerous melee attacks (especially PBs) without any mez protection.
Quote:...It's counter-intuitive in my opinion. I think it's a design flaw that could have been addressed when they made adjustments to Kheldians a while back.
Quote:...I like what we have now, but this would open up the AT to more players who want to go human-only.
What's the point to having a character that can protect itself sufficiently from both melee and ranged attacks, and can use both melee and ranged attacks? This brings us straight back to this whole TankMage discussion, does it not?
You also saidQuote:As it stands right now you could run a tankmage with Cosmic Balance. Just run with 4 controllers and 3 scrappers and you'll have all the mez and extra resistance you'll need (added to the shields).
Don't you think it possible that if Human-only Kheldians had mez-protection, that would actually kill off much of the incentive to actually play a shape-shifting Kheldian?
I think in light of this, Castle is wrong... I think that had Human-only Kheldians been given mez-protection outside what they can already get, Dwarf and Nova would find themselves without any use.
-
Quote:You can already accomplish this functionality by using separate bind-files one for each form which change the bindings to execute the desired powers, or by changing power-trays when you switch forms and organizing your powers for each form on the corresponding tray in such a way that Human/Nova blasts use the same keys. With regard to the powers matching between humanoid and forms, I think the devs should make them macro like...
/macro Blast "powexecname Luminous Blast$$powexecname Bright Nova Blast"
So that the one icon/power would activate whichever power is available to that form, if that power was selected...
I think that it is possible that usingCode:/macro Blast "powexecname Blast"
If anything, it would be nice if the Devs tightened the whole concept of using binds and macros in the game, as well as include Kheldian keyboard template layouts, but since Kheldians are just too few, I doubt the Devs would do any of this and so we must rectify these issues ourselves. -

Quote:On a Warshade, if Human-form had mez-protection, and before I13, people would use Dwarf just for its Black Dwarf Mire, so giving Human-form mez-protection would definitely mean a decrease in Black Dwarf usage.I've been told flat out in a PM by Castle that there aren't any plans to grant Kheldians with any human form mez protection. He said it would "obviate" Dwarf form...and no one would use or take that power (I disagree) if we had mez protection in human form.
At first, I thought that on a Human-only PB, you might be right Soilent, but then I went to Mids and played a little and got a "build" that without sets, started at 10% defense and 28% resists to everything but toxic/Psi damage. Add to this what sets could add, and Human-form mez protection, and whatever values the PB would get from Cosmic Balance, and you'd be looking at a tank mage, at least that's the impression I got.
So, why would anyone want to restrict themselves by using White Dwarf at all when they can make a tank mage? I wonder... -
Quote:Which may decrease in many, the need to even use the form, thus leading to a Human/Dwarf mentality that treats Dwarf as yet another shield that simply blocks away all ranged attacks. Yay for the new would-be FToM and City of Conforming Kheldians. But it wouldn't decrease *any* utility in your human form. If you're sharing slots between Form and Human attacks, then you essentially have the same slotting left over for Utility. The difference is that your Human form would have a little extra Ooomph on top of it.
True, and to me, playing a shape-shifting class is all about shifting between your comfort zones which means you momentarily sacrifice and restrict your comfort in one zone to increase your comfort in another zone.
Quote:Well, do note that I ended my little speculative with the caveat that this is how I think it should have been done *from the beginning* and that such power issues and tankmage worries should have been dealt with then.
Worse yet, if Kheldians were designed like you suggest, and essentially, using Dwarf form for instance would limit you to just your melee attacks, but there would be no "form-change" effect, people may get the wrong idea and think their character has suddenly become broken, because the way many players would look at it would be: "dude!!!! I spent 50 levels on my main Hero just to get this guy and when I use Dwarf-form, I can only use melee attacks? Sheesh that's broken! FIX IT!".
This would then become the same discussion as wanting Human-form mez-protection, and you know the community would not accept any logic offered by the Devs.
Quote:See, it's the 'Completely Different Being' that I don't like the concept of. -
Simply put, because it would allow a TriForm Kheldian to have more powerfully slotted powers than any other AT in the game. The reason I said it seems redundant to me is because my attack chains rely mostly on Nova or Dwarf attacks so I don't feel a "need" for slotting Human-form attacks.
To complicate things, there's also the matter of slotting different attacks for different things. Since my Human-form is mostly for utility purposes, I usually to slot my Human-form blasts with a mixture of slows/procs rather than reliable DPS, where-as the Nova blasts are slotted more for DPS and procs. Having Nova/Human blasts share the same slotting may decrease my abilities while increasing my DPS in a form I almost never use for DPS in the first place. For me and my playstyle, that's actually not an improvement.
Quote:...I'll also spell out how I think forming should have been done...
Quote:...See, to me, forms shouldn't have separate powers, per se (other than what's truly inate to the form itself. ie. flying for Nova, hitpoints/resist for Dwarf). Rather, the forms should serve as *modifiers* to the base human form's powers. Nova grants damage bonus and reduced defense - dwarf, pretty much the opposite.
I can already, with the use of binds and good reflexes and timing, pull a spawn with Nova blasts and meet them on the ground in Dwarf.
Anything that would remove what little risks I'm taking while form-switching, will essentially decrease the pleasure I get from pulling those stunts off, and bring the whole AT more than one-step closer to being a TankMage, then everyone would want one, and CoH will turn into City of Kheldians.
EDIT :: You'd also completely remove the whole idea of a Kheldian that took the forms actually being able to truly transform and change into a completely different being, and where's the fun in that? -
You know.. to each their own... but I you have several good points here which I'd like to examine and touch on:
I'd love that too, or at least if we could color/accessorize our forms.
I definitely agree with that and I think that the same way Masterminds get certain macros automatically built and added to their power-trays, Kheldians could probably use the same concepts, but even more so, a special tutorial Kheldian covering form-shifting would be just awesome. I'm still trying to contemplate how to make one with AE actually, but I have to say it's not going on very well
Quote:...or they'd combine redundant powers (ex: Bright Nova Blast and Luminouis Blast should share slotting) then I'd be more game -
Yes, actually Human-form doesn't do well at all... for me! You see, I've never managed to make it work for me because quite frankly, I like the forms, and I dislike the shields. I never doubted that past Lv38 Human-only Kheldians are quite workable and can be fun, but they're just not for me.
-
Okie... just to get back on topic here, does anyone know what's the status on the Test Server? Is it still Closed Beta only?
-
Those costumes look like someone took many genres and combined them as layovers on CoH costumes. Good work indeed and it'd be lots of fun to see those in-game.
Maybe you should link that site in your signature, Surge? -
Quote:If that happened to me, I'd simply tell the guy that my job is to ensure he doesn't even require healing, but if he did require healing, that means he didn't stick with me and followed my leadership, or else he'd be in perfect health now!Thank god, as the first time I heard anyone on my team playing either of my kheldians say the words "HEAL ME!" I would probably kick them then shelve the Khelds because I would know it had finaly reached the point I assumed it eventually would.
Thank you!
Quote:Well not now, since you've given away your negotiating tactic!
Quote:I missed this point - but yeah I also agree with you here.

Quote:Which is why I said I think Photon Seekers should perhaps pack another +stun effect since the power is on higher recharge levels.I didn't know the recharges off the top of my head and thought they were higher, so you are right it may be a bit overpowered having two clicky stuns.
Quote:Even with the arguing we have seen this idea has had pretty much universal support so it is probably the best hope we have
-
Quote:According to Mid's Reform Essence should be available once a minute, out of the box and without any global recharges. On my TriFormPB build I get recharge-values of between 25.1 to 15 seconds for Reform Essence, while Pulsar recharges anywhere between 21.2 to 11.8 seconds and the stun from Pulsar lasts 23.7 seconds. It wouldn't be spammable as a Warshade will have it, and you're right, Warshades get Inky Aspect, but IA requires them to be in Human-form which is sometimes a bit of a sacrifice as opposed to having two click-powers after which the PB can Dwarf-up.I don't know about crying out, Warshades still have Gravatic Emination on a fairly short recharge + Inky Aspect + Unchain Essence, I think another stun power may even it out a bit and if I understand it the power I was on about changing is Reform Essence which is the self heal on a long timer? As long as the long timer remains it will be the PB equivalent of Unchain Essence (Lower mag to balance out no dead body).
I don't think we'll get Glowing Touch or Reform Essence changed anyway, but if we're very lucky, maybe Castle will see this thread and decide that adding -Res to each PB attack is a good idea.

Quote:Good luck and never forget that no achievement is ever a justification to rest on your laurels. Always keep growing....AC is going to college on August 24th, a mere week from today. I will be going to a small community college in central Texas in order to acquire some credits cheaply (along with a host of other reasons, but that's the main one), and after a year, I'll transfer to one of three universities (UT Austin, UT Arlington or Texas A&M) to complete a degree program focused on Aerospace Engineering. Yup.. AC's going to be a freakin' rocket scientist, if he's smart enough and can hack it...
