Awesome thread so far... keep up the ROFLz!!! (I'm @Work&Bored!)

Quote:QFT but from a TriFormPB perspective with emphasis on Nova blasting and Dwarf tanking. When fighting Large Mobs, this I agree with. I have all my AoEs 6-slotted and my PB can lawnmower thru some pretty good-sized mobs...
I prefer having both. I have Lum. Blast, Rad. & Inc. Strike all 6-slotted as well; they're better tools for bosses and EBs... with a PB, we *can* have our cake and eat it too -
Quote:Westley, did you steal my T?This is my favorite comment of the week so far:
Paragon's Sour Grape... 09-15-2009 07:38 AM does not play well with others
I find that hilarious considering how many PuG TFs I lead and run successfully.?!!?!?
To Xamzax3, just keep doing what you're doing, don't stoop to their level and if anything, come up with more varied and spontaneous "contests" like rewarding lowbie Heroes who go to the Hollows and fight Trolls and Outcasts, or lowbie Heroes who save old ladies from muggers... anything to reward actual play that isn't mere grinding. -
Quote:QFT, but I would like to mention that with the consensus already being that most A/V soloing builds are somewhat less comfortable in high-level PvE, making use of the 2nd build feature to have an A/V build and a regular PvE build isn't a bad idea at all. One build can focus on a single-target sustainable attack chain that excludes I-Strike because of its animation time, and the other build will include it for dealing with other more docile threats....so is worth taking if you have the room, but due to the animation time doesn't really have a place in an attack chain that would be used against a hard single target like an AV.
It [I-Strike] is a copy of I think Total Focus and I skipped that from my energy brute when making an AV build.
So decide where you want to focus your build before dropping powers. -
I don't play Human-only, or heavy Human-form builds with my Kheldians, so I stayed away. However, I'd never advise any PB to give away a one-two combo punch that together with Build Up can help take out a target. RS+IS done right can end up either with a defeated foe whose body is tossed away, or a held foe who is close to being defeated so a blast or two finish them off. Even if it's a Boss, those two punches would soften him up quite a bit, so I'd never give up on that combination, especially not if I was going Human-only!

Quote:I think every once in a while we get one of those either here or the PvP forums.Maybe I am blind. But i don't seem to see many PvP Threads for Peacebringers? Am I just blind or are then not played often for PvP?
Quote:Anyone have a decent spec for a Peacebringer I am guessing human only would be the way to go.
As far as analyzing what you need from a PvP character to be able to perform, suffice it to say that Kheldians, due to their Inherent power feel the most powered-up in a team situation. That said though, there's a few bits that Kheldians can do when PvP'ing. A TriFormPB for example may have up to 3 self-heals and a WS may self-cap its damage resistance by itself given enough enemies around it, Players and NPC's alike.
The real problem for Kheldians in PvP, in my opinion though, is that their forms were designed to play off one another, but shape-shifting sometimes takes too long and in PvP even a mere second can make the difference between life and death, and Kheldians in their Human-form have by-the-numbers unreliable damage, survivability and not enough crowd control compared to the other AT's.
Focusing on the PB, I would say that your best damage would most probably come from Bright Nova, but that's also the least defensible form to launch your attacks from, while Human-form Lightform+Shields will give you the most defensible form but only until the unavoidable crash. White Dwarf is good enough against many threats because it packs mitigation from the KB in White Dwarf Flare and the heal in White Dwarf Sublimation, but that works well in PvE. In PvP a Dwarf-centric build is probably going to fail to do enough damage and not have enough damage-resists on its own.
Indeed, the best advice I can give you on PvP is to team with some friends and explore what group synergies you find with them.
I hate to be a partypooper, but it's simply been my experience that attempting to solo-PvP with my Kheldians wasn't worth the time and effort.
If you insist on attempting that, I would recommend a build that's high on +Defense/+Resists and +Perception/+ToHit and recommend having Nova as a sniper. That's how I'd go about it if I were to give it another go. -
That's awesome. Perhaps I'll get my HO build going again. I've always wanted a Controller based on Darkness, and maybe I could slot Chance to Immobilize in IA and GE and that plus the actual disorients would lock-down the spawn around me.
-
That's why I still have all my tactical moves bound to single keys.
-
Quote:That does sound satisfying, but I also like the ability to sit there in Dark Nova and blast together with my fluffies. It's an odd thing, but oh-so-much-fun, especially when I'm using the game environment against the enemies (i.e. get a bunch of mobs to repeatedly climb and jump off a lamp-post or bus-stop, focusing only on you while you and the fluffies open fire)There's something very gratifying about running through a mission with 2 fluffies buffed by tactics while I'm holding aggro with InkyAspect/Orbiting Death and sitting at the dam-res cap of 85% and seeing my health/end back to full after (and often during) every fight.

Best piece of advice I can give for a soloist Warshade, whichever combination you're playing, is always hit the big fish with your heavy attacks and when using Drain(s) do it with the small fries. Once you're done with the heavy hitters (EB's, Bosses and Lt's) turn on the AoE's and clean up the aisles.
Just because you can obliterate those minions first doesn't mean you should because doing so may leave you alone with a tough nut to crack (EB, or even some Bosses depending on your build and the enemy's powers).
Always, fight smart. -
Do Inky Aspect and Orbiting Death get in each-others way? I remember being told once, never tried it myself, that when both IA and OD were on, enemies were either stunned by the one or taking damage by the other but not both at the same time... can anyone confirm/deny this?
-
I've always figured a soloist Human-only Warshade would be quite feasible, post Lv38, that is. Before getting your pet(s) and Eclipse, there's a lot of strain for a Human-only Warshade to deal with. I'm not saying it's impossible, but rather that going with a TriFormShade is usually much easier if you have to solo it. That's been my experience at least.
That said though, after taking a TriFormShade to Lv50, I simply can't stomach parting with the forms and going Human-only. Sure, I can do that on the 2nd build, but I just find the forms a lot more interesting to play with. -
Quote:But this you can already make with the current system implemented in CoX. The only thing is, there are perhaps more combinations that allow this in the Other Game than is currently possible in CoX and even that theory is just that, a theory...."who says Iron Man is a Blaster", what if he was a INV/Energy Tanker.
Tanker level defense with Defender level blasts. Is that REALLY a tank mage ? I dont think so.
Wishing for more power-sets, more AT's, and more varied gameplay elements, I totally understand... but simply wanting to implement a system that has been already tried and rejected by the actual development team that now develops that Other Game, that doesn't seem right somehow, you know? -
To be honest, I'm not too fond on Inky Aspect, because of it being a Human-form power, but any way to automate stunning Bosses is cool with me...

Quote:I'm not a Scrapper. I'm a ranged attacker with an AoE hold/damage power, one Blade attack (melee single-target burst/DoT damage), a passive health Regen power and a ranged Cone AoE attack that does KB/KD-pull effect. Am I self-sufficient, more than likely, but then again, so are most of my CoX characters anyway. The AT system is what allows this game to create balance. Either the alpha or the beta of this game was very much like your suggestion, but there were only two things that happened.
People picked a ranged primary and a self defense secondary, or a self defense primary and a ranged secondary. You become self sufficient and capable of laying waste on a large scale. It destroys the needs for teams, thus support roles go away.
Look at That Other Game. This is how it functions, and there are no teams. Everyone is a scrapper.
People also too easily dismiss the effect that open-zone vs instanced gameplay has on teaming! Open zone gameplay which is done very well in my opinion, in the Other Game, has made it so that people for the most part aren't required to strictly team up with one another in order to play cooperatively.
I think that the Open Zone gameplay has more influence on not needing a team rather than being able to build a self-sufficient combatant.
Quote:...But I do feel that people tend to run off and try the new thing when it arises, so it becomes important to adapt to that OR...
Quote:...As far as TankMage goes, dont take offense, but that term is over-used in any discussion of game balance or changes to a game.
Quote:...I would rather hear you say that you don't like the idea or, even better that it would be too difficult to balance.
In summation, I like the idea itself, but not the notion of porting it into CoX because of a) the amount of work it would bring; b) the instability it may inflict for the time period before things would re-stabilize.
Quote:...Overall, I agree with your message and ideas, but I would kinda like to see something like this come about, either in this game or hmmm... COx part 2
Unlike TV-shows, MMO's as computer games can allow you to experience their past and future iterations. So, the same way some people enjoy playing EQ1 and EQ2, some people can and I know I do enjoy playing CoX and the other game. After all, this isn't like what happened when BSG came out and tried to re-envision the old show in such a perverted way that I couldn't even stand to watch it. -
Awesome field-work, Joe!
I wish I could play during my lunchtime -
Quote:So, you'd be a TankMage that's better and more suited to being a TankMage than is already possible with some of the combinations in the game... and this will require re-visiting the game-content and re-balancing of many sub-systems. Hmm.Not Really, It would just be opened up more.
Afterall, If you Chose Invulnerability as your primary, you would get an inherent HP boost, and the Tanker Inherent and Tanker Epics pools. You WOULD BE a Tanker basically.
But... you would have ALOT more Secondaries to choose from; Melee Sets (ALL of them)
Ranged Sets (ALL) and Control sets(Probably the safest choice, but LOWEST actual damage).
How about we let the Other Game be the Other Game and develop CoX in directions that fit CoX better? Just as an added remark, I have nothing against the Other Game, I'm actually a Lifetime there, and for all my support for cross-pollination between the two games, some things have to remain individual and different between the two if they are both to competently compete for my time and money. -
I honestly can't say much about the Storm set because I don't have enough experience with it, but about Dark Miasma, I can say that there's a reason why Dark Miasma was never given to Controllers!

Quote:I figure there are a lot of people who are playing their Kheldians mostly by clicking the individual power-buttons. I personally know one of those people, my wife.I can't imagine any single kheld needing all or even half of the binds we talk about here...
Apparently there's quite a bit that can be done with +down and +up to incorporate movement commands into our binds. One such example would be to use +up to simulate a jump, or even ++up (IIRC) and shifting to Nova to begin and continue flying.
Quote:Tried out the WS Double Drain move yesterday too, it certainly works but isn't really anything more than a weird little quirk more than an exploit. -
