  1. My brother would have liked this possibility. Due to RL time constraints, he hasn't wanted to resubscribe to CoH (why pay for something he doesn't have time to use). The same lack of time also works against him since his IO Builds are effectively unusable, and he doesn't have the time or ambition to rebuild them with an alternate build complete with SO's. He's always been more of a casual player anyway, but something like this would give him something to work towards.

I too would be interested as well. I probably will need to cancel my subscription when my current cycle is done January due to financial concerns, but I'll only be at 23 Tokens (about 7 shy of completing Tier 7). And yea, my characters, while not sporting multi-billion ISK builds, are still fitted exclusively with IO's. So instead of playing CoH casually for a while until I can afford to go VIP again, I'll likely just stop playing entirely for potentially even longer.

    (edited for clarity)
  2. This could be nice for my Kinetic/DP Defender, but she's only in her 30's.

A purple, non-IO recipe, that's new though. I wonder if this would restrict a lower-level character from building the recipe at all (are there any other such examples?)
  3. 500 points for a vanity pet? That's a little too much IMHO.

I have a new Native American themed character that would love to have a wolf pet. A German Shepard is close, but not close-enough (especially at that price).
  4. I have a new Native American themed character that I would *LOVE* to have a wolf pet for. But for 500 points, I doubt I will buy it, especially with other things I can spend my points on.

However, they're still experimenting with new market releases and what to charge for things. If sales for this vanity pet are too low, then hopefully they'll drop the price soon.

... and actually give us a real Wolf pet.
  5. I made some very convincing chainmail armor years ago for a few of my toons - with my female BS scrapper turning-out much better than my male tank.

For my scrapper, I use Shirt>Mesh texture (instead of tights that the slightly poofy look you get from chainmail and its accompanied padding). Then I use a skirt w/mesh pattern (pencil skirt if memory serves). It gives a very nice chain hauberk look.

My male tank's chainmail looks more like a chain t-shirt, since there's no viable skirt options for him (just the kilt and barbarian pieces, which give a totally different effect than I'd like)

I would be curious as to how a new chainmail outfit would work. I could see it worn more like a coat, with a tintable gambeson underneath... possibly with a higher-res chain texture thrown in. In fact, it wouldn't be that much more work to add a few other textures to represent other flexible armors like scalemail, ringmail, brigadine, even leather and studded-leather armor.

I'll have to post some screenshots of my mail-clad characters later sometime. I'm at work atm, so no can do right now.
  6. There's a formula for how many slots you get. If memory serves, it's a base of 2 slots, plus 2 for Going Rogue, then 1 additional full year of subscription (i.e. Veteran rewards), and plus any slots you bought extra under the old market. Might be a couple more in there too, since it seems like I have a total of 9 global slots and I'm just a 3-year veteran.

As for rewards, they're being rewarded at very irregular rates. Last month, where my subscription cycled on the 19th of October:

I received my Server Transfer token at the beginning of the month.
I received my Paragon Points (for the Market) a day or two before my date.
I received my Paragon Rewards almost a week after my date.

Zwill has said that they eventually will get the system working as intended, but it may take a while. You may want to send-in a petition to get your rewards (being premium, it'll be a while before they respond now), although you may get them automatically in a few days.

    (slight grammar edit)

I was pleasantly surprised to see my thread brought back from the grave. I feel though it's still a pertinent thread. The powers aren't all that old, and there's still many people that haven't used all of the new Travel Powers and thus haven't expressed their opinions of them yet.

One thought I had was that if you had all of the exploration badges for a hazard zone, you can then use LRT to visit that zone.

Although you gave me another idea, (one that we'll never see implemented but just sounds cool anyway) is that LRT could drop you off at whatever exploration badge you currently had active (if any).

This process has to be planned out well in advance, quite literally weeks, and when we have to implement an immediate build, it puts the breaks on for every other thing surrounding it.

This applies to all build publishes, not just what you see on live servers.

That being said, we will possibly have a build tomorrow to address this, and other, issues which we believe warrant immediate resolution.
I know you're not responsible for this Zwill, you're just the messenger.

However... brain missed a cycle and I had to re-read that... are you saying that the programming is done at a completely separate site from where the servers are stationed? Is the compiled code physically transferred from site A to B (You said the code can't just be e-mailed), or is it still electronically transferred, but the ENTIRE codebase is transferred every time? I can't pretend to know how things are set-up there, but it sounds terribly inefficient, and I can easily think of several ways to improve the efficiency of the system.
  10. I too am of the opinion this is a very poor move. If the procedures allow for a known and very disruptive bug to go to live, then those procedures need to be changed. At the very least, the publish should have been delayed until this was fixed.

Now, some aid to deal with this glaring issue. As others have mentioned, you can save and load GUI's via the Options menu. You can also use the "/wdw_load" and "/wdw_save" commands. The file that is saved & loaded, regardless of which method used, is called, "wdw.txt" and is stored in the CoH base directory.

There are some long-standing issues with saving & loading GUI's, in that some elements don't quite save/load quite right - the Inspiration Tray is the worst offender. Sometimes those issus can be fixed by manually tweaking the wdw.txt file (like the aforementioned ITray), while others are the result of faulty code in the loading process and can't be manually tweaked.

If you don't already have a GUI set-up, take a few minutes to save one. It'll save a lot of time fixing your GUI until this travesty of a bug is fixed.

PS: And if you're really bored, you can dig-into the wdw.txt file and change the GUI beyond what you can easily do in-game. Here's a screenshot of a WIP of my GUI that I recently started tweaking again.

    Longer Bios

I've always considered Bios to be the equivalent of Public Information that Paragon/Rogue Isles/Praetoria keeps on-file for each "super" individual. This information that can be easily referenced with whatever computer, smartphone, crystal ball, etc. a person might have available.

Unfortunately, the bio system has needed a technical overhaul for a long time. A longer bio space would be nice, but simply being able to utilize the existing limit efficiently would be a big help (remember, we used to have a limit of around 512 bytes before). I usually type my bios in notepad/Word/OO before pasting it into CoH - typing some things directly into CoH when a straight paste causes extra data to be inserted (I'm not sure how the new interface is handling this). I always use paragraphs and line-breaks even at the cost of loosing bio-real-estate just to make mine more legible (nothing says, "Don't read me" like a big wall of text).

I've received a lot of compliments on my Bios over the years - sometimes it's my longer bios that people like sometimes it's the shorter ones. But all of them are easy to read. I also like to read other people's bios too - even though the majority of them are cliche Mary Sues, there's others that are genuine joys to read.

For those that don't like long bios (or bios in general), then just don't read them.
  12. As I think about it more, a 12-person minimum is an odd number, are we sure they're actually going to run with this? I can see an 8-man, and 16-man minimum. Still, you could always form the league in advance and have the leader start it up just like how most incarnate trials are formed - you don't *have* to wait in the LFG queue for an eternity (although the LFG tool does seem to be working a bit better lately).

My guess is that the minimum-required players are an unfortunate side-effect of the LFG queue. Also look at why they're moving it to the LFG tool. Are they doing it to make it more accessible to the greatest number of people? Are they using it as a balancing tool that couldn't be implemented in the old system? (i.e. no Incarnate powers)

Unrelated side note: As for 4th Edition D&D, I wasn't a big fan of it. It homogenized all of the professions, and lost most of the D&D flavor. What's left is a passable roleplaying system, but there are non-Wizard roleplaying games that do a much better job. If you want something that still feels like D&D, look at Pathfinder instead.
  13. I started just before i6 hit, and my first two characters took around a year to get to level 50 (with several bouts of Altitis and a couple breaks away from the game). Then the the VEATS became available. Some of the levelling/XP changes had been put in place already at this time, and I found it only took me a single month to get my Fortuna up to 50 with no Powerlevelling, running just with PUG's and my teammates.

Half of me is thankful for the changes, yet the other half of me thinks that they've made the game a little too easy.
  14. Despite it's flaws, I do like the Incarnate system as it gave me a reason to dust-off my 50's and actually play them again. On the flip side, I do understand what the OP is getting at.

Like what other people have suggested, I think the best way of fixing this would be to introduce a few new options for existing high-level TF's. This is what's floating in my head:
    • No Incarnate Abilities Allowed: Exactly as stated, all Incarnate Abilities are disallowed.
    • Alpha Slot Allowed: Players can still benefit from their Alpha slot, but no others.
    • Furious Mode: The Well of the Furies has tampered with the trial and greatly increased the difficulty of all enemies in the trial. Shards still drop in the trial, but the reward tables at the end will allow the choice to "roll" on the Justice/Destiny/Lore/Interface Component table instead of the regular rewards.
I want to say I've read somewhere that we may see a shard<>thread conversion soon (anybody able to confirm that?) so no need to drop threads outside of the iTrials.

Another thought: I think a new "Supremacy" badge should be introduced for being able "Master" a trial without incarnate abilities (i.e. what "Master of" badges signified originally).
  15. We just had 4-player Trial with the Haunted House. This gives those of us that like bigger teams something to look forward to this X-Mas.

I wasn't around for the last couple XMas's, but is the X-Mas Mission in Pocket D's still available (Something about rescuing the New Year baby?). That's a regular mission and can be run with just a normal team of X Players.
  16. I don't own any of the paid temp travel powers. I've never liked the look of Ninja Run, I don't play beast characters, and the non-customizable Rocket Board doesn't conceptually fit any of my toons. Still, I don't feel that it's necessary to make them inherent.

Most people now, as soon as they get in Atlas/Mercy join the first Sewer Trial and can get their first travel power before that's even done. Thus making them inherent is essentially just giving us an extra power pick.

What I'd rather see is an overhaul of the existing Travel Powers. There's several powers that are only mediocre in their use, and some that are downright useless. I was starting to type examples, but it was getting lengthy enough I'll probably post my thoughts in a different thread.

According to Paragon Wiki, Castle did say at one time that this was considered an exploit. However I was unable to find the original post where he said this.

The only reason this long-standing bug has remained is due to the difficulty to fix it and the fact the devs have more things on their plate than they can currently handle currently.
  18. Mastermind - Mime Summoning. Or perhaps that could be one of the minions summoned via Clown Summoning.

Slightly more serious - Carnival of Light/War/Shadows Summoning!

While Krosp himself is highly intelligent and able to communicate with all cats, it was discovered that communication alone was insufficient, as the cats the Krosp would "command" would forget their commands very quickly (or just not care to follow them, as cats are known to do) leaving Krosp as the ultimate feline general without an army.

I fear a Catgirl MM would run into a very similar problem, and be distracted by the first ball of yarn or mouse tossed in front of them.
  20. Here's a power set I came up with a couple years ago, but don't remember ever posting it.

Candy Mastery - a buff and debuff support power that can help heal and buff your teammates and debuff your enemies.

Chocolate Fountain - Targeted AoE Heal over Time
Sugar Rush - Allied PBAoE +End, +Defense to Mez, Hold, Immobilize
    Sugar High - Allied +Recovery, +Defense to KB/KU, +Recharge
    Candy Coating - Allied +Defense to Smashing/Lethal
Chocolate Golem - Something like DM's Fluffy, but chocolate-flavored!
PiƱata - When destroyed, gives all allies a random inspiration.
    Cotton Candy - AoE Slow/Immobilize
My Candy! - Target or AoE Confuse
Glutton's Punishment - Target weight gain, -Recharge, -Speed, -Accuracy, -Damage, -Defense

(( Took me a couple hours to type this in, as I kept getting interrupted at my shop today ))
  21. I rather like the new Team interface, with it taking far less room on-screen than the old interface.

The league interface isn't bad either, I just wish it remembered my customizations each time I joined a new league. I like my leagues to all line up in a single row on the top-left corner of the screen, but the default has it in two rows.
  22. I played another game for quite a few years and have always been a big fan of its market and "crafting" system. However, due to fundamental differences between EVE and CoH, I doubt such a market system would work in CoH.

In that other game, the vast majority of your equipment is made by other players. This, combined with the high rate of ship and equipment destruction gives EVE a considerably larger economy than in CoH. Such a market in a (comaritively) smaller economy like CoH would give rich players too much power and give even more market manipulation than what we see currently.

However, it's not to say CoH's market system couldn't use some improvements. I'd keep the "blind" system as-is, but I'd like to see more past sales, especially on high-volume goods. I'd also like to see some information on volume sales (how many of X has sold in the last hour/day/week?) and perhaps some weekly and monthly price averages.

Yea, I was a marketeeer and industrialist back on that game, and I do miss some of the marketing tools we had there.
  23. There's many older pieces that simply need to have a higher-resolution texture applied to them to bring them into line with today's standards. Even basic Tights pattern (or Tops w/skin) would benefit from a higher resolution texture so the edges look sharper and less-blurry.

Although that said, I would rather see a new version of such a piece put into the game as a new entry (or rename the existing entry as "Version 1" or "Old Version"), just in case the newer, sharper pattern would be detrimental to people's costumes. For instance, I use the Mesh pattern on a couple of my characters to achieve a rather convincing chainmail effect, a higher-rez texture to sharpen that image could actually ruin the effect.
    • Or back in the days when we could only sidekick one person at a time...
    • Or back when most of the hazard zones had a minimum level to even enter..
    • Or back before we had the Oroboros teleporter...
    • Or back before it was so easy to get temporary travel powers..
    • Or back before the Hollows was revamped...
It also reminds me of the days of the TaxiBots - once a beloved volunteer service that has become an antiquated relic due to modernization of Paragon.
  24. I have a certain respect for people that can come-up with interesting and unique costumes without having to use purchased costume pieces. And I haven't gotten around to buying many yet, as a lot of the are simply too busy for my taste and/or don't fit any current concept.

In fact, I've had tons of compliments on almost all of my character's outfits, and all of them have used basic parts, the occasional unlockable part (Roman armor, or the Rularuu Sword) or Vet reward (Belly Shirts, Day Job pieces). Even the simplest outfit can get compliments if color-coordinated and accessorized properly.
