Except a large percentage of our veterans spend 90% of there time moaning about things that's hardly going to attract new plays.
Imagine a potential new player decides to drop bye the forums are they
A) going to see a happy friendly community that loves the game they play
or
B) see a bunch of old moaning sods that are fed up with the game because the developers don't add what they want add and instead proclaim there off to play champions.
So assuming your reading the same forums i am there going to see B why would they sub there far more likely to go look up champions and play that.
[/ QUOTE ]
You aint seen me proclaiming anything mate.
And if there was something to be positive about i'd be positive. -
QR
Its also worth bearing in mind that there are more veteran players in this game, than they are likely to get new ones.
So looking after the players they have might be a good idea. -
[ QUOTE ]
All i can say is i am shocked at how unrealistic and greedy players are ..want want want ..and yet its all Free content upgrades ..other MMO dont add in such content with out you having to pay for the stuff , AND its not player feed content ..Yes we pay for the game but work out how much you pay per hour played and its the cheapest fun going ....
The reality is COX has more new FREE content per year that any other MMO i can think of .
some clear want to have their cake and eat it , have 3 more slices and get to pick different toppings each time .
[/ QUOTE ]
Well then charge for it, dont harp on about great free things soon.
Because this is neither great or soon. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not prepared to wait for I16, I17, I18 or even a possible sequel. Enough is enough now. Too long have they been saying that the NEXT issue will be it, too long have they been saying "Soon", well, enough now. Way enough. Competition is just way too close for them to be screwing around with loyal players like this, and I'm just all out of patience.
So I'll go down on record right now and say this.
If Positron's 5th year anniversary address does NOT come up with something new and exciting which we get VERY soon, my sub WILL be canceled tomorrow. I'm just not going to keep paying them money on the promise of "soon", when they just continually break that promise.
Issue 13 was originally meant to be "IT", then MA was bumped as it was too big. Then Issue 14 was meant to be "IT", and it's turned the game into City of Farmers. Then Issue 15 was meant to be "IT", a massive story based issue, and it's got 2 stinking task forces, a few emotes, some faces, and something to help the farmers. Whoop dee frickin' doo.
I used to absolutely love this game. I used to trust everything the devs said. I don't anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
They even managed to make the new villain SF the wrong level, its 40-45 that needed covering.
How many times has that been said. -
Look like all those "soon" promises are coming at once then.
An earth shattering event followed by a new strike force for i15. -

"From 11am EDT on April 28th to 12am EDT on April 29th, get ready to re-experience some of the things that have made City of Heroes® the great game that it is over the past five years! The festivities will be more fun than you can shake a stick at, and will include plenty of opportunities to earn merits, badges and XP."
Can you spell lazy?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, you calling me or the devs lazy?
Because that description dosent actually tell you anything.
Edit, ah i see, its a rehash all slung into one then. -
So what does this mega event actually consist of?

Let's face it, the MA has now created a game within a game - and when the MA is working it's impossible to tell who's in the real game and who's in the virtual, other than asking the world and its dog. But getting a team in the real world is much tougher now.
Once in the MA you don't need to move out of it except to level and/or sell and you can do that comfortably within Atlas.
So move the vendors within the MA building, have a levelling mentor handy, some stores to sell you stuff and robert is your father's brother.
Those who want to go the virtual route can, those who want the "real" game can also and never the two have to meet.
It solves a problem with the virtual world giving XP in the real too - an idea that's seems borked to me. That's the equivalent of learning to fly in a flight simulator and then being let loose on the front line combat zone with an F16.]
Give the MA a separate server (or more as required) and away you go. Problem solved
[/ QUOTE ]
They couldnt manage a decent set of servers for the real EU game, i cant see them going for this sadly. -
[ QUOTE ]
I didnt post this in the main anniversary thread because its pretty large already, anyway, I was wondering, the news post is saying something about special appearances on the test server...
Is this something for only the US AGAIN?
or will the europeans actually get something to for a change?
[/ QUOTE ]
We get a special appearance from Ghost Raptor and Avatea on our training room. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm pretty sure that someone (one of the smurfs IIRC) set up a farming channel a year or so ago for much the same reasons. It might still be going.
Can't recall the name of it though (as I never joined it).
[/ QUOTE ]
Not guilty! We used to do our farming between us nice and quiet, no spamming no stress
To the OP, theres that much farming going on now i cant believe anyone is having trouble finding a farming team, but if you are, give it a try, start a channel and see how you get on. -

Well that just sounds like a pile of nothing.

It can't be - nothing would be nothing - but as it's something, it must be something, and not nothing

Fact is, a lot, probably the majority, of players (and indeed the players of all MMOS) just want to get as powerful as possible as quicklyas possible. They never read the story, it is irrelevent to them.
Where did all these farmers come from? They sure wheren't all in PI. Many of them are actually new and returning players, attracted by the MA, making it a massive commerical success.
Another fact: CoX needs to have someing that CO doesn't in order to compete. Since CO stole the suggestions list, MA is it. It sure can't compete by adding new content. However much they add, CO will have more, a whole new games worth more.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem with that approach is Churn PRAF. People are going to hit 1-50 in a few weeks, do the small amount of high level content we do have and then move on to other things since "there's no endgame. This sucks"
At the same time they are alienating a lot of the people who have been around for ages, looked forward to the MA and are now awash in a sea of Farm spam
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure, and a lot of players actually like to churn through games, that's one of the reasons they farm, so that they can getb through in a month without having to renew thier subs (which is an issue for younger players especially).
However, the problem is with the rewards, not the MA itself, and I'm sure the devs will soon get on top of that. the farmers also think that, which is why they are so frantic now, they know they only have a short time before all their farms are nerfed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well i hope they dont start nerfing the xp in the MA, because when you start stopping things to hinder the few it also ruins it for the many. -
I think removing or reducing xp from MA missions would be a bad mistake.
If like me you have 0 creative ability, or inclination for that matter, removing the xp from MA would in effect be removing it from me all together.
At least doing a few MA missions gives us something new to do.
If there was no xp it would be back to the same grind that badly needs a boost of dev made content. -
I think this MA has been more of a success if you just want to create stuff for yourself or freinds, its when you want some global recognition it falls down because of the amount of rubbish that needs to be sifted through.
For me it did what it said on the tin, allowed myself and a few mates to build decent farms villain side.
Sadly im now sick of farming too, and because of the amount of [censored] published its hard work finding anything good.
I also cant see an easy answer to that, because people are not going to suddenly become self critical and stop publishing rubbish, after all why should they, one mans rubbish is anothers masterpiece.
Im just a bit sad they couldnt have added something in this issue for the non creative of us.
Which leads me on to say i just hope i15 really is a stellar event with some wow factor, if not its going to be goodnight nurse from a lot of people. -

I can switch away from my act any time (not that I would: seeing Londoner wet his little panties is hilarious), but you're going to struggle to break away from the genuine tract of ignorance you've been clinging to.

There's no 'might' about it. was given to us.

Tough. Mother's argument is still petty - the demand is for new content, gets it, yet starts whinging because it isn't developer made.
That's the only distinction that people are getting hooked on, and it's hilariously weak. Or would UBER L33T ARC 12 really be different simply because War Witch put her name on it, instead of @W4R W1TCH? Oh, and the developers have stated well written arcs can make their way into the canon. So bang goes that side of the coin.
/edit - Hell, actually, I'd damn well put money on the argument going from "they're not canon" to "they're just the same old things" if the MA arcs had been published by developers. Nor Cal wouldn't be able to win, they really wouldn't.

No that analogy would only work if (insert obscure reason about bread here) ....

No, personal opinion.

Opinions can still be lame.
You demand new content, get it, yet dismiss the bloody stuff because it isn't canon. It's like a hungry man whinging the bread had some ketchup on it.

[ QUOTE ]
The devs were going to make the MA tool anyway for themselves, to help streamline their mission building work - but they thought it'd be cool to share it with us too - so a lot of the effort put into I14 was going to be done anyway, even if the MA creator was never opened up to the players.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well if that is case they should have worked a bit harder and added some content for people not interested in the MA.
Coca Cola dont sell half empty bottles of drink because they are manufacturing new bottles.
What this company do to make their job easier is neither here nor there to the people playing the game. -

Get a grip mate, make your arcs for your pals, your sg or anyone that happens to stumble over it amoung the rest of them, if you want recognition write a book or take up a job in acting.

Well, yeah but you're being a bit harsh here, Londoner. It's human nature to want recognition for your efforts isnt it?
[ QUOTE ]
This is a game, played in the most part by people who want a relaxing laugh and couldnt give 2 hoots about what they publish or what you think of it cos its done for a bit of entertainment.
[/ QUOTE ]
What's funny about that is while it's a game to us, it's a multi million dollar very serious project to certain people. Yet the device that's kept them busy for two issues while big time competition is gearing up fast is, I believe, going to end up exactly as you just stated.
An occasional bit of fluf they'll use once in a while if ever. Because, once they realiose that their arcs will never see light of day, the enthusiasm for making them will drop like a stone. And we'll be left with the hard core MAers.
Good luck to em. Worth these two (imho) crucial issues with the storm clouds that are coming?
Hmmmmmm
[/ QUOTE ]
Im not arguing with you, i think the whole thing is a complete waste of an issue. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd much rather that the real dross wasn't published in the first place. I'm more for self-censorship rather than imposing standards.
[/ QUOTE ]
And how do you hope that is going to happen?
Your dross is another persons master piece, i honestly dont know how you thought this was going to end any other way.
And i'l be honest seeing all these up in arms about my arc has been griefed, my arc has been burried whining threads has given me the first laugh iv had regarding this game since i14.
