My point is that if you can hold 2000+ invention salvage in a base, it will become very easy to control a rare. Hey, even I will do it if they bump the storage up
[/ QUOTE ]
So let me get this right you are going to tie up say 2-5 billion inf buying up 2000 of your chosen rare, to dribble them back on the market a few at a time to earn the odd few million?
Not mentioning of course the ongoing expense you will have of continually buying up all the ones of that type that are put up by everyone else here and in the US.
Good luck with that. -
The whole thing has just become a comedy now aint it.

But where can I put the halloween salvage? Got 21 of each and I don´t wanna sell them all. Nice for new members in the SG.
[/ QUOTE ]
Keep them on your alts. -
[ QUOTE ]
So from 999 down to 30 base salvage, not invention salvage, that can´t be right. Then I have to buy/build 21 more racks for all the salvage I have?
[/ QUOTE ]
No you need to convert your base salvage into invention salvage or just sell it, because it is now useless. -
[ QUOTE ]
The difference here is that personal storage ( be it vault or toon ) is just that. Personal.
Allthough people hoard salvage, it's difficult to affect the markets too much when you have a maximum of 130 on your character.
Additionally, it's been that way from the start so the market has levelled out.
If you bump salvage racks up to even 100 invention salvage each then a SG has the ability to store nearly 2000 rare salvage and hoard them. This *will* affect the markets.
Even with 30 in each there will be an effect.
Bear in mind that anyone could form a one man SG for the sole purpose of invention hoarding. for 1800 prestige rent a month you can currently store over 500 salvage.
2 people doing that could completely control a high-tier rare. Make it 100 per bin and 1 person could do this to two rares.

99% of sg's aint going to be hoarding anything in communal stores because of the theft problem.
I cant see putting the storage limit up to 100 would hurt, you dont need huge stores now without base salvage anyway.
Also how do you see individuals controlling the market on certain rares? All the new rares available now are from brain storming and they are additions to the market, not rares bought up from the existing market.
This hasnt effected the drop rate of rares has it? So once this period of cheap rare salvage suddenly dumped on the market is over, its back to normal time aint it.
All having 1000 pangien soils is going to do for you is gain you some inf if you dribble them back onto the market once this glut of them is sold and the price goes back up, or kill the price of them again for a while if you dump them on all at once.
Either way you aint cornering any market prices are you.
If individuals wanted to try to do this they could have done it pre / post i13 by storing it on various alts, vaults and the market anyway. -

Is anyone else concerned that if you build a 'raidable' base now (vault, anchors, raid telepad, turrets, defences, etc - just to be 'ready') that they'll come along and change the raids so significantly that it's all massively redundant?
[/ QUOTE ]
I dont think they can change much really, they might remove requirements in line with making everything else easier but thats about it.
Also the way they are going there wont be anyone left who likes pvp to pvp in a base raid anyway so it dont really matter. -
You can bet your life the "raid able" button will just be greyed out till you clear all paths.
-
This was all done to get new people in, that aint worked its a fail.
They did manage to lose what pvp comunity they did have, why dont they just bite the bullet and put it back.
Dont bother with wasting anymore time on something that is always going to be a minority sport.
What happened to content in i13? Was a tf for villains between 40-45 really too much to ask? All these gimicks dont add up to more to do.
This game in my opinion dont need any more merit systems, day jobs, costume options, xp pacts, it needs something new to do.
Much as i hate to admit it, im now looking forward to the mission architect, and hope to god there are some creative people out there, because im honestly sick to death with the same old grind over and over. -

Make or break for me tho. My sub is up tomorrow and unless I suddenly see some light at the end of the tunnel its the end for me

I already personally know of 30 accounts already cancelled due to these changes so that will make 31.
One PvP'er being mardy and leaving because of a change is understandably something NC can shrug off, 30+ on the other hand is something i personally think they should be concerned about seeing as that is basicly the entire EU PvP population.

When those sort of people leave, it's time to take note. -

Just spotted this on the US forum and thought I'd share:
[ QUOTE ]
Prestige Refunds: The programming team has set up a refund system for all base plots, rooms and items. As soon a player loads into a base, that base will automatically refund the Prestige difference. This is crucial: the base must be entered in order to trigger the Prestige refund. If your base is not loaded, then the refund will not happen until someone enters it.

I have no clue, really. Games tend to be heavily tied into what their graphics engine can do, AFAIK. It would be a lot of work, and it might be easier if they just produced a new game, with a new engine.
Theoretically, the character data should be transferable if the game concepts were kept essentially the same. I wonder whether people would go with a new iteration of the game if they could move their old characters over. Some would obviously prefer to level their toon from scratch anyway, taking into account new features, but some might like their characters enough to want to keep them.

I would be more likely to change to a v2 if i could take my chars with me. -

We've actually been told the current engine can do way more than we get, but doesn't due to worries over performance hits. Perhaps it just needs a bit of optimization...
[/ QUOTE ]
There are two important rules of optimisation in the software industry. These are:
1. Don't do it.
2. Don't do it yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why's that then?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's basically an old hacker adage. Optimising code generally results in it becoming impossible to maintain, plus, to be frank, humans suck at it. Modern compilers are almost infinitely better at optimising code than the programmer writing it is.
So, your first try at 'optimising' something should be to not even bother trying, because it's pretty likely you'll just turn the code into unreadable rubbish for a 0.000001% improvement in overall performance.
If there really is a problem, then you should try manual optimisation, but it should be left as the absolutely last option.
And with modern graphics systems, pipelining, multiprocessing, etc, those old adages are even more true then they were back in the day.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh right, cheers for that. So would upgrading this engine be more trouble than it's worth as well, in your opinion? -

2. It'd give me a laugh thinking of all the people who've left for the US servers and lost their vet awards

I have a question about the logic of a proposed server jump to the USA.
If Unions busy times (activety wise) correseponde roughly with the USA quite (barring the big two servers) times, won't we be jumping from one level of activity to exactly the same level of activety?
If a major gripe about a server merge with union is the fact you would have dupe name issues- wont you have the same problem going to the usa servers?
If, say half the euro population migrated, they would be split across the usa servers so there would be minimal population increase for those servers.
So, my conclusion is simple: Merge defiant and union but (bearing in mind this is the internet, from a corporate perspective keep us all under the same service team.
That way, the major gripe of being neglected would be wiped. Same forums, same website same service.
Effectively Unient (!) would simply become another usa server, the only difference being where our server is housed and the maintainance for that.
No?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think merging Union and Defiant would be great.
If they open up migration to the US servers i think it will kill the EU dead, and just make the 2 busy US servers busier, because everyone will just migrate to them.
If they control migration and only let you migrate to the less busy US servers, who's gonna bother? Because less lag is the only benefit then. -
Might even get to play GTA 4 on pc before i13 gets out at this rate. Roll on December 3rd

as happy as i am that they seem to be finaly addressing the base and salvage issues i find myself anoyed because the eu hasnt been included in this survey there is only a few of us able to cross post on both eu and us forums so where do the eu gamers get to have there say in responce to those questions

We probably get it the day after i13 is live. -

If there is no refund... how will they go and do the ranking system? It is based on prestige. And if the SG is not rebuilding the base that prestige will be locked away not counting anywhere.
Then again.. I cant see the biggest SG's taking down their complete base over this. That will be months of work.
[/ QUOTE ]
The amount of prestige earned wont change, it's just the amount you have to spend that will go up if you can be arsed to destroy ya base.
So the rankings will be the same.
