So for ages I was getting quietly optimistic about MA.
Even done halfwell there would be a great source for:
* the imaginative people to be creative and tell new and interesting stories
* xp/INF farmers to create there own farms
* people who just want to play but know the dev-arcs off by heart to get some new stories and encounters, and even new custom mobs
* skill tests and challenges for the people who consider CoX to be too easy (whether in general or for specific characters)
Heck - you pays your money you play your way. MA could deliver something for a lot of different playstyles.
There are bugs, but every large program change is bound to have bugs. If you don't think that's acceptable then please accept my application to your game when it's available.
OK - if I'm honest IMO it needed to wait til after Easter, but that's not the the thing that's got me a little riled...
I think that the devs have pretty much delivered a decent v1 MA editor (heck - if you knew me you'd know that this is actually high praise).
But...
...then I look at the abhorent arc browser, the poor feedback mechanism and worst of all I looked at the mass of arcs that were appearing.
In under 24 hrs I think there had been 12000+ missions published (although many were later unpublished or dropped off the browser). IIRC There were 6000+ published arcs appearing in the browse results at c.20:00 last night...
Many of these arcs are utter dirge that seem to have been thrown together ASAP just to get whatever badges might be going. They are the type of thing that would be more than acceptable during beta on test, when trying to test the system and find bugs, but on live?!?!?!
If we remove every 'play me for easy badges' we'd get rid of a good percentage of the published arcs... we'd maybe lose 10%.
If we then remove every duplicated farm (heck I don't mind people having farms.. but do we need so many?) and every duplicate mission (that was published twice from over eager button-clicking) we'd lose a further 20%.
Strip out the blatant IP infringing ones, the defamatory ones about famous RL people and the bigotted ones (if the mission info was correct I really can't understand people who use a tool like MA to create the homophobic rubbish that one arc seemed to be) and I think we're down to about 60% left.
Get rid of the ones with absolute minimal imagination/effort that are just done to be ill-considered ego-boosting 'this is the origin of me aren't I uber' arcs (but we can leave the well written entertaining ones) and we have about 40% left.
Now remove all the ones where the publisher* shows a complete lack of imagination and can't even be bothered to make it look like they care and I guess we'd be down to about 10% left.
If we removed all the above from infecting the public MA reopository then we could probably just about manage with the inadequate search functionality that exists, as most arcs would at least stand a chance of having general appeal and the author spent more than 5 minutes thinking about them.
I know that my tastes won't be everyones - but I'm not asking that every arc is good in my (subjective) opinion. But it would be good if at least most arcs tried to have some appeal...
I don't mind farmers having farms. I don't mind the odd 'play this for x easy badges' arc. But I just think that anything of any real quality or value is going to be lost in the sheer size of the landslide of excrement.
It's a little like how when the computer finally started reaching homes virtually every shop selling them had at least one computer where some idiot had started 10 PRINT "KEVIN IS GREAT! ": GOTO 10...
Such a waste of a tool with such potential committed by tools with such little potential.
* note: not 'author' or 'creator' as both these terms carry implied creativity when referring to 'stories'.
[/ QUOTE ]
2 points, one is who are you or me or anyone to decide what a [censored] arc is and think it's better to have them removed.
And two, is did you really believe this was going to end any other way?
I dont think this was a waste of a tool, i think it was a waste of an issue, that has left a lot of people with a non event. But thats just an opinion of course. -

5 is the teamsize in WoW, so I played 5. Plus, Keyclone allowed almost total control of all 5 characters too.
Only ever playing 1 character on CoX before and being bitten by the boxing bug, I thought, I can run 5 on WoW, I can run 5 here. I have to say though, I will probably drop an account or two in the future.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dont get me wrong im sure you could run 8 here, i was just wondering why your bothering.
I can see the point of 2 or 3 but what you actually aiming to do here?
When you have the chars you want levelled they will be split between 5 accounts, with no chance of consolidating them on 1 or 2 accounts, so to access them means paying 5 subs. -
[ QUOTE ]
I agree with your comments guys, but I did (stupidly) put in the message of the day what I had done and that it was to help with crafting recipes not for selling, and not to be greedy. I was so tired after all the converting i didn't really want to log in lots of alts to put into the vault. I had intended myself and the other leader to do it within the next couple of days. My leader alt's vault storage was full of my own salvage that I was saving for some sets I had recently bought. Unfortunately the offending member got in there before i could.

Ask a GM , see what they say. As they now seem to want to start mediating SG problems in i14, ask one to start now, get a bit of practise in.
Tell him you crafted the items, clearly said they were not to be taken for profit, and not all by one person.
See if you get the usual [censored] reply, its your fault for giving the permission, or actually get something useful done. -

I think t enjoy multiboxing here preferably choose something with lots of spike damage, small setup times, maybe lots buff stacking too.
All fire blaster team for example with 1 debuffer or buffer (preferably kin or sonic) could be a fun experience.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, the Fire/Rad controllers did seem a lot easier to run with, it's the setup that's the pain with the MM's. Although I've gone for all Thugs for the enforcer's buff, then 1xDM, 2xFF and 2xTraps. I have the feeling that they are more well suited to street sweeping, rather than running mission arcs, which is what I enjoy doing, and is possibly where my problem arises.
I'll go with these a bit longer, at least until I get some group travel powers under my belt, then I will decide.
[/ QUOTE ]
I must admit im curious, why 5? I can see 3 but 5 seems more hassle than its worth. -
[ QUOTE ]
OH BOY! In the words of Illidan, "YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!"
If you don't know WoW, you won't know the quote, but it fits nicely into what I just went through
I logged in to Union on the blue side, created my 5 Fire/Rad controllers, with the idea of using them to get my own SG Base up and running as fast as possible. Clothed them, named them, logged them in .. BOOM! I was hit by a wall of hate. According to the populace, I'm a hacker, a cloner, a farmer, a cheat etc etc etc.
Why can't they just see me as another player to bolster the thinning ranks of the game?
Ah well, time to give the Villain side a go, or maybe Defiant
[/ QUOTE ]
Go for it mate, ignore the idiots, when they want to pay your subs, their opinion is worth something. -
[ QUOTE ]
Its a game whihc to have a very good head start u need a fundematal understanding in maths and how 1 formula effects the other
[/ QUOTE ]
No its not, its a game, full stop. And if they have introduced an element that needs maths to resolve, its a bigger fail than i origanally thought.
[ QUOTE ]
I guess if u cant do that then bad luck i spose. I love figures and mucking around with numbers, i enjoy working out things and i worked away around the fundemental flaws in PvP we have atm
[/ QUOTE ]
Good for you, most people cant be arsed, they just liked blasters that blasted, and defenders that defended, not a [censored] up, spread sheet, degree in maths needing mess.
[ QUOTE ]
Im not saying everything is rosey becoz it quite blatenly isnt, but if u cant understand where i am basing my structured comments from then i guess its not my fault why you guys dont grasp what you have to do to beat the FotM system.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your structured comments about needing a degree in maths to resolve something that this last issue has made considerably worse than it was before you mean (the FotM just killed me in pvp problem i mean). Your not the only one with a degree or some intelegence, most people just dont want a brain ache you know? They just want to play a game.
[ QUOTE ]
I would explain it but i fear it would be on death ears, so i guess i'll let the inane and endless rants about how rubbish pvp is from your guys becoz i dont really wanna debate with ppl that are so shut off and uninterested in listening to a constructive prose... I see why now no Dev pays attention to this "destructive" issue on PvP
[/ QUOTE ]
No no, dont be like that, iv listened to and read you point of view on it being easy to overcome these pvp problems by being a maths genious, then decided you are just talking [censored], but i did read and understand what you were saying before coming to that conclusion.
That come out harsher than it was intended, but come on Saphi, how is swapping one FotM for a worse one that now makes no sense and needs maths to get round a step in the right direction? -
[ QUOTE ]
Okies Shotta, i really do get where u rooks and TG come from (on a side note rooks I DO NOT appreciate being called irrelevant, I am entited to my opinion as are u, just becoz i dont tottally agree with u doesnt give u the right to call me irrelevant)
I find Travel Suppression and the resist buffs beyond stupid, y remove the fulidity from the game and make an AT into smt that they are not.
DR has screwed the pvp over as well, saying all of this i have a very good grasp of the pvp numbers, (elusivity i'm still trying to fully understand) they are not that hard for a mathmatician to comprehend. I have done several Very Good PvP builds for a few of my friends (based on the numbers given from PvP) all of which do and are working currently in PvP
Coming from a mathmatician's point of view, I dont think the datamining was done properly or at least wasnt coherently done with sense, some things are so skewed that even I strugged (and i studied Maths at university). Ive done my own calaculations to formulate the best way to build a toon for new pvp and so far 100% have worked and stand up to most other toons.
Pvp is not, and i state NOT, in a state of disrepair. Understand the numbers and you'll be fine. Granted this doesnt solve the fulidity problem (or more to the point static), which f**ks me off beyond belife.
Yes this PvP should never have gone Zonal, but unfortunately its there and wheather you like it or hate it we all have to deal with it and more than likely its going to be fustrating us for sometime. This is where unfortunately adaptation is needed. Its basically put up and shut up or leave. Its pointless listing a string of things that are wrong becoz even I could be here for sometime. The only way to solve this is to make as many constructive critisims, with back uped solutions. Yes i know the devs will prolly not listen, but it is the only way and hope we have to improve the struggle we all feel atm in PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why on earth should you have to have a degree in maths to make an aspect of a game playable?
That means it IS in a state of disrepair as you put it. In fact its beyond that, its gone to [censored].
People made constructive comments, hundreds of them, and got totally ignored by the way. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you like to bend over and adjust quietly go ahead and good for you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Medic.... we need the lube here please! -
[ QUOTE ]
and this is why this hole dam PvP thing annoys the hell out of me since i13 hit in fact before i13 hit every week there's some form of mention about PvP being broke there's always some form of moan
[/ QUOTE ]
No what you had were the people moaning that every time they went into a pvp zone to farm, or get a badge or even god forbid pvp, they got killed cos it was all too much for them.
The people they changed it for.
The same people that still aint pvp'ing now.
[ QUOTE ]
what these people should have done if they felt so strongly about the changes to PvP is say there piece and then actually quit don't threaten to quit actually quit cancel the sub and stop logging in that's how they would have got there point across but instead they threaten to quit and then don't.
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny enough most did, dont confuse temp forum accounts or posting on here with playing, it just shows some of us are stupid enough to carry on supporting this game while not playing it.
Keep taking the pills. -
[ QUOTE ]
ye so I use pff, only cause now everything in bloody i13 hits harder than blasters.
It's called picking the lesser of 2 evils.
And before you say i've taken well to it , pyrocandy is a basic lvl 50 with so's because all my io'd toons are humped in pvp now.
So I'm very much against rock hard dominators, blasting stalkers, and unhittable forts,....
So lay off my pff that most still have a 20% chance to penetrate!
I thank you >
[/ QUOTE ]
I suppose his ball suck is out of the question then -
[ QUOTE ]
Well here's a news flash its not your game and how things are done in it are not your decision to make if the Devs have decided that they want CoH to have a more "fight club" style PvP then so be it if you don't like that style of PvP well its a free world your free not PvP in CoH no one is forcing you to play CoH yet here you are.
[/ QUOTE ]
And here's a news flash for you, the devs have killed pvp deader than it ever was. So it is an epic fail. And in that respect TG and everyone else now moaning are right.
And the only thing more of an epic fail, is that they intend to waste more time on it, rather than admit it aint worked and put it back. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Instead we should encourage the Devs to forge on with there changes and politely point out things that don't work.
[/ QUOTE ]
Forge on wasting resources and turn this epic fail into an even more refined and diverse epic fail, that no one is going to be interested in, good plan that.
I can see it now, not only will the zones be empty, but you will be able to play capture the [censored] flag in an empty zone too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes forge on when they nerfed regen and then nerfed it some more people moaned and screamed and called the Dev's all sorts and predicted the end of regen scrappers. Oh look there still here and still dam good hell most people now accept that they were far to good pre Nerf
Or hows about ED it was gonna kill the game no one was going to play it after it hit they didn't want to be weak look there still playing
and at the time they said that they needed to do it to make way for a new system people didn't believe them said that nothing would come but oh look the invention system arrived.
So yes forge ahead its a work in progress.
[/ QUOTE ]
All of your above examples effected a lot of people and over all helped the game. So were worth spending the time on.
The difference here is pvp only ever effected a tiny minority, the people that said they were leaving HAVE left and have not been replaced by new ones. So it aint worth spending the resources on.
You know why? Because people dont want to pvp in this game in any great numbers and nothing they do will change that.
So why at a time when this game cant afford to [censored] existing players off do they do these things? Or even contemplate wasting more resources on flogging a dead horse.
They could have fixed pvp to a huge extent very easily without this epic fail, villain healers alone nearly did it. -
[ QUOTE ]
You do realise there's a closed beta on right now so people could no that there are changes to PvP in i14.
That is unless your in the beta and no for sure that there's not?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well what they want to do is try talking about these changes instead of the usual big, great and soon [censored], that no one is interested in hearing any more.
And then try listening when they get told dont bother because no one is interested, or that it plays terribly. -
[ QUOTE ]
Instead we should encourage the Devs to forge on with there changes and politely point out things that don't work.

expensive instant chat client though
depends how long they were there, but the names are obviously spur of the moment type of names you see spambots use to sign up to internet forums (i've seen many many spam accounts) and the fact that the AT was Brute (first choice on the list) + the costume was default leads me to think that the characters were created by a bot of some description. it would be interestign to see the powersets and the power choice, also if there is a link to a website in the character description
of course they could be real players. But the description given points to an increased possibility of being bots or spam accounts. I never said "they're definitely positively bots/scammers" I only answered your question about what the exploit could be
[/ QUOTE ]
To be honest i havent got a clue what they are there for, i dont really give a monkeys, people should report them if it makes them feel good, not name and shame them on the forum.
Like you i was just trying to make a point, that not everything has a sinister undertone. -
[ QUOTE ]
they could be contact points for inf selling
they could be accounts hooked up to a monitor that records all names that appear on the team search menu, refresh and list compare done at intervals could build up a list of playernames for spamming emails.
they could be bot accounts auto generated
[/ QUOTE ]
They could be standing there talking.
-
[ QUOTE ]
From your description, it sounds like an exploit.
[/ QUOTE ]
Iv got to ask, what do you think 2 chars standing in mercy are exploiting? -
[ QUOTE ]
Given that it's now easier to get the missions required for those kinds of badges because of Ouroboros, I would have thought it'd have been less likely for people to charge now because of the higher availability.
I've never been asked for inf for such a mission, and I can tell you if ever I was, I'd promptly leave it.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would be my thoughts on this too. -
Yea i tried to log in for the 1st time in a couple of weeks tonight to get a vet badge, couldnt even move it was that bad.
