Sent you the costumes of my flagship guys!

Also, note the timestamps. A lot of the bad reviews seem to be from 2011. Many from 2008 were glowing.
Hmm ... -
Double posting here, I know, but I wanted to just point out, I caught this within the past hour:
Rumor: Paragon in Discussions to Save City of Heroes
Alpha Wolf's words have been picked up by the press. It also goes on further to detail the community's efforts to prevent the game from getting killed off, listing the vigil, letter writing campaign, and petition.
I like this bit the most:
"This example of gamers banding together for the forces of good is a lot like the kind of quests you'd find in City of Heroes - funny that..." -

Quote:Ahem.What a waste of money.
I couldn't afford that, and even if I could I would not do it. It's a wank. You'd just look like the spandex version of furries and have more people making fun of you than anything.
Transit Superhero Protesters Take Over Massachusetts DOT Meeting
Student 'superheroes' protest in Chile
Ministry's 'secret' employees turn to superheroes
Superbarrio Gómez
I wouldn't necessarily call it a wank. -
If only I had characters unlocked on Virtue ... ;_;

Quote:It would send a powerful message, especially if you made sure the media knew beforehand you'd be organizing a rally llike that.Ya know Scythus I think you're onto something with that pic. If you really want to get everyone's attention...like REALLY get their attention...dress up as your character and stand in front of NCSoft headquarters with a boycott sign.
It'd take planning, though. How many people playing can make it to a demonstration in Austin? We've got people all over the world playing this game ... how many of them could make it to a protest rally, let alone cosplay for it?
I'm not trying to rain on your parade here; just saying, this is a great idea but it's gotta take some planning. -

Quote:... I've ether had too much coffee or not enough, because the word "temper" set to mind Zwillinger as he looked when he dropped in on me last year, dramatically forging a Sword of Expectations, and tempering it by quenching it in a vat of water labeled "Discussions."I want everyone to please temper their expectations with the word "discussions". Please, don't take this to mean more than it does, at this point in time.
All set to this music. -
Alright, I'll keep that in mind. If nothing else all the souvenirs and progress will at least be backed up somehow. Thanks for the tip!
And I wish I could help with the code side of Titan Network's efforts, but I don't know parsers from peanuts. -
Quote:Yeah, I can see ... That's the same kind of sneerfest when Tabula Rasa kicked the bucket. There was a follow up on Kotaku following the news, but that was a couple of days ago and it cycled through really quickly. I don't know if there has been more since.
http://kotaku.com/5939855/
edit: the few comments that are there weren't kind, either.
I think Addicting Info had the right angle, even if they wound up meandering off into politics. They didn't just slap on a brief notice about the petition. It was a full-blown article about the community's full range of efforts. -
-
Quote:Yeah. It's probably a given that NCSoft's announcement will not go unnoticed by major journalism sites, but they're not really covering the drive the player base has to rescue the game. If there's some way we can get those sites to write articles on that (or if we can submit articles), someone in the know oughta try. Also, the content might not be what you're looking for 'cause they're just general closing news...but hm...I do support getting more news out to them ON topic
-
Good to know there's more sites covering our fight! This is somewhat a rehash, but I told somebody I know about the ongoing efforts to get the word out about City of Heroes' death and the player base's attempts to stop it from happening. I showed him some of the articles that have been published already, from Game & Guide and Addicting Info.
His response was,
"So that's two articles from one site I've barely even heard of, and one I've never heard of. Where is Kotaku? Where is The Verge? Where is Ars Technica? FFS, where's Slashdot, even?"
If anybody knows how to get ahold of (or post articles to) Kokatu, The Verge, Ars Technica, or Slashdot, they oughta try. -
Quote:"HEEEEEEEEEEEEERE'S POSI!"It's still a long shot - but the word "discussion" implies that NCSoft are at least prepared to listen - unless all it means is that Positron is using a sledgehammer to break down an NCSfot exec's door to arrange a "meeting".
... though that might be Anti-Matter posing as him, come to think. -
... You guys are making me think crazy things.
Like a Water Blast hero with green-colored powers and a battle cry of "MINT SAUCE!" -
Quote:And there's always crowdfunding. We've got a number of people here who said they'd pay up to $1,000 just to save the game from death. If that's what they're looking to do, and that does make sense to try and branch out as a new studio, I'm meeting up with someone tomorrow who's a funds manager for a large venture capital firm and I'll get it in his ear. At the very least I can pick his brain on what the market looks like from the inside for that kind of venture in this market.
Even if nobody pays THAT much into it, there's still a lot of us who'd be willing to contribute even just a small amount. -
Quote:By request, do you mean the entire category comes up? For example, if you were to look at your list of contacts, would the server send you all information about your status with contacts at that time? Would it do similarly if you go looking at your souvenirs?Unfortunately, both of those are information that the server sends only when you request it. There's no way to dump them all at once.
If so, maybe you could have a function where the program "listens" for that information, and tells the player to request it so that it can capture it? -
I don't think TonyV's posted a specific Call to Action thread for this.

He does have a point. It's awesome that there's blogging and journalism sites covering our fight ... but have there been any efforts to get the bigger sites covering this with the same focus that Gamenguide and Addicting Info have? -
-
Quote:Oh wow. Is that what people meant by character origins initially playing a bigger role in the game? There was also the whole thing about how origin would affect your character. This is from memory of the old descriptions on the site but:
*snip*
I wonder how much of that was inspired by the HERO system? I never played it, but I know City of Heroes was inspired by it. -
