Close. The crate in Raiders is 9906753.
So maybe the 5th just grabbed the wrong one?

...Please tell me you know that because you went and looked it up.

Warriors missions dealing with Platonic Solids and
    Pythagoreans, both mathematics references.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, its more then just Mathmatics references, its actual history. The Pythagoreans were an actual group. (Fun bonus. If you've seen Reign: The Conqueror by Peter Chung, then you also know of the Pythagoreans)
  3. [ QUOTE ]

Btw, the only bad word I've ever said about you, LiquidX, was when you changed from that, er, Liquid-y looking avatar. It had an X on it too, and I'm sure it was some character that I'm supposed to recognize, but I don't. If that's the jerkiest thing you ever do, well, you're okay in my book. (Yeah, I know, like it mattered. )

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you refering to THIS one?

EDIT: In regards to something Primal said... what is with all the hate for Spacekitten? Aside from a flamefest with Twilight Avengers a few months ago (and I certainly don't blame SK for not getting along with those guys) I have yet to see him/her say something anywhere close to nasty.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now that you mention it... What IS it with that? I can understand the hate for me because... well... I can be a really big jerk half the time, but Spacekitten?

ladies and gentlemen, please greet our new puffy shirt!

    [/ QUOTE ]

NOOOO! You dare not speak that name here! Defiler!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm afraid I'm lost on the Puffy Shirt comment.

    [/ QUOTE ]

PuffyShirt was a poster here on the forums way back in the beginning. He was definitely around for the last month of beta, and I'm not sure if he stuck around for the actual release.

He was, in all sense of the word, a complete and utter troll. THE perfect example of one, actually. He was competent enough to write and express himself properly, so you couldn't just write him off as some dumb kid. He did nothing but complain (and I mean COMPLAIN... not a single thing he ever said could be construed as positive in any way), he was straight out offensive to anyone who disagreed, he would actively try to derail threads, etc etc. You get the point.

His tenure on the boards ended when someone made a post that had a title similar to "PuffyShirt should be banned from the forums." Everyone and their mother commented on this, and he spent the whole time arguing and insulting. Finally he just went away.

When someone calls you "the next PuffyShirt" it sure as hell isn't meant as a compliment. It basically labels you as a moderately intelligent troll who whines incessently and contributes nothing whatsoever to the community.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: I am not expressing a personal opinion of you. That is how most everyone feels about PuffyShirt. If Brawl called you "the next PuffyShirt" I assume, however, that is how he thinks of you (albeit I'm sure he wasn't entirely serious).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ahhh, PuffyShirt and London...

No finer examples of Whiney Trolliticus Nerdopicus exists.

I'm kinda sad no one got this:

Curry Cove = Arthur Curry = Aquaman.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That's because Aquaman sucks.

I haven't done this mission yet in Issue 3 so maybe it's been changed, but there's a train mission were you have to stop 5th Column from killing hostages. And one of the Nazi Bosses last name is Cheyne. I was not really happy about that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Why is that?
  8. [ QUOTE ]
One of the ones I think is fairly obvious is Cutlass Isles in Peregrine.

If you've ever been over there you know that the whole place is literally SWARMING with Rikti monkeys.

The famous Lucas Arts adventure game series involving monkeys and pirates was, of course, Monkey Island.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now all we need is a three headed Rikti Monkey.
  9. (Mission spoiler)

In one mission dealing with the warriors, you are tasked with retrieving five Platonic Solids stolen by the Warriors. It also references the Pythagoreans.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Ive grown tired of breaking this down to you so we can just agree to disagree...cool?...alright great!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I think we can both agree that the rules could have used some clarification, and were most likely unintentionally misleading.

    [ QUOTE ]

I mean, the contest allowed you to use images from the website. That, by definition, is photoshopping somebody else's work. Unless you want to capitalize Photoshop and say "I used The Gimp".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Like you said allowed you to use images from the website to incorporate into your piece. Regardless of what program you used or how you incorporated it into your design. As I said in one of my previous posts if the comic book was fair game then what would be the point of submitting orginal artwork when everyone else had all the COH publications at their disposal?

    [/ QUOTE ]

What it says is: "taking an image and altering it slightly (via Photo Shop, for example), then presenting it as your own work is strictly prohibited.". In other words, you couldn't take a picture of Wolverine, color his eyes blue, then claim it was your own original piece of art. And he didn't alter the CoH comics. While he "prettied them up" layout wise, he never actually changed or modified any of the artwork.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
2nd place: I think his entry should have been disqualified. The images in the background appear to be images from the most recent comic book. Clearly a violation of the rules on the site. If I’m wrong about that then I apologize. That’s just how I understood it.

Rules: You can use the following to create your wallpaper entries – logos/graphics from the Official City of Heroes web site, in-game images that you capture yourself, and of course, your own original work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

After taking a look, I don't see anything in the rules specifically saying the contestants couldn't use images from the comic. They say you can't trademarked characters not owned by Cryptic/NCSoft, and they say you can't photoshop work and claim its your own, but they say nothing about being unable to use images from the official CoH comic.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
The major complaint is that overall, the best entries weren't represented in the gallery and the winners came from that gallery... If you call that being a sore loser than fine, but that obviously not who the masses feel about it...

    [/ QUOTE ]

And thats your opinion that the best entries were not represented in the gallery. Obviously, the Judges did not feel that way, otherwise someone else would have won. And remember, this contest was not judged by the "Majority", but by Cryptic, and they are the ones whos votes counted.
  14. You know, I really love how with every contest Cryptic holds, you get people that are completly insistent that everything is rigged and that dirty dealings took place. Reminds me of the McCarthy era...

Correct! Arucard from Hellsing, one of my favorite anime series of all time.

The name from the manga and anime is pronounced "Alucard," but the Japanese alphabet does not have an L (when translated). The letter R is the closest letter translation. Or so I'm told.

...wow, I couldn't be more off topic if I tried. Sorry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Rrrgh...Spell Alucard backwards, darn it! Alucard is the *correct* spelling, as the most famous vampire of all time is not *Dracura*!

    [/ QUOTE ]

He's also not basing himself on Alucard from the Castlevania series, Kosh. He's based on Arucard from Hellsing, and he's using the name as it is used in the translations of the series. So really, the whole "Backward Dracula" thing doesen't work here.
  16. LiquidX

    Interesting.....

Actually, I believe he's supposed to be Arucard from Hellsing.

(The anime and Manga. Not to be confused with Van Hellsing, the movie)
  17. Just remember, that in order to gain the job of CoH Online Community Rep you must first:

    A) Collect the golden chalice filled with the life giving ambrosia, the nector of the gods themselves. (Translation: "Get enough Squishees from the Local 7-11 for the Cryptic Staff")

    B) Contend with the slavering troll beasts in the pit of dispair. (Translation: "Work in the Cryptic Support Offices after the latest changes to Hasten, Stamina, Invincibility, Smoke Grenade, and anything else")

C: Brave the Trial by Fire. (Translation: "Walk through the Hallways of Cryptic while Geko, Positron, Bridger, and Statesman have their weekly Bean Burrito Chillie feasts")

D: Defeat CuppaJo in a steel cage match. (Translation: "Defeat CuppaJo in a steel cage match... after she's learned that the local Starbucks shut down thanks to you")

Yes, your testing was mostly pointless, the threads in the "dev corner" were ignored, and issue 3 was rammed live pretty much as is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Please ignore the troll.

The Developers decided that even with the minor bugs, they were happy with the last patch (for the most part) and went live with it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with him. Barring a major patch in the works the testing was pretty much pointless. The Devs had their minds made up and anything done beyond that wasn't just pointless it was ignored.

The Inv thread got ignored by Statesman and the developers.
184 pages with some decent feedback ignored because they flat out didn't care about the players that took the time and effort to test THEIR mistakes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just because they didn't change anything immedietly, or to your liking, doesen't mean they ignored things. It simply means they disagree with your line of reasoning, or they felt given their resources and timetable, certain things needed to be put off.

What I meant is that I can ACCEPT not being able to enter competitions now, while the game is still only OFFICIALLY released in North America but I want to be allowed to enter the UK competitions even if I still play ont the US servers when the UK goes live, as I will be a UK customer, only I'll continue to play on the US side.

I can live with the downtime as it is now, after weighing the pros and cons I would prefer to stay on the US servers rather then 1, having to pay again for another version of the game, 2, Starting from scratch (Which having a level 40 main, I REALLY don't want), 3, I would lose a lot of team mates.

If I have to move the UK servers to get the UK benefits then so be it, but I do NOT want to pay again for the privilege, I also want my characters transfered after putting so much time, effort and MONEY into playing them. Also I want my prestige powers from both the pre order and the DVD to be carried over.

So all in all, it is best for me to either stay on the US servers or better still, for CoH to be global as so many other games are. That way I can benefit from both worlds.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now see, I can understand the concerns about not being able to enter European contests if you play on a US server. But odds are, if they hold "Eurocentric" contests, it wouldn't matter what "specific" server you were playing on as long as you lived in the Eurpean nations. As for the character transfer, even we *americans* don't have the ability to transfer characters between servers (And the game is officially only a US release right now). Now, if in the future they bring out the ability to transfer characters, then I would support the ability for existing customers to transfer their characters to the Eurpoean servers free of charges. (At least, as long as it was a one time per customer kind of thing).

and down time for maintenance at a time that is not in the middle of the day for people in Europe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And thats what is going to happen with the European servers.

    [ QUOTE ]
I also want to be able to play at times when other people are around without having to do a task force in the middle of the night.

I was invited to beta, as were many Non-North Americans, so when the game went live of course a lot of us decided to purchase the game there and then.

How many people with a character they have put a lot of time and effort into developing would be HAPPY?

    Any other questions?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, if you have had no problems playing on the US servers NOW, I don't see why everything is going to change just because they open the European servers.

And as a paying customer, btw, I demand that the game be translated into Klingon. And I want Klingon Empire servers, too! Because I'm a paying customer, and we Trekkies deserve it just as much as you fancy pants Europeans!
  21. Statesman has stated in interviews that the plan is to charge ONE FEE, regardless if you own one or BOTH games. So everyone would be paying a flat 15 dollar fee to play BOTH games. (Not 15 + 15)

Woot! Positron plays Netrunner! Loved that game! Still do! Looks like lots of people still do too!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats because it was a great game. If theres one thing about Richard Garfield, it's that he knows what makes a fun game. It's too bad that Wizards of the Coast ruined magic with way to much errata and way to many cards. In a way, I'm kind of glad Netrunner didn't suffer the same fate.

    "I got a rock"

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I don't know if it's related to the Peanuts thing, and maybe I'm seeing links where there aren't any, but I remember a Netrunner card with the title "I got a rock." I was told it was a reference to some Cyberpunk thing, referring to a corporation with the ability to drop a satelite or meteor onto someone's house from orbit.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Netrunner card is the same Easter Egg... it is referencing the Peanuts cartoon.

The event the card refers to is the destruction of Boulder (Denver?), Colorado by the Tycho Mining Corporation on the moon. They used a mass-driver to launch a big chunk-o-Moon at the Earth. (At least that's what I can remember from when I used to run 'Punk. I am sure someone will fact check me and point out if I am wrong.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow. A dev who's played Netrunner. No wonder Positron is cool. Now if only the giant pumpkin headed spawn had Santa hostage...

Do I need to remind you of the debacle that was Daikatana? THAT is an example of how badly overhyping a game can be.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah Daikatana. May Romero burn in hell.

Of course, the master if hype (with a capital Hype) has to be Derek Smart.

    BattleCruiser 3000AD can join Romero.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would point out that the hype on Daikatana came not from Romero but from the marketers and a couple of overzealous underlings. The "John Romero will pwn you!" ad debacle wasn't from him, but he took the heat from it because it kind of felt true. (As anyone who's heard Romero scream, "Suck it!" during a Quake deathmatch can attest.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course, what it all comes down to was that it was the overhyping that truly killed Daikatana. There were two reasons for this:

1: It ticked off ALOT of people. Any (And there were plenty) flaws in the game were magnified. What WOULD have just been dismissed as a substandered game became a total flaming wreck. In other words, it was like pouring gasoline on a grease fire, and then adding some gunpowder for kicks.

2: Once the whole "John Romero will make" ad ran, it completly screwed over any chance that they could have pulled out gracefully. While it was completly obvious that Daikatana was doomed, pulling the plug would have been just as bad (If not worse) a PR incident.

And finally: Derek Smart is just , plain and simple.
