Personally, I love whatever Dev was responsible for THIS in CoV.

That's just about the greatest thing I've ever seen in a video game.

I know. I'm glad I wasn't drinking at the time.

So, to claim that CoH is becoming "Lineage in Tights" is Erroneus at best, and an outright lie at the worst.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's neither of those -- it's a statement of opinion. Nothing more.

When I say that CoH is becoming Lineage-In-Tights, I'm referring to my opinion as to the financial focus of the game. It used to be aimed at casual players and superhero fans. Now it is being aimed at PvP players and the competitive Asian market. It's just a change of design philosophy. The gameplay has not changed that dramatically, but it has changed enough that many people who loved the previous philosophy of the game loathe the new changes.

Just my opinion. Nothing you say will change it -- you cannot convince me that I like what City of Heroes has become. Nor will I convince you that the changes are detrimental to the game, because you like the way the game has changed. We apparently like different kinds of games. Congratulations, things went your way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    So, tell me something...

How exactly does allowing Heroes and Villains to beat the snot out of each other go AGAINST Superhero fans? Hell, Casual Gamers STILL have it easier here then they do in games like WoW or Lineage 2.

I'm going to defend States here briefly. And then, as I am wont to do, complain a bit about what he's done.

CoH/CoV is doing well. Cryptic is a small development company, and they are competing against big guns like Blizzard and Sony, and they are doing moderately well at that.

The game's focus has changed, and perhaps it needed to change. While it was focused on immersion and exploration, it has shifted to achievement and competition. Exploration only keeps players entertained for so long, it seems, and I'm sure they will hold more subscribers by re-gearing toward the tried and true MMOG classics of level grinding and player-made content via PvP. Those classic playstyles will serve CoH well in theupcoming asian release, as the lucrative asian game parlors are designed for heavily competitive games like Lineage.

I am upset that the game has changed. I preferred the casual, relaxed play that CoH originally had. I also detest hard level grinds and have no interest in PvP. So the game has shifted out from under me, and it's no longer my kind of game. That's sad, but it is probably more financially sound to have the same kind of game as everyone else rather than something innovative and casual.

CoH used to be unique, but only moderately successful. I'm sure that it will become much more successful in the future, now that it is being changed into Lineage-in-Tights.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As someone who has played Lineage 2, I can guarantee that CoH/CoV is nowhere near "Lineage in tights". Now, I'm not a fan of PvP... however, it makes sense (Seeing as how villains and heroes clash regularly in comics), and (Heres the important part) NOTHING is forcing you to participate in PvP.

Theres no Serverwide, completly open PvP. You can't be sitting around in atlas and suddendly get stabbed from behind by the 50th level "HughNutZack" or "URMOM". Hell, the ONLY thing you have to do is visit a PvP zone for five seconds (Without even leaving the safe area) and even THAT is going to be changed soon(tm) so that you don't even have to ENTER the zone.

We are even going to be getting the newspaper tech in CoH, so we don't even have to worry about street sweeping anymore. So, to claim that CoH is becoming "Lineage in Tights" is Erroneus at best, and an outright lie at the worst.

I do love it when people get to a'thinking that announcing the contents of their ignore list is how one goes about being "cool".

To be honest, I'm suprised Nozy can even read a good 98% of the forums at this point.
  10. Something I'm wondering though is why they don't utilize the cops or Longbow more often then they do. It'd go a long way to feeling more villainous if, instead of kidnapping some idiot from the Mooks for the 8th time, you were smacking around the cops to get to them.

I DO find it Interesting that Statesman always refers to MMORPGchart.com's numbers, but never the actual numbers posted by NCSoft itself where you CAN see subscrber actual hard subscription and usage number (just look at the MX-Excel spreadsheet they have - on opening it, while the tabs are in Korean; the info is tabulated and in English). My point is: The numbers ARE EASILY available to Jack and Co; yet he likes to refer to Sir Bruce's numbers, which even Sir Bruce himself admits are often speculation on his part because many games DO NOT publically publish numbers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Where do you think SirBruce gets his numbers?

    Yeesh.

What's great is that people have been saying we're ddddoooommmeeedd since launch, and yet surprisingly, here we are.

Apparently numerous bugs with contacts still exist too. A new one has cropped up, requiring us to log out after doing a newspaper mission in order to get into the next mission.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Naw, you don't have to do that. Just select the mission.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can select the mission fine. Clicking on the door gives me a message that I can't start a new mission before finishing the old on. Logging out and logging back in again clears that message.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hit the button marked "Select Mission". Thats what worked for me.

I can't think of a reason why the devs would want to "avoid" having level 50's generate extra prestige. It sounds like a perfect reward for maxing out your character, to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why would you want anything other than level 50's in your SG then?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because few people like having NO progress to make all the time..

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course, this doesen't take into account that they are working on new content for the 50 crowd.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
And Punisher and Spawn are not heroes of any sort. They don't care about doing what is right, they do what they want. Frank kills who he wants how he wants. He justifies this by preying on criminals. But there have been many issues that have dived into the fact that the Punisher is a psychopath. His writer Garth Ennis even says so.

Spawn doesn't even bother to go out and hunt down evil doers to kill. He just kills whomever gets in his way. He's not even really that pro-active about it.

They are both killers that just happen to kill bad guys is all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with you there. The Punisher has never been a Hero... He's not interested in Justice. This is why I don't like calling Batman a vigilante, because while Batman does act outside police Jurisdiction, his goal is to bring criminals in to be tried in a court of law. Which is far different then what a "true" vigilante like the Punisher does.

[Integrity of the game has to apply to the entire spectrum of players-- even those who think that school girls in minskirts and sailor suits are heroic and those who think that the tooth fairy is evil.

Well, they are heroic in Japan. Although I am really dissapointed that there are no tentacled monster costume options.

Isn't there a hero called Ghost Rider with a skull head ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep, plus the Punisher and The Phantom have skulls. Liquid pointed out that they are vigilantes, but nearly all superheroes are vigilantes. Yes some do "get a pass" from the authorities, or have been officially "ok'ed" by the authorities, but a lot of them fight crime because they want to, not because somebody gave them the authority to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The thing about the Punisher is that he's not really what you would call a hero. Yes, a guy like Batman (Who's often referred to as a Vigilante) acts outside the law. The key difference between the two, however, is that Batman brings down villains to have them tried in a court of law. The Punisher, however, doesen't care about "Justice". He's a killer. He's Judge, jury, and Executioner all in one.

In the end, the Punisher is as close as you can get to a villain without crossing that delicate line.

...But yeah, I realize I'm kind of nitpicking with Semantics here.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Punisher had a big old skull on his chest.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Punisher is not really a hero though. He's a Vigilante (Or, in other words, he's an Anti-Hero)

OK - here's the most likely outcome...

If you own both games, you get all options - the new CoV sets will be accessible for your heroes.
