I agree. Sure, I'd rather have a set named "Invulnerability" be all about resistance and MaxHp, with no def and healing (maybe a little regen), but that's not going to change, and the performance of the set is great.

I didn't notice the first read-through. Thank you for this.
  4. I have wanted full team sidekicking forever and ever! My SG often has to either turn people away from teams due to lack of mentors, or play mentor tetris, often resulting in people not getting to play the character they'd prefer to play.

This is pure awesome, thank you!

Oh... oh no. I hadn't even considered that possibility. I just realized what the NA suffix, that so many of us suddenly have, really stands for!

    Yeah.

If you see "She's a real thunder $%#@", do you think "thunder cracker" (intended as a positive assessment of her strength of personality), or do you think of one of the most offensive things you could call a woman?

What does a child or parent think when someone says to them, "Want to join us? We're ripping through $@%# at level 41" instead of "We're ripping through 45s at level 41"?

Does "I was admiring her $#%$ structure" sound more or less offensive than "I was admiring her facial structure"?

When facing the 5th Column, is "I hate these #%#@ jerks" more or less teen rated than "I hate these Nazi jerks"?

I remember being told that the profanity filter was going to be re-evaluated back in Issue 14. I'd like to know if that's still on the plate, if it's been abandoned, or if it's already happened.
  8. It's also possible that with the AE and Patrol XP offering increased leveling speed options, double XP just doesn't have the draw it used to.
  9. Objective Feedback:

I don't know if this is configurable, but the "Visitor Message" form that appears when you go to someone's profile is being confused with private messaging. I'm not sure what the value is in a public visitor message, and I think you're going to see a lot of people leaving public visitor messages when they mean to send private messages.

Check yours, TheOcho, you've got a couple that I'm sure weren't intended to be public.

I just saw that my EU counterpart has zero posts as well. Hopefully they'll give us priority, since our counterparts clearly don't care about posting on the forums.

I'm a bit disappointed by the MA animations, they look cool... but they don't feel like Martial Arts (karate, kung fu... etc).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think they feel like most comic hand-to-hand fighters: Batman, Daredevil, The Spirit, The Phantom, and such. However, if it helps any, here is Bruce Lee punching the hell out of Chuck Norris.
  13. To those interested parties: I talked to Positron at the Comic Con, and he said Rick Dakan wrote about 80% of the story bible.

About the animations for MA, I was wondering when I looked at them, it feels like like a work in progress. Some of the punches seemed pretty similar to the SS punches. They didn't look very martial arts oriented.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought they looked like punches Batman, the Question, Wildcat, Daredevil, and Nightcrawler would use. Not so much Shang-Chi, which might be what some people expect when they see the name "Martial Arts", but boxing is a martial art, too, and a damn effective one.
  15. My favorite review was from Penny Arcade. It was a combo CoH WoW article that stated, "while WoW takes traditional MMOs and says, 'let me show you a better way', City of Heroes says, 'you know what? %#$@ dragons.'"
  16. [ QUOTE ]

Pain Domination is entirely based on mental control. You don't actually 'heal' anyone, you just make them ignore any pain they might be feeling.

Kind of like how someone hopped up on PcP can demonstrate feats of 'invulnerability'.

Which is why it's a villainous powerset.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't understand the Dev's ideas on what is and isn't villainous in terms of powersets. Pain suppression is apparently villainous, but roasting people alive, bathing them in radiation, and emptying machine guns into them are all neutral.

I disagree with the idea that any powerset in the game is inherently heroic or villainous. I think it's how you use it. Healing the Joker while Batman is trying to knock him out to keep him from harming innocent people is villainous. Severely weakening Solomon Grundy with toxic poisons so that Green Arrow can take him down before he destroys several city blocks is heroic.

    It's just brilliant

Instead of making a whole new set for Brawling, Streetfight, whatever... all of which basically accomplish what Martial Arts already does, just change the Animations! Viola, my High Kicking Kane is now Bad Leeroy Brown

Curious as to what the Powers will be called with new Animations? Super Sucker Gut Punch can't still be called Crane Kick...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've been suggesting this forever forever (for MA)...really, why get Streetfighting, when MA with different animation van work just as well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Better, IMHO, because you can mix and match punches and kicks. I made the suggestion once, too! But BAB didn't like it. Probably because of the mechanics I suggested (duplicate, mutually exclusive powers with different animations), which would increase Castle and Company's workload. What we're getting is way better!

Apart from Spines being able to use the geometry from Thorns, and Thorns being able to use the geometry from Spines (both of which can be colored), there will be at least one other set of alternate geometry/FX.

This just popped into my head: Talsorian Spines?

As for Martial Arts, the alternate animations we have right now are mainly punches. The idea was to provide you guys with a way to make the classic, fights with their fists and feet, super-hero that many have been asking for. That includes a new animation for assassin's strike (Assassin's Blow?).

    [/ QUOTE ]

All of this is totally awesome, I will finally get to play spines without hating it, AND get my ideal solution to the missing punching Scrappers!

    Thanks BAB!
  22. [ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't use it. I do know the layout of most maps, but I use the fog of war to show me where I've been. Remove that, and it'll be much harder to find that last hostage or glowie.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same. I'll never use it unless it also reveals glowies, boss locations, and/or unsaved hostages.

I suppose I'd use it on City Maps for new characters, though, if it works there.

    Defender - Poison

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since obviously the ability to poison people is so heroic, not to mention a very good way to "defend" other people!

    You Rogue, you!

    [/ QUOTE ]
But Poison Gas Arrow uses a different sense of the word "poison"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was having this discussion with a friend of mine and we agreed Poison could easily be considered a Defender set but we think the devs should consider giving it a more heroic name like Alchemy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They should also give Assault Rifle a more heroic name, like Non-Lethal Projectile Weapon. They can say they fire rubber bullets, and flamethrowers only cause 4th degree burns! That's not lethal! Well, not always, anyway.
  24. [ QUOTE ]

    Maybe next time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Woo!

Regardless of the possibility of getting some of the requested sets here, I'm pretty happy with this set of proliferation. I was thrilled with the original power proliferation announcement, but I haven't had any desire to use any of the prior proliferated sets. This new one will have some that I've been hoping for.

EDIT: By the way, in the meeting where this feature was proposed I specifically mentioned that "Perfect Pain is going to love this change." Glad to see, at least on first glance, I was right!
