Quote:Good presentations tend to have as little text as possible-- the information is supposed to be conveyed by the speaker. If there is a lot of text on the screen, people read the screen instead of listening to the speaker, and they miss information. This presentation obviously doesn't do much for someone not present for the actual presentation.PowerPoint must really, really suck. Personally, I would have preferred pictures (that you could click for full size) laid out with short paragraphs in a straightforward fashion. Which also sounds like it may have been less work.
If you're looking for information instead of presentation eye candy, check this out instead. -
Thanks for posting this, Positron. We didn't get to San Diego until late Thursday night, so we missed the panel.
That's a really fun way to deliver a presentation, much better than PowerPoint. -
Quote:I can't believe we missed them. ;_;Cheeseburger eggrolls = 6 weight watcher points plus each. Yes, "each." (that's equal to most full fast-food hamburgers, minus the mayo)
Just FYI.

The Meet-and-Greet was awesome, thanks for having it, and it was good seeing you guys again!

We're just going to have to disagree on this. Everything you say makes sense if this was Savage Hulk, who is simple minded and acts almost entirely on emotion. This Hulk doesn't display that anywhere else in the book. I think that what you say is the exact intent of the writer, but I think the writer screwed up by including the scene because the reasoning is weak given Hulk's mental capacity and control in the rest of the comic, and even the page prior.
-
The Hulk we see in Planet Hulk doesn't act that simple-minded, is what I'm saying.
-
Quote:If you're arguing "uncontrollable berserker rage", he was calm enough to say "Got it, go high" immediately prior to the hit that broke Surfer's control disc. He was even specifically aiming for the disc. He knew the Surfer would be in control if he succeeded with that hit. And after the Surfer said "You broke the disk, I'm free, thank y--" he pummels the hell out of him.I think he was so worked up that it could have been anyone in there and he'd be punching them into a pulpy mush at that stage. Until an ally pulled him back gently.
I think it's a writing flaw. They wanted Hulk to be mad at him for the reasons Nericus stated above (hence the "You lousy punk, I thought you were different. But you're just like the rest of them" line at the start of the fight), but it doesn't make any sense. It would make sense for Savage Hulk-- all he'd know is that the Surfer was attacking him. But this Hulk knows what the disks do, to the point that he directly targeted it. -
Quote:I'll admit I don't know much about Silver Surfer and Hulk's friendship, but based on that comic, I saw no reason for Hulk to go so far overboard on him.Considering all the times Hulk has felt betrayed by friends in the past, not to mention it was so called friends that blasted him into space and he ends up on Sakaar I'd say he had good reason to vent his rage at this point.
Beating the hell out of the Surfer because Tony, Reed, Dr. Strange, and Black Bolt are jerks isn't justified. And the Surfer didn't say a word about it afterwards, and still called him friend. That made it seem even worse. -
Quote:Yeah, I know why they couldn't use the Surfer. I was just saying that I didn't like what Hulk did in that scene. You know how Hulk kept beating the hell out of Bill even after he defeated him and broke his control disc? He did that to the Surfer in the comic, too. I understand that the Hulk's power comes from boundless rage, but I really didn't like how he displayed restraint in other areas, but beat the ever loving hell out of a friend of his for no good reason. It didn't fit the rest of the story at all.I have the simple excuse that, whilst I know a fair amount of the Hulk in the comics, I never actually read the comic version of Planet Hulk. Which I will at some point. With relation to the Silver Surfer scene though, I do know that movie-wise he was bound to 20th century Fox so Marvel couldn't use him in the Planet Hulk film. Having already done 'Hulk Vs Thor', the similarly powerful Beta Ray Bill was the best stand in they could get.
-
Quote:I was disappointed in the movie. The comic was awesome. With the exception of the extra unnecessary pounding the Silver Surfer took, that's the Hulk I want to see in the live action movies. Too bad World War Hulk totally ruined the whole thing.A real 'turnaround is fair play' thing as they admit in interviews that the Ultimates Nick Fury look from the comics was based on Samuel L. Jackson.
To chip in on the best Hulk movie? Go animated. Planet Hulk is a storyline that puts both the live action movies to shame. -
Quote:I'd be fine with the scene as long as it doesn't refer to the Hulk as a psychopath. "Getting in touch with my inner monster" would be fine, as Hulk looks like a monster, and Banner does think of him as one. I just don't want him to be a monster in personality.Well the Nick Fury IS the Ultimates version at least...
Heck, the last Hulk flick was a half-step between 616 (Gamma overexposure on a person with the gamma mutant gene) and 1610 (super soldier development).
Anyhoo, I'm not asking for Hulk to go all LOEG-Mr. Hyde, **** and eat a few people, etc. Just observing one hell of an entrance.
Quote:The movies seem to be borrowing a lot from the Ultimate-verse plots, but keeping the 616 personalities. Which I approve of since just about everyone in the Ultimates was a total jerk or worse.
I'd have less issues with the comic if it had been a bunch of pastiches like Watchmen (though I still don't like non-consensual sex and cannibalism in my comics). -
Quote:God I hope they don't base Avengers Hulk on Ultimate Hulk. Ultimate Hulk is evil and disgusting, a cannibal would-be rapist. He represents everything I hate about Mark Millar's work. One of the best Banner-to-Hulk moments (and lines) was straight out of the Ultimates line. The one where Banner shows up in Washington during the invasion and drops the line about "Getting in touch with my inner psychopath." before getting stomped on and coming up grey and bulging with muscles.
Considering the last scene of The Incredible Hulk, I could easily see something similar in the Avengers movie.
I want a misunderstood, reluctant hero Hulk that scares the hell out of everyone because he's huge, angry, powerful, and looks like a monster (the Ang Lee Hulk was too smooth and even cute in the face), but just wants to be left alone, and keeps getting pulled back into saving people's lives because he doesn't want innocent people to get hurt. -
Quote:I'd rather there wasn't. Because just like with the Well, none of my characters would shove pieces of Hamidon in their bodies. But it (at the time) was the only way to advance further. I'd rather game mechanics not get tied into lore in that way.It was Positron. He was mainly teasing, I guess, but I've always wished that there WAS some kind of repercussion, if only as story arc material.
I certainly hope Ghost Widow doesn't start randomly showing up and hugging me just because I slotted her enhancement set. -
Quote:Long, long ago (like, 2004-2005, before Inventions and likely before CoV), when CoH was back at Cryptic, I recall a dev (I don't remember who) hinting at adding some kind of consequence to slotting lots of Hami-Os in some future development. The wording was something like, "do you think you can keep shoving pieces of Hamidon into your body without some kind of repercussions?" I'm glad they didn't (not that it would matter much now). However, that being the case, I really don't expect the Dev's to pull a 'bait and switch' with us, having Hami-O's count against us when dealing with the DE here or in Praetoria, or allowing the Well to do something terrible to us because we are gaining its power (well maybe as part of a short storyline, but nothing permanent). That would be a horrible thing to do to the playerbase, and an even worse business move. They're just a typical MMO ways of rewarding players that they tried to fit into the story.
Does anyone else remember that? -
For those who don't know, that's the costume that won the 2006 Official CoH Costume Contest. She just got the Rainbow Path Aura (and was so excited).
They took down the page that announced the winners of that contest (), but she was on the CoH launcher as an ad for the following year's contest, and I grabbed a screenshot of it:

Quote:You're making a false assumption about my reason for posting what you quoted. I've had downvotes and negative comments before. My frustration stems from something beyond just me and my own arcs, otherwise, why would I have found new motivation based on dev interest in the system? That doesn't affect me directly. You have to ask yourself why you decided to make this arc. Did you do it so everyone would love you or did you make it because you wanted to tell an interesting story?
I want people who like story focused arcs to be able to find and play story focused arcs. The current system is (unintentionally) designed to support farmers, and that comment I posted really drove the point home. The only reason I care at all what anyone's rating is, is that it very obviously affects how many people see the arc in question. After all, what is the point of telling an interesting story if nobody experiences it? I just want the system to be fixed so that it actually supports the content it's supposed to support. This, combined with the name filter and other factors, makes my motivation very low for working with or playing the MA.
And Eva, thanks for the advice. I'll take it into consideration. I'm leaning towards PMing Dr. Aeon about it instead, as I don't really think GM action taken against the person is useful. I don't care about one guy. I want the system to change so that farms and stories don't have to compete with each other for plays, and people can more easily find content they'd like to play. -
Quote:Damaged Computer and Remote Access Terminal should have their own teamup comic.By the way, have another /em headdesk moment: I finally fixed my broken arc. Turns out one of the problem objectives was a "Damaged computer." "Damage" is apparently copyrighted. I have said it before and will say it again: the swear filter can go suck on a rusty railroad spike.

I think this is, hands down, the best trial that has been offered. I also think that the final battle with Anti-Matter is the best AV fight in the entire game.
That being said, I hate the reliance on healers and regen and devaluation of other support/defensive sets in this trial, and I feel the final fight with Anti-Matter overly penalizes melee types. But I still love it overall because it feels like I'm fighting Dr. Doom due to the number of tools at his disposal. -
Hey guys, thanks for responding.
It's not really the downvotes that got me down on this. It was the comment. AE is not, according to the devs, supposed to be for farms, but... well, the comment speaks for itself. I was in this situation where I had to ask, in context with comments in the thread about downvoting farms where one guy said he went through and 1 starred all new arcs posted in this forum, is this griefing/harrassment? Should I report the person? Or is that just petty retaliation? Most people don't even give comments when they downvote, and this guy told me exactly why he downvoted it, so should I want him punished for that? Note that I didn't include his name when I mentioned the comment. I'm not sure what to do about it, so it just made me want to give up.
You both made the effort to give meaningful feedback, and so did other people, so it really wouldn't be fair to you or the others not to at least act on that feedback. Thank you for that. And thank you for your efforts to keep the community going with your reviews, contests, and videos, Bubbawheat. SupaFreak, that color guide is really helpful, thanks so much for posting it, it's a great guide (Edit: I feel dumb for not scrolling down, it's far more than a color guide, it's excellent). I'll be making adjustments based on it and your other feedback, since you took the time give it instead of just clicking a star value.
I'm sorry that I'm more easily frustrated than you both are when it comes to the MA. I had really high hopes for this system, and I feel like it's hampered by the design of the rating system, search tool, and other aspects. I hope that the F2P move will bring in enough money that they can afford to spread the resources around to make all their systems better.
And yes, I'll run one of yours, SupaFreak, thanks again. -
Quote:So that answers my question: it's $5 per arc, not $5 to unlock Sig Story Arcs for the account forever. To further illustrate - VIP get's 400 pts, 1 Character Transfer per month and sig story arcs included in their sub.
400 pts = $5.00
Transfer = $10.00
Sig Story Arcs = $5.00
$20.00 per month included as part of your monthly VIP sub.
We definitely feel there's plenty of value there, and there's plenty more benefits to talk about for VIP's. -
So for the Signature Stories, is that 400 per story, or 400 to access them all, forever on that account?
-
Nevermind. Not fixing it any further. Got 2 under 3 star votes since I made it playable again, one with the comment "Not a Farm, make it a farm".
-
With renewed attention from the dev team, I've gotten the motivation to fix this arc. For those who are curious, it was unplayable due to a computer terminal collection object named "Remote Access Station" because the name "Access" is copyrighted. I renamed it to "Remote Terminal Station" but didn't change anything in the contact dialogue. I personally think that the restriction should be limited to characters named just "Access" instead of any use of the word for any objective.
I also made a change based on feedback: several people said they hate 25-29 CoT due to the abundance of Spectrals (and I don't blame them). I've moved it to 30-35, which unfortunately means they will face Earth Thorn Casters, which some may feel are worse. This means I had to remove the Banished Pantheon in the first mission or have the arc jump from 25-29 to 30-35. I could have done 30-34, but I do have a level 35 minimum EB in it, and I wanted to remove the warning about "lower than design intent" content. Since the arc no longer contains Banished Pantheon, I also changed the first map so that you should encounter the two main objectives in order (something someone, I think either PW or WrongNumber, suggested).
I have some more changes I intend to make based on feedback: the third mission needs more justification prior to the decision to embark on it instead of just being justified after the fact, and I'm going to try to tone down the amount of colored text I used. I have a question for the community: when do you feel colored text should be used? I've been using it to identify important people, important objects, and to distinguish between dialogue, action narration, and warnings.
I'll update when I make these changes, but I'm off my lunch hour, so it will have to be later. Thanks to those who gave the feedback on this, and I'm sorry it took me so long to do much about it. I hope you'll understand; I didn't think your feedback was unimportant. -
Congrats EMpulse!

Happy birthday, Positron!
Quote:Hey, I think this calls for story time: what was it like to get your first job in the video game industry? What were the circumstances that led to that job and how did you feel about getting it? Looking back, what do you think are the most important things you learned from it?Thanks everyone. Today's the big Four Oh.
I started working in the video games industry when I was 20. Man, I have been making games for half my life.
You could always make it a blog post, it's been a while since you've updated.
