Quote:Also, any advice given on the forums regarding playstyle for either PvP or PvE should probably be taken with a grain of salt, whether it's from me or not. My playstyle may not appeal to other people and vice versa, and just because I say "this is what it is" doesn't make it undeniably true. Playstyle's evolve as time goes on, what we know as the "best way to play x AT" may be outdated in the future.
That doesn't mean it's worthless to share your views on the way you think something should be played, it just means that you should take what you can from it that you like and reformulate on your own what you don't.
I guess my challenge comes from being curious as to your history of playing a stalker in pvp. For example I play my stalkers about 50% of all the pvp time I put in. the rest is on a dark/em blaster, and have been regarded highly by many of the better old and current players for my stalker playing ability. ( I certainly won't make that claim on my blaster) I have also leveled more than 5 different stalkers with various primaries and secondaries and played most of them in either arena officials or heavy zone use. I certainly don't claim to have all the answers and I learn new stuff every day but I try to be careful to only post about things that I feel certain of or just troll in troll bait threads. With that being said you have stated multiple things that from my stand point make me think you haven't played the AT much outside of some limited zone experience. For example in another thread you stated you wouldn't completely proc out AS or Sharks.... to me that is just blasphemy, as you use both of those powers more than any other attack a stalker has. Then you post a build with 21% dmg increase and still tell him to go with the dmg alpha. Tier 4 dmg alpha offers a 45% dmg increase...why even direct bonuses towards dmg then with the effects of DR when a proc will net better results? Depending on your secondary and with the addition of incarnates the only thing you MUST do is max out your HP and recharge and have a stealth IO. Alpha for dmg and work on other stats seccondary such as range/regen/resists. Everything else is more play style related. Do you need any of what I just posted to be pvp relevant...no, but it will give you a better shot at getting a kill. Certain things have always been true about pvp in this game and should be taken as truisms IE: If your going to pvp on a blaster why would you not take Aim and Build Up? Same with maxing out your AS with 3 hami Acc/dmg and 3 procs...even if they only has a 20% proc rate that is still 1 out of 5 and will do more dmg on average than an AS with over a 61% dmg increase from Alpha and bonuses that just gets DRed into the ground .
TLDR: Be ready for people to take what you said literally when they are looking for advice. Its different to think you know how to play a class vs knowing your playing the class the best of its ability by all current standards. I would also like to mention that my opinion of playing the class the best is to maximize my k : d ratio and pvp drops. As you pointed out before, if your Rping or play in pvp for different reasons than that, ignore what I posted. -
Drop teleport and tp foe, pick up super jump and combat jumping. I would also drop flurry. Drop Fitness pool, you don't have to actually pick those powers anymore as you start the game with them now.
You want Hibernate and sharks, your Assassin Strike and Sharks should have 3 acc/dmg hami enhancements and last 3 should be dmg procs.
I dont have mids on my smart phone but looking this over it needs quite a bit of work. In the end be patient and don't be afraid to have a bunch of revisions. i will keep an eye on this thread. if someone else doesnt put in a decent build I will try to post something within the next 48 hours. -
Quote:I think your outlook on a stalker is a bit narrow minded and if you run off from anything right off the bat if it has 1605 hp or less your missing out on possible kills. While I agree its not smart to generally mess with hp capped scrappers you forget there are more than enough baddos in this game to pick off. Anything under 1605 hp is fair game. I mearly mentioned that chain combo because you said using combos of any kind = your doing it wrong. Since stalkers started in pvp they have needed to combo to get kills even when it was as simple as AS+ET. As far as Pyronic not being worth it, you said yourself stalkers are opportunistic so Pyronic is up when I actually have an opportunity to use it without 5 people jumping on me. If you play your stalker right you have a few diff ways to evade/hide...Hibernate, Phase, Barrier, Placate, Fly pack and Teleport. The pvp point system is a joke and there is no tally of kill to death ratio so if you die 3 times but get 6 kills then hey that is 6 chances at a rare pvp IO. If you wait and only get 2 kills and zero deaths, good job on a self accomplishment but who wouldn't want 4 more chances at a rare. I know this AT is in sad shape but there is no need to paint the AT as a strick kill stealer to be zone viable solo. Stalkers do have a small nitch but a good one and can still be very nasty to cope with in a zone for any player minus a few very well built tanks.
Also, relying on Judgement for kills is not the way to go imo. It won't be up for every attack chain unless you are only attacking every 90 seconds, which would be kind of a waste. Stalkers are best suited for teams where they are dishing out massive amounts of damage very quickly to solidify kills. Stalkers generally have a harder time soloing then most other damage dealing ATs, especially when you are fighting a zone full of incarnated Scrappers and Blasters that will just rebirth if you get them low solo and then proceed to kill you. The only real effective way to play a solo Stalker in zone is to just steal kills, more or less. -
Quote:Sorry but your wrong....If you're sitting around after ASing or getting some sort of attack chain off then you are doing it wrong.
AS,Shark Hold,Pyronic Judgement = 1605 hp or less dead
I would recomend having reactitve with dmg resist/fire dot and tier 4 dmg alpha also.
You won't always prevent a heal or phase but I get pleanty of kills with that attack chain and the animations are short enough that you can still evade. If your AS procs you don't even need the shark hold. -
I didn't realize overload fixed the issue. I guess I will have to look into this and possibly dust off my nrg/ea.
-
I am just curious but why is /EA the only way to roll? They still have a gaping psi hole don't they?
-
KM/WP will be fine for any zone pvp.
Scrapper>Tank for dps
Tank> Scrapper for Survivability
LoL Brute unless you like to fight club then Brute> both
I don't have a ton of time nor a build for you but I am more than willing to pm back and forth with you with what I do know when it comes to twitch mechanics in pvp well as general knowledge. Post below what your looking to spend on a build, that will make a big difference in what builds people post as builds run from 500 mill to over 10 bill easy. Also make sure you get all the Accolades(click me) that give you stat increases and extra powers such as Eye of The Magus and Geas of the Kind Ones . Those can easily make the difference in a win/lose or draw. -
Sounds like you guys had a run in with a SG from Guardian, what was their name.... Claw of the Dragon perhaps?

There are no pvp reps there is only Zuul!

I doubt any serious migrating PvP group/guild would ever return to this game in force. The Devs have already made it perfectly clear how they view the pvp community. Grass is greener elsewhere where pvpers are acknowledged as important community members and our concerns are actually addressed.

Quote:What are your global handles/recognizable names? @Goofy., @- Goofy, @-Goofy
What server do you primarily play on? Freedom
What server do you prmarily PvP on? Freedom
What toons do you have to offer for 8v8 PvP? Sonic/Pain Dom Corr, Psi/EM Blaster, Fire/Fire Dom, Ill/Emp Troller, Emp/Sonic Def, Dark/Poison Corr, Storm/Sonic Def, Fire/EM Blaster, Sonic/EM Blaster, Rad/EM Blaster, EM/WP Stalker, Widow, SS/Regen Brute, Rad/Kin Corr, Rad/Psi Defender, Dark/Cold Corr, Rad/Dark Defender
Which of these toons is on Freedom? All of them.
If any, what toons would you be willing to transfer to Freedom for a league? Any toon I have or can PL for the squad
What do you consider your primary/optimal role in a team setting? Blasting, Dom, Support (Pain Dom is my best toon, but I understand 8v8 it may not be the best.. I'd have to re-IO my Ill/Emp or Emp/Psi), used to be decent on stalker... but it's been a while
What do you consider your favorite role in a team setting? Blasting, Ranged (Dom) followed very closely by support
Would you be willing to make a new toon and level it to 50? Yes.
Would you be willing to respec into a new build for a league? Yes.
Briefly describe your experience in PvP. (If you were on other 8v8 teams list them here, any substantial experience here also) Years of zone, 1v1, 2v2, Test Villain League back in the day (Shakedown, Dark Revolution)
(OPTIONAL) (Only answer if you have a firm grasp of team rosters)
Name Captains you would prefer to play for, minimum of 3. If you pick 3 I can guarantee you a spot on one of the 3 you choose, if you don't then whoever drafts you will be final. Also when we get down to the last draftees, there might be instances where people have to be picked in order to keep teams even numbers, in this case the draft protection will not apply.
I honestly have been gone a few years and just came back about 6 months ago and have been working on toons/PVP IOing, etc. I feel I'm ready now and know a bunch of people still PVPing just don't talk to them a whole hell of a lot. Peril, Vinnie, Incursion, etc are some of the guys I used to PVP with on test/Champion years ago. Used to go by Neo and ran Dark Revolution, but figured it was time for a change when I came back. anyway, I'll be happy to PVP with anyone that will have me at the moment and work my way back into things
Welcome back Neo, good to see a familiar face from the old Villain ladder. -

Quote:Heya! I don't play pvp in mmos, I prefer pvp that takes skill instead, like in an fps game or fighting game. MMO pvp victory in a 1 on 1 situation is always based on how little of a life you have to build and spend on a character.
How about you show us all how good you really are and join the real mans pvp where there is no reset button or do over. Those players are the ones with serious skills. -
Quote:Silit was possessed by Psypunk. So far, I'm glad to say that we've lived up to our name, and then some.
Watching round 3 against shenanigans seems unreal - there is no video on youtube, past or present - there is no team any of us have ever played for - pre or post changes - that has ever matched that pace.
This team has come a long ******* way from the first week we were back, trading games with Exile. I honestly thought we'd be more like usedtobegood - we'd come back, never practice, squeak out sloppy wins and laugh about it. Never did I imagine we'd put this much energy into CoH again - Never did I think we'd actually practice, roll toons, be online - never did I foresee Vinnie actually writing match commentaries for more than two weeks consecutively, and certainly, never did I see us making the Earth/Fire vision into a reality.
We obviously have a three week hiatus until playoffs, due to CC's advance forfeit (I really wanted Gfunny and Bud to show us how the big dogs roll on Champion too).
I'll cut to the chase. Playoffs. We will be voting to keep the current system. This is a conclusion we, as a team, came to just before last Sunday's games against Shenanigans.
While many of us wouldn't mind seeing a best of 5 single elimination system, the longer match nights could put a strain on some of our schedules, and that's a feeling felt by other teams we've talked to concerning the matter.
We don't support attempts at a best of 3 single elimination system, mainly because of the arguments being brought forth in it's promotion, and because of the intentions of some of it's supporters.
A common dissent with the current system is:
"If the current system is kept we'd have to sweep WARE to have a chance at winning"
We don't see any issue with this, as we've swept every team we've fought thus far, and we plan to sweep every team in playoffs.
I realize that I may potentially catch flack for this vote, as this vote statistically benefits my team, and is only in favor of one imperfect system over yet another imperfect system. The people who should be catching flack are the ones who were adamantly opposed to a best of 3 elimination system until we took a fat dump on everyone and made a mockery out of this league.
If you are one of the select few who may attempt bring my integrity under fire over this, please remember that I disqualified a team over a typo in lineup submission once, and thus: I don't care. What benefits my team infinitely more than the vote I've cast is the roster that Vinnie posted.
We will continue to do what our name suggests - no matter the playoff system. And to any team that, at the end of this league, believes they deserved to beat us: we will play you whenever we are able, as long as we continue to play.
Good luck to everyone in playoffs, and with the remainder of their regular season matches. We look forward to practicing with you all in the meantime. -

You guys are arguing like it's going to get fixed if you can agree with each other. It won't.

Quote:Hi I am new to PvP is this something I should try or would I be too much of a noob?
If you are new to PvP I would recommend skimming over the forums and become good friends with a few people in this league. Unless your lvl 50 and have a capped hp toon that a team would find useful/well built, chances are you don't have good odds of being a starter. That does not mean that you won't be able to practice with anyone, just might take a bit of time depending on what build and AT you have. I would start by going to some of the teams official sites and inquire there. If you play your cards right you could be all set up for the next pvp league and be in good shape.
Things I would suggest focusing on:
*Arena pvp viable AT and build* <<<----make sure you have something viable!!!
All accolades that give any form of stat increase permanent or otherwise
Fully IOed toon with capped hp or very close as well as proper amount of knock back protection
Incarnates (only Alpha incarnate is allowed for this particular league)
Practicing locking on target in teams in RV.
These are a few things you can do by yourself in your spare time.
Good luck!
