Quote:Agreed, its very odd that considering all these things have been championed as "Blaster" changes, the devs chose to hide one of the best parts of it behind a requirement that benefits Defenders and Corruptors the most.I really don't like this part, because it doesn't affect sets/set combinations equally. It's FAR easier for some sets to get to 22% ToHit (permanently) than others. Time manipulation Defenders/Corruptors, for instance.
My Time/Fire defender will ALWAYS have "instacast" snipes (Which means I guess I should respec to pick up Blazing Bolt) because PBUd Farsight keeps him over +22% Tohit permanently.
Wouldn't it be possible to use the same tech as Hybrid so that picking up your Snipe grants you an auto power that serves no purpose other than to apply a specific status to you that would suppress in combat and then tie the different behaviors of the snipes to that status flag?
That way the change would apply equally to all sets with snipes.
I get that with BU and Aim there's not a lot of downtime for the quick-snipe, but why is it there at all? I'm simply not seeing how Blasters are at a power level that requires a check like this to balance. Would Blasters really be overpowered if this 22% tohit requirement was gone? Sure we'd all have a permanent awesome DPA, awesome range attack...so what?
Blasters are still giving up a LOT of survivability for their "damage all the time" playstyle, that's not changing with these i24 changes. Sure, they'll help with staying alive, but we still have the biggest lack of mez protection in the game. (No mez protection, no buffs/debuffs/controls to head them off) That's a huge deficit, getting a permanent quick-snipe is not overpowered in the face of that.
Now...make those new secondary powers grant some small mez protection and I can learn to accept this tohit check. -
Quote:I'm just asking for a way to make it so that Blasters can use this new Snipe like Stalkers use their new AS. Stalkers don't have to get new Power Pools or constantly chew inspirations to use the new AS mechanic.Because one is a melee attack and the other hits from long range.
the dev's differentiation between melee & range has been well covered in the various blaster threads over the past few weeks.
That's certainly one way to interpret this sizable buff.
Saw a great suggestion in the Blaster Forum, give all Blaster attacks the ability to build up +tohit alongside defiance's +dmg. Love that idea personally, would alleviate a lot of my concerns.
The buff is the good part, the things that come with it are the punitive part. I thought the devs had moved past the idea of "all good things must come with a downside" that the original game had so much of, this strikes me as a return to that form.
I'm just trying to bring attention to this rather sizeable, in my opinion, downside to this buff. No punching the gift horse or face slapping, just curious why it seems that yet again Blasters are getting the short end of the buff stick. Still a buff, but the short end. -
Quote:Great to hear this and I love the idea that Regen won't help a Blaster against burst damage, but it will help him stay Blasting in a fight longer. I wasn't so sure about the +Regen before but I'm excited to try it now.Well the thing is Blasters shouldn't be able to take large amounts of burst damage. Adding Regen does seem like a sensible change to me, it allows Blasters to stay in the fight longer and avoids the annoying downtime between fights.
As for the amount I think it will make a noticeable difference based on my experience with Destiny. My AR/Dev Blaster has the Rebirth Radial Epiphany Destiny which provides 200%-600% regeneration while it is up (ignoring the first 10 seconds which have 1000%). Using this while playing I have noticed a strong impact from the Regeneration even towards the end of the 2 minutes when I'm only getting 200%. It doesn't stop me from dying if I take a lot of hits at once but it does but it does mean I quickly recover from those hits that I do take.
In theory this change should have a similar effect. The base level appears to be about 240% which then gets to about 350% enhanced. Given that and my experiences with Destiny I am expecting it to have a noticeable impact although I guess we won't know for sure until Beta. -
Quote:Aside from teams with Leadership, how is +22% to-hit easily attainable? I'm talking about solo and small, PuG team play that makes up most of mine, and I'm sure many other's players time.A +22% to-hit buff is not out of line, as it is easily attainable.
Once again, things are being very overstated on these forums. As pretty much the entire blaster 'fix' was in the first place.
I'm genuinely curious and hope to find out what you say is the case and it is easily attainable, that will make a lot of my complaints about these changes go away. -
Quote:No, a flat out buff would be to give us the same style buff they gave to Stalkers.Thank you for posting that a flat out buff is punitive. People joke about how players are never satisfied and will complain about anything, but having such a clear case of whining about a buff is refreshing.
I look forward to hearing how get the tier 3 range extended from 40' to 80' is really a slap in the face to blasters.
This is punitive as it will require many of us to respec to take even close to full advantage of it. It will require Tactics and the use of Inspirations to use at all times, why is it fair to say this was needed for Blasters?
So yes, the buff is good, gating it so that we are required to respec into new Power Pools and liberally use inspirations is the punitive part.
I never began to imply the range buff was punitive, putting words in my mouth doesn't change the fact that the cost of the new Snipe is silly,
Rather than discuss this with me you call me a complainer, imply I'm against buffs that I outright support and have lobbied for and change my phrase "punitive" to slap in the face. Maybe I should go make 10 new threads about this, wow. -
I discussed this a bit more in the Blaster forum thread, but the Snipe change should not require the +tohit in my opinion.
Why did Stalkers simply get an awesome new AS that alternates between slow and fast attack while Blaster's similar new mechanic is gated behind +tohit? This requirement, which will have many blaster slotting for +tohit, taking multiple new powers just to use the new Snipes, seems more punitive in the end.
Stalkers - Here's a great new AS, enjoy!
Blasters -Here's a great new Snipe, except you'll have to get some +tohit to use it! Better respec into Leadership and buy a Kismet! -
My main since I started playing in '05 is Lightslinger, an Energy/Energy Blaster.
I'm definitely thankful for the buffs, but I am concerned the devs will stop here and I'm fairly certain these adjustments alone will not bring Lightslinger in line with other ATs.
The range increase for tier 3s is huge and I will be highly appreciative of that, good move.
The snipe change is exactly what I wanted, but why require the +tohit? It seems odd that Stalkers simply got an AS that worked different in combat, why require Blasters to take additional powers, slot a Kismet, and use other powers in order to use the new Snipe? Seems like a great change, but the punitive measures that are taken in order for it to work weigh it down. If the devs intended this new attack to only be useable some of the time; why?
The secondary power changes for survivability I'm not sure about. I'll definitely test them as best I can as soon as possible, but I'm not seeing how this will increase Lightslinger's survival that much. Blasters are such a low HP AT we will not see the most benefit possible from Regen.
Overall I see these changes as benefiting other ATs MUCH more than they'll benefit Blasters. These changes will pull Blasters even further behind other ranged archetypes.
If this is Phase 1 of Blaster buffs, I'm very, very excited by these changes and look forward to what's coming next. Lets get some real Blaster focused buffs.
Unfortunately I've seen this dev team drop a lot of projects over the years and I fear Blasters may be the next project to go to the backburner, prove me wrong. -
Quote:They were all showing up for me in the costume creator before I purchased the bundle.Am I blind, or is there no way to see the individual pieces before purchasing them?
'Cause I'm not purchasing if I can't preview. 400 is a lot of points to wind up with something you don't like.
Gotta say this is one of my favorite packs yet, lots and lots of pieces and styles here. I'd say it was probably worth more than a regular costume pack, but I don't want to give them any ideas for future packs -
Bought it about an hour ago, it was under Costume Bundles.

Quote:This fixed it, thanks for the help everyone.I have had that bug as well, except that it was another image (a player avatar).
It seems that Safari sometimes confuses images in its cache, so all occurences of a forum element can be replaced with another (larger) image.
The only way to restore the original looks that I found was to reset the browser cache. Once the history was cleared, the browser had to re-load all the images and everything was fine.

Viewing on my iPad 2 there are giant CoH logos before every post in every forum, anyone else having this issue?

If a JL movie is just now put in the works it will likely be a couple of years out. Considering Dark Knight Rises is the last for Nolan & Bale I agree with the idea that they could do opposite what Marvel did and launch standalone movies from this.
Hint towards JL in the new Superman, use Cavill for Superman in JL, Reynolds for GL, cast a new Batman, then fill in WW, Flash and so on. This will work only if the movie's good. WB needs to wise up and realize that Marvel's done so well because they've made good movies, not by some luck or riding the wave of a fad.
Avengers had the right cast, right director and right marketing. WB has to get all that right for a JL movie to work.
If JL works this could *finally* put the DC Universe where it should be in movies. It always amazed me that Marvel had to fight to make their movies, slowing buying back film rights then building their own freaking movie studio. Whereas ALL of DC Comics is owned completely by a single established studio. Why the hell can't WB make some decent DC non-Batman movies?
A good JL movie could solidify the new Superman (assuming Man of Steel is decent), maybe give Green Lantern another shot at a franchise and launch Wonder Woman and Flash franchises. This could be worth billions to WB, better get it right. -
Wasn't Superman a Blue Lantern briefly in the comics? If I drew something like this I probably would've picked him for a Blue Lantern as well.

I've only read a little about the Iron Patriot from wiki and Marvel's website, none of which mention a connection to Captain America other than the armor looks similar to his suit. For some reason I thought it was worn by IM in honor of Cap after he died, guess I dreamed that.
Is that really where the connection ends? I think if everyone sees this in trailers they're going to assume the suit is closely related to Cap, only to find out its some obscure Marvel villain named "Coldblood 7", that's disappointing.
Also, Kevin Feige said the upcoming solo movies will be very much that, solo. Don't expect a lot of cross-overs until the next Avengers which I'm sure the solo movies will be working towards. Best we can hope for is some cameos but I'm betting that's it. -

Yeah, this is really weird. I was just playing the game last night so I know my install itself wasn't messed up, no clue. I'll just be glad I patched early, should be done downloading in a couple of hours, when I expected the servers up anyway.
@Zombie, can I cancel download and restart or am I stuck downloading now that I started it? Edit- Tried restarting, but the download is picking up where it left off, thanks for help anyway. -
So...finished downloading the patch earlier, got a bad file error now its started a 3.1 gig download?! What the hell is going on?
Stopped the download and tried again, the error is "Can't create a file when that file already exists.", it says I'll have to repair, the repair ran and started the download again, since I'd already downloaded some I guess its lower this time, still 2.5 gigs. Is this happening to anyone else? -
I like to see the world change over time, so I'd love to see NPCs shifting around and things in general progressing. Also BaBs is a much better character and deserves to finally get some time in the spotlight.
-
Posting in general seems way down, also I'll echo that the overall focus has changed. Before when you hit 50 perfecting your build was pretty much the end-game. Now that there's a huge raid mechanic in place the game's focus has shifted to league-play.
Maybe its just me and I need to take a break, but the past few months have felt more and more quiet around the forums and game in general. Personally I'm hoping Paragon Studios have a really awesome rabbit to pull out of their hat soon regarding the other MMO they're working on. -
I love the concept and graphics of Energy Melee, my first character, main and forum namesake is an Energy/Energy blaster. I'd love an Energy Melee Brute or maybe someday an EM Scrapper, but until its fixed I'll definitely never devote another character to it.
Just like PrincessDarkstar said, the numbers aren't off, its the feel of the set. I can deal with the fact EM should be a single target specialist, its the fact that its two big ST attacks are so slow and unruly now. "Disjointed and slow" indeed, that should be on the official description for Energy Melee now! -
Can't echo Chad enough, I've always hated that Statesman was the face of the game, he just screams "this is as generic a hero game as you can get!". I thought the "main hero" looked so silly on the CoH box I almost didn't buy it, luckily I did and the game is awesome.
I love that the new dev team is so dedicated to making our characters feel epic and powerful, whereas the Emmert-era made sure to keep all players in their lackey spots as his fanfic character got all the limelight. -

Quote:Thanks and yeah, this is exactly what I'm going for, Brute's inherent toughness + mini-gauntlet will help my goals much more than the extra Scrapper damage would.I don't recall whether Shield or Inv has the stronger taunt aura (Mids says both are 17 seconds), but they're both quite strong.
The damage you'd lose compared to a Scrapper will be substantial, while the survivability you'll gain will be pretty minimal. However, a Scrapper has a much harder time tanking for a team, so if that's what you want to do and Tankers are off the table, go Brute. -
Quote:I thought Shield and Ice had the strongest taunt auras?Don't expect your shield brute to show up any inv characters. The taunt aura in inv is solid where the one in sheild is... not.
Even if so that's ok, my main complaint was that a brute was managing to steal aggro from my tank, which was pretty much all I was good for. Actual tanking felt great, until I realized I could tank for 99% of the game with a Brute AND have great damage.
