  3. It's not a costume contest - those take way too long to judge and people come in to Pocket D all the time.

What we do is give out titles to people who have good costumes (and well, some not so good ones too). These are temporary titles that last for a few days (real time) then go poof. For each of the events we have done, they have been titles appropriate for the event. In this case for our Freaky Friday the 13th, we were giving out things like "TGIF the 13th" or "The Curse" or "Freakster" and even "Bad to the Bone".

    Mostly a big nerd party

Just wanted an official word regarding the length of our submissions.

Atleast 8 pages or 4-8 pages? Thanksalot.

Farmer_Frost, where was the URL of that post you reference. The information on our rules pages is correct for the contest. I couldn't find what you refer to above.
  5. The link we have for the specific Comic Book Creator version (that has logos in the pack) can be had at http://coblitz.codeen.org:3125/d2.pl...rd_1215_en.exe

Question, can we include our own artwork on top of screenshot backgrounds or draw directly on top of the screenshot? Something like this... LJs

    [/ QUOTE ]

As long as you fit the rules, you should be good!

    [ QUOTE ]
All submissions must be recognizable as consisting of screen shots from City of Heroes or City of Villains. Editing or moderation such as applying filters or other artistic adjustments are fine, as long as the content remains recognizable as consisting of screenshots from the games.

I'm still confused. What is Curse-Gaming.com's official relationship to Cryptic and NCSoft. What part of this is supposed to draw my attention, as a casual community person, to your website. Why? To put it bluntly...anyone can see that you have a unique forum title, Nimloth...but you're not a redname. I'm not upset, I'm just confused. Cheers!

    [/ QUOTE ]

The City of Heroes Community and PR teams maintain a number of relationships with fan, community and gaming web sites. Sure, there are things we can do on our own sites, but it is part of our philosophy to support fan initiatives as we can. The bottom line is that we won't always be in a position to do everything we want (after all, who is)? By leveraging the capabilities of other interested parties and sites we endeavor to build and maintain our community.

This relationship with Curse-Gaming is one example. If you are not interested in taking part; no worries. If you are aware of interesting things happening in the community then by all means, please let us know so we can do what we can to support it.
  10. Ok, I know I sparked a bit of controversy in my recent plug of Curse-Gaming.com as a destination to host your fan art.

Without going into all the "why" and "wherefore" behind that, I did want to start another thread to ask for your feedback on the Curse site. They would be interested to hear what you have to say. If you were to use Curse as an image gallery, what kind of functionality would you like to see?

Try to keep feedback to pointed lists or detailed, but brief, descriptions. They plan to look at this thread, take the best and put in their "to do" tracker for their web devs. So, here's your chance to help shape their offerings!
  11. We’ve been talking more with the folks over at Curse-Gaming.com and the features that their game portal has. You’ve probably seen the recent article on the coming Hamidon revamp included in Issue 9. Besides covering a bunch of games, hosting a ton of game downloads and providing user community tools they also allow very easy to use uploading of images. Once uploaded images can be rated by other users and comments left. You can read more about Curse-Gaming here or get involved by setting up a free account here.

Ok, so why you may ask, am I plugging them? Well it has nothing to do with the fact that I think they are a swell bunch of guys. Rather, we can see that the services they offer are pretty nice as a platform for showing off your artwork. While I’d love for us to be offering similar services here on the City of Heroes and Villains websites, the legal issues surrounding it make it prohibitive. So, our thinking goes, why not work with an affiliate site like Curse and spread the word of functionality they have to offer.

So, check them out and let me know what you think!

To be honest, this isn't an official site so the reviewer are probably under some misconception about Hamidon.

City of Heroes / City of Villains: Redesigning the “Hamidon”
    By Christopher Bruce, Cryptic Developer

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I actually found it a little annoying that one of the Devs knows so little about the game (even if he were trying to use "elder god" in a figurative sense) that he referred to defeating Hammi as sending it (him) back to the dimension from which he came.

Duh, read through a story arc of the game you code for once in a while.

It just looks bad to me. Cryptic's own developers (at least this one) know very little about the background of something that they are writing an article on... one that said dev knows full well is going to get published online and read by actual players.

I mean, come on, spend the 1-2 minutes it'll take to skim through the text of the arc and find the part about Hamidon being a scientist who mutated himself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What if it wasn't a matter of "just" a mutation? What if when he mutated himself, what actually happened was that it opened a gate to the Elder God Hamidon who then uses his body as a way into our world? What if this Elder God consumed the scientist's body in such a way so as to not require the scientist's actual body to reform here, which would explain the lack of such a body each time the Hamidon is defeated, or assuming this, repulsed from this dimension?

It's possible there is more to this than we currently know.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I like the theory, but the fact that the scientist's name was Hamidon Pasalima before his transformation is a bit problimatic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We fixed the issue with the article's backstory to match the game's lore.
  13. Curse Gaming and the City of Heroes / Villains Team presents an exclusive look one of the Issue 9 features: Redesigning the Old God - Hamidon. Written by Christopher Bruce, member of the Cryptic Development Team, the article presents the process, challenges and changes that went into this new feature. Enjoy!

NOTE: The original story contained some incorrect backstory elements. It has been updated to correctly match the game's lore. Sorry for that!

Please see the receptionist on the way out for your lolly pop and to schedule your next appointment.

  16. Arctic Sun: "Hey, Lighthouse! Come over here and stand still, will ya?"

    Lighthouse: "Sure Arctic, what's up?"

< Arctic Sun motions and a trio of the Knives of Artemis show up, and start plugging Lighthouse full of holes. Arctic captures it all on film. >

    Lighthouse "uggg!"

    Arctic Sun: "Thanks man!"

Oh, the joys of being a target dummy!
  17. This issue is resolved and all servers are available for play!
  18. Justice and Guardian are not currently available to log into. We are working to correct the issue and anticipate they will be back available shortly. Thank you for your patience while we resolve the problem.
  19. We will be performing maintenance on the City of Heroes message forums starting on the morning of Wednesday, March 21st. At this time we will be pruning off old posts based on criteria set for each different forum on the overall board. For example, no posts are ever deleted out of the Player Guide section while posts over 2 weeks old are deleted out of the General Discussion forums.

This is necessary to keep our forums fit, trim and running smoothly. The forums will be offline during maintenance.
  20. GameDaily has their take on the high points of the next free expansion for City of Heroes and City of Villains: Issue 9 - Breakthrough!

If anything, I enjoyed the tagline to the piece:

Wash the spandex, iron the cape and dust off your thinking caps, 'cuz super heroes and villains are about to become inventors.

Take a look for yourself here.
  21. Bumping this back up on the Announcements. We have been seeing more and more Avatars that are inappropriate. Thanks in advance for keeping things within bounds.
  22. The call for feedback was more of a "hey lets collect this and pass it on to the dev team" thing than a "lets get something for a PR story together"

So, to answer your questions, you can write me whenever you like with your input in whatever format you like Nice formats are more likely to receive replies, though.
  23. If you haven't seen some of the news on gaming sites about Issue 9, here's your chance to take it all in again!

At this year's Game Developer Conference we had quite a line up of gaming news web sites and publications to show the latest and greatest in Issue 9. You can read about previous articles here and here. Also, some other sites to get into the fray include:

    Games Radar

    FiringSquad

    and Warcry's Razorwire
  24. The next installment of the City of Heroes / City of Villains Ask a Dev series is now available on the CoH Warcry web site. In this article, you can read Jack "Statesman" Emmert's answers to a variety of questions posed from the second Ask a Dev article. You can also read the introduction to Serdar Copur, who makes his presence known on the servers as Lord Recluse and pose your questions to him for the coming fourth article.
  25. The ninth free update to City of Heroes, Issue 9: Breakthrough, contains some sweeping changes to the CoH universe. Positron (Lead Designer Matt Miller) discusses them with GameSpot. Positron talks more about the upcoming invention system and the consignment houses.
