Original article says "...they are not as rare as the new Very Rare Enhancements put into Issue 11...," but that's not my experience. Over the course of a couple of weeks of closed beta, I got 3 purple recipes, and no respec recipes. Bug?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't believe the respec recipe was implemented and dropping for most of closed beta. -

I remember this time last year fondly. I was starting a new job at NCsoft, getting re-acquainted with the Bay Area and also getting the opportunity to interact with you all, the players of City of Heroes. Looking back over the last 12 months, the game has gone through a ton of great changes. Weve had three great Issues and are on the cusp of our 4th, Issue 11: A Stitch In Time.
As I look ahead for the next year, knowing what I have the privilege to know, I cant be more excited for the future of City of Heroes and City of Villains. The Development Team has many great plans and ideas to implement and Im very proud to be part that endeavor!
One thing Ive wanted to do since the very beginning, but havent, has been to get better acquainted with the movers and shakers of the CoH community. Oh, sure, in the course of my day to day, I have interacted with some of you. However, I havent really opened up communication to everyone who plays a larger role in the CoH Community. The major Supergroup leaders, popular chat channel moderators, the Hamidon raid organizers, fan web site operators, player event organizers and those who log in everyday and contribute to the City of Heroes and City of Villains Community in major ways.
While I cant interact one on one with everyone who plays the game, I do want to hear from the above people. If you feel you fit into any of those categories, and even if you think "well, ok maybe," do me a favor and follow this link and send me a Private Message with a quick introduction. Im looking forward to hear from you!
In closing, I hope everyone is having a great Halloween! Also, know that you have my thanks for making me enjoy coming to work over the last year!

Well considering i've recieved no reply since my original note on the 26 i really dont know what to assume.
I am still waiting to find out if me and my wife can enter the contest as a Duo. I would like to know before the deadline, if its allowed we'll enter. If its not I can still enter on my own and she can have a different entry.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi Gypsy,
Sorry, I replied to your PM, but thought I'd put the answer here for anyone else with the same question.
The rules stipulate one entry per account. So, you would each need to enter on your own, but if you want to put in screenshots and real life pictures of you as a duo, along with a note about, we'd love to see it! While you won't be judged as a duo, it would sure be fun
Best regards,

I have to admit for Willpower what I'd like to see is a video of somebody just standing there for a 10 or 20 second period with all the effects going. Whenever they showed shots of the powerset it seemed like they were activating it or it was pulsing. I want to see what the long term look of it is. Not very dramatic I'll admit, but it would be more informative to me.
Other then that, it looked like a great video.
[/ QUOTE ]
Willpower is still work in progress in the closed beta, as they are adjusting the graphics still to dial them in to "looks good, not too omg turn it off! or otherwise annoying"
I think it's coming along great and I'm really enjoying playing my Dual Blade / Willpower character in Beta. We're really looking forward to opening up the beta to everyone soon, and then taking Issue 11 live not long after that! -

Lighthouse,
Just received a MOTD popup about the Halloween event. I don't know if this is the one you referenced in your opening post or not, I logged in yesterday but received nothing. This one updated (and therefore popped up) around 3:20pm EST.
The content was informative, but I couldn't read all of it. At 1280x1024 resolution, running in windowed mode, the MOTD box was literally too big to fit on the screen, which rendered the scroll bar kind of useless, as I couldn't see the top and bottom of the message box to scroll to.
Just a heads up so if there's some way to avoid that in the future, you guys can.
Thanks
[/ QUOTE ]
Hi Wilykat,
It looks like that version of the MOTD has some formatting issues at different screen resolutions.
We'll have a better performing version up shortly. -
Hi everyone,
The previous thread "Say something nice about the person above you" drifted a little off the road into, well a few ditches and maybe a gutter.
So, let's start the thread anew and please, keep it clean and friendly (remember, say something nice!).
Thanks! -
Hi everyone,
We'd really appreciate hearing from you about your trick or treating experience!
Right now, we are working on optimizing server configurations to help alleviate the lag you may have experienced running around opening doors and getting some goodies!
Also, we will be putting up a MOTD soon that lists which zones you can Trick or Treat in at what levels. Rule of thumb is that you can only trick or treat in zones where there are monsters you can fight and get experience from.
Let us know how you found the Halloween Event and Trick or Treating! -
This years in-game Halloween event runs between October 22nd and November 4th!
Both Heroes and Villains can Trick-or-Treat within their respective cities. As before, players go around knocking on doors to receive a "Trick" (an attacking mob) or a "Treat" (an inspiration, salvage or costume). This year players might also receive a temporary power that turns them into one of the many popular non-player characters in the game!

Alright, I've got a question.
It says the winners get a "special reward title for one character character". Is the title for any character of their choice, or only the character they chose to dress up as? Furthermore, will the winner get to decide their title, or will it be a generic "2007 Halloween Costume Contest Winner" or some such?
Just a little confused by the wording of the rules, as the rewards section doesn't specify, the Entry section 1.) just says to submit a picture of your in-game character (not mentioning if it has to be the same costume you're dressed as), and the Entry section 2.) says to submit a picture of your entered character.
Hope you can clear this up for me Lighthouse.
[/ QUOTE ]
The titles are the yellow in game, over your head ones that only a GM can give out.
Titles we give out for winning contests are generally either the above mentioned generic sort or a more roleplay one, like "SuperHero!" or somesuch. While we will discuss it with the winner, we won't take freeform things such as "I be rockin tha baddies!" or somesuch.
Hope that helps to answer your question! -
Well, the rules say "the contestant" so, that's probably going to be an issue.

ComicsOnline.com is hosting a Halloween masquerade party in New York City called the Nexus Crisis and hopes Heroes and Villains will be represented at the event. The two "masterminds" behind the scenes of this event are long time players of City of Heroes Terrence St. John and Kevin Gaussoin. Both Kevin and Terrence are players on Champion Server better known there as Tanker Titan TL and Controller Trance of Earth.
NC Soft is donating Good Vs. Evil Editions of the game to be awarded for costume prizes and is ensuring each attendee gets a 14 Day Trial code, to use themselves or to give to a friend who can join the fight against Lord Recluse or Statesman depending on their ethical leanings. Every good hero could use a good sidekick and every villain can find a use for a decent lackey.
So if you're in the New York area or willing to travel to the event, keep in mind it is being held at a nightclub in a restricted zone which requires all heroes and villains to have leveled to age 21 before they can come join the party. It might not be Pocket D but it's the next best thing. Information about the party can be found at:

Discounted Tickets can be purchased here:

City of Heroes and City of Villains players and fans are getting excited for the coming free expansion, Issue 11: A Stitch In Time! Besides rampant speculation and discussion on the Official City of Heroes message forums, we also have a recent fan video and fan comic teaser to report.
First, we have a fan made teaser video for Issue 11, made by Samuraiko whos done several other great City of Heroes fan videos. Take a look on YouTube.
Next up we have a teaser comic from ChaseArcanum. Take a look at it here. If you like ChaseArcanums work, you should take a look at his Comic Guide to Issue 10 and his winning submission to the recent Comic Book Creator Contest.
Issue 11 is still in closed beta testing, but should be in open beta soon, where everyone who wants to preview it will be able to! Keep your eye here on the City of Heroes website for all the details as they occur!

I noticed under prizes that the the grandprize winner, and the 3 catagory winners each recieve a GvE edition of City of Heroes... Now what if they already have both city of heroes and villains? And when you need the game to enter the contest, it seems kind of redundant to have a prize be the game itself... Now I know some still only play heroes, or only villains, but it seems the majority have purchased the GvE upgrade, and all the new players can only purchase the GvE pack in stores now... So, why is the game a part of the prize?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because every good Hero needs a sidekick.
Any Villain worth their salt can make use of a lackey.
If you already have the GvE goodies, it's for a friend! Besides, we just like to give the game away -
So, we've already had several entries to the contest, but clearly people aren't reading the rules, or understanding the contest. This is not just a contest of your in game character, but of you dressed up like your character out in public in that costume!
From the rules, you need to submit:
[ QUOTE ]
Two pictures are required:
* One full frontal screenshot of contestants in-game hero/villain.
* One full frontal body shot (digital photo) of contestant, out in public, dressed as their hero or villain.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, get to work on those costumes! -
Ahh, here's a longer list from the earlier play test. I can't sneak into Positron's Lab and get the full list, so this will have to suffice for now:
[ QUOTE ]
Paragon Protector
Council Galaxy
Troll Ogre
Outcast Thug
Freakshow Boss
Nemesis Soldier
Crey Security
Malta Operative
Matla Gunslinger
Legacy Chain
Consortium Guard
Coralax
Carnie Harlequin
Carnie Strongman
Goldbricker
Knife of Artimes
Sky Raider
PPD Hardsuit
PPD cop

Council Penumbra
Skull Thug
Freakshow Stunner
Crey Agent
Banished Pantheon Shaman
Lost
Warriors Thug
Tsoo Inkman
Hellion Thug
Crey Powersuit
Pirate
Iron Warrior ? Not sure what this one is
[/ QUOTE ]
Please keep in mind that this is a player compiled list from testing and not final. -
[ QUOTE ]
Sounds very fun! i hope they have the Costume Salvage reappear too! It be good to earn it rather than buy for some of my alts!
[/ QUOTE ]
I know some lists came together from the testing of the Halloween Event on the Training Room, but my search fu is weak at the moment and all I'm finding is:
[ QUOTE ]
Knives of Artemis
Pirate

Crey Power Suit
Paragon Protector
Lost
Council Galaxy
Skulls Thug
Nemesis Soldier
Pantheon Shaman
Council Penumbra
Carnival Harlequin
