Honestly, I won't make much, if any, use of it, except to see how it looks on a few characters.
However, I am going to assume that you were not here when they introduced Veteran Rewards. When they released the Veterans Rewards video, and it showed the characters walking down the street, you would not believe the outrage when the Devs told us that we would not be getting the ability to walk.
And the feature was oft requested before then, but, prior to that, we had never seen what were apparently player models walking.
Don't like it, don't use it. I know I won't. But I don't begrudge the fact that lots of players who wanted the feature finally got it. Some people don't care for Architect, or Power Customization, or Holiday Events. How would you feel if your own pet favorite feature got canned or rolled back because a bunch of Debbie Downers claimed that it was the "worst waste of Dev resources for the game, ever."
If you think the Devs are wasting too much of your time or money with "wastes of time" like the walk power, exercise your own power to walk away. Send them a polite e-mail about why you are dissatisfied, followed by a polite snail mail, and then unsub until they change their ways.
On the other hand, if you can accept that you won't like everything that everyone else seems to, and are willing to wait for the features you do want, nothing is preventing you from sending a polite e-mail to the Devs detailing some of the things you would like to see.
If you do decide to leave, don't tell us (well, don't bother telling me, I don't care beyond the lost subscription revenue), but definitely tell the Devs, and do it politely (Ragequits rarely see the desired results, and are easily dismissed as irrational). -
Quote:I also tallked with Brian Clayton who gave me the same answer: There will likely be an Issue 17 before Going Rogue (which isn't due to come out until April-May-June). Some of the stuff (like Ultra Mode) may be ready to toss into Issue 17 and will be if it is.Quote:You're saying what seems to be the opposite of what Lightfoot reported.
Lightfoot said Brian said there is no definite plan for an Issue 17 and there will only be an Issue 17 *if* they can scrape up some non-GR stuff ready-to-go before GR hits.
You're saying Brian said there is a likely plan for Issue 17.
I guess the two reports can be reconciled if they would like to do an Issue 17 and have some stuff they know they can put into it and hope to have more to make it a full issue but that's not a sure thing at this point.
It is possible that PuceNonagon talked to Brian later in the day after he had had a chance to mull over my earlier question or talk it over with the rest of the Devs.
That being said, I think time will be a little too tight for there to be a full issue. If we get 16.5, it will need to be in the Training Room by early / mid November so as not to interfere with the Going Rogue testing. -
Quote:*cough*How can allowing all toggle powers to be "autoable" be used as an exploit?
Hasten and Practiced Brawler aren't "toggle powers."
You can have as many toggle powers running as you like.
Hasten and Practiced Brawler are "click" powers, just like every attack in the game. -
Quote:You've been playing since June 2004, and this is just now becoming an issue for you?Wow. My disappointment is steller. I'm surprised that no one else has had a problem with this. I think I'm about to have a btch fit. And I'm a guy, so thats pretty bad.
You, apparently, didn't have a problem with this for 5 years. Why would you pitch a fit now?
And no, I don't have a problem with it. I much prefer the tactical use of my powers, thank you very much. Autoing anything before you have the ability to perma it will lead to situations where you don't have the power available when you really need it. (unless that be Auto-Brawl for fury building, especially now that Brawl cost no End.) -
It is to prevent "botting." In order to play the game, you should be sitting in front of your computer. The Devs figured that allowing too many powers to be set on auto would allow people to "play the game" while they were actually doing something else, like sleeping. They decided on what would be a fair number of powers to auto, and let us have that.
Decide which power is more important (Practiced Brawler, in my opinion. Hasten is overrated), and pay attention to when the other one is recharged. -

Quote:It doesn't make us mad because it doesn't happen to us.I solo when I want to solo, and I have relatively little trouble finding a team when I want to team, even on the low pop servers. If it happens to be a slow day, I still consider a duo to be a team, and will do missions while I am hunting for more players. I'll just send out more tells while the rest of the team is resting, leveling or selling between missions. You guys mean to tell me,and this applies to those who simply love to play the game hard as well, that whenever you want to team, and people say "No" over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again..that that dosent make you mad?
Quote:If Rewards arent the answer, what is,or could be?
Quote:Come on players, you wrecked AE and all those teams that I just loved joining and playing, and making progress in-game on,especially on red side. You wrecked AE because we wanted to make the game harder for players to find teammates and gain levels, while you all laughed and danced in joy.You left other players no choice but to use AE when you just sat on our butts at Pocket D,and meaninglessly roleplayed. What the heck did you guys care anyway?!?!You all were too busy holding Pocket D down.
Quote:Now,I am presenting to you all something else to destroy:The players ability(including me) to be unable to say no to teams, whether it be trying to get a coveted reward we all want,or something else entirely.
According to you, our ability to say yes to teams has already been destroyed (which has been proven to be untrue). Again, there are ample rewards for teaming, but there are also rewards for soloing. This is how it should be. I team when I want to level. I solo when I want to get involved in the character and story. I team when I want influence and XP. I solo when I want Salvage and Recipes.
Quote:I cannot explain it any better than this way.If you all do not know what I am talking about, dont worry..this will happen to you all in time, and then you will know what I am talking about, but how could you not know what I speak of?
Quote:Let us destroy the need to not want to team.Let us put some meat on a stick to motivate those statues with something who just come on-line to take up space.Who's with me?!

Quote:Nope.Does it matter what server the arc was created on? Meaning if I create one on Liberty can someone on Freedom play it or is it only available to Liberty players?
The Mission Architect is cross server, like the market. If you create an arc with a Liberty hero, a Pinnacle villain can play it, no problems. -
Quote:This was one of the front page news items in September. You can probably still find it.It's kinda sad that there aren't any news updates regaring CoX like there used to be (I can't tell if it's just the lack of news or just that the new forums just suck, and you cant find anything in it.)
Anyways I found this....for anyone who hasn't read it yet, since I haven't seen it referenced on the forums.

Quote:note to marketing/pr/devs.....any news about the future of the game would be much appreciated...a tidbit here or there, a riddle we need to solve, teaser, one-liner....anything...i'm dying here.
This is why we didn't know Power Customization was coming until July, despite the fact that they had been working on it since May of 2008. Even then, we complain incessantly about how EATs and Power Pools were left out of the Customization, regardless of the fact that we were told in the initial announcement which powersets were getting customized, and the first Q&A about it told us that Power Pools and APP/PPP are next to be worked on.
Add into this already guarded mindset that City of Heroes now has competition. They now need to play their cards even closer to the vest so that the competition can't rush out some comparable feature just to claim they had it first.
My guess is that we might see some trickle of information in the next two weeks, and expect a major bomb to drop at HeroCon. -
Quote:That would be the "Sinister" pattern, available (with the Justice costume set) with either the Good vs. Evil version of the game, or as part of the G v E Goodie Pack.Hi folks,
I have a question regarding a costume pattern I saw the other night. I saw a low level villain donning a pattern that was most definitely a spider pattern. It spanned across the sides of the thighs up onto the side of the chest. To two halves combined formed a giant spider on each side of the costume.
Now I figured it was just some new pattern they added within the last few patches, so I never asked him where he got it. However I cannot find it within the costume creator. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get it? I don't have any screenshots to go by or anything so I hope my description was clear enough.
By the way the villain was *not* a VEAT, that was the first thing I checked, also had only a few vet badges and very little else..
Would really match my Widow, so I'm hoping someone can help me.
There is a "Sinister" texture as well as pattern. Sinister also comes with gloves (w/ or w/out armguards), shoulder pads, and boots (w/or w/out shinguards).
I tend to use the Sinister Boots (w/out guards) a lot, and I've gotten some good use out of the Sinister gloves (also w/out guards).
I've gotten a ton of use out of the various Justice pieces, too.
And the Jump Jet.
And the Pocket D Teleporter. -
Quote:I have mixed feelings about this cover. It is so completely different from the original version. Karen truly made the song her own. On the other hand, I love the original version, so the Carpenters' version sounds funny to me.I have a friend who thinks that "Ticket to Ride" was originally recorded by the Carpenters.
Maybe it fits in the "so bad, it's good" category, like William Shatner's version or Mr. Tambourine Man. -
Quote:Positron confirmed in an interview that Praetoria would consist of multiple Zones, but I do not recall seeing the number of Zones quantified. Some of this I have seen being mentioned by a dev (Demon Summoning, Dual Pistols, etc), but others I have not.
I'm not questioning your belief that it is in GR, but could you please provide links to avoid the inevitable debate as to whether the feature is planned or not? (I'm looking at the 6 new zones in particular.)
I'm hoping for the Universal Enhancement Slots...
He also confirmed that a character could begin their career in Praetoria (new low level content), that heroes would be able to become villains, villains could become heroes, or they could stay in the middle if they chose and become vigilantes and rogues, respectively.
New high level content has been hinted at, but not elaborated on, aside from to say that the planned high level content is supposed to make current high level content look easy.
Castle has hinted at advancement beyond 50, but not the form that advancement would take. He emphasized that it would not be a level cap increase, but something else.
While high level content and post 50 advancement have been talked about, they have not been specifically linked to Going Rogue. -
The last server you visited is always on top. After that, the servers are listed in ascending order of load, with the lightest load being in the number two spot, and the heaviest load being in the number eleven spot. While population is not the only contributor to server load, it is a major factor.
Freedom and Virtue are usually the highest load servers, with Justice and Infinity often in third or fourth place. Triumph and Pinnacle are often the lowest load. No server has ever felt particularly unpopulated to me. I often manage to find a team when I want one, and generally have to turn away at least one invite per night when I am not looking for a team. -
Badgers? Badgers?!? We don't need no stinking badgers!!
In addition to the new Praetorian content, I'd like to see some of the old content cleaned up. Fewer "busywork" missions, and a more streamlined flow, like the Villains content.
Now that we have the system in place that adds a contact to your list when you unlock them, I'd like to see the "introduction" missions go away. i.e; at level 5, David Wincott gets added to your contact list, at level 7, the Perez Park Security Chief, at level 10, the Steel Canyon Security Chief, at level 12, the Bloody Bay Liason, etc.
Since we will have the ability to "go rogue," there isn't a lot of point keeping the ATs exclusive to one side or the other, so I'd like to see us have the ability to make a heroic Dominator or villainous Blaster (for example) from level 1 and start in the appropriate zones.
I expect to see a boatload of new costume pieces, a new Co-Op / PVP zone for heroes and villains, and another Epic AT unlocked by having a hero or villain switch sides, and then go back again (complete both sets of story arcs, leading to an accolade). This last would obviously be exclusive to those who bought the Going Rogue expansion. -
I figure once they are sure the servers are stable from the launch of I16 (people are still reporting DCs while zoning), they will announce the "make up weekend." I figure we'll see at least one patch to Test then Live before then.

Quote:His defenses may be weak, but so are the enemies. The attacks may be few(?, at level two, my Brutes have four attacks, and by level 6, they have five or six), but the enemies don't have a lot of HP.I hate my new brute. His defenses are weak, his attacks are few, his endurance is low, he has no travel power, he is so annoying to play. I keep on having to stop and rest...terrible.
I've noticed that with the changes to the End Cost of Brawl and the Origin "Temp" powers, I've been able to fight a lot more enemies before I need to rest.
Travel power is usually taken care of by level 7 (I usually ding 7 during my first Mayhem Mission).
My experience does not match your experience.
Quote:And I've no cheese to go with my whine!
Quote:Seriously, though. I wonder if the whole leveling thing is essential to a successful MMORPG. I'd rather just start at 50. -
Quote:Actually, the Devs have access to this information. BAB gave us the complete breakdown of most and least played Arcehtypes some time last year. From what we've been led to understand, the Devs datamining tools are fairly comprehensive. We just don't have access to them. That is so cool!
Would love to see that for ourselves, in a way the devs could use it as an analysis tool. After all the most popular build is likely to be an over-powered build, and the most un-popular build likely to be the weakest build. As I said, analyse, just because its popular it may not be over-powered, but the likelyhood is good. Also using this tools, would also allow devs to determine which ATs need more attention than others, also could study for blue versus red balance as well.
Hugs

That being said:
I wouldn't mind seeing a feature like this either, maybe using the guts of the poor, abandoned City Vault.

Obvious question time again:
Was the deleted character on the second or third "page" of your character selection screen? Do you have unredeemed slots on your first page?
If so, the location where the slot was will show as "Unavailable," and your earliestavailable slot should now say "Create Character."
This threw me the first time I deleted a character after we got the ability to sort our characters. My heroes are on the first page, my villains on the second. I deleted a villain, and thought I "lost" a character slot somehow. -
Quote:/em threadjackI can just see her grinning now and I'm sure she's gonna make me cook dinner tonight because of it. www.papajohns.com *sigh*
This is not "cook(ing) dinner", nor is it sighworthy to put a pizza someone else prepared into the oven for 25 minutes, take it out, and then cut it. I'm hoping the sigh is just you being melodramatic.
Unless this was the standard alerady established in your household when she requests that you "cook," you should be beaten with a lasagna noodle that has only been cooked for 4 minutes until you see the light.
Papa John's is a perfectly acceptable temporary measure, but you should cook her up a really nice dinner this weekend (I hate cooking after coming home from my 9 to 5, so I wouldn't expect you to be any more enthusiastic). If you would like me to scare up my lasagna, turkey saltimbocca or chicken picatta recipes for you to wow her with, let me know. IIRC, there are a ton of Heroes on this site who appreciate and make good food. If you ask, you could probably have a hundred great and easy recipes in your in box by tomorrow afternoon (for example, my lasagna is time intensive, but the chicken picatta and turkey saltimbocca recipes are quick and easy).

Quote:Yes, just going into the tailor with that costume will shift the options to the nearest legal option. You might be able to circumvent this at a plastic surgeon, since the default menu is the body type menu, rather than the costume menu, but I would be surprised if it worked. To elaborate on the header: I have costume designs from very early issues, and some of them contain costume pieces that either are no longer available or can't be selected for some reason at the tailor, an example would be the "glowing eyes" face.
Now I haven't touched those slots for sentimental reasons even when tempted with the "retouch" bug with new costume sets on following issues. However, powerset customization makes it too good to pass up. Will I be forced to lose/redesign my old costumes if i hit "accept" when the changes were ONLY to the powers?
However, if you just wish to preserve the glowing eyes, they are still there. Face option - Supernatural 13 (on males, IIRC, the glowing eyes that you can't recolor). At the very bottom of the second Face menu, you should see Supernatural 13. Select this, and you can alter the hue of your glowing eyes. -
Quote:While there isn't a way to stop it at this point, there is a way to minimize the risk. Don't put anything you are going to click often in the number one slot. Put a toggle there. In my case, I put Build Up / Aim / Snipe on tray one, a toggle on tray two, and self destruct on tray three. I almost neveer flip trays unintentionally. Is there a way to do this? I'm not always the most precise with my mousing and sometimes it's faster to manually click stuff. Yet, every now and again, it rotates my tray (forward, back). I then have to try to recover it, usually dying in the thick of combat because of it.
Is there a way to keep the trays from flipping to another one? -
Quote:All of them with Jay Garrick's blessing. According to the Life Story of the Flash, Barry offered to stop using the name after meeting his childhood hero, the Flash, because he claimed the name without asking. Wally West went through a similar process when Jay Garrick returned to active duty with the JSA. Jay, impressed with Bart's growth from Impulse as Kid Flash, gave his blessing before Bart asked. All of the Flashes, with the exception or Gardner Fox (who was the Flash for, what, six issues), have sought, and met with, Jay Garrick's approval.
Jay Garrick has been active during Wally West's, Bart Allen's, and Barry Allen's runs. (I'm not currently reading JSA or the new Flash title, but I think both Garrick and Allen are active right now.)
Quote:Because we don't have to settle for that. Another competing company has demonstrated that alternatives are available. This a feedback board. Oddly enough, we are actually encouraged to speak out on features we might like to see in this game. I also think it would be positive for the game in terms of subscriptions and subscription retention.
Quote:This idea would be especially a good for the casual player who doesn't spend all day at the console, alternating between the forums and his/her dual box. People who live this game are all about first come, first served. But people with other life priorities might see things a little differently.
Quote:Now that I've explained that to you, can someone answer my question - why the hate against the idea? Is it just asthetics, or is something else in play?
Quote:But why would you advocate for any limitations? Why vehemently oppose the change? The thesaurus club can continue to be witty and clever and unique, but more ordinary mortals can also be happy. It would appear that much of the tech is already in place - we have invisible globals already. -
Quote:While I don't disagree that a rewards analysis is warranted, I believe that the added XP / Inf was thought to be a fair trade for lower drops. The extra influence could go towards buying the Enhancements you didn't get, and the fact that everyone was leveling faster meant that the whole team would need to use the extra influence to replace their outdated enhancements more often. The XP / Inf bonus was conceived before the Invention system, and I don't think it was revisited for Salvage and Recipe drops.Ok cool. That is some good information to know.
But why is it that the rewards aren't more evenly distributed? For example: A player soloing a 1x6 should receive the same amount of IOs as they would when six actual players are running the mission. I think players should be rewarded in every aspect to team, and not just influence/xp.
I'm not sure how the tech would work though, as each item can still only drop once. Maybe an increased chance to drop per team member. This will still get (un)lucky streaks where one player could get the lion's share of the drops, but would still result in a higher chance to get drops for the whole team.
It certainly bears consideration. -
Quote:First. There did appear to be issues with the drop rates throughout the Issue 16 beta. Synapse came forward and told us that they did not change the drop rates, so he would do some datamining, and if the datamining supported it, he would see if there was a bug in the system.I know there is a thread on this some where, but I can't find it anymore.
Anyway, I'm wondering about the recipe drop rate. I ran a Synapse TF last night on my level 50 scrapper with 7 other people, and did not get a recipe drop for the first 3 missions. Through out the entire TF I only had 4, two common IOs, and one rare dark watcher's chance for slow recharge, and a perplex.
I'm trying to think on how to put this without sounding like I want the game to be easier when it comes to getting IOs... but 4 drops in 3-4hrs of playing is crazy.
I'd like to get away from farming and run regular content to earn influence and IOs, but with the TF netting me 58 merits, one IO costing 150 - 240 merits, and getting one uncommon and one rare drop in 3hrs, it seems like farming is still the best option.
I'm sure I'll hear it from both sides, but maybe IO drops from all pools should be upped a little?
The same drop rates seemed to go live, but with the full playerbase, even over a couple of days, Synapse may have gotten plenty enough data. Word on the street is that yesterday's (Thursday 9/17) patch fixed this. People are testing today to verify this.
However, you should be aware that for every mob you defeat, there is only one roll for each possible drop, and then a random roll to see which team member gets that drop. If you want drops, it is best to farm solo. If you want XP / INF / Prestige, it is best to join teams.
On a team of seven, it could look like this:
Type of drop / Yes or No / Recipient
Inspiration / Yes / Player 3
Enhancement / No / None
Salvage / Yes / Player 5
Recipe / Yes / Player 2
Even though the mob dropped 3 of 4 possible loot, four players didn't get anything.
Welcome to the random number generator. You had a bad streak, but not totally unexpected on a team of 7. Getting the same results on a team of two or three, or solo, would have been noteworthy. -
