I'd not take / didn't take CoD at all, Stealth = less agrro = less Fury
[/ QUOTE ]
I couldn't care less about stealth (and believe me, they'll notice you soon enough).
Ability to get close to spec-ops before they see you + perception = Worth the power pick.
I'm levelling up my 2nd Villain thinking 'Why the hell didn't I notice how annoying smoke grenades were before? ... oh yeah.' -
[ QUOTE ]
When you first Gain Speed Boost, it is essential. At later levels, I found I only applied it before major fights and if I saw someone's end bar go down.
[/ QUOTE ]
unless you PvP a lot *SOBS* -
[ QUOTE ]
Slotting for Damage on Brutes is a waste of a slot, seeing as the base values are so low - Slot Acc, EndRed and Recharge before you slot Damage. At level 36, my EM/Fire Brute has precisely 0 Damage enhancements - he builds up Fury quickly and stays there until "Mission Complete!" sprays across the screen.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd agree with most of this - except for my 2 big hitters (Total Focus/ET) I do put +3xDAM in place ... always nice to have a big orange number available to you at short notice. -
I have an Ice/Kin and it is fantastic ... I really would consider Rad/Rad as well if you're thinking of soloing. Both are great soloers but manage it in very different ways.

ain't got time to breathe, about to hit 50 while jumping through a flaming hoop ... naked

anyone who says fire is good is wrong but is still right, i got really far with a Fire/Fire Blaster but after a while it got boring collecting debt
[/ QUOTE ]
Completely different. Fire/Dark ftw -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah with the changes to rains and aoe, ice storm will be worth while again, rather than just using it as a ghetto aoe fear.
[/ QUOTE ]
I find it more useful than BFR, even as a ghetto aoe fear (respecced out of BFR and loving it). -
[ QUOTE ]
but i dont belive u can say that profC or Syn is equally strong on all their toons. if so, im up for the challange... i bet my CoH account that i can beat one of theese toons with my Villain. And it wont be becuase of the power-sets itself, but depending on how good he uses them
[/ QUOTE ]
Two things.
1. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
2. I didn't say they were equally good with all toons, they just don't actively suck with any. ProfC for example got one of each AT except warshade (and possibly tanker, which was 48.8 last time I saw it) to 50 for example ... there's a difference between "better with" and "suck in the others". I'm sure it is true in your own (extreme) experience though -
[ QUOTE ]
actually, this is more truethfull than u could imagine.. after extreme experience of this game i can only tell u one thing: playing an AT is connected to ur individual personality, and only by testing them all, u will find what u like the most. in most cases ppl have 1 AT they can outplay every1 else in, but suck in the others.. i.e. a person that is awesome as a cor, can have real problems doing good with his brute, and some1 who play a brute as if it was a god, might die all the time on his stalker... its not realy the powers that determine if u become a good character, but how ur personality fits in with the tactical game-play of a specific powerset-combo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Somebody obviously never teamed with ProfC on his Controller/Defender/Scrapper/Peacebringer/Blaster/Tanker...
Or Syn on his Brute/MM/Corr ...
or (actually I can also think of people who are uniformly bad regardless of which of their toons they are playing but I won't mention them by name) .... etc.
I do agree most people do have a particular leaning in their playstyle (e.g. every single build I've played past 10 has had some control/debuff element to it).
and 'extreme experience'? what did you do? Jump off a cliff while doing the posi task force?
And to the OP, I'd say just play what you like. Teams are not always easy to come by (I actually had a /stone brute with granite turn down a team with a kinetics corruptor last night), so don't go playing a toon you hate just because you think it will make getting teams easier.. -
[ QUOTE ]
I doubt any team could hope to perma hold an AV "really easy". In my experience I've never, ever seen an AV put in a hold quickly or without a serious amount of clear minding and/or healing going on
[/ QUOTE ]
i Approach with invis on
ii Wait for purple triangles to go down
iii Spam holds
iv Spam debuff and damage before holds break
Note this isn't "perma" holding (you used to need something ridiculous like 3 grav controllers plus pets for that, so maybe 9 now?) - just "perma" "enough" (well, it lasts until they die...)
Managed to duo (or even solo) AVs like this in the past. You need at least a kin and a rad for it to work though (and 3 Fire/Rads would be great for most things but AVs (Infernal especially?) not a chance).
EDIT - Insane? ha. Try 1 lvl 50 Fire/Kin with 20+ imps (I believe the theoretical maximum was 25 but only ever saw that once) out on their own ... that was insane (*SOBS*) -
[ QUOTE ]
It never really has felt like i contribute all that much to a team
[/ QUOTE ]
As has been said, SOs will make a huge difference here. Plus Lingering Rad (when you get it). Sad fact is you have to play most builds up to 25 or so (22 if you can get inf from somewhere else) to see how they play slotted up with SOs.
As for not making a contribution, I was on a team once with my /Rad controller (so had the debuffs) where someone made a crack about them 'carrying' me (didn't have enough end to do anything once the debuffs were on). I explained this and said I'd switch to full time controlling/blasting.
So for the next fight I stood back and held/blasted while they dived into non-debuffed mobs. Team wipe. Try it again. Team wipe. They eventually figured out what was going on and asked me to switch back to debuffing -
Rad/Rad is very soloable ... if you are looking for damage output, could I suggest Sonic as a primary? A HUGE amount of fun ... the whale song might drive you mad though...

I know another Ice/Kin who's said to me he'll probably be dropping it too, as he barely uses it. That animation that goes with it is just a pain, and really feels out of place in the rest of the ice set, with it all being so quick-firing.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would be me. The main problem is fitting things in to the build - there's a number of 'juggle' powers - BFR, Ice Storm, Hover etc. BFR is great for minimising boss damage but apart from that initial shot ... I find I hardly ever use it.
[ QUOTE ]
You need both for pvp in my opinion, but maybe not so needed in pve.
[/ QUOTE ]
I actually find the reverse is true (but I do truly SUCK at PvP) - BFR as an opening hold to stack is great vs bosses in PvE, but 3 seconds is a looong time in PvP... plus I tend to find in PvP that if one hold won't do the job, 2 probably won't either... the slow effect of ice + siphon speed tends to give people more problems (YMMV). -
[ QUOTE ]
I've also found all the newcomers a little daunting myself. Well, not the players themselves, but more the fact that local is spinning by so fast that if you look away for a second, you'll miss something someone you're talking too said...
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds like it isn't dying so much as some of the regulars moving on and newcomers taking their places - not much comfort when it is your friends and storylines that suffer. I do remember a whole load of storylines back from a little under a year ago which were the main storyline at GG at the time ... most of those characters and players have since left. GG still seems to be going, although probably suffering from the same depletion that the rest of COH is suffering at the moment. -
Well, I played Ill up to 50 wrote a couple of guides about it and am one of illusion's biggest fans...
and based on the 2 you've given as choices, I'd go with ice. That's entirely down to the secondary though.
EDIT - I despise weapon drawing animations and this is almost entirely due to that.
Ill/Storm or Ill/Rad or Ill/Kin ftw!
Ice/Storm is great though. -
Ok, ignoring the whole "healer" thing, which no doubt someone will flame you to a crisp over...
If you want a corruptor that heals, I'd think long and hard before taking /Rad. The heal is just pitiful (compared to some of the others). /Rad is a great set but the heal is nothing to write home about (I got a /Rad controller to 50 and I rarely if ever used the heal). Rad has many more tricks than just a heal. If you want to play a "healer" in CoV, I'd suggest warmth or dark secondaries. (/Kin works too but isn't as straightforward in play). -
STOP TROLLING
(or at least make it believable)
btw grats to hyperfox on the off chance it is true. -
[ QUOTE ]
One of the people I've been teaming with a lot recently is a Kineticist who likes to form her own teams, and then gets people on her teams to stick close together like that. Her teams tend to storm through missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
...you've been seeing other speed boosters? but I thought I was the only one ... I bet she isn't slotted like I am... YOU'LL COME CRAWLING BACK, WAIT AND SEE!
(excerpt from any number of brute/kin teams I've been on) -
I can try to bring a lvl 27 Kin/Elec along to SB you ... might as well get as much fun out of a sapper build while it is still possible...

[ QUOTE ]
Problem I'm finding at the moment, is being neither non stalker or brute is that EVERY hero goes for you first
[/ QUOTE ]
Not always true - I target stalkers exclusively on my Fire/Dev ...
I'd love to get my Dom up to the requisite level - but I play solo mainly and soloing Dom is just a little too painful at the moment... -
... and done. Very smooth and surprisingly few faceplants from the blasters in team (myself included).

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to this poster. I read a thread (since deleted) where I assumed he was either a professional troll or a complete retard. Given it was quite a well written (if mistaken) post I assumed it was an attempt at trolling. I accused him of being a troll and he reacted strongly and abusively. I did not mean to give that much offence and I can only apologise for my mistaken assumption and hope he forgives me.
