Well I was only speaking from the perspective before you had made the decision (or before actually reading what you had decided to go with in the thread).

I guess it's in how you play it, but Elec/WP/Soul doesn't seem 'godly' to me...I mean, I've got an Elec/Regen/Mu Stalker and he just isn't the 'god' type...on the contrary. He's very very flawed, consumed by jealousy (so much to a fault that it collapses in on itself and reverses into an advantage) and is limited in power...It feels that way too since, well, Elec Melee has limited ST damage...you can't just drop a foe when you want to (even on a Stalker). If you can't do that, it kind of skews, IMO, the whole title of omnipotent/omniscient deity.

Gin though, my Dark/WP/Soul Stalker is probably as close to a god as I'm comfortable making in this game. An incarnation of pure wrath, things disintegrate when he touches them, but even his power is harmful to himself taking most of his WP to withstand the pain his own power wreck him with. Death is nothing as long as he has wrath in his heart, so he can bring himself back from the brink of non-existance, even just from ashes or dust.

But yeah, neither of them are 'gods', just incarnations of the essence of sin that gives them godly might. If they were gods, they shouldn't feel harm, they should die or lose and if they want something dead, it should be instantaneous. I'm just not convinced Elec/WP does what you say Praxis can do.

Against most of the things you'd fight in the game (bosses and EBs), Elec doesn't really do the god thing...even against lots of targets, its range is limited.

I was just (at the time) pointing out how Warshade (or even Peacebringer) can do what Elec does, ramp up and has extended range over your choice and nails that feeling better.

As for my previous mention of just waiting for new sets to release, yeah there are some nice adds that might work (after using Google) in the future. You're not me, I'll just side-roll my most powerful 'god-like' charater and amend that to her concept. You re-rolling might require you to tweek (or even break down) the concept and waste time you could be spending on Kim or Praxis' minions. There's no rush here, you're not me so you don't have to have your most powerful character literally be more powerful than all your other characters currently, right?

    Wrong.

WP is one of the better sets on Stalkers, the best probably being Ice Armor followed by Ninjutsu.

The lost of Rise to the Challenge is actually welcomed because you get greater returns on HP with Reconstruction. Why? Because Stalker's HP isn't quite that high so +Regen has a diminished effect (not to mention you need to be surrounded by lots of foes for it to work). Reconstruction? Returns more HP on average than RttC would on Stalkers. It's a different story for Tankers and Brutes with their higher than normal HP...for Scrappers? Eh...it's not bad...could probably go both ways...if Scrapper WP had Reconstruction, it'd mesh well with their tendency to build for rech for better DPS.

But yeah...WP is great on Stalkers.

It's also incredibly difficult to balance that way as the bulk of your body weight is is in your back, causing your entire torso to tip backwards. If MJ were resting her back against the backrest then I could see that. It's actually pretty comfortable, and her back would be spreading much of her body weight so she probably wouldn't sink in as much. However, she's not. The way she's arching her back, she's literally balancing on one shin and one foot.
No need to over analyze it. I can get the jib of people making fun of it, but the context of the picture could be many a things. I'd probably need to see the panels that come after that, but that could very easily be Mary-Jane taking a break to stretch her back (and boobs, I guess...not complaining) after reading some articles waiting for Peter. It might not be a pose she's actively sitting in, but just a transitional/temporary position imagined by the artist to express more things about the character with only that one panel.

Personally, I think you're going to be stuck making new effects if you make new animations and vice versa. There's probably little you can do about that...but perhaps revising the package may help. Some ideas:

-Elemental Pack = Animation and effects for elemental sets. Includes:
    • Fire Melee: Sword type projection for all the attacks, non-Sword type animations for the sword attacks. Flaming Kick animation for Incenerate.
    • Ice Melee: Sword type projection for all attacks, non-Sword type animations for the sword attacks. Ice Sweep animation for Frozen Aura.
    • Fire Blast: Firefly projection. Bug and Bird shaped particles for blasts powers (think Beast Master attacks with flaming birds and fire bees)
    • Ice Blast: Ice-make weaponry. Knives, shuriken and swords made of ice for blast powers.
    • Ice/Fire Manipulation/Assault: receive any similar options. where applicable from above.
    • Thermal Radiation/Fire Armor: proliferate armor auras + heat aura (a more simple glowing aura that adds a pulsing glow on the contours of target).
    • Ice Domination/Armor: proliferate armor auras + crystal aura (a more simple translucence aura with a color palette overlay and diamond sparkle [Not a blocky ice armor])
This would be a lot of work but it'd be limited to 6 sets (+4 more where it can be copied). This, I would price at 2800 PP and nothing less. But I'm not sure if that's too cheap (but I'd imagine it is). I'd personally pay 2800 for *half* of that.

-Fire Pack = Basically the above excluding the ice stuff...put ice stuff in their own separate pack. This would still cover 6 sets and priced at 2800 PP.

-Ice Melee Pack = Basically breaking the above down further. Ice Melee Pack would only have the extras for Ice melee that use swords or not which would transfer to other sets like Ice Manipulation and Assault. For the Ice-make blast, that would be in another pack as would the Ice Armor Pack. I'd price these at 800 PP.

-Ice Sword Pack = Just the sword animations for the non-sword attacks. This includes alternate swords and animations for Frozen Fist, Frost, Taunt, Build up, Ice Patch, Frozen Touch, Frozen Aura, Chilblain and Shiver. That's 9 powers but across 2 sets. I'd price this at 400 PP. Basically, then, separate these by theme...

But some ideas of alternate animations I'd like:

-Seeing the new animations for Beast Mastery, I always liked the idea of a fire manipulator shaping fire into birds then throwing that at people...could be magic or just a mutant affinity to that image...now I want fire bees too.

-Ice-make blast, of course, because then I'd be able to make a ninja dom that uses ice throwing knives, an ice katana and can turn a field into an arctic tundra. I wanted to do this with Stalkers but Doms now seem far wilier and ninja-like...and Stalkers don't get (good) shuriken/knife attacks.

    -Fencing for Broadsword

    -Iaido for Katana

    -Reverse grip for Dual Blades

    -Flower Control for Plant Control

    -Sand Armor for Stone Armor

    -Metal/Magnetism for Earth Control

-Blood Melee (or Oil Melee) for Dark Melee

-etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc....

That's a really big bonus when considered alongside form of the soul itself. If it were slottable that would compromise your ability to slot sky splitter as an attack and the values would also be lower. The fact that you don't keep level three perfection on permanently if you're using sky splitter as part of your chain is no impediment at all: that recovery bonus is permanent barring misses, and if sky splitter has level three perfection to cash in then it itself is guaranteed to be affected by the endurance discount, and it's the most costly part of the chain. It's win-win-win with form of the soul.
Except one of those wins is automatically cashed in for lose when you consider the lackluster effect it adds to Eye of the Storm (it's practically worse than Lotus Drop/Whirling Sword in every way and yet can't be slotted for -def (so no proc)). I wished the bonus to perfection of Mind was something more noticable, like 25-30% rech bonus but how much does 15% bonus do when it's going to be dropping every 6-10sec? I'd concede that Soul's bonus can actually help a good deal (33% reduction in cost is actually substantial even if it drops occasionally) but it feels a waste to ever spend it on a measly amount of -def that is implanted in lots of powers and for free.

But I'm not even asking for more bonuses, just more focused application of the powers' effects. I'd be content with 15% rech if I could use it to help kill a target or bring bring up mitigative powers faster...and I wouldn't feel the stances so cheap if I wasn't spending good buffs for crap ones.

Most importantly to me, it gives totally unique defensive bonuses when it consumes perfection: CU is nice but let me know when it gives you permable slotted health and stamina on top of the bonus endurance discount you're getting just because of the set you're using. You say you love the deadly efficiency of tomaytoes, I say I prefer the broad staying power of tomahtoes.

    ...

Again I state that there is no way on earth that staff gets to keep all of this in addition to increased damage.
What's the increased damage you're talking about? Is it from Form of the Body in that so the other two forms suffer? And when I say suffer, I mean in their general utility, not their damage output.

I'm still not seeing the bonuses (particularly the unslottable +regen and +recovery for 10sec or the slow and -def, also unslottable) as much to say it's a tomahtoe with staying power...and you can't keep that staying power if you choose to do extra damage...especially if you consider that you lose the bonuses from perfection by using finishers.

Not sure if it's been suggested, but I'd actually completely drop the whole 'finisher' mechanic, at least on Form of Soul, basically keeping a 3 stack perfection bonus as long as you keep attacking and drop the mind's PBAoE finisher or change it to the same buff as Sky Splitter's or even combining them so it'd look something like:

    Mind's Finisher = Skysplitter (+regen/+recovery/+ToHit)
Soul's Finisher = Eye of the Storm (-def/-rech/-movement)
Body's Finisher = Eye of the Storm (-res), Skysplitter (+res)

Love staff fighting and here's some numbers to compare for the fun of it

    Staff fighting tier 9,189.9
Broadsword tier 9, 187.7 [But Head Splitter can hit 5 foes]
Dark melee tier 9, 189.9 [Mostly Neg Energy dmg too]
    Dual blades tier 9, 161.5 [Can hit 10 foes...easily]
    Fire melee tier 9, 207
Katana tier 9, 164 [Can Also hit 5]
Martial arts tier 9, 164 [Buffs dmg on Tankers, has a substantial crit bonus on Scrappers and plain hits harder on Stalkers (for the same as Midnight Grasp)]
Street justice tier 9, 218.8(more then fire? sounds like something needs a nerf)
    Titan tier 9, 166 [Hits 5]
Kinetic melee tier 9, 222.7(no build up or combo points system to up damage seems like a fair trade) [Has a chance to recharge Power Siphon instantly or BU for Stalkers]

    Seems pretty comparable so far

OK lets check the main aoes of some sets(I'll try to use PBAOEs when possible)

    Staff fighting EOTS 84.65
Broadsword Whirling Sword 87.59 [Not an actual advantage belonging to the set itself but, you can slot the achilles proc here]
Dark melee Shadow maul 148.4(still meh cause it's a lame super short cone) [Then practice. It's childs play to hit 5 foes with it and it hits nearly as hard as some tier 9s and recharges way way faster and costs nearly nothing]
    Dual blades Typhoons edge 78.45
Fire melee Fire sword circle 126.7 [15ft]
    Katana The lotus drops 91.34
Martial arts dragons tail 81.2 [Oh so much faster and sleeker too]
Street justice spinning strike 106(not a true pbaoe but TAOE not nearly as good imo but gets better damage to make up for it)
Titan Whirling Smash 95.05 [Has a 15ft radius too]
    Kinetic melee Burst 86.02

ok how about the few sets that get range attacks(ST only I'll try)

Staff Serpents reach 123.9 [I didn't know Serpents did more damage...however kind of peeved it doesn't have the knock chance I wanted...maybe this is why I'm not feeling this set. I needed a strong super knockback power in this set...Titan Weapons has a few 100% KD ripe to slot for KB to give that option of a 'I just swatted yo *** 50ft away' concept which is exactly what I wanted from Staff and not much else...]
Claws focus 95.66 [Ultimately, it'll probably do more damage than any of them. Focus is fast, decently powerful, cheap and has a juicy 100% KD chance which is very nice for mitigation]
Kinetic melee Focused Burst 112.9 [Focused Burst is probably the worst of these type of attacks...it's slow and doesn't really edge anyone out on dmg.]
Spines Impale 137.9 [At least this does nice damage despite being old and slow. I haven't yet fully slotted Serpents to decide which I like best but so far Focus is 1st, Impale is 2nd and Focused Burst is Last.]

[You also forgot Stone Melee and Super Strength with their tRow rOk power]

Everything seems pretty balanced to me with a few outliers here and there but nothing to big.

I don't see an exceptionally whack balance job either...I just wish the stances were actually something the set can really boast...and when I say boast, I mean *NOT* just one of the stances. All of them.

It had been staring me in the face the entire time but it took the words of a sage for the last piece to fall into place. At once I leapt from my chair, somersaulted around the room and sat back down, my purpose truly clear for the first time: I had to reroll. But to what? Well, the one thing I'm sure about is that damage is strong. Another thing I learned one time is that fire hurts. I'm still trying to work out how to apply this information but I have a couple good leads.

    Well that's pretty dumb.

Every team I've been on has 2-4 staff users. Team leaders would have to basically *avoid* inviting melee characters because 3/4 are probably staff at the moment. But all things said, I haven't seen these idiot l33t leaders that go around kicking subpar things out of their teams which include Trick Arrow, Sonic Resonance, anything with knockback so Energy Blast, Dual Pistols, Storm, Force Field, newbs that use whirlwind and handclap wrong, non-dps sets like Spines and Staff, highly resisted sets like Archery, Katana/Broadsword, weak AoE sets like Dark Melee, Psi Blast and Martial Arts, sets with QQ effects like Black Hole, Dimension Shift, Sonic Cage, Group Fly and Team Teleport...meh, it's probably easier to pick the sets those lame-os actually do invite...but of all those 'crap' combos, they probably still bring along the lamest of all, pure Emp defenders. *shrug*

From playing my Staff/Inv brute in the 20s, I'll just shrug and say I'm underwhelmed. Perhaps I haven't clicked with the concept of the character yet but I'm not feeling the set at all...and this is coming from someone who adores his Spines/DA stalker and pretends he's not using or covered in spines...

To me, Staff is Spines but with a bit more utility vs some extra dmg...but makes up for that with a bit more overall speed. That is, it does weaker ST dmg but what it does get is better and faster than Spines. The AoE is probably close to Spines but I dunno. You get a +def cone attack and stances with a variety of effects.

Was underwhelmed by the stances though. Haven't gotten to the tier 9 though but I'm not feeling the +rech or +end discount bonuses are quite as useful as they could be and the debuff in EotS is pretty ignorable besides the one stance...

This is still better than Dual Pistols' swap ammo though. That players feel the lack of omph from perfection stances just emphasizes how sub par swap ammo is.

But also wanted to add, maybe you should just stick with Kim for now and patiently wait for news on the upcoming sets. One of those might be something that fits the character better. In the meantime, you can keep thinking about this new character!

I never feel rushed when it comes to creating character concepts. Eventually it will come and I'll feel all the more stoked when the character's realized thanks to more game additions like powers, costume pieces or content.

If they do, it's probably not going to be until months after they take the set down. I wouldn't mind though, if they kind of 'refunded' the tokens you spent on that set when they change methods so then you can put it down on the next newest set...but that'd kind of ruin the whole 'rotate sets of tier 9' thing...but maybe they're rethinking that? This is coming from a player who was not tier 9 when we got free to play and didn't get tier 9 until a good few months after the tier system was added but am tier 9 now but still don't have all the pieces of Celestial or Fire and Ice:

It's one thing to not like where certain options are located (some don't like the elemental order set being in super packs and that's a *REALLY* nice set!) but things need to be somewhere and vets expressed a desire for something meaningful to replace their special rewards when free-to-play was on the horizon.

If you want to complain at someone, complain at the vets who wanted it. The devs simply do what the players want.

Heck, some vets didn't even want an *option* for non-vets to get their junk...only locked behind time but the devs thought better of that. Be happy there's another way to obtain the stuff. You don't have to have the entire set the instant it releases...most VIP vets won't, after all.

I don't know when, but Energy Aura's Energy Cloak was changed.

...in short, Energy Cloak makes you practically unseen when it's unsuppressed but completely seen when suppressed and it suppresses the instant a foe is caught in Entropic Aura.

Besides being late to the thread, I doubt I'd have suggested an AT for that reason. Let him pick then we can tell him the good points of it.

As for the Elec brute being weak, that's what Gloom is for. It does wonders on lethal resistant foes on my Claws/EA/Soul brute but the redraw does kind of make it a 'only if the foe is resistant or you have nothing recharged' attack.

I've found that when you start dealing with matters of above-cosmic levels of significance, trying to explain the rules or explain the motivations just serves to undermine the grandeur of it all. We're afraid of that which we don't understand and we respect that which simply works. To explain Praxis' motivations would be the equivalent of humanising her, and I don't want to do that.
This makes me think of Tenchi Muyo (or whatever sub-series of Tenchi it was that I saw when Adult Swim aired Toonami on April 1st) and basically:

Not hating on Tenchi and I remember watching the series years back but...it's probably not the series I totally got into mainly because everything seemed so randomly resolved. The overall plot transcended everything, even itself and when it all came back to the characters it amounted to not actually doing anything. Whatever happened happened and the cast (besides Tsunami and Washu) couldn't do anything to the outcome...but then the outcome doesn't matter (remember?) and basically just rewinds to something else and we're back to just enjoying the cast. So why is that plot there?

I dunno...never finished all the Tenchis. Someone want to spoil it for me?

All in all, not being able to write for cosmic or transdimensional beings is partially the fault of the writer (because how can you expect someone who's lived for less than a century think like someone who's lived for eons?) but mainly the fault of the character. I mean, how dare you interfere with lowly mortals without a reason? And that reason should have a consequence even if the character doesn't suffer for it...someone else does. If not, then why does the story matter at all? With their amount of power, they can just rewind things and do them again or not.

It really gets hairy in my head trying to think of stories for such characters. That's probably why I leave those types to characters as NPCs and leave their influence in the hands of special empowered individuals under them or everything is their influence...they don't have to be shown lifting a finger to end or begin civilizations or galaxies. Lol, in my universe, the 'god(s)' are actually playing cards, wagering fates and outcomes on an impossibly complex game of chance...yeah, earth was created because someone screwed a bluff with a pair of threes or something I'm sure there's a trope for writing mundane tasks that have significant effects on the environment around them...

But anyway, off that tangent, I always think it best to figure *something* out soon as you're developing your universe...some sort of end or goal or problem to resolve. For mine, it's the very end that is ultimately being resolved...should the 'end' be utter destruction? A utopia or heaven? Throw your hand in and start it all again? Should there be good and bad, light and dark? In heaven, would you have free will/thought? Could you think freely in a utopia free of conflict, negative emotions and opposing extremes? Should karma enter the equation when starting over? Ultimately players that know of the end are attempting to write it in respect to their wishes, and even the god(s) are setting up the pieces to make this determination. That's the purpose of the story, to get to a conclusion and keep you entertained on the ride there. Not having the address to the destination isn't a problem but not having a destination is. You have to wonder why you're driving in the first place.

Even to make one simple movement, the animators had to cheat. It looks clumsy and silly.
Well, Titan Weapons looks pretty clumsy too but that's mostly due to size and speed. But there aren't many examples of the concept. I'd more imagine the concept of the animal using the weapon in a similar fashion that a human would use a reverse grip blade while also using their forepaws to claw, basically giving them 3 bladed weapons.

Because that's entirely beside the point, maybe?

I mean, a human with armor and a sword and shield is better than a human with just fists, right? Or a human with power gauntlets is better than a human without advanced tech, right?

You seem to be making the argument I'm avoiding something when you're basically disregarding the fact that I can make a point for either case. It's the same point Golden Girl had tossed aside, wanting a 'how?' that satisfies her 'why?' and if it doesn't it's invalid.

Yes and the videos of Sif are the only demos you have presented to show your point of view. Therefore I must judge the validity of your statements on what you present. You don't get to pick and choose what part of the video can be used to prove or disprove your point.
And why not? I pointed to the video to demo animations. You're theorycrafting as if this concept is using that video as a bible to go on. Hell, I originally posted pictures to demonstrate what it'd look like and the video is to demonstrate to those that do not understand what I was saying when describing the movements.

Case in point, people imagined a dog swinging their head around to swing the sword and I described them using their whole body in the movement, not just their neck. That video is to show, more visually, what I was attempting to describe...because the opponents of my suggestion could not visualize any decent amount of impact or arc from the attacks.

One grave weakness of a Wolf with a Sword in it's mouth is ...they have a sword in there mouth...which is attached to their head...which has vulnerable points.

Talk to people who use swords. One of the more common places to be hit is on the limb holding the sword. With humans this is the hand or arm. On a Sword Wolf it would be the face. But unlike a human who with a deft spin of there wrist can bring the guard to defend the exposed limb, the wolf can not. Whether the wolf has a sword or not the face will be a target. And the mass of the sword will slow down the ability of the head to avoid blows aimed at it.

Repeat after me. The Wolf with Sword in Mouth does worse then Wolf using teeth.
    *rolls eyes*

You're going around in circles because you're trying to put words in my mouth that I never said. But in the case that a blow is aimed at the head of a dog, it's ability to block is non-existent.

As to your current example of a giant human vs a wolf, that sounds like a with a sword wielding man vs toy poodle. Since the sword is designed for humans it doesn't matter how close the poodle gets the sword can be speared down and through the poodle Shish-ka-bob! or treated as a golf ball FOUR! Unlike a wolf a human can use a sword and aim using both eyes to easily skewer small animals around it's feet.
More like trying to kill an aware and intelligent mouse with a +80lb 12ft sword that has to contend with wind resistance. It's like a dinosaur hunting small mammals...they're too frikken big and the mammals so small they'd be lucky to hit them at all. Remember, things scale up with size.

This in respose to the last part of the quote of "And unlike the human the wolf lacks a second appendage to choke up on and so the sword is useless compared to it's natural weapons of teeth."

Please show me where my Bias is and point out the second appendage a wolf has that will allow it while in battle to "choke up on and use a sword effectively.
Now I don't know what you're talking about. Do we do this in game? How does this relate in any way? Are we pointing out the things an animal with a weapon in their mouth can't do? While ignoring that it's not done in any animations in the game?

But let me save you some trouble and point out where you've got some loopy tangent stuck in your head:

I am not opening a school to teach animals to use swords in their mouths. This, most likely, will never be a reality because animals are not intelligent enough to use tools in an advantageous way like us humans. So going on and on about what human swordsmen can do and what an animal cannot is rather beside the point and ultimately side-tracked me in my answers. But it's all a waste of time to attempt to rationalize fantasy unless you have more time on your hands than you have to do with.

A fit 6' tall human on average will weigh 20% more at around 180lbs, and a non fit American a whole lot more.
Well the average man varies by race but it's generally 5'10 and 160lbs but that's splitting hairs. The length of the average wolf that I mentioned, 1-1.5 of those feet is just their tail. So comparing to a relatively similar sized human of 5ft, they're going to weigh similar (average weight of a man that size is also around 120-140lb). Things blur when you use median sizes or max sizes or fantasy sizes. A buff man is going to weigh more than just an average/unfit person and a buff man is probably the type of guy that'd be using a sword. *shrugs*

You try to dismiss it with a Strawman Argument of "cartoonish vibrations and amplifications" when I said "torque, impact and vibrations", then you imply that a dogs mouth can hold a metal pipe being hammered on and it would be OK.
Well first of all, I said nothing of the sort nor implied it. You keep saying things then trying to move my mouth as if I said them. Put a metal pipe in a dog's mouth and hammer it? It'd shatter their teeth? Yeaaah...I totally explained that that's how things work...and you say *I'm* using strawmen...

    Quote:
You dodge the question, i surmise because you know that if someone did that to a dog it would likely injure their teeth and jaws and instead try to divert the topic. to that of a human wrist.
I didn't dodge the question, I pointed out how ridiculous the original statement was. About as ridiculous as splintering a man's wrist by the same technique.

But I'll add a point that dogs injure their mouths a lot. They can harm their teeth by biting things that are too hard or even have them pulled out by gripping something that is yanked out of their mouths (like large prey that fights to escape). But it's more going on a tangent mentioning this since my point wasn't to explain that swords are better than bites.

    Quote:
So I will ask once again very specifically. If you saw someone coax their dog to hold a sword in there mouth and then they hit the sword as hard as a real fighter would, are you honestly saying you would sit by and do nothing to stop them?
And I will finish this post with this quote.

This is sooo much a waste of my time. You're lucky I'm playing CoH right now as I probably wouldn't even bother. But I'll answer the sentiment of this question with this:

I have never, not ever, expressed a wish to teach a dog or any animal to wield a weapon in its teeth. Creating a character that does it is not equivalent to expecting such to happen in real life or else I'd expect to shoot lasers from my eyes and breath fire and ice.

Because if your question did matter, I'd have to call a GM whenever I see a Beast/Traps MM using detonator on their wolves.
