Quote:I'd rather a 'permanent rain' zone...turn off/on the rumbling and flashing of thunder and lightning every now and then, put some puddles down on the streets, make the pavement more reflective (because it's wet, ya know), drainage ditch flooded, pipes with rushing waterfalls of gritty water, citizens walking with umbrellas...I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but another idea the devs suggested to the audience which seemed to get quite a positive response was making any revamp of Kings Row include turining it into a perma-night zone.
I mean, yeah, of course you'd RP that it didn't *always* rain there but if you ever needed that type of atmosphere, hop over to Kings Row and have at it. -
Wow, I thought someone else would have posted that already. I guess I deserve a pat on the back and a turkey leg

Haven't read the thread yet, but I would have sworn Enhancement converters drop from grey cons, even the ones far below your level.
If not, then it must have been a bug when my lvl 43 DP blaster was putting out another fire (thank you, Cryo Rounds) and I had to take down some Hellions, I got 2 during one building fire.
I didn't check to see it they dropped from the fire or from the hellions but I defeated a lot more hellions than fires for 2 to have dropped.
I wouldn't mind converters dropping from greys if they don't already. -
Well that power is certainly an idea...if you think about the abilities of the set and wanted to keep its style unique...
The recovery orb could be similar to Triage but also recover endurance and stuff...
Then have any actual healing be done with a power called 'Energy Capsule' which'd work like that power in the video except it'd be a ranged targeted summon. It'd simply create an immobile pet almost exactly like a trip mine except its activated by allies. Trip over the capsule and it 'explodes' in healing in an AoE.
If they're stackable, having a battlefield set-up with these pets, it can be a means to support the environmentally aware or basically the opposite of mines, where you prepare for a hard fight in advance. -
Yeah, that's pretty bad and you should feel bad for suggesting it...but I'd have played it still. Call it Pestilence, then pitch it with the 3 other sets Famine (support set that is all debuffs), Death (control set using bones) and War (it'd have to be a Mastermind set but they said to leave those out...)

Quote:Easy. Put an inventions crafting station next to the merit vendor guy. Now it's a convenience to go to WW/BM since you can buy salvage, recipes, spend merits and craft all in one place.
So, how to incentivize players actually using the actual market locations?
...as long as you don't come back complaining that "This ruins the Universities as social space for crafting!" because then I'd have to pounce on your face. -
Quote:Well you're the one that brought up examples that didn't make a point and at best were just tangents.obviously an MMO is not directly comparable to a comic book.
The fact remains that the dev "authors" can make stuff do anything they want it to, as they are the defining power in the game universe.
But anyone can justify practically any concept in this game. The point was no dev has gone and done that yet. But if they do decide to express that reason, I'm betting it will be cheezy. -
Quote:I don't really think I need to know. I mean, I didn't *want* to know about some of the other stuff I had seen...I just wanted to see the Sorcery pool...but I saw a lot more than I bargained for. If it's not on beta, I probably don't need to see it (unless it's more power pools like a mutant pool...then I have to see it...or a melee/(de)buff AT...then I need to see that too...)You know how much I disagree with this, but this is not the place for it. Drop me a PM and I will key you in on something else.
Quote:Personally, I'm most interested in them proliferating Energy Aura to Tankers.
...melee don't really need a whole bunch more stuff...definitely not the amount of attention they seem to be getting from the powerset development department. -

Quote:Bestowing powers on a character in a comic does not equal bestowing powers on all characters that share similar powers in all of a brand's continuity.Any comic book writer could bestow it upon them at any time, and it'd be no more logical (or illogical) than any of their other menagerie of strange powers and resistances.
In this case, devs = comic book writer.
AFAIK, sonic powers don't grant psionic resistance. If a sonic armor set were to be made, it'd follow the same rules unless a specific element were named to describe the reason. -
Quote:Well I know it's already made...I've seen the power descriptions. My guess is, they aren't even going to put it on Beta until after they release *at least* 2 non-melee powersets. We have no clue what is in the works, or on what schedule. Did you not find it odd that psi melee was not suggested at the panel? It has been requested for a LONG time, it was one of the options on the survey back in the day. Odd how it was not brought up there. I figure that is because it is already in the works.
Quote:Rad armor may not excite you, but it sure as heck does excite me. The only thing about water blast that excites me is seeing others use it in the game. We each have our personal little things that we love. Me, I only play melee toons, so of course I am going to be more excited by something for melee toons being chosen.
But the attention I think melees deserve? Proliferate more sets to Stalker and proliferate Ice armor/melee to them all. That's really all they need, ATM. -

Quote:the perpetually aggrieved fringe of the PvP community carrying on like someone just stole their binkey illustrates one type of behavior that keeps people away from PvP in droves.
But what I get from the whole summit thing is...some are forcing the PvP subject while others are exasperatingly reminded that the subject of the summit has nothing to do with PvP...while ignoring there will be no focused discussion on PvP in the future.
Well, maybe I just don't know how the summit is lined up but the problem is there is no PvP panel. -
Quote:Don't forget the other shifts in the industry. Back when hybrid models of subscription weren't seen as positively, the 'cold-war' era of superhero games where we actually had competitors to worry about and so on. Priorities may have been different then.To be honest, I think our current powers team is just straight up better. I am not down on Castle, I think he was just burnt out from having to work the game through some rough transitions. Geko I think was an idiot, and his idea of game design baffles me.
The current team in general is different in a huge way, which I will explain my view on. The old team was very stuck on what the game could not do. The new team is more focused on what they can make the game do. Because of this difference, and the influx of money, we are seeing a better CoX than we have seen in years. It is a game I feel now has a chance of reaching the potential it always had. Around issue 4 (pvp) I got bored with the game, but kept my sub up any way. My best friend asked me why, my response was the potential that I saw, and I couldn't wait to see what they would do next.
Although I still don't think current development is all roses and sunshine. There's still bugs (probably more now), imbalances and inconsistencies that don't seem to be on the schedule to be revised. To me, it seems like the company is riding the money train to pump out as much as possible until it inevitably slows to a trickle...then they'll downsize and have the smaller team largely focus on fixing the girth of content from previously. -
Quote:Right, we don't know. I'm pretty sure Staff Fighting was already animated and mostly set-up before Beast Mastery was leaked and yet was released after Beast Mastery. So order isn't chronologically when the set is finished.Well I'm certain we'll see Water blast before we see Rad armor. I mean from the leaked stuff, they've at least got the set and its mechanics down, they may just still be tweaking it so it works, or waiting on the animations.
But we probably won't see 'throwing weapons' as a blast set til after Rad armor, at the least.
Who knows! There are plenty of sets coming out anyway that'll keep us busy busy.
And the set is still a 'bare sketch'...unless one of the devs mentioned the priority of the set, they can still put it aside till (much) later and work on things that are of higher priority...a new blast set might have higher priority since only two ultimately are on the tally so far (Beam Rifle and now Water Blast) over Rad Armor, which honestly, just seems popular but nothing else beside that to bring it up. -
Quote:Well, I can only hope they just take the 'bare sketch', put it on the white board for later and get to work on more pressing things like throwing weapons and MORE WATER. Seriously, with Water Blast on the schedule for release despite the theme being expressed as 'impossible' in the past, why not talk of water control, water melee, water armor or something like that? What was developed at the pummit was a bare sketch. They were just throwing out concepts, it'll be up to the devs to detail the fine numbers and powers. There was some thought about an 'overload' mechanic too that wasn't all that clear. And it's the devs, they're not just going to copy and paste a lot of stuff together and call it done. By the time it's done it'll be a separate and alternate choice. There's nothing wrong with more variety
I could only wish Dark Armor was as good theme-wise to pull off Water as it is for Radiation...I couldn't do it as the water looked too dark, too gassy and the effects didn't quite fit.
Oh! if we don't get Penny's Psi defense, make it into a mechanic for water armor, a big bubble of water you keep around that feeds your armor and heals you. Could work... -
Quote:Neither of them have psychic protection, tho.If radiation can turn Peter Parker into Spiderman & Bruce Banner into the Hulk, I'll gladly trust it to protect me from a lil' psionic damage.
Quote:This. I'm not sure I need to have a perfect thematic explanation for every armor works. If I did, then only Invulnerability and Regen would make sense.
That's why we have uniqueness in the sets and variety in their mitigation. Why doesn't Energy Armor have psionic defense or resistance? Oh well, it has recharge, endurance and lots of other defense so it's all right.
My point is, I'd rather the armor have no psionic protection at all in exchange for better debuffing power as the set's hook. The whole proposed set looks exactly like how much time was probably put into scribbling up the concept...basically, pulling it from the *** in a few swift moments. -
My KM/Elec scrapper, Silver Mage, constantly hovers and uses various bright colors for KM attacks as pixy force energy, including Burst.
It's not so much 'ground base' looking as it is 'expanding energy'...however, it does kind of sound 'ground base' too as the impact makes a sound like it's connecting with the ground. -
Quote:Is that how the powerset actually turned out though? AFAICS, it's mission failed, primarily because the concept of the set itself was not sound. The only debuffs I see are in the absorb click power, the taunt aura and the meltdown power which is after a crash I think. When Radiation Armor was first proposed, many many years ago, the idea was it would make extensive use of debuff auras - like the Radiation Emission toggle debuffs, but coming from the body of the Tanker. Thus, it would be functionally different to anything currently available.
Quote:#2 game play mechanics. Melee vs Ranged. Maybe this Radiation Armor will give people the playstyle they want for a melee toon, that the other sets do not.
Frankly, you'd have to draw on straws if you're trying to convince someone that the proposed set is unique...it has a self rez though!! Bio armor doesn't have that!
Quote:I know I'm still hoping for a Positional Defense/Regen-Self Heal set with Smashing/Psi Resist just to fit my concept. Though, I can get close to this with Time Manipulation (Time Manip itself fits the concept too), without my prefered Range set delivering enough DPS, Id rather go melee.
Quote:#3 Just more options period! Some people don't like to repeat powersets. Some just want more options.
And lots of other reasons I'm sure. -
Except Radiation isn't know to interact with psionic powers. And since psionic damage is treated as an exotic dmg type, one has to have a reason to have protection from it. "Because it's radiation" just shows how weak thematically the set really is.
-
Quote:Well, you have to remember the forums aren't the only avenue to speak about the game or even are the majority when it comes to thoughts or ideas. Both this thread and the Plummet itself reinforced an idea that my brain just keeps stubbornly resisting: the players have some very, very eccentric fixations.
Post-apocalyptic costume set? I'd never been given even the slightest impression that there was anyone interested in this sort of thing, but now we're getting it, according to this thread because it had the best and most popular presenter.
Radiation armor? I might've argued for this, but I'd always had the impression that I was in a very small minority. I'm even more surprised at comments like, "Thrown Weapons allows for so much more." Ultimately, it makes little difference to me. I like new sets, regardless of what they are.
As for zone revamp, while I've found lots of forumites' suggestions both interesting and of limited appeal to the game as a whole, Independence Port really has me scratching my head.
I see the same sort of peculiar, eccentric preoccupations in-game. I have one channel-mate who will complain about the lack of banking animations for flying characters on any pretext and who never takes Fly as a result. I never would have even noticed this "issue," let alone thought of it as a problem.
Those sorts of preoccupations develop naturally in a group this size, but I'm always surprised when one of them, whether it originates with a developer or a player, rises to the level of something that makes it into the game. It always feels as if someone happened to find the Golden Ticket in his Wonka Bar while the rest of us have merely the delicious chocolate. Not so much a complaint here as an observation.
Perhaps I'm not the best choice to comment on this sort of thing. The feature I always wanted (make your own missions) was added to the game several years ago, and while it doesn't always work perfectly, it works well enough. But I remain perpetually surprised at some of the things that other people are looking for to complete their game experience.
But it does leave me scratching my head about Radiation Armor. Yeah, I'm sure it's a hot topic of a lot of threads on the forums, but you can already make a radiation armor character in the game: Dark Armor colored something other than dark and Radiation Emissions on Defender, Controller or Corruptor. IMO, asking for Rad armor is like asking for melee weapon sets on Defender/Controller to fit the theme of a melee Rad character...or asking for Storm Armor because apparently Storm Summoning isn't 'armory' enough on those other ATs.
Feels like the playerbase is squandering what little opportunity we have...or maybe that the devs should actually use that avenue of player feedback to make future sets to avoid conflicts like Bio Armor vs Rad Armor...which I'm sure Bio could fit a Rad theme and if not, Dark.
That said, Thrown Weapons would have been a great set, animation wise, for the ranged ATs. Even if kept simple, there are various ways to throw things: overhand, under, backhand sweep, multiples, arching...a lot of character movement vs push hand out, push two hands out. -
Quote:And psionic attacks are often projectiles which can be evaded, even if they can pass through solid matter. The same way a Shield often does? The same way SR can dodge many of them?
Quote:The same way it prevents you from being held by the force of gravity
Quote:and the way it prevents you from being held by a block of ice and the way it prevents you from being held by the power of dark energy and the way it prevents you from being held by mental control?
Quote:The cosmic energy coats your synapses? It's magic? The radiation is concentrated in the nervous system and rapidly heals any overload in that system very well?
Those are hard themes linked to the concept of the powers that don't require origin or specific character detail.
Quote:How would radiation block a sword or bullet? -
The way I view Longbow as a player of both redside and blueside and having a few characters who's bio ties into working in or closely with heroic organizations like Longbow, Wyvern and Vanguard...
You have to have a certain level of vigilantism to want to join Longbow. Why else would one feel the need to join a para-militant organization like Longbow but *not* join the Army/Marines, PPD etc? You don't think the meta superheros are thwarting villains properly? Why would one think they'd have to go so far as to carry grenades, assault rifles and flamethrowers just to 'help'?
It's one thing to dawn a cape and tights and jump in to bust up some villains, and it's another to exercise martial law when there's a perfectly capable police force. If the PPD step out of line, they're subjected to the laws and punishable by the government. I doubt Longbow can say the same.
So yeah, if anyone in Longbow are 'heroes' and want to join an organization to help the city, they should be in the PPD. End of story.
PS: And before one asks "Well why don't all blueside characters join the PPD?", I'll say not all blueside characters want to join a larger organization that enforces the law on an entire population. Some just want to do what they can. If you're going to be the workhorse for an agency that enforces the law, join the right one. Otherwise stick with the cape and non-committed agencies that don't break laws where they're convenient. -
Quote:We need vigilante missions like this.Just as an aside, I happened to stumble upon that mission for the first time this year, right in the midst of Statesman dying. It's a bizarre premise for Blueside heroes anyway, but it accidentally takes on a really darkly funny/horrifying context with Statesman's death looming in the backdrop of Ms. Liberty's seemingly carefree briefing. I couldn't help but read into it something like this...
"Hi! You're probably wondering why I'm here in Pocket D cheerfully dressed up for a night on the town instead of locked in my room crying like I have been for the last week or so. Well, it's because I realized that we heroes aren't bound by the natural laws of life and death! And I'm going to test it out by bringing my grandfather's archenemy's old girlfriend back to life! And once I've proven those naysayers at the Midnight Squad who keep babbling about 'playing God' and 'zombie apocalypse' wrong, I'll bring my family back too! So, you wanna help me steal some books on black magic from the Circle of Thorns so we can get started? Great, you go grab those books and I'll start drawing the pentagram!"
It all suddenly made a disturbing amount of sense - and so I just backed nervously away from Ms. Liberty and snuck right back out of Pocket D as fast as I could! -
Thinking out loud:
Gah! I'm so sick and tired of more JUNK! I mean...Catalysts, Boosters, Converters, Unslotters...now maximizers and minimaizers? Oy...
Not that I dislike the idea, but not only is it getting annoying spending my earnings (Paragon Points, merits or incarnate stuff) on getting nice stuff like this, waiting for the chance for it to drop can get frustrating too.
As an alternate idea, I'd love it if crafting were an actual skill to build up, just like in MMOs...currently, the only carrot to build the crafting skill (through badges) is the portable crafting table. But you know what would make me want to get those badges on more characters? If we could *do* more with crafting in general.
Rather than waiting for a specialty drop to give you the ability to increase or lower the level of an invention enhancement, how about making that an ability unlocked through a crafting badge? After working to unlock the crafting table, make a badge for converting a certain amount of enhancements too and the payoff is an accolade crafting power that grants you the skill of lowering or increasing levels on enhancements. Maybe the parts required to do that are simply basic IOs of the same enhancement types and proper level...so if you want to increase the level of a lvl 23 Kinetic Combat Acc/Dmg, you need the badge + a lvl 25 basic dmg IO and acc IO. Lower a LotG rech bonus IO? Just the IO and basic def IOs of the proper level.
Basically, crafters with experience should have the freedom of altering levels of IOs rather than waiting for a rare drop.
