Looking at powers that have been changed, what seems to be part of the rule is that a power has the same interface as it used to, and the same effects as it used to (although varying in degree), and may also have an additional effect.
Not sure if it would change anything but I'll try to state precedence with Repulsion Bomb. It used to be a targeted AoE around a teammate but was changed to a targeted AoE around a foe. Not sure if it would be changing interface, but I couldn't figure out how to use the power when it first changed. I'd target an ally and click it but it didn't work so I just stopped trying. It wasn't until I discovered the forum and read some patch notes (and retiring from Force Fields) that I found out it was changed to a different target interface.

My proposal still phases foes in an AoE but just requires you designate a location for it.

Preserve its current function to a degree usable by those who currently use Dim Shift
That's probably the issue with my suggestion. It doesn't do that. But it does make it less obnoxious to teammates...except maybe teammates that blast. But then those teammates are the only types that can still affect foes across the dimensional barrier.

    Gravity (Again)

    <QR>

An idea I posted in a Dom thread:

Dimension Shift- Targeted summon pet with a 15-20ft range that constantly casts a short duration intangibility effect on *anyone* in range, friend or foe. Basically creates a field/bubble cage match, only players/foes inside can attack eachother. Foes/allies outside cannot affect enemies inside unless they enter the area and foes/allies inside cannot affect anyone outside unless they leave the area. I'd imagine the only effects that could be cast across the barrier are similar targeted summon powers like Blizzard, Rain of Fire, Oil Slick, Freezing Rain, Carrion Creepers, etc.

I believe it would provide a lot of AoE control. You can effectively split spawns and switch between which ones you're affecting, or if the majority of the enemies are inside/outside then that's a majority of enemies that can't fight back if you jump in/out.

Add some flavor to the power: The Gravity control user that is within his own pocket dimension makes the rules within it so his def/res/acc/dmg is buffed while standing inside it.

Oh, and if 2 or more Gravity control users use dimension shift on the exact same area, everything inside is instantly killed and all player characters within have their characters deleted

[EDIT]Thinking further on applications of such a power, this would seem broken in PvP...it'd force close combat as anything outside the range of this power does nothing...A Grav/FF controller inside his Dimension Shift with Force Bubble on? That'd be pretty annoying.

Entering the thread to try and be constructive, I'm wondering: What would be considered a change that doesn't evoke or violate the 'Cottage Rule'? Specifically, what are we looking at as possible avenues of change to Dimension Shift that will still keep it as Dimension Shift but be more useful?

Would changing the fundamental way the power activates (i.e. being a ST power or a targeted summon) or the type of power (a passive or a toggle, etc) be a possibility? Obviously, adding effects to the base power and/or altering the stats like duration or range are within the limits so altering it to a 100% accuracy intangibility with an extremely short duration isn't a problem.

So what if Dimension Shift was a targeted summon that created a pet/field that phased anyone (friend or foe) that walked into it? A 15-20ft ranged area, with a phase that lasted .8sec and the summoned pet would cast intangibility on anyone in range every .33sec. What it'd create is a cage to fight. If you're inside, foes outside shooting in have no effect. Foes that are inside shooting out have no effect. It could be leveraged in different ways and meshes well with powers in Gravity (sounds awesome to create a pocket dimension then wormhole foes into it, applying an AoE immobilize before you do).

I guess that begs the question of does it not violate the cottage rule (it's still an AoE intangibility power and nothing more), does it solve Gravity Control's issues with AoE control (I can think of several applications for the power myself) and how badly would it upset the current users of Dimension Shift.

I guess there's also the whole "can it be implemented" question too...

I tried to get around that with an arc I wrote (Murder in Triplicate). It's a murder mystery, where you get lots of clues. The contact doesn't know who the perpetrator is and doesn't tell you. You just have the clues to work from (and there are lots of them).

I wanted to make it so that your decisions actually decide whether the missions fails or succeeds. I did this by having a time-limited final mission, and setting up four suspects on an open map. If you pick the right suspect first you should have enough time. If you pick the wrong suspects you're in for a tough fight and probably will run out of time.
That's an interesting use of MA. Kind of makes me wish there were more ways to fail a mission, like clicking on a certain object or not performing mission objectives in the right sequence.

I do think it's possible for the 'contact' not to tell you were to go. Or I hope I can pull it off. In my arc, you approach him basically asking something of him. He essentially says "Okay, but do something that shows me how awesome/smart/villainous/ferocious you are" then you go looking for such a feat. I guess you can say the contact told you to go do something but he doesn't know what you're going to do or need to accomplish. Technically, someone posts a request and you take it...and then do the opposite of what was asked.
  9. <QR>

I'm working on my first MA arc (still). It's a villainous arc.

I'm still playing around with the text but, the way I have it set up, the contact is merely an overseer. He doesn't even tell you where to go or what to do but he comments about your actions. The story, for the most part, is told in the clues presented in a way that your character is unveiling this stuff himself and thinking how to approach the situation. You can also not read the clues and charge the missions like a ravenous animal and the other text implies that option.

How does that sound to anyone? We're still on rails with the story here, so it's just an approach I'm trying.

...and yes, I need the contact to be a person overseeing it and not an inanimate object. It's part of the theme of the arc.
  10. IMO, a stalker that you don't realize is there is the greatest asset you can offer to a team. No, I don't mean leeching.

As a stalker, you should be able to fight and kill before the foe can retaliate against you, i.e. you're not getting killed and being babysat or even following on the heels of your team.

Knowing what foes are the more pain in the back to deal with is what you should be after first either it be a boss, a mezzing Lt. or what have you. The team should only feel "Hey, this isn't as bad as I thought," not "Wow! This Stalker kicks booty!"

Although the 2nd response isn't bad, it's not really the aim for me.

As for sets, there really isn't a "best to use" primary. They will have varying capabilities so you work it into your strategies. You'll notice it when switching from a set like Dark Melee to a set like Dual Blades. They both get the job done but in different ways. And secondary sets, I'm not even going to comment on. Too many opinions.
  11. For your response, BaB will be changing the animation of your regen characters to wear BDSM leather gear complete with ball gag and replace the yell with a pleasure moan.

    Enjoy!
  12. No one made a thread like this? Or is it wrapped up in Lady-J's thread? If so I guess ignore this one.

Anyway, if you could request alternate animations, what set and describe the theme/flavor of the alternates. Keep in mind:

-Simplicity is good. Too complex and it may never come to be.
-General enough theme. Not anything too specific. Something that could cover a decent number of concepts.
-Interesting. I know this is only the first round of customization options coming, but most of the alternate animations are kind of *yawn*. Love Ground Punch, Jab and some of the punches in the new MA but the others are pretty meh.

    Assault Rifle > Shoulder Cannon

Simple enough. I just want a gun to pop out of my shoulder(s) and shoot stuff. Even if we couldn't customize the gun. And the animations would be relatively simple; a guy standing firmly as guns fire various attacks from his shoulders. Maybe vary the stance he takes.

    Anything Blast > Arm Cannon
Most of my blasters are Megaman-esque reploids and being able to shoot the attacks from a gun mounted on the arm (or is the arm if they give the costume option) would be a very techish style for all!

    Broadsword > BFS
The BFS(or Big Frikken Sword). I want to love broadsword, but I hate its animations. They're weak, they're simple, the sword looks weightless and the only compensation is the big numbers. I want a set that holds the sword in two hands AND it looks heavy AND the strikes are devastating full-body-movement attacks. This is a very difficult one though....but bonus points if they give us a buster sword weapon option to go with it.

    Katana > Iaidō/Iaijutsu/Battō
The japanese martial art of drawing the sword from its scabbard. Traditional samurai stuff here. Your ready battle stance could be your hands at your waist, one hand holding the scabbard and the other holding the sword handle. Because the beginning of these animations would always end with your sword back at your waist, the rest of the animation is lightning quick.

    Medicine Pool > Anything
I don't like the tricorder. A utility belt with medicine pills, pull out a magic healing crystal, a vial of green goop, anything but that blasted remote.

    Any other stuff to add?
  13. No one said anything about Martial Art's Assasin's Blow? SERIOUSLY!?

I can't believe no one looked that up at comic-con....They get every alternate animation for SS and MA *BUT* the one I'm interested in. Typical.
  14. I dunno, skipping AS is kind of hefty for a Spines/. I could see skipping it on a EM or possibly even a Claws or MA but Spines is rather weak in the single target department. All you really have is Lunge, Impale and Ripper for effective ST and those 3 are either only moderate damage, very slow animating or both. Having the option to say "Man, this guy isn't going down very fast....*placate* *AS*" would be a tough option to give up, for me.

But that's just my opinion. My Spines/ is Spines/DA, I can't afford to have a tough target whaling on me for very long as the defense I have gathered on him is still in the 20%s.

If the OP was hurting for slots, I'd suggest skipping the fitness pool and slotting out Energy Drain for recharge instead. That's 2 extra powers right there.
  15. And now that I think about it, why not just get it over with and do the same for Energy Aura? That has conserve power too, right? And it'll be proliferated too?
  16. If I recall, Elec armor wasn't so bad paired with Katana. The defense really gave those resists a workout.

So will this mean I'll be seeing a few BS/Elec stalkers running around the first day?
  17. I never really cared for Elec Armor on Stalkers. Not because it's a resist set and stalkers are 'suppose to' have defense. I didn't like it because it's a resist set on a low HP AT with no regen or heal and an over-abundance of endurance for an AT that won't use it.

i16 is changing Elec Armor across the board (for Brute, Scrapper, Tanker and Stalker) so Conserve Power becomes Energize which is half the end discount of CP, a 30sec +regen and a heal rolled into one.

Think it's enough to at least put the set on even footing with Dark Armor? I'm thinking about making a MA/Elec when i16 comes around so I can play with the new animations and colors

Yeah, they're doing just that. Since BaB announced it, I've been beating my brain trying to imagine what the animation could be. If he's changing kicks to punches, he'll probably turn punches to kicks so the AS might be some awesome kick...
  19. Well, that's if the guy wants Super Speed. I thought he wanted Super Jump.

I would suggest getting rid of Barb Swipe though. I haven't used that attack in forever and when I did it was crap. Unless they fixed the dmg/animation since then, I would suggest picking a pool attack instead.

For PvE, I wouldn't skip Spine Burst. Get some IO procs in there if you can and fire it off + BU on teams. It's quite fun, even outside of hide.

It's kind of looking a gift horse in the mouth though. Seriously, you can create hundreds of alts with millions of costume variations *FOR FREE** while most other games will only give you 2-4 alts and then you gotta pay.

  21. Have you found that you *need* a travel power? So many contacts give out little travel packs that getting around isn't too much trouble and then you can stop by Grandville and buy a flight pack for 10k inf.

If it's PvP you're looking at then you need to shuffle around your whole build (i.e. Barb Swipe and Spine Burst are useless there).

I mean, shouldn't I be able to squeeze in a travel power AND Stamina before 30?
For one, there are just more key powers at the start. Where scrappers get taunt and skip it, we get placate and take it. And two, all of Energy Aura's key powers are in the first 10 levels. It gets less demanding when Energy Protection and Repulse come around and seeing as you took Stamina, you can skip Conserve Power and either push back Energy Drain a few levels or respec out of Stamina for it and pick Stamina up again later.

But again, all for the sake of a travel power? Is it that important?

    Plant Armor!

Well this set is unique in that it has a toggle T9 wich only 1 other set has. I love the idea of a Toggle T9 and hate that only 1 other set gets the benefit of this. Also, if you like to go for concept, some of the powers are based on improving the human psyche. The only other set that even comes close to this is WP.
It's not really unique if another set already has it. Granted, it would be nice to see more sets do this in the future, it isn't something unique. As for improving the human psyche, why not leave that concept open for a literal 'Psionic Armor/Aura' set in the future rather than stretching plants to do it. Stick with the concept of plants, is what I'm saying.

    Quote:
As for this.... what other set allows you to turn into a frieken swamp monster?
Any set, once the costume options are available.

Looking through the set, there are 2 aura powers (a slow/dmg aura and a fear/confuse aura). One of those can be scrapped, as this is *Plant* armor, not *Nature* armor so insects aren't plants. The fear/confuse aura are only chance with -stealth so will be mostly useless unless that proc occurs. I'd add toxic damage toggle + toxic DoT for around 5 sec even if the foe is out of your aura.

You have +regen, +MaxHP auto and a click heal. I'd say shave off some of the regen and combine the MaxHP and heal into a mini-Dullpain that recharges a bit faster or just remove the click heal. With all the resistance and defense available to the set, you'll run into Willpower levels of mitigation (which is too strong, IMO).

With those powers either cut or combined, you're left with Thick Foliage, Vine Armor/RoMesquite, Mighty Oak, Photosynthesis, Nature's Bounty, Noxtious Gas and Nature's Ward. That leaves you with 2 power slots. Make these very plant-esque situational powers that aren't needed. They can serve as skippable powers for flavor purposes but aren't useless. This also makes it easier to port to Stalkers because only 1 PBAoE power needs to be exchanged for Hide.

Just off the top of my head, a summoned vine that last a short time but trips up foes and possibly immobilizes them when it expires. A tree of life summon that improves ally regen. An Overgrowth patch, that (non-KB suppressing)immobilizes foes that walk near it. A Self-Seeding self rez that rezzes your with improved recovery and debuffs foe regen as well as holding them. You know, plant-like stuff that will actually have visual particles and fx that give an outward impression of *Plant* or the usage of them.
  23. Tried it. The enemies were quite annoying with their stealth strikes but not horrible. It was kind of cool as a Stalker to sneak a hit on the foe only to have them do the same on me. The allies you find along the way didn't last long either, they'd usually drop after a couple of fights so no help there.

There were some grammar/spelling errors too. I remember seeing 'tehy' instead of 'they' and some other stuff I didn't make a note of. Sorry >_>

Getting to the last mission: I took a left, defeated the group near the lock box, busted it open. Jumped over Lady Guan, took out the boss past her then turned and took out Guan herself but after that the mission didn't end. I searched everywhere on the tiny map for anything I missed and found nothing. So I wasn't able to finish the mission. It might have just been a fluke though.

Story-wise, I was sort of in a rush so didn't read all the text (I read the mission text but only skimmed the clues) and can say it's pretty solid. Not sure the first map is all that appropriate for Ancient China but there isn't much to work with (I want to use that map in the Cimerora SF that's inside the castle). Overall, if I were able to finish the thing, I'd give it a 3.8-4.2 stars.

Summary: It was challenging, the story was solid, the mistakes were minimal and overall entertaining. For a hero arc, it didn't make me feel like 'that cape that's on the foe's tail', you know? I didn't feel like I was saving the day like was implied (sort of like how I expect villain arcs to either make me feel like a heartless killer, a menace to the world or something like that. Anyway, you did a good job. Kudos.

    Plant Armor!

I never liked the fact that anyone suggesting new sets, in this situation armor sets, that it'd effectively be just a complete copy of existing sets but with varied animations. What can this set do that no other armor set can do? Think outside the box people!

I think Shield defense is cool because it does stuff that other sets don't have, even if it's only 1 thing. You can have your melee guys huddle up with you and everyone there will get a buff (something not in other armor sets). It also has a powerful teleport attack too.

So what does this armor set do that can't be done with color customization, costumes and auras?

    Tanker

    Brute

    Scrapper

also I would like to know if a brute does more damage than a scrapper

But Stalkers *ARE* the most balanced melee. They do great damage and potentially more burst damage on teams when it counts (against hard targets like GMs and AVs). They trade this for less HP and therefore less survivability. While they could be torn apart like a paper bag, that is only a concern if one garners that much of the enemies attention and Stalker's specialty is *not* getting that much attention. That's called balance.

The most unbalanced melee, IMO, is Brute. It has supreme damage thanks to fury, decent defenses on par with Scrapper but with more HP to make sets like Willpower all the more broken. They also share mitigation caps with Tankers meaning a buffer can put a Brute's def/res on par with Tankers. The only downfall is maintaining fury.

Anyway, I'm doubt that's what you actually want to hear. You probably just want someone to tell you what to play (no idea why anyone would want that). No need to make a thread, if you want straight forward melee damage then play a Brute or Scrapper. It doesn't matter the set you pair with it. Go look at some guides if you need hand holding...
