Then you'd have to explain why a laser explodes on contact to hit everyone around the target and why that does -regen when no other power in the set does. Doesn't photon grenade work in a targeted AoE fashion? I don't know, I'm not a MM player...

Anyway, as long as there is a long fat....laser beam ... that hits everything in its path in an anime-esque fashion, I'll definitely play this set.
  2. The situation varies AS's use so much, there is no best way to use it. It's really all about your playstyle, build, the foe, team/solo and most importantly, the situation.

When teamed, you'll generally use AS on the hardest or most annoying target (Boss, Tsoo Sorcerer, Deamon Lord, Sapper, etc) from hide if you're not using an AoE from hide. Placate you either save for a new target you want to AS or to get your bacon out of the fire later.

Solo is a different ballgame. It's generally up to you how you use it as long as you understand the power's limitations and quirks:
    -it's interruptible
-you must have line of sight during the last couple of seconds or else the power will auto-miss
-from hide it will always assassin's crit (I think 1.8x the damage?) while it only has your 10% chance for a normal (1.0x) crit outside of hide
-there is a small chance to double assassin's strike (an assassin's crit + normal crit) from hidden status
-missing with AS does not unhide you, reset your hide timer or alert the foe of your failed action
-DoT (such as Spine's toxic damage, Caltrops or Midnight Grasp's DoT) will alert a foe even if you placate him. Some secondary effects do the same, one I can remember being -recovery from Electric Melee.
-you can move at the last part (the non-interruptible part) of AS without causing you to interrupt the attack
-a successful AS will demoralize foes in a (25ft?) radius of the foe *if* he survives or self-rezzes
-demoralized foes will have their ToHit debuffed by an unresistable -7.5% (even AVs who resist ToHit debuffs) and they have a chance to be feared from the rank of boss and below

Knowing those quirks, you can pull off interesting 'tricks' that make battles just so satisfying. My Elec/Regen can pull off mid-fight AS even without defense. Vs Freakshow, I can Buildup>AS a Lt, turn to a minion and 2-shot it, the Lt self rezzes (demoralizing the group), Thunderstrike + Lightning Rod(one or the other will knock down everything)the Lt then placate > AS the boss (demoralizing them again) and focus on the boss after that. Anything that survives or rezzes will get swallowed by Thunderstrike, Lightning Rod and Chain Induction AoE.

My Spines made it a habit to Buildup > AS the boss (and jump back just before it hits) then placate the boss, and crit impale something else. Even with his toxic DoT messing with placate, range or the knockdown in Ripper can still get you that crit.

With my DM/Willpower, I really enjoy one-shotting things because he has a few set bonuses for +damage. He'll step up, Buildup > AS one, touch of fear another, placate another and the crit Midnight Grasp another. Stand around for 3 seconds then cue up AS on the placated one which will go off juuuust as hide comes back to take him out, turn to the only foe left and touch of fear him again, wait till hide comes back and crit Midnight Grasp again. It's not super fast or effective but it sure is satisfying and usually earns me a flawless victory.
  3. Well, if you can attach such an effect to a power, then it'd be possible to put it in a projectile, right?

Are you telling me....are you telling us....seriously telling us that a Spines Scrapper does better single target damage than *any* Blaster? Are you telling me that a Psy, Sonic, Ice, AR, etc blaster can't dispose of single targets as fast as Spines!? Seriously?

I won't comment on Controllers, but Tankers are *fine*.

So what does that say about Stalkers who are also designed as expert soloers. You don't see them running about soloing AVs all day.
  5. Doesn't Thermal Radiation have 'shimmer' effects from the heat coming off the ally buffed? Think it's possible to take that 'shimmer' visual, tint it a little but enough to make it see-through, shove it in a invisible particle stream with perhaps some white foamy parts, and call that water?

What is that 'heat shimmer' effect anyway? Is that attached to those thermal powers? Is it some kind of aura?
  6. Can you not just save the costumes and then load them up into a slot later? It costs nothing to save a costume and can save as many of them as you have hard drive space.

I won't say 'no' to more costume slots but I think asking for more is pushing it. Soon, we'll be able to link custom power colors/animations to costumes as well and more and more slots have got to be applying pressure on the system somewhere.

Also, when will it end? Tomorrow we get a 6th and 7th costume slot and then we ask for an 8th next week?

    DB/? Stalker?

Umm, anything? They all work. But unless you know what you're getting into, I'd steer clear of Dark Armor as the costly endurance stacks badly with the endurance hungry dual blades. Elec armor isn't really all that good but may be improving by i16 but it has a lot of endurance management. Regen is iffy because all the clicks will cause redraw for DB/.

Not really my fault you only read SD there. Any item ingame was 'changable' (note, not customizable), weapons, guns, capes, you name it. But would a new color change the gay walk of SD or DW? Or the clipping issues with guns, the redraw issues? Not here.
    Excuse yourself, sir.

The way that you walk or run in game resembles nothing remotely 'gay'.

Now this is a gay walk. Please try to use the term correctly in the future.
  9. Played through it on a lvl 25 Stalker. No difficulties anywhere. I rated it a 5 star arc, mainly because I can imagine this arc being put in the game. Pretty easy arc and funny as well. I may play through it again on my 41 dom to see how it scales and get the other ending.

*keeps photocopy of Stalker's scaly lizard butt*
  10. Just to offer different advice for Stalker Willpower: what about +dmg? Leveraging those crits would be far more help on teams than being immortal all the time. Solo is just too easy unless you're facing stuff with retarded amounts of regen.

Because you're going Nin/WP, you have the option of a chunk of defense to stack with your primary. What you'd run into that'd slow you down is foes with annoying amounts of lethal resists. You need to take them out faster. No need to survive longer.

I'm not saying neglect +def or regen bonuses but a good tactic is just killing the enemy faster. Besides, Stalkers have too many tools to get out of tough messes to need to be immortal. You'll have the ability to put down one foe before the fight even starts, stop another foe from bothering you for 15-20sec(placate), a decent recharging burst heal instead of alot of regen, less aggro and therefore less enemies on your bum(hide) and finally Shadow Meld(+def)/Hibernate(regen/recover). And if you get one/two-shotted(not likely), take tough or resurgence. A self rez is quite sneaky on a stalker.

Description: Start your initiation into the ruthless half-animal mercenary group, the Zoan Crew. Even having your name associated with their organization will let others know you're NOT to be messed with. Who knows? Maybe you can take the reigns of leader for yourself.
    Arc ID: 306148
    Morality: Villainous
    Length: Very Long
Contains: Archvillains, Elite Bosses, Custom enemies with custom powers

Author's Notes: This is my first arc, so it'll be pretty clunky. Any tips or tricks would be welcome. Although there are Archvillains in it, I suggest you try the arc at the highest setting you can muster. I tested it with mostly low to high lvl stalkers and a dom, if that's saying anything. Enjoy!

Really, I believe it was more of a "now we can't look down on them" type of reaction than a "the turk ur jurb!" Even if those few scrappers thought crits were their special thing, they knew some kind of radical change was needed to bring Stalkers even close to the pedestal scrappers put themselves on.

I never thought Stalkers were all that bad compared to Scraps, and think they're equal now with different strengths. But there are still people who think Stalks are weak sauce and Scraps are teh aweshum!

Back on topic, I don't really mind waiting that long for Energize on a Stalker. I can get by...but for a Brute!? That's just a pain in the bum.

...and further back on topic...what more can they possibly add to the patron pools? I'm all for getting Dark Servant from Ghost Widow or Lightning Storm from Sirocco but ain't it time for more concepts? Where's the fire or ice patron for my Ice/Fire dom? Ninja or weapon patron for my Spines/DA (he needs shuriken or a thrown weapon besides the throwing knife he already has)?
  13. Just to reflect...

    1. A single target hold
    2. A single target immobilize
    3. A single target knockup
    4.An AoE immobilize
    5. A long animating ST knockback attack
    6. A power that makes foes invinvible
    7. An AoE foe teleport
    8. An AoE hold
    9. A team recall

    What were they thinking!?

You can complain all you want, it's not like Scrappers have access to Hibernate or a click power that grants a considerable amount of +defense.
You have a point there. Stalkers do have a nice spread of powers in their patron pools compared to Scrappers. From ranged AoEs, to snipes to self-buffs, to tier 9s...oh, and pets too.

    Quote:
so what? Stalkers have received DM/DA, Elec/ElA, and DB/WP, now they're getting Broadsword. Lets see what Scrappers have received...Fire/Fire, DB/WP, Shields, now they're getting Elec/ElA.
Actually, Stalkers were behind on sets before DM/DA (having only 5/4 primary/secondary sets while Scrappers had 6/4) but moved ahead after they introduced those sets (6/5 vs 6/4) but eventually evened out when shields were introduced. Now it's 8/7 for both but the new prolif will throw it off again to 9/7 vs 9/8. Not a really big deal but just clarifying the situation because you introduced specifics.

    Quote:
    Broadsword is still better imo.
You would have to go into detail in how Broadsword is better and not equal to Katana. The little extra burst is evened out by its decreased to scrap with high DPS. And it can't be the animations, as those in Katana are far better crafted.

...but if it's just your opinion, then I guess mine is Katana/Ninja Blade is better. So the opinions balance out and we end up with a set that's pretty much has 'seen it' all over it.

    Quote:
probably the only thing in your post I can agree with
Well you got your bursty broadsword that obviously kills your foes so much more faster than a katana would that you don't need that heal. Lightning Reflexes, to get those slow recharging attacks up faster, is the more worthwhile lvl 20 power for your playstyle, right?

Also, is that Tiger from Monster Rancher in your avatar? Awesome if so.
This is probably the only thing that made sense to me. Broadsword does get some of the coolest looking weapons (Rularuu, Talsorian, Rommie, Nictus, Valkyrie and Tech). Katana's I can only admit is half as good.

And no, my Avatar is John Talbain. Unfortunately, there isn't much Monster Rancher fan art out there.

Oh, sure, Dual Blades and Martial Arts have fancy spins and tricks, but nothing quite compares to the SMASH!!! of Head Splitter. Or... Hell, to the brutality of just about any of the Broadsowrd attacks.

If I had to rank melee attacks in terms of coolness, I'd go Head Splitter -> Sweeping Strike -> Energy Transfer -> Seismic Smash -> Eagle's Claw. I wouldn't even enter Golden Dragonfly into the mix. It's cool and all, but nowhere near the punch or the flash of Headsplitter. The red Pillar of Pain is the only thing that keeps it cool.
This doesn't make sense. I like Axe and Mace's animations because they look like they hurt. Broadsword, which uses the same animations, doesn't look so painful because you don't swing a sword like you swing an axe/mace/a stick with something heavy on the end. In short, I wouldn't want to be headsplitter'ed with a big ol' mallet or a pick.

Red Pillar of Pain? So, Martial Arts has blue sparkles? What's the big deal?

Apparently you need to work on your reading comprehension. And you need a new sarcasm meter, as the last statement pretty much states the post is in jest.

I'll break it down for you though:
-What you were suppose to read was the article that was linked.
-Specifically, the part about Electric Armor having Conserve Power Replaced (confirming the changes people were posting about on the boards)
-Specifically specifically, the part about Electric Armor having the order of its powers changed to move Energize to Lightning Reflexes spot.

Granted, the part that says Brutes won't be getting this treatment (because the only /elec character I'll probably have is my elec/elec brute) is a smack in the teeth; it's still news to be spread.

Also, I'm hamming up all the attention Scrappers are getting so when it's Stalker's turn they can't say sh#$!1

    PS:

No, I'm pretty sure scrappers were saying "Aww, good for them. Now they're not lolstalkers anymore". I know, I was there...

    Quote:
That would be level 20 not 26.
    Thanks for the clarification!
  17. That works too, but then you can replace the flyswatter with, say...a lead pipe and do the same motion on something and it won't be getting up.

Do that with headsplitter and you're going to get a "Ow! What are you hitting me with a blunt pipe for? You crazy!?" Funny, but totally not as painful.

I'm not emo villain hero-hating guy, I'm just a guy that loves his stalkers and they're not getting *anything* shiny. Broadsword's AS would have to be so full of awesome, my monitor explodes and sends shrapnel flying in my face to make up for the lack of 'cool' we get.
  21. What? No 4 page article on the revamped shiny new stalker set being proliferated?

Oh yeah, I forgot. Stalkers are just getting broadsword...
  22. Just saw a link in a dom thread about i16 additions. The earth assault set looks pretty aweshum tho...

    mmorpg.com

It's not the fact that scrappers get 2 sets proliferated while we get one.

It's not that they get a cool tintable powerset that has effects, animations and playstyle unlike any sets they already have while we get a (for the most part) reanimated 'Ninja Blade'.

It's not that they get an updated electric armor that switches Energize up to Lightning Reflexes spot (bringing their self-heal up by lvl 26 I believe) while we "don't get that advantage, unfortunately".

It's not even the fact that we're getting 1 power added to our patron/epics (which most likely will be conserve power for 2 sets for stalkers) while Scrappers get a whole new epic (Blaze Mastery).

    It's ALL OF THE ABOVE!

Do the devs just want me to quit Stalkers and go back to Scrappers!? Cause I'll do it! I'll do it hard!

    For players wanting Pistol melee:

    i17: Random s*!#

    Costume option:
    -glove
--boxing gloves with a picture of a pistol on them
    --pistol hand option

    -aura
    --floating glowing pistol
    ---head
    ---torso
    ---hands
    ---hand&head

The way I figure it, the devs are like

Posi: Okay, we need to proliferate an armor set for Tankers and/or Scrappers...so Energy Aura or Electric Armor.

Castle: But those sets have Conserve Power, heroes would possibly get 2 of the same power!

Posi: I guess we have to finally fix the sets then...*coin flip* Fix Elec Armor. Hop to it...

    Castle: *sigh*

And no, it's not just for Scrappers and Tankers. The Electric Armor set is having CP replaced with Energize and *then* proliferated to Tankers/Scrappers.

As for Energy Aura, how about a power called "Overclock". Seeing as there's already a heal in Energy Drain, Overclock conceptually forces your shields and synapses to flow faster, making the user faster and more efficient for a time. Along with a smaller end discount it would have +res to psy/energy, +regen and +rech for 30sec.

Either way, yes. Very fast things can be highly damaging, like whip tips. Then again, bullets are also pretty quick.
Wait...but guns aren't melee weapons (not to mention there's gun all around in the game while whips are unique).
